In Ethiopian culture there is a saying “ from the food they offer you the smile they receive you is more worthy or to that extent ...” when Ethiopians smile and feed you you feel like you are in heaven... because food is important but the true happiness that embraces everyone is more meaningful and it makes you love and appreciate life more... this is what this video represents. So many villages in Africa are considered poor, however I see them as rich in culture and community spirit. Everyone helps for the betterment of their community, they look so happy. Mankind could learn from them rather than killing each other, and consuming more and more. Materialistic world, greed, when there's enough for everyone.
ABSOLUTELY rich. That was my comment before I read your. And it is not only Africa. All over the world. I went to Croatia where they just spread themselves out for me and did anything and everything for me. The same with a village in Romania and Poland. The less-materialistic the world, the better and the more loving the people!
It's the need for the Western & Urban way of living instead of the self sufficient way of native living that to a large extent has resulted in slums, poverty & dying out of centuries old practices. People need to adopt new ways but the use of old ways should be blended in & not forgotten. People used resources from what was locally available but now it's mostly about things not available locally thus creating demands that's not easily & cheaply fulfilled. Where Bamboo & clay could be used for walls now it's plastic, asbestos, etc
You should tell that to Europe and China who are plundering Africa for resources on the cheap. No one would have cell phones if it weren’t for the Cobalt.
Wow this is real traditional life, I'm from neighbouring Kenya and I hardly see huts in our villages, everyone is building modern houses. People don't even use this pounding thing anymore, I never even saw it as I grew up in the city. I'm so impressed by their simple lifestyle! ! The food looks delicious and the people look happy and healthy ☺
Same as in South Africa we use to live in huts made of mud and grass peacefully back in the day but now I am afraid that the following generations would not get to see the beauty and pureness of their culture without these current disease and problems

Wow so much respect for the people of Ethiopia, those huts are awesome but when you see the manual labour, the culture and how they find ways to live without electricity etc, it really makes you appreciate what most people take for granted. Wonderful video Mark thank you.
FitAngie hi but the whole of africa here had electricity when the pyramids and obsleiks were active .pyramids and obsleiks were nuclear power grids used to generate electricity but they were disabled during the invasion.am Kenyan also here they were disabled and the ruins are visible.our grandfather's here were once so advanced in chemistry and math.our kingdom of Egypt or khemeta was once so great.
FitAngie does it make me excited about electricity. what makes me excited is the fertility of the land the traditions of the people and the love for their families that's what's important in a end and the beginning
She was cooking the whole time while smiling, i couldnt stop smiling while watching this entire video to see everything there and just wow thank you for letting us live that moment with you!!
I’ve watched so many of Mark’s videos but this one was by far MY FAVORITE! Such unique and wonderful footage. I’ve seen lots of videos about Ethiopia but this one had NEW things. Very interesting how in the beginning of their trip to the village the man riding on the back of the vehicle said it was the “land of Judah”. This video was a treasure. Thanks Mark!

They will as they can see there's money to be made in the nicely built cities , the Afar people are being educated and want to leave their homes and parents for a better life in the city
And extreme poverty, low healthcare quality, high infant and pregnant women death rates, low life expectancy... Don't glorify their hardship, it's a really stupid, ignorantly privileged view of these people's lives.

Ethiopians have some of the most beautiful people on earth. The culture goes way back to the Bible. Moses, a Jew, married an Ethiopian woman named Zephora and they had kids. It was once a wealthy country and when the Ethiopian Queen heard about Solomon, King of Israel, she went to see for herself all the stories she heard. She was so impressed she spent months at his palace... and she brought with her many gifts for the King. I noticed the cross in the truck and thank God they are still living their Christian tradition up to this day. Thanks for a lovely video.

What I like sbout Mark Weins is that he not only shows us the food and describes it but he also shows us the culture behind how things are made. He is very mindful of the culture's representation of their way of life....something that a lot of us will never get because we can't visit so the closest thing are his videos. Hey Mark if you ever come back to Ethiopia please visit Awasa it’s one of the most beautiful cities in Ethiopia such a hidden gem. Full of delicious food. Very known for their fish up there. And also hot springs. I can be sure your wife and Micah would love it to. Also if you go there check out a place called mamas kitchen she makes the best and greatest ox tail and goat curry you’ll ever taste. Cheers and stay blessed fam.
I really enjoyed the series about Ethiopia! Ethiopians have such a captivating smile ! And the coffee must be really delicious over there! Much love to you all from a Brazilian living in the Netherlands. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ahh I remember traveling to Ethiopia 10 years ago. I miss it so dearly I even lost 30 in their month just by walking and eating natural foods. I want to go back the culture is out of this world and way more friendlier than these American people in 2019. Ethiopia I’m coming back one day love from California
In 2006 I was very fortunate to work in Ethiopia in a very remote area. The village I was staying in is 400kilometres west of Addis Ababa. I was there as a midwife and what an amazing experience. The Ethiopian people are lovely and greet you with Great warmth. While I was there I took lots of photos and wrote lots of newsletters, what we would call blogs now. In the middle of my 6 months I travelled up north and did the tourist trail and learnt a lot about the history of the country. During Covid I have been reading all my writings and looking at my photos and videos. The technology was not as advanced as it is now. It would be great to revisit the village and see the people again and see if obstetric care has improved. I shall put that on my bucket list. Any body out there wishing to make a documentary get in touch. I have been a midwife in the UK for over 25 years and retired now. While I was in Ethiopia I saw things that I would never have seen in a developed country.

FitAngie thanks

I’ve watched so many of Mark’s videos but this one was by far MY FAVORITE! Such unique and wonderful footage. I’ve seen lots of videos about Ethiopia but this one had NEW things.
Very interesting how in the beginning of their trip to the village the man riding on the back of the vehicle said it was the “land of Judah”.
This video was a treasure. Thanks Mark!

Fancy is relative. Wouldn't have any of that cholesterol dripping garbage westerners call food.
Fancy you mean it doesn't have a French name?
You think this is easy to make? LOL. No Western chef could make this.

African Americans are from west Africa not East africa
@@ivorysteele They are still african.
Ethiopia is Africa, and their culture is similar to a lot of African culture (west Africa included)
@@ivorysteele Plenty of them are also mixed with Central and East African tribes. Not just West African tribes. Anywho regardless of the direction they're African.
When I went to Africa, to the Maasai people in Tanzania, I was blown away by their friendliness and hospitality. It's criminal how Africa and Africans have been treated by the West, and humbling how welcoming they are even so.

They will as they can see there's money to be made in the nicely built cities , the Afar people are being educated and want to leave their homes and parents for a better life in the city
Ethiopia is mondern already. Just like other places in Africa with cities and tall glass buildings just like in the us.

This is what we call a life...nature serenity... No deadlines... No targets just food and peace

Come with peace.. we love you
In 2006 I was very fortunate to work in Ethiopia in a very remote area.
May God bless those strong hands cooking that food for you mark....
Yeah, i noticed the trademark smile of people who live in the mountains. Dorze Tribe, may God bless you and keep you
