I had a boss named James Sullivan. One of his friends, Mike, also worked there. They were not fans of me quoting this movie at them all the time hahaha

A bit of background information: 1) When this movie was made, California was going through an energy shortage, and there were "rolling blackouts". (Pixar is located in Emeryville, California, near San Francisco.) It actually turns out there wasn't really an energy shortage, and it was just because Enron was manipulating the energy market in California. (But no one knew that at the time.) 2) Finding Nemo was released two years after Monsters, Inc. (But Pixar was already working on Finding Nemo before Monsters, Inc. was finished.) So, no one would have recognized the Finding Nemo easter egg when Monsters, Inc. was originally released.
They've actually been doing that ever since. Finding Nemo had an Incredibles easter egg, Up had a Toy Story 3 easter egg, Cars 2 had a Brave easter egg, etc.
Loads of animated films from the same time had a prominent odd-couple leading pair, such as Toy Story and Shrek, and those films started off by having the characters not like each other and become friends over the course of the film. I find it really refreshing that we've skipped over that for Monsters Inc, and basically just start off with Mike and Sully having clearly been friends for a long time, and then just jump straight into the story from there
I'm actually surprised it took so long for them to find out laughter pumps out more energy than screams. I'd assume some monsters in the past would have screwed up and made a child laugh.
Another thing is that I’d assume that police and other investigators would find out about the monsters that’s scaring children in the human world by now, especially cause kids scream every time a monster scares them, alerting the parents or guardians
I think it's a part of the social/political commentary. If energy is scarce you can charge a premium. I think that they knew from the start but did not want to change the system because it won't benefit them.
14:27 There's a theory that these monsters weren't talking about Boo but about Jack-Jack from The Incredibles [Incredibles 2 spoilers] Because in the second movie it shows that he can travel to another dimension, which in this case would be that of monsters and the description of them matches the powers that the baby has

Say, about that part where eyewitnesses were claiming that Boo could fly, have laser vision, and telekinetic mind powers, they were CLEARLY exaggerating details and outright lying just to make their stories sound more interesting. Heck, even in the human world that happens in the news sometimes, where some folks either exaggerate or lie about what they see or claim to see, just to get notoriety.

29:40 Just wanna point out with that Nemo toy, Monsters, Inc. came out in 2001 Finding Nemo came out in 2003. So they put that easter egg 2 years before the movie.
You need to watch the short which was on the DVD called "Mike's New Car". Our children were still young, but all of us laughed till we cried it is so funny.
Sulley's constant fainting as he think Boo goes through the trash compactor, is borrowed from the Chuck Jones cartoon Feed the Kitty where Marc-Anthony the Bulldog thinks his friend Pussyfoot the Kitten is being baked into a batch for cookies by his mistress, helplessly watching through the window fainting over and over in horror.
About the thing they call children "toxic". I have a theory here, boys and girls. So, imagine monsters got into humans world during Middle Ages and then they were met by an angry mob with pitchforks and got injured-it's logical that the first impression of the human world was destroyed. And so monsters came up with the idea to create this myth for their own safety. Humans are not "toxic", they are dangerous-that's the thing. And, hell yeah, monsters are right-I mean, if one of them would get here-he'd be shoved into a lab immediately. Oh, and I really can't wait for you to react to "Monsters University". This film has a great message.
Fun fact: The voice actor for Mike, Billy Crystal was actually offered to play Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story but he turned it down thinking the film was going to a failure. Then he found out that Toy Story was really, really popular and he kicked himself. So when he was offered another Pixar role, he took it.
🙂 Just like "Cars" was noteworthy for being Paul Newman's final role (as Doc Hudson), "Monsters Inc" is noteworthy for being James Coburn's final screen credit (as Waternoose). If neither of those names sound familiar to you, check out their entries over at the IMDb, and prepare to do A LOT of scrolling.
I can relate that I didn’t really like animated movies when I was younger but I did watch monsters Inc. and there’s another movie of monsters Inc. called monsters University and it’s basically about how sully and mike became friends. I suggest you watch that movie too because it’s adorable just like this one! There’s also a series on Disney+ called monsters at work! Seriously I love monsters Inc.
The Alert Code 2319 stands for letters 23 = W and 19 = S, short for White Sock. This was unfortunatey missed in the swedish dub because they just translated the number directly and missed the notion of what the letters stand for, because in swedish it would have been 22 = V 19 = S standing for Vit Strumpa (white sock). Most likely this was overlooked in other dubs because it's way too subtle to be obvious to the average audience member (especialy kids). A bigger miss that could have been done correctly is that they say CDA without translating Child Detection Agency, for if it was translated the letters most likely would have been BUB (BarnUpptäckarByrån, translation of Child Detection Agency).
I think the reason they don't show Boo at the end is because they want to leave it ambiguous how much time has passed in the human world. Maybe it's actually been years for her.
You can tell the voice is slightly different when she says Kitty, and given how young she was in the film (2 years old), id say... at a guess maybe a year, maybe even 2 years at most had passed?
I’m not sure if you read your comments however there’s a really underrated movie called red shoes and the seven dwarfs, nobody that I know of has done a reaction for it but it’s such a good movie (If you’ve seen the trailers for it don’t let them trick you, the original trailers made it sound like a fat shaming movie when it’s quite the opposite, the advertisements are probably the reason it didn’t become popular)
14:31 actually this could have actually happened, it's a theory that makes a lot of sense, you just have to pay attention to a second certain disney movie 👀👌🏻
And so Boo would grow up to be Abby from Turning Red before accidentally inventing time travel while looking for a way to visit Sully and then become the witch from Brave.
It's funny that you think it's weird that Mike calls sully big daddy because Sully's voice actor is John Goodman who plays big daddy La bouff in princess and the frog
I had a boss named James Sullivan. One of his friends, Mike, also worked there. They were not fans of me quoting this movie at them all the time hahaha

They thought humans were toxic because up until this, no monster in the monster world has ever touched a human before
When he said it could let in a child, he didn't meant it could let a child into the room, he meant it could let a child into their world.
18:58 I guess you saw the end credits. I think everyone would love to see your reaction on this
Did you see the stuff in the credits? That musical joke comes back into play...
all the monsters had to do to scare me was put a spider near or in my room
Thank you for this video 😄😄🥰 I watch your videos since 1 week and I love it ! Continue ! Good luck from France ! 😄😉
Your comment about the supernatural flashback got me!!! I love supernatural so much 💖
I can relate that I didn’t really like animated movies when I was younger but I did watch monsters Inc. and there’s another movie of monsters Inc. called monsters University and it’s basically about how sully and mike became friends.
I suggest you watch that movie too because it’s adorable just like this one!
There’s also a series on Disney+ called monsters at work!
Seriously I love monsters Inc.
thanks for brightening my day 💚
Oh thank you for this reaction 😊 Monsters Inc my first favourite Pixar movie and Sulley first favourite Pixar character 💙💜🥰
Great video as always this is definitely one of my favourite movies😊
The Alert Code 2319 stands for letters 23 = W and 19 = S, short for White Sock. This was unfortunatey missed in the swedish dub because they just translated the number directly and missed the notion of what the letters stand for, because in swedish it would have been 22 = V 19 = S standing for Vit Strumpa (white sock). Most likely this was overlooked in other dubs because it's way too subtle to be obvious to the average audience member (especialy kids).
A bigger miss that could have been done correctly is that they say CDA without translating Child Detection Agency, for if it was translated the letters most likely would have been BUB (BarnUpptäckarByrån, translation of Child Detection Agency).
remember to watch the prequel too ( monsters university )
It’s a kids comedy, just go along for the ride and don’t overthink it.
4:03 If you see a tentacle in your room I think that's a different genre to horror
There actually is a episode series on Disney plus called monsters at work
27:30 In order to roll down a conveyor belt every door needs at least one wheel.
Now think of a walking talking piece of uranium. That’s how the monsters see kids
Hi Sophie hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
I think the reason they don't show Boo at the end is because they want to leave it ambiguous how much time has passed in the human world. Maybe it's actually been years for her.
You can tell the voice is slightly different when she says Kitty, and given how young she was in the film (2 years old), id say... at a guess maybe a year, maybe even 2 years at most had passed?
Great reaction Sophie thank you! :)
This movie is a Pixar classic with it’s beautiful animation and creative world building. Can you react to Dreamworks’ The Bad Guys soon?
I love Disney & Pixar's Monsters Inc (2001)!
I’m not sure if you read your comments however there’s a really underrated movie called red shoes and the seven dwarfs, nobody that I know of has done a reaction for it but it’s such a good movie
(If you’ve seen the trailers for it don’t let them trick you, the original trailers made it sound like a fat shaming movie when it’s quite the opposite, the advertisements are probably the reason it didn’t become popular)
I LOVE Monsters Inc, and I have ever since I was 3.
14:31 actually this could have actually happened, it's a theory that makes a lot of sense, you just have to pay attention to a second certain disney movie 👀👌🏻
I really like the stanger things reference!
A yodeling party isn't a polish thing, it's either german, austria and/or swiss.
I always will love this movie, and watching it with my youngest Nephew and how much he loved this movie
And so Boo would grow up to be Abby from Turning Red before accidentally inventing time travel while looking for a way to visit Sully and then become the witch from Brave.
One of the best Pixar movies ever In my opinion so much Nostalgia 😊
I said "Kitty!" just like Boo when I saw you cat in the background
It's funny that you think it's weird that Mike calls sully big daddy because Sully's voice actor is John Goodman who plays big daddy La bouff in princess and the frog
