    I cite Lord of the Rings:
    "And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth."
    With enough time history can become legend and legends become myth. Troy used to be considered a myth until it was actually discovered. Just because we haven't found Atlantis yet doesn't automatically make it myth.
    It's important to have an open mind ☺️

    • @GuukanKitsune
      @GuukanKitsune 2 роки тому +6

      Just because something is a myth doesn't mean it's not real. Myths are born when history becomes story and grows into legend in the telling. The thing about myths, though, is sometimes they become far more grand and impressive than the actual thing they originated from in a millenia-long game of telephone.
      Although, in Atlantis' case, Plato admitted his account was mostly an allegory story for how Man's inherent imperfection reflects itself in all of man's endeavors, and will ultimately be the source of the downfall of all man does.
      So a lot of his account is only a story... though it may have been based on or inspired by an actual place and destructive event.
      Essentially, Plato wrote a fictional philosophical novel that was inspired by true events, which many people have taken to be entirely true. Most historians place the actual place and event as being the destruction of the Island of Santorini, which with one volcanic explosion went from a powerful, wealthy Mycenaen trading kingdom on a large island to absolutely nobody and just about no remaining buildings on a ring of very, very small islets.
      The Island of Lemuria, on the other hand, may have existed and possibly could be found somewhere at the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

    • @hornet1065
      @hornet1065 2 роки тому

      @@GuukanKitsune It might very well be that way. I'm open to both alternatives.
      But do you have a source that Plato said that? A direct quote you can cite maybe?
      Personally I think there is a high probability that The Eye of Africa was the place of Atlantis. The measurements and surrounding environment of that "eye" match the measurements and description Plato said.

      @@hornet1065 There’s not enough evidence and too many conflicting stories for it to be in Mauritania. Also the richat structure was not formed by the forces described, but a slow process of erosion of different rock layers, and were uplifted into a dome shape in the Cretaceous, far before the time of humans. Also the area was inhabited by early humans such as homo erectus, evidenced by the stone tools found there that they used. If we can find artifacts dating one million years ago there, where are the artifacts from the much more recent civilization of “Atlantis?” I believe the person you replied to has the right idea and with much more evidence than the richat structure.

      There was an ancient city on an island in a river delta on the Southwest coast of Spain, just outside the "Pillars Of Hercules." A city with a reputation for metallurgy, a penchant for bulls, built in concentric rings, with a spiral as it's symbol. At the height of it's power, this city had at least three names, depending on the culture discussing it.
      It currently lies under nearly 200 ft of mud, in what is now a national park on the coast of Spain.

The moral of the story is that greed is a power temptation and that people you believe to be good or of professional character could always change in an instant, and that greed will always take life, never give. Kida's father is the same way, he became tempted with greed by the power of the crystals, and used that power for his own personal ambitions /desires. Fun Fact: The fish in the tank behind Whitmore and Milo in the beginning has a prehistoric fish that was believed extinct. It was later discovered to still exist sometime after this movie took place, meaning that Whitmore found and obtained an 'extinct' fish and kept it in his tank. If he made a habit of doing things like this, it would certainly explain why he was able to believe in Atlantis so easily.

      The steampunk tech makes me think a version of it could've been invented by Whitmore in this world, although IRL, SCUBA gear wouldn't be patented until 1952. We can partially thank Jacques Cousteau for that. However, tethered hard-helmet underwater breathing apparatuses existed in 1914, so those could've been used.

      @@moviemaestro800 It is often the case that people invent things "ahead of time", before everyone else, but either use it just for their own personal purposes, or the knowledge about the discovery is not widespread enough, until someone more influential takes it and patents it or mass-produces it. It was the case with many mathematical discoveries, as well as technical inventions. The majority people to this day associate Edison with the invention of light bulb, Marconi with the radio, Bell with telephone, etc., even if all these inventors had their predecessors and merely improved and commercialized other people's genius discoveries. It is often the case with mathematical discoveries that it is not the people who really made the discovery, but the people who aggregated lots of such discoveries of other people and published them in their famous books are considered as those who discovered them by the public, while the original discoverers are known only to those who study history of science, because they weren't as famous and influential as those who the majority considers the geniuses.
      Sometimes it might even be that a discovery gets lost in the sands of time, only to be rediscovered by someone else centuries later. This might be the case with the Crookes tube that looks suspiciously similar to what you can find embossed on the walls of a pyramid in Dendera. Could it be that ancient Egyptians knew cathode ray tubes, plasma and electricity? It is very likely, considering that what could be described as an ancient version of Leyden jars (basically electrical capacitors made of a ceramic vessel coated with metal from both sides) and galvanic cells, so they must have known electricity. You may find other similar descriptions/depictions of "modern" technologies in ancient scriptures or pictures. Now imagine that there's a giant cataclysm on Earth today, and every achievement of our modern civilization gets buried. Then, a couple thousand years later, some not-so-developed people in the future find remnants of our civilization. This might inspire them to "reinvent" some of our technologies again, and most of them will think that they are the first one who invented it all. By analogy, this might be the case with many of our current inventions. Atlantis, if it really ever existed, might have been such a civilization who already got those high-tech inventions, but got buried under the sea and all of that has been lost, and had to be reinvented by us later.

      The three episodes in the "sequel", though, are pretty GOOD: There's a heavy Gargoyles vibe coming off of the series' concept of having the team investigate old legends, and the "mean" team improves their nature considerably once the plot actually gives the something to do.

It is actually the first 3 episodes of a failed and unaired Atlantis sequel series. Since the first 3 episodes were made before it got prematurely cancelled, they didn't want them to go to waste. So, they combined the 3 episodes into a semi-coherent narrative and made a ending that they hoped would satisfy the viewer. I, personally, enjoyed it. If you liked this movie, then you should at least watch it at some point.

    Fun little easter egg:
    Those fishies in Whitmore's aquarium are a pair of Coelacanths. They are an ancient species of fish that originated in the Devonian period, around 170 million years before the dinosaurs had evolved. Throughout the Mesozoic era(the 186 million year era the dinosaurs ruled the Earth), some dinosaurs and marine reptiles even preyed upon them. Coelacanths were thought to have gone extinct alongside the dinosaurs during the KT-extinction(the meteor-strike) 65 million years ago, until they were rediscovered to still be alive in 1938 thriving in the waters between Africa and Madagascar, and off the the coast of Indonesia. They are very elusive and prefer to live deep underwater.
    What makes these fish so unique, aside from how long they've existed, is that they are closer related to the ancestors of modern-day tetrapods(amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals) than to modern fish.
    And Whitmore rediscovered them in the early 1900s, long before their real-life rediscovery in 1938, highlighting his immense wealth and expeditionary career.

    Plato’s date for Atlantis corresponds to 9600 BC. Twenty-four hundred years later, archaeologists currently peg the end of the last Ice Age (and the flooding of any civilizations which may have existed at the depressed sea level, hundreds of feet below current sea level) at 9600 BC. Plato could not have known this, as he had no access to the ice cores on which the current estimate is based. Atlantis could therefore have been, or been based on, an actual event, but historians rate any events remembered from before the adoption of written records as legendary or even mythical. “Mythical” means less “false,” and more, “due to the lack of establishment-recognized evidence, we choose not to believe in it.”
