We have had 2 GT350s and currently I have a 2020 GT500 and my wife has a very modded 2022 Mustang GT with the 10R80 transmission. My 17 350 had a major oil problem. It would burn a qt. about every 400-500 miles, but still a great car to drive. The 19 GT350 that was my wife's car was amazing. No issues at all. We sold those. So far the 2020 GT500 has been great. They had a software recall that was throwing codes. It has been repaired. I miss the manual transmission, but the DCT is still fun to drive.
Thanks a lot for the insight! I laughed at my wording when I asked for everyone to share their experiences, as I said if anyone “has owned GT350s or GT500s”, when reviewing I said “nobody has owned multiple “. I stand corrected, Ha! Very weird on the oil consumption issue. That’s great about the others being mostly flawless. I had a DCT M3 and it was an absolute joy to drive. I loved that car, right up till the engine blew. hahaha! Thanks for watching!
@@carauctionsweekly Some of the 15-18 350s had oil blow by issues. The 19-20 solved it. The way it was explained to me, the R block was built better. The 19-20 350s had the R blocks and didn't inherit the oil problem. I watch BAT auctions daily. A lot of these cars are not hitting reserve. I cannot understand how some of these cars on BAT only have a few hundred miles on them. They are too much fun to not drive them. Love the channel.
good vid thanks. some thoughts from a former 350R owner and now a '22 GT500 CFTP. 1st, for correction, there is no 2023 GT500 as officially they go to 2022. 2nd, my '18 350R was flawless and recently sold on BAT (by the 2nd owner) for $3k over MSRP with 10k miles on it. but it did have an extended warranty through 2026 so that was helpful when i sold it to the 2nd buyer and now for the BAT/3rd owner. my R had ZERO oil consumption for the 3 yrs i had it. flawless car, loved it. but if i were getting one today, i would get a 2018+ and it would have to have an extended warranty (mine was the 8 yr warranty through 2026). i would not get a 350 w/o an ESP. as you say yes great bang for buck but not if that $25k motor goes kaboom. now with my '22 CFTP i am more than happy and wouldnt go back to the 350R, even with the manual. of course this is all preference and initially i was worried i'd miss the 3 pedals but i dont really. this 500 is an absolute monster and the tech updates like lane warning and customizable dash are just nice perks. thanks again. EDIT: sorry forgot to comment on the darkhorse but probably bc i dont care for it lol. it's nice with all the tech but i like the S550 front better and it isnt anything like a 350/500, it's nice but not special.
Thank you for the kind words and the correction! That’s great about the sale and CFTP. They are great cars and I can imagine the enjoyment with it. I’ve had Dual Clutch cars and loved them. Fair point on the 350 engine, but I’m not too sure there’s many failures, but I guess that’s always a possibility. I’ve blown an engine before, probably will again, Ha! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
I absolutely agree! I also have a 22' GT500HE CFTP and ive driven the 350s and i almost bought a 2017 350R but im glad i waited. I had a 2021 ZL1 1LE which i think is the only other car that compares to the GT500. The Darkhorse is cool but tbh i think its just Mach1 with a few cosmetic changes! and definitely not worth 100K that Ford dealers are asking.
I purchased a 2016 GT350 back in 2019 for 46k with only 200 miles. Quite the deal for today prices. I have put in about 4500 miles since then trouble free with the exception of the exhaust valve has failed to open a couple times to let that beautiful flat plane crank engine rumble out. Only time will tell, but I think that in the long run the GT350 will become a well sought after vehicle.
That’s a great price and a great car! Interesting on the exhaust valve, but even it has to be fixed hopefully it is minor. Enjoy the car! Oh what color did you get?
Nice!! you’ll have the full setup! I try to stay away from discussing aftermarket as the sky is the limit! Enjoy those cars and can’t wait to hear more reviews on the DH. Thanks for watching!
Nice video for those on the fence. My area gt500 rarely dipped below msrp while the gt350 have dropped a bit. The C8 corvette also has put another element into the mix for track use as pricing is similar. For collectibility it will be a toss between the GT350 (solely for the flat plane) and the gt500 (for the mammoth hp supercharged engine). In time, the gt500 would be the one to treasure.
I bought a used ‘19 GT350 two and a half years ago and I still enjoy it today as much as when I first got it. I have no plans on trading it on a Dark Horse. I bought Ford ESP warranty shortly after purchase for a mere $1.6k that takes coverage until 2029 or 100k miles. It currently has 29k miles. I use it regularly and have zero regrets. The GT500 is appealing, sure. But the dial (vs gear shift) on the console is just not appealing to me; I really enjoy the two leg, two arm engagement. I just had a/c repaired on it, so the extended warranty cost has pretty much paid itself. The stick shift apparently is a dying breed. I just read yesterday that the initial numbers are in on the first Dark Horse orders and it’s like 2/3 for automatics. 🤷♂️
I am glad you are enjoying your GT350! That is sadly not surprising on the Auto/Manual numbers on the Dark Horse. I’m thankful for the cars that are out there and still offering the stick and the great manual cars that have been made over the last few decades.
I Purcahsed a new 22 Mach 1 in March of 23 because it shares a lot of parts from both the gt500 and gt350. Mine is a premium non handling pack auto, It is my daily driver and I love it I know it's not as special as a 350 but for the price I could've gotten a used 350 and I decided that since I had a coyote mustang before and it's a platform I'm familiar with that it would be a better option for me that and sourcing parts for maintenance and upgrades would be a little less expensive and easier to find. I have 1k miles on it and I love every minute I'm behind the wheel of it.
That’s great Robert! There’s always a perfect car for every person out there and I’m glad you got the right one for you! It’s hard to go wrong with the Coyote and there’s tons of upgrade for that platform also if you ever desired. Enjoy it and thanks for watching!
ALL the R's had the coolers, and were the REAL track attack version ! The issue was, most buyers thought the early regular 350's were also track capable, .....2 or 3 laps only before heat issues appeared = unhappy owners. But, even back then you could OPTION the coolers ! As far as I remember, all 2017 and later std 350's had the coolers, so issue solved !!
I have a mustang GT here in the uk two days ago I went into a Ford main dealer and was told they have no information over here as too when they will receive a car I'm going for the dark horse
I am still torn between the GT350 and the dark horse. Whatever I get I will use as a daily so warranty and reliability are pretty valuable to me. Most likely I will get the Dark Horse just for the warranty.
Mine will be a daily driver and I'm paralyzed, so I wanted something n/a and it has to be an auto, so I ordered a dark horse. I ordered it on 3-27 and got an email recently that said it was scheduled to be built the week of 6-29.
I have a gt500 2020 with 9k miles. I’m the only owner and bought it in march 21. Fortunately for me I haven’t had any issues but mine is a late model…numbered in the 5000s.
That is quite a shift in the type of car. Guessing for a daily driver? Bronco’s are good, but they are a little less refined than I expected. If you are into that then they are perfect for a fun weekend and daily driver. Obviously one heck of a drop in performance, ha! Good news is you should get top dollar for your GT500!
Boy, the Mustang sure has come a long way from that 1964.5 model. With the exception of the "pony" era, they've all been great fun to drive... If I were in the market for a GT350 (and I remember yours!), I think I might try to exercise some patience and wait to see how the Dark Horse turns out. When is it supposed to go into production?
Probably a wise approach! I think the Dark Horse is scheduled for first deliveries this summer, so fairly soon. Will be great to see how it is in person.
I had to look that up. Looks killer! 800HP is a sweet spot and sounds like a fast setup with good cooling and other features. Thanks for mentioning this, I wasn’t familiar with it.
All prices are high. It’s really not a great engine. You are better off going to Lebanon Ford and getting a base model GT with a supercharger 700hp installed for 47,500. It comes with a full factory warranty. The 5.0 is a great engine cheaper to maintain Wait until 2024 it will be probably 48,500 but you will have the newest car. The s550 looks dated. Why pay 55k plus used car interest rate and little to no warranty.
Pretty much not interested in Dark Horse or the GT350. LAST YEAR HAD 2021 MACH1 & THOUGHT IT WAS AWESOME! NOW HAVE 2022 SHELBY GT500 with 1,300 miles. Been to a couple of Car Shows & pretty much spent a good portion on the time talking to people interested in buy my car. Seemed like all had a $110 to $115 figure the threw out as would take. The car wasn't for sake however @ those prices for a non Carbon Fiber new GT500 it did give me 2nd thoughts. Would like to see videos that dwell on the 2022 GT500 in the Auction/Sales & performance areas. Thank you.

Having had all mustangs made in the past 20 years the 2020 gt500 is the best still don't understand all the nonsense about the gt500 DCt trans in fact its one of the best trans ever made
At least for me it’s not that the DCT is bad, it’s that there isn’t a manual. I have had two F1 trans and loved them both! One a single clutch on the 360 which people love to hate and a DCT on a M3. Both great but would of vastly preferred the manual on the 360. I think it’s car related for some and just a preference for others.
Yes, I think the GT350R was 100lbs lighter than the regular GT350. Perhaps more if you got the carbon wheels, I’m not sure on the last part though. It’s not by much according to the data though.
