Came back to listen to this great Weather Channel tune with all the Lake Effect Snow hitting Buffalo NY Region today. Timeless and perfect for snow storms!
I remember this storm well. I was seven years old and lived in Camden, NJ. We got buried in over 2 feet of snow. Which as a kid was totally and completely fantastic. I built a ramp of snow up to the second story awning of our house with the snow and took my sled out the back window. Was pretty fun. Oh and no school for days was great too. We helped my grandparents dig out of the snow and piled it up until it was taller than the fences around the yard. Was a great time to be a kid. 1996 was a great year. I mean this and hale bop comet and Hey Arnold starting on Nickelodeon. Cmon! Sigh I miss the 90's.
I remember this storm vividly. I was 10 at the time, and school was closed for the entire week. My oldest niece was born just two months after this, in March of '96.😊
I got 35 inches from that storm, had 10 on the ground before it, and had 8 more 5 days later! The thing that really sucked was, about a week later it warmed to near 60f and rained 3", people seem to forget that...
I live in Forest Hill, Maryland, which is about 25 miles northeast of Baltimore, and I was only 8 months old when this happened but I think I remeber just a split second of this blizzard.
Wow. This brings back deep memories. I remember as a kid always hoping for that large snowflake in the extended forecast, the feeling it gave me is still palpable a quarter century later. I remember vaguely the day I saw "Heavy Snow" in the forecast, I think 4 days priot. The storm I remember vividly, I was 9 years old. During the second day of the storm the dark gray skies were puking snow the whole time. I lived (and grew up) within a km ofTeterboro Airport and we got right around 35 inches. I remember the path my father shoveled from the driveway to the porch was deeper than it was wide, the snow drifts reached the roofs of houses, the icicles a week later became foot-thick pillars between the second and first story roofing of my house, the beige-green snot rockets my friend's alcoholic father blew into the snow Bank in front of his house froze and were visible fast days. I'll never forget that time in my life.
Hey my birthday was the next day. I turned 14. Philly was so quiet, it was like a ghost town covered in snow. That was one of the funnest winter weeks I had in my life. You would walk on top of cars and not even know because the snow was so deep.
II live in northern Virginia just 40 miles south of DC along the I-95 corridor. I'm tracking the snowstorm for this weekend. I'm predicting 3-5 inches.
Blizzard of '96! Woo hoo! I remember it well. it was the first time they closed NYC public schools since the storm in 1978. I remember when they announced that the schools will be closed, my little brother and I cheered and jumped for joy around the house. I was a junior in high school then and would have loved any excuse to stay home.
I have a rule that I enforce for myself (especially this winter) that says "no snowfall accumulation predictions will be made more than 12 hours before the storm hits!" I don't think it's wise to go out on a limb and predict snow accumulations for a Sunday on a Friday for example.
it's so old green meant snow........I lived in central NJ, snow buried my car up to its windows, stuck in the house for 2 days, cabin fever big time and no internet or cellphones to keep us occupied.
I lived in southeast PA at the time of this storm. I don't really remember it though, I was only 4 when this blizzard happened. Anyone remember the Feb 2003 blizzard?
just saw a video by Joe Bastardi giving a long range prediction for next winter 2009-2010 that it will be cold & snowy much like the winter of 2002-2003 when we had that blizzard in 2003.
@DrFubarProzak A blizzard is a severe storm condition characterized by low temperatures, strong winds, and heavy snow. Forecast - heavy snow 10 - 12 inches predicted winds up to 30 MPH temps in lower 20s . What makes it not a blizzard?
@tweetylns you're lucky. Im 20 now, my family didnt have cable then either. I didnt know the weather channel existed until 2001 when I was in a hotel surfing the TV channels. 2008 was when my family FINALLY got cable!!!
@Intelliguy yup I remember the President's day blizzard of 2003 here in new york. Central Park, got 19.8 inches. I was 12 at the time and my entire family (including myself) was sick at the time. As a result, our house area was not shoveled for days. To make things worse, neither was our block. We were snowbound until that friday. luckily it occured during our winter break
I remember this storm well, although southern Vermont only got a few inches out of this one as it tracked further south than it usually does when that area gets hammered by Nor'easters
WOW, I remember actually watching this around this time... I was 15-16 so happy knowing no way in hell there would be school the next day. WOW classic shit...memories
I live in central NJ. How much snow do you estimate my area will get? The local forecast earlier said 1 to 2 inches, but if this is like the Superstorm from March, 1993, it could be more...much more. That's why I'm asking.
@thagrtstuvawltyme11 Yeah, me too...I love this tune, its gets me dreaming about the 1996 Blizzard. That was one heck of a storm and this clip brings all the memories right back, including the basic format of the weather channel graphics etc...which enjoy seeing as well.....Maybe 2013 will be the repeat year for a blizzard....
There is a storm similar to the Superstorm of '93 by February 2nd-4th, 2009 but this time the I-95 Corridor may get the Heaviest Snow. I will closely monitor this situation in the next few days. ;)
There are signs of a Large Storm that will take place in the West and it will swing eastward by the February 17th-20th, 2009, but this will result in much uncertainty in the storm track and intensity. Stay Tuned for more updates. :o
The Superstorm threat has been cancelled because the Sub-Tropical Jet and the Polar Jet will not combine at the right place. All that I can say is that Central NJ will have 3-6" of snow. However, there is a colder and stormier pattern by Mid-February to Early March and we may have a Historic Major Nor'easter if the NAO is deeply negative and the PNA is somewhat Positive. Also, the Stratospheric Layer of the Atmosphere will be very warm at February 15th. I will monitor the situation carefully. :D
Gotta be more specific. Do you find yourself getting nostalgic a lot in life. Are you depressed at all? Because it sounds like nostalgia... All times are good as long as you're alive. Bobywade enjoy life.
I am commenting #BringBackDislikes on every unique UA-cam video that I watch for the rest of 2024, regardless of if I actually dislike the video or not. This is video 5426.

Man, I just love a good winter storm! The lead up to it is almost better than the event itself.
Same. I was 6 and living in Central PA. It was glorious.
I was 9 also in Camden County! Blizzard of 96 is a core memory
I think the music goes great with this blizzard forecast. It fits perfectly with all that heavy snow & wind.
Man I wish I could go back to this time period. Life was good
I remember this i was 10 years old the good old days
The good ol days when the weather channel was actually worth watching.
john doe Yup
+john doe Who wants to watch Storm Stories.
I agree! Liberals have destroyed the Weather Channel and everything else they touch for that matter!
The old weather channel was amazing. When they had people who actually were good at their jobs unlike today. I miss hurricane expert Bob Hope.
I agree. I miss the good old days and when the weather channel was much better. I sure do miss growing up alot
One the greatest winter storms of all time... 28 inches of snow here in Essex County!
I posted on this video 5 years ago. Oh lord, why am I back.
I’m back again lol
So am I...lol!!
We are so back!
My first son was days away from being born when this storm closed down the city (I was in Philly at the time)!
Thx for posting this!
I remember this storm vividly. I was 10 at the time, and school was closed for the entire week. My oldest niece was born just two months after this, in March of '96.😊
Gotta love the weather on the 8's music! lol
I loved the old local on the 8's. They had so much more information.
I got 35 inches from that storm, had 10 on the ground before it, and had 8 more 5 days later! The thing that really sucked was, about a week later it warmed to near 60f and rained 3", people seem to forget that...
Holy shit, this brings back memories. Old school weather channel music and the 90s, sigh.
I used to watch the weather channel forecasts on the 8's just for the music. Trammell Sparks in this clip. Love it!!
Indeed. Reading, PA got 37 inches of snow... Just Incredible.
I live in Forest Hill, Maryland, which is about 25 miles northeast of Baltimore, and I was only 8 months old when this happened but I think I remeber just a split second of this blizzard.
Pier 32 by Trammell Starks
Watching this makes me sad especially the music it makes me wish it was the 90s everything sucks now.
In South central PA, we got 30 inches of snow from the presidents day snowstorm in 2003
Wow. This brings back deep memories. I remember as a kid always hoping for that large snowflake in the extended forecast, the feeling it gave me is still palpable a quarter century later.

I thought I'd never see a storm like this again...
Now I'll see two in the same winter. DAMN.
Hey my birthday was the next day. I turned 14. Philly was so quiet, it was like a ghost town covered in snow. That was one of the funnest winter weeks I had in my life. You would walk on top of cars and not even know because the snow was so deep.

I was 8 months old when this happened and we were stuck in our house for a couple of days.

I remember when they announced that the schools will be closed, my little brother and I cheered and jumped for joy around the house. I lived in Lehigh Valley, PA when this happened and I was 15 at the time. And we got 43 inches of snow. And school was closed for a whole week.
Awesome video! This brings me back to the less modern days!
I miss this
Matthew and I Cottonwood school days Luke was in high school at coalgate
I remember getting another 7 inches just a few days later in MD then the temps got unseasonably warm and caused a flood warning
No school for a week in Jersey City, we got 24+ inches of snow.
I have a rule that I enforce for myself (especially this winter) that says "no snowfall accumulation predictions will be made more than 12 hours before the storm hits!" I don't think it's wise to go out on a limb and predict snow accumulations for a Sunday on a Friday for example.
Best snowstorm of my life so far. I wanna see something bigger than this ....lets hope for 2011 2012 winter.
Oy! Those were the days!!
Places like West Virginia got a whopping 3-4 feet of snow!
Today is the 25th anniversary of that storm
I just picked up 17-20 inches from this last weekend's blizzard. I live in Stafford, Virginia.
it's so old green meant snow........I lived in central NJ, snow buried my car up to its windows, stuck in the house for 2 days, cabin fever big time and no internet or cellphones to keep us occupied.
Yeah I'm kinda depressed because life sucks now the 90s were so much better. I know i think about the past too much, your comment helped me a little.
I lived in southeast PA at the time of this storm. I don't really remember it though, I was only 4 when this blizzard happened. Anyone remember the Feb 2003 blizzard?

I do! I got 18 inches over here.
22 inches of snow in Feb 2003.
I was only 7 when the 1996 blizzard hit, tho.
im from central jersey we got 28 inches but there were 3-4 feet driftings
I was 6 when this happened! I rememebr it all too well. Snow was up to the roof of my school

@bobywade517
As a teenager in the 90's I have to agree
They play interesting music when you watch your local forecast
I live in central NJ. How much snow do you estimate my area will get? The local forecast earlier said 1 to 2 inches, but if this is like the Superstorm from March, 1993, it could be more...much more. That's why I'm asking.
I received 25 inches from the blizzard of 2009 Dec.19th storm.
It is unfathomable that this wasn't doctored.
this was the best storm ever

@hoodlow77 Yeah =( If i go to heaven my wish would be to go back to the 90s!
I heard that TWC actually sold tapes or CD's of their music.
i think this dropped 5 feet back then.

@DrFubarProzak and if rage was against the law, you would already be six feet under. Troll.
the 90s were better because people behaved better, more tolerable and connected than todays cell phone zombie phonies
The 90's sucked. What was good about the 90's?
