Love how Milo, despite being the ‘nerd stereotype’ isn’t an absolute wimp or pushover.
“We’ve done a lot of things we’re not proud […] but nobody got hurt. Okay maybe somebody got hurt, but nobody we _knew_ “ love that line 😂
Some funny trivia about the movie was that the production staff would wear T-shirts with the text "Atlantis: less songs, more explosions". It is no wonder that the movie has the highest killcount of any Disney movie.
But although there are less songs, I feel obligated to say that the soundtrack has so many bangers.
And as a final fun tidbit, the Atlantean language was created by the same guy that made the Klingon language from Star trek and the king is played by Leonard Nimoy who played Spock.
Follow up fact for the final fact, it took about two years to create this language.
And there is an actual Atlantean font you can download, I’ve seen it.
Can confirm. Although Mulan arguably had a higher body count. Maybe. -gt
@@gtrous665 I can see how that is something up for discussion, but I disagree. I can accept that a large amount of people die in Mulan (it is a movie with both a Chinese and Hun army wiped out, as well as a destroyed village after all) but Atlantis has the destruction of a highly technological civilization (which could be anywhere between the sizes of 10 000 and 500 000) we also have the King state that he uses the Heart of Atlantis as a nuke so we can assume there was someone else that was a big enough threat to Atlantis to make the use of such a weapon necessary, which would mean the potential destruction of another civilization as well. I will admit that I have basically made up my numbers but I don't think they are a stretch.😁
Yeah, it could be a topic for discussion. Size of ancient China vs size of a comparable ancient civilization for comparison. But I don’t think you can count casualties of the Atlantean adversaries in an off-screen war (Mu, or Ur, or Lemuria or whoever). For all anyone knows, the thermonuclear blast in the first 10 seconds of the film was a misfire and didn’t hit the enemy. It’s all conjecture. But otherwise I think you’re right.
@@gtrous665 I must say I have never considered that the explosion could have been a miss, but I find that unlikely since the king said "it overwhelmed us" indicating that the explosion was simply larger than expected.
Of course, as you said it happens off-screen and we can only guess, but that is what makes it fun to consider these questions, and exploring their outcomes.
Although I do feel the need to counter your argument about it happening off-screen with not all of China partakes in the war. all death shown on-screen is those two armies, some border guards and a mountain village. We can assume there is more death as a part of the war but that is basically all we see in that movie.
But I agree that I might have overstated the casualties by adding my own interpretation.
One thing I really liked about that film is it was not afraid to go dark like when Audrey had to close that one door where she sacrificed some crewmembers to save the ship.
Yes. That scene also seemed to be inspired by a similar scene in "Titanic", massive success and came out soon before (I think? If I remember correctly?)
Atlantis is one of my favourites - thanks for reacting to it!! I’m writing this before I’ve watched the whole thing so I hope you enjoyed it!
It was really great! An underrated movie for sure
@@SophieLents My friend I loved your reaction and I agree it really is underrated and should get more attention from disney
The animation in this film is so fantastic. It's an underappreciated Disney movie. Thanks for reacting to it. Welcome back. 💛
the story felt rushed though
As to why they speak so many languages, Milo explained his theory on that while you were praising them for knowing so many languages hehe. he thinks their language is a root language for a lot of them. :)
Just discovered you tonight and LOVING your reactions so far! You have a new subscriber
There's actually some very interesting history behind the particular studio that made this movie.
This, and several other movies came from the Florida studio, which for a long time was a backup animation studio that did work the main Burbank studio didn't have time for.
Then in 1996 Disney decided to focus all their energy on transitioning to 3D animation, acquired Pixar and started working on A Bug's Life.
They basically told the Florida studio (their only remaining full-time 2D animation studio) they could do whatever movies they wanted.
And the Florida studio, for the first time, got to produce feature films:
• Mulan (1998)
• Tarzan (1999)
•John Henry (2000)
• The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
• Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
• Lilo & Stitch (2002)
• Brother Bear (2003)
Then in 2004 Disney decided to stop producing 2-D feature films altogether, closed down the Florida studio and laid off all the animators.
Many of whom then got hired by Dreamworks.
While the Florida studio assisted on this movie, it was primarily produced in the Burbank Disney Studio by the same team that did The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast. While Atlantis was in production in Burbank, Lilo and Stitch was on a slightly parallel full production track in Orlando.
I love that Mylo is Michael J Fox 🥺 I wish he could do more voice acting he has such a unique voice
This movie really shaped my core personality when I saw it as a kid and I still love it dearly. It's a Top 10 underrated Disney movie, Milo is a Top 10 Disney protagonist, and Milo and Kida are a Top 10 Disney relationship
Atlantis has been a favorite of mine since childhood, but I finally watched this last night for the first time in 15 years! Awesome coincidence!
Wow, that’s awesome!
@@SophieLents my friend, if you liked this movie, I still highly recommend doing a reaction to the Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002). It is a must see if you like animals like rhinos and elephants, for it deals with protecting them from poachers
Yay! Atlantis is one of my favorite movies from when I was a kid. I watched it over and over. Why Kida isn't considered a Disney princess when she is literally a Disney princess is beyond me...loved the reaction, Sophie!
Well by the end of the movie she is actually a Queen.
Milo Thatch is the best Disney prince. Loved this xD
I love this movie so much, I actually named my cat Milo!
Altantis lost empire has so much body counts which is insane
You totally should check out Atlantis 2 Milo's Return! I had that movie snd saw it many times and it's part of my childhood. They originally thought to do it in episodes but made a whole movie about it. And there is like 3 parts, 3 diffrent stories and mixed those together
I'm still disappointed Disney didn't make it an actual series like they originally planned to. I would've loved that!!!
Michael J. Fox as linguist explorer Milo Thatch is perfect for the role. He delivered a wonderful performance in this Disney adventure film!
Many will know him best as Alex P. Keaton or Marty McFly, but his underrated roles like Milo in Atlantis? That was a memorable role to me when I was a kid back in 2001 watching this in theaters at that time!
You should watch the Back To The Future Trilogy if you haven't already. The guy who voiced Milo in this movie plays the main character and has the same kind of energy. I think you'll really enjoy it.
We're all happy that your back, Sophie! I'm really glad that your doing much better and always remember that we'll always be here for you no matter what happens. Keep up the awesome videos as I always say and I can't wait to see what you have plans for this month! ❤🤗
Thank you so much! ❤️
@@SophieLents when you react to all the shrek films
Welcome back! It's so good to see you again, and I'm sure we all look forward to seeing future reactions!
I always drew the city and was obsessed with the leviathan✨
Glad you're back Sophie and OMG what a movie to come back on! Atlantis is my favorite Disney movie of all time and so this reaction was awesome!
I have nothing clever to say, just enjoyed the reaction and so dropping some algorithm love, keep at it!! Watching these reactions is so much fun!
Thanks as always ❤️
OMG hope your doing well I missed. I love this movie so much 100% underrated.
Did you ever saw back to the future? Well the voice actor for milo thatch is Micheal J Fox the guy who plays Marty McFly in Back To The Future movie trilogy.
WOW this is a really good movie !!!
this was my first time watching it as well.
love your videos so much !!
also glad that you’re back from your break, you deserved it and can’t wait to continue to watch and support your channel more sophie
much love to you ❤️❤️❤️
your the sweetest and prettiest ever sophie ❤️❤️❤️✨
Welcome back I missed you and your videos so much 😭 happy to hear that you are healing, lots of love ❤️🩹✨🥰
Thank you!
I dressed as Audrey Ramirez for this past San Diego Comic-Con. I honestly thought no one would get it because I thought the movie was so old and I haven’t seen anyone really cosplay any character at comic con but I was wrong. People did recognize who I was dressed as 😂
What a return! Atlantis is one of my favorite Disney movies and I am so happy to see your reaction
Hope you like it :’)
Sooooo glad you are back Sophie!!!!! and life goes on! I love this movie....have a great weekend!!!!!!
The editing for this was *chef's kiss*.
Fun fact about Mexico: This movie is supposed to take place in 1914, but the Mexican flag shown (on the bed) is Venustiano Carranza's design from 1916. It's easy to distinguish because before the flag had a front-facing eagle with outstretched wings.
Such a fun movie, memorable characters, twist villain.
Thanks so much, #SophieLents, for uploading this awesome movie reaction. I love your content very much because it's so cool, and I really enjoy watching you react to different movies.
Interesting fact about Edna: she’s voiced by Brad Bird, The director of The Incredibles
those big fish mr. whitmore has swimming in his home, are coelacanths, giant prehistoric fish that we thought were still extinct at the time this movie takes place. so mr. whitmore having them is a hidden clue that he loves finding lost things that the world thinks don't exist anymore!
you should definitely look up what a coelacanth looks like. you're literally looking at something that existed millions of years into the past, that is still swimming around today! they are harmless but crazy looking.
This is the most underrated film that I have ever seen
This film was fantastic. Ngl, I kinda like how dark old Disney films like this, Tarzan & Hercules were sometimes.
Also, I hope you’ve been doing well. I’m still recovering from Covid. So thank you for the amazing reactions. ❤️
18:30 literally my exact same thought, they not only look similar but act pretty damn similar as well
19:03
“A thousand years ago we would have slain them on sight.”
“A thousand years ago the streets 🤘🏻👌🏻✌🏻 were LIT 🔥😂🔥😎👍🏻💯💯💯💶💴.”
I was so excited for this movie reaction! can't wait to finishe the video 😊
Edit: Love your reactions! I had to replay your squeal when Kida was getting in the water x)

love your reactions. Its fun seeing how much you enjoy the movies. hang in there
A new icon after over 3 weeks of nothing? Well if we expected that...
Glad to have you back and really like the icon!
Thanks
Atlantis is such a great movie
I mean, it was a tidbit too short, and that clayton-like guy was *obviously* evil, but the visuals! the adventure!
The age thing as well as the implications got me mildly confused (is all the cast gonna live for thousands of years since they all got a crystal now?) but definitely a good movie.
Also 100% support with the milo fangirling. He's a great character
Being a linguist, I love movie in which linguists are the protagonists. They are few and far between.
So good to have You back, so sorry that wasn't the Best time for you. If It makes you feel better, having a coffee and a chat with you will be a lifetime bless. We love you Girl!

Sophie your reaction to Kida's swimwear at 20:56 minutes, was priceless and personally lasted too short like ma gurl that was only 2 seconds!!!🥲😹Regardless, I enjoyed your overall reaction and I thank you for making my day a whole lot better 💝
welcome back!! and youa re watching one of my faves. :D
When i was a scout our themr was Atlantis, we had a whole translator for that language and the leaders would leave clues for what we did each week and we had to figure it out.

Ayy i missed your reactions! Great way to return with this film
3:32 "He looks like 20 maybe 25 did he just spend his whole time researching this one thing? that is absurd" no my dear, that is a grad student
Good to see you back
I saw Atlantis in the theater. Such a fun movie and a great love story.
Welcome back to UA-cam. I also really like your profile picture.
I'm commenting to help your video. Glad you're back!

Science still ponders the possibilities of Atlantis, but a very likely possibility is what is Santorini today. 3.5k years ago it was a large island, but the island blew up and there are small pieces of it left today. There was two parts to the (then) empire, with the second half being on what is Crete today. The (then) residents were called Minoans in honor of their king-Minos. When Santorini blew, a giant tsunami washed over Crete. Archeological digs have found pure copper relics. The only place that pure copper is found is the upper peninsula of Michigan. A mining camp that was suddenly abandoned thousands of years ago has been found on the peninsula. By the way, the after effects of the eruption were described, but exaggerated, in the book of Exodus in the Bible. Since the fall out drifted south, it must be presumed that the eruption happened in the fall or winter.
This was a film that I always watched when it came on tv. Disney has some hidden gems from the early 2000s and this is one of them.
OH MY GOD thank you so much for putting an ABBA song in your reaction 🤩🤩🤩 It makes everything 100 times better for me 😂😅😁🥰
Hi Sophie hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
I loved this movie as a kid. So many funny quotes to be remembered. "YOU HAVE DISTURBED THE DIRT!" and "were all gonna die" have to be some of my favorite. This movie actually got an old pc game that went out as a sort of preview type thing. It had a scene cut from the movie that showed some vikings that owned the journal milos father found. They were taken out by the leviathan. The tutorial level was you playing as a soldier along with milos grandfather. Then the main game you play as milo. It was an adventure/action/ shooter game for like windows 98 and xp. Back when disney got away with a gun disquised as a drill machine that shoots beams using different crystal gems lol. I never realised but yeah the old lady in this is a lot like edna. Maybe she is edna grandmother or something. She did get her share of the profit in the end.
Yeah, and the "England should never mix with France!" Well, if you know the history between those two nations, plus the fact that Moliere is French, it adds another layer to it. Viva la France! :-D 😀
Glad your back!
Apparently the production team all had T-shirts made that said "Atlantis: Fewer Songs, More Explosions"
one of my favorite childhood movies
I'm so happy anytime someone watches this movie, it's a great movie and too often forgotten.
really glad you did this one
Something- but seriously, welcome back; I hope you're doing well.
Really liked ur reaction and your editing as usual👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
