Very informative, just like all your videos. I love watching your videos, because you explain what you are doing to catch fish while you are trying to win s tournament.
This is great! Winter is here in Canada, I'm counting down the days for bass opener and fish lake st clair tournament with the Ontario kayak bass trial
Great information. Keep making the tournament videos. I got hooked on your videos and it inspired me to finally get a kayak. Two outings on the Upper Potomac (3 miles from my house) and 10 smallies! Tried a few things before getting bites on a zoom 6 inch lizard (pumpkin). I had never caught a fish on a plastic lure before! It was so fun! Keep fishing and showing us all how it's done.
Thanks Kristine, You sure do a nice job of respecting other anglers. I like your clean style. It is an obvious quality of your good character. Nicely done. : ) George.
I am not a dedicated kayak angler per se. BUT I do see tremendous value in the sport as a whole. The small environmental footprint is VERY appealing to me. The catch, measure and release aspect is definitely a great thing for the fish too! Less handling and them not sitting in a livewell all day long certainly looks great on the sport. Soo many pros that I myself might actually end up pursuing the competition side of it. I have been watching your content for a minute now and you are such a GREAT ambassador for the sport moving into the future. tight lines Kristine and if you ever find yourself around southeast Ohio I can point you in the right direction for some awesome fishing!

great video looking to retire soon and really enjoy my Hobie PA14 but I have a question on the most useful accessory you feel is a must have. I presently have longer H rails, rod holder, hobie box, fish tackle tray box, my drive is the std mirage drive turbo fins but not 180 or 360 so I guess my question is what would you not want to be without when fishing?

My pals in Ireland in the live music industry, always found themselves on the same thread mill. Eventually the few percent reach that big pay day (Ireland grows music talent like grass). But the ninety five percent who were also fabulous musicians many. The economics hammers them. And that dream ends. I was lucky to see 'The Scratch' play live in Limerick in December 2019. I was friends with the warm up group. The Scratch started in rave music, and now do traditional folk sound. But the crowd still go wild. Like it was a rave. Those were the days. You just can't do this stuff. In the post 2020 world (and The Scratch were just starting to break big at that time). People were body surfing around when they played 'Old Dog' song.
I only use my big boat recreationally at this point, except for a few charity tournaments. There isn't any hit on my truck gas mileage pulling my light kayak trailer, PLUS, I drop in anywhere on the lakes I want during the tournaments. The community of kayak tournament fishermen/women are just generally a whole lot less egotistical and 'puffed up' comapared to the KVD-wannabees in the bit boats.
@@kristinefischer2289 I put on a get together of local "tournament fishermen" here in Texas. They wanted to compete against each other and I told them it is supposed to be a relaxing day of fishing on a private lake. They complied and had a blast just relaxing and catching. The only rule I told them was keep tabs on how many you catch so I can see how many we did catch and release. Well with a dozen guys we tallied over 400 bass and they still didn't want to quit. I had to get them off the water at a certain time, which they reluctantly did, but were still casting from shore and landing fish.
I used to have a bass boat back in the day. Now i have a kayak and I got more fish on my kayak then I did on my bass boat. Never been a bass tournament before but since I got this kayak. Im gonna try it out on some tournaments this year.
Would love to hear how you prepare in advance of arrival to fish a lake. How do you break down lakes, lures, season etc.? Love the channel. Good video.
FYI I was the one asking you about the cost as far as what a top of the line fishing set up cost, and how hard it would be to compete at the big events, without a set up like yours. I completely understand it’s a process, and takes time to reach that level. Theirs a lot to be learned at the local level, where the rules limit you to equipment such as motors. Good luck next year, I look forward to following your success!
That’s a great question- for perspective, our angler of the year doesn’t use electronics. Last years Angler of the year fished out of a $1000 paddle kayak (drew Gregory) this years national champion and the guy who won $70k this year fished out of a $1200 Diablo paddle kayak - its easy to look at the fancy gear and kayaks and think you can’t compete - but it truly IS about your decision making and angling ability !
"With man this is not possible, but with God all things are possible". Awesome content my Beloved sister and fellow Angler in Christ Jesus. Sincerely "The Dayton Metro Smallmouth Slayer"🙏💙🔥💯💪👊🤺🙌👋🎣🐟.
You're amazing, and yes, I follow Greg Blanchard too... I consider both of you the Top 2 UA-cam kayak anglers currently creating content. I don't own a kayak, but do have a plastic Tiny Boat for pond hopping or lakes & rivers as well. I haul it on a modified jet sky trailer. Lol 🍺 🎣
@Kristine Fischer it's not only your's & Greg's fishing ability, but how you share your knowledge of fishing. Even on bad days, you share what you've learned and how we as anglers can benefit from bad days, too... the Grind is reel. Thank you 🍺🎣
Awesome video. Quick question: let's say someone wanted to be "semi competitive", this person would have all the gear they need. Do you have to fish all the tournaments in a given circuit to get a payout or could you just fish a few?
Love the Video! Thanks for the great information... This was my first year fishing and (obviously) kayak fishing... Wanted to try out the tournaments, but was hesitant... Truly appreciate the video and Appreciate you sharing your experiences. Thank you again!!
I know what you are saying there. I have that accessory, works great, I have the battery setup , for fish finder, etc. do you use the autopole set up or is making a fiberglass pole and figure a way to mount just as useful? or is there a particular net that is not crazy awkward to use? I living Douglas Ma and am wonder the process of kayak tournament fishing. I bought my 2013 PA14 used in July and so far so good wish it had at least a 180 drive but still this std drive is a game changer. I love it . I am always keeping my eyes open for used drives or somehow to upgrade what I have. I am looking at retiring in a year or so; which means I can fish more so I thought this maybe a good way to do that. So any lite you may shed on this beyond the video that would be helpful like do you have to qualify and if so how does one do that? I am an advid follower of your channel my compliment to you Well done. Your family should be very proud.
Dang Kristine, don't let the secrets out!! This year is my first year fishing 2 big trails. I am taking a big leave of absence from work for a few months to travel the country and fish almost all the BOS's and some All Americans and a couple KBFs. I have only been kayak fishing for a few years, I've only been fishing seriously for 3-4 years altogether; and I've only fished tourneys this year...I fished a kentucky series and I learned a whole lot and made a couple top 10's. I want to get better and fish against the best and learn the lakes...thats the only way I will be able to be competitive. I want to meet people, make connections and and really get into it. I have no kids, I'm not married, and Im hoping to make connections and meet people and get some sponsors eventually and either get a job in the industry or be able to fish full time. Great vid though, very interesting and informative.
oh we do have some real expenses.....im getting a motor for my pro angler for practice and trails that allow it......its $1000; then a lithium battery thats big enough to last several days is over $500... then it seems everyone is getting livescopes; im not yet, but my garmin side imaging was like $900.....But it's still nowhere near what a bass boat costs, so I guess it's really not that much.
Just a question, how do you record the fish for tournaments. I know you have a board you measure on, so you take a pic of fish on the board and send that back to whoever? And yes I would be interested in learning more about these tournaments. Thanks!
Hi Kristine, I've enjoyed following you, "G", Matt and Joseph. I'm looking hard at getting that Live scope transducer mount. I believe they called it the "Fischer mount"? Hopefully get a chance to meet up again at one of the events next year! The Mash aka cookie man.
Can’t wait to see your new kayak. You have been a big inspiration for this 64 year old woman who loves to kayak fish!! I watch all of your videos and think your analysis and content is great. Congrats on a wonderful year and good luck for 2022!
I appreciate your video and totally respect all you've accomplished (true pro!) and how you are such a great ambassador you are for our sport. I also compete on a more local and regional level (MA/Northeast) but it is more of a hobby for me. That said, I do think you are leaving a huge amount of information off of your analysis. One thing I know to be true from my experience is that aside from time on the water to hone your craft, the top anglers all have kayak and electronic set ups that are very expensive (thousand$ without sponsorships) that do put you all (the top 30-50 competitors) at a serious competitive advantage. I do encourage all to try kayak tournament fishing but to be careful to temper your expectations and to also be sure to track all your expenses. There is much more to it than was laid out in this simple video.
Actually going to have to put this out there, and I said it on a previous comment. Our Angler of the year this year doesn’t own any electronics. The guy in the video that won 70k this year fishes a $1000 paddle kayak and has a basic graph. The angler of the year last year used no graph and fishes from a $1000 crescent kayak. Folks can argue and say better boats and more electronics will win you more- but the proof is out there. Talent instinct and ability and decision making win tournaments
@@kristinefischer2289 totally true for sure. Absolutely - talent and skill is almost important - thus my comment about time in the water. In my experience, most of the best competitors have both and it does help a ton, especially live scope and such. I saw your video on your new rig and it’s quite sweet. I’m sure you will do even better this next year. Budgeting for gear, lures, food and other expenses also all contribute to the cost of competing which is something to take into account. And in my experience, the majority of the top 10-15 guys in every tourney do have both the skills and gear that stands above the rest.
Good to see that there is money to be made. Just did my first tournament this past weekend. I do it for fun and competition. I work full time. Lots of good Anglers. The chances of being good and consistently winning money is not easy. Don't do it for money. It's just like any other sport. Why not do bowling? You only need a few bowling balls and some shoes. What about playing pool. I mean unless you are really good, why not. And those are the top Anglers that made those money. What are the chances of most ppl beating them. Not practical for the normal person like any other sport.
I just got my first pedal drive kayak. I'm hoping it helps me out on lakes. At the river, I can paddle all day. Once I hit that lake, things change. I have to travel so far, and paddling just gets frustrating. I fish with QCKBF. 💪 I purchased a Native Titan 12 yesterday.
I have some questions, I am a disabled vet my balance isnt the best due to a plate in my head.can you use out rigs on the kayaks, and do you think with a big kayak would be stable enough for me.
Don't forget you can also make some okay money in your local and regional tournaments. I grossed about $900 this year doing this (not to mention additional sponsorship prizes). It always fun to go out and compete win or lose though.
Oh absolutely! I think I said that in the vid? Local grassroots tourneys provide GREAT opportunity and are close to home cutting back on expenses! I just didnt have a way to track those earnings
Lots of great information here. Appreciate you breaking it down. After 30 years of bank fishing I’m making the jump to a kayak, and would love to test my mettle in a local tournament. Good luck to you going forward.
Thanks for the info. I’ve been wandering what kind of money was out there to be had. Would love to be able to do it but better keep my day job. Preaching has different rewards. God bless!
Great info. I fish local tournament in MN and our entry fee is between $40-80 . This year I made alittle over $1k which is not bad .I fish in 8 tournament this year and I pretty much made my money back . I do want to explore out of MN but only thing is job schedule
@@kristinefischer2289 thanks. Your video help me alot. To never give up! Got 2 tournament win really help me make my money back which cover all my entry fee
Great idea for a video Kristine. It gives us a better perspective of where we are in the income potential of our sport. Sponsors and local trails only add to that and it will only get better. So fun!
I am going to get into van life and I will be bringing my yak with me. You make it pretty tempting to follow the circuit as I am a pretty good angler myself. I kinda live a little vicariously through you as you are a believer who lets their feelings show…good and bad! LOL Gotta luv it ya’all!
Could you break down how much tackle you use in a tournament weekend. With the MSRP of tackle since most of us would have to restock out of pocket or hopefully tournament winnings.
Sure can! One thing I've learned is to STICK with what works for me.. not buy fringe colors, or baits I dont have confidence in. Thats been HUGE.. You can keep it so simple and make a little go a long ways.
I will be fishing the Kissimmee trail in January. It will be my first trail series tournament. Little nervous fishing in a completely new body of water other than Illinois lakes. I’ve been doing some research on what works in these chain of lakes. I did find Airbnb in the upper part of lake Toho. I will only get one day of practice and I’m just going to hope for the best I guess…. Thanks for great content!
Love this video. Total transparency about what it costs and pays if you place. I'm a big fan and long time subscriber of your channel here @Kristine Fischer I hope someday I can become the skilled angler you already are. Your awesome
Kristine,Nice to see Anglers build their own rods. Mudhole, Jannsnetcraft,St Croix blanks are the best. Catching fish on your own build is Fun. God Bless
I loved this video..honestly all of them..lol. I fished small tourneys for years. I wish there had been this type of format when I was fishing them but that was eons ago. Im so happy for you to make a living at something that you love doing. Good luck next season and yes...keep the videos coming.😉
No it sure doesn't - There are ways to do it inexpensively, as I mentioned, splitting an air bnb 9 or 10 ways which is usually what I do. The last three years, I have averaged over 20k in tournament winnings, and my expenses for tournaments havent been over 15. However, as I stated, it is almost impossible to make a living soley off of tournament winnings. Sponsors and side hustles are key! However, if you can make enough to offset your expenses, I say thats a win!
Sold my boats and went to kayaks...never looked back...pedal or paddle thats it for me...built my own small trailer to carry kayaks. I get much more exercise and save a ton of money fishing!!! Tight lines!!!!
I found KBF ambassador membership is a great way to get started. Last year it was only $25 for a year membership and about $40 per state challenges. And you can fish on your schedule. Just kind of gets your feet wet in the sport. But here in Upstate SC the sport hasn't really got going has far as grassroot clubs. Thank you so much great vid. Go luck with next season
For those looking to get off the bank and onto the water, kayak fishing is a great way to change everything about the way you fish. As a disabled veteran angler, I love being able to get in a kayak and move around since I can't really walk along the banks like I could as a kid. Plus you have all kinds of charity tournaments and events like Heroes on the Water, The Fallen Outdoors to raise awareness and money for our veteran community. The GREAT thing about KBF tournaments is... you don't have to be a pro! ANYONE can get started and it's fun and easy to learn! Just start out with the State Challenges until you get the hang of it.
A few of the top guys have some sponsors - Not sure what they pay most keep that business side private, but I’d be willing to bet it’s enough to cover all entry fees and a good portion of travel !
Thank you for making this vid it certainly help me.
Very informative, just like all your videos. I love watching your videos, because you explain what you are doing to catch fish while you are trying to win s tournament.

The fantasy kayak fishing is great! I was blown away looking at these stats! Awesome video, Kristine!
Thanks C reed! I loved seeing how we all did earnings wise this year!
Thanks for the video. I may join the gang next year, at least on the KBF side.
You should!
Really enjoyed this video.. definitely would like more videos on things like this
Would love to hear how you prepare in advance of arrival to fish a lake. How do you break down lakes, lures, season etc.? Love the channel. Good video.
I actually like these types videos just as much, maybe more than the fishing videos, thank you for doing this.
Love this! Keep cranking out and sharing the love and passion you have for the sport and this community will continue to grow!
Thanks so much!!
"With man this is not possible, but with God all things are possible". Awesome content my Beloved sister and fellow Angler in Christ Jesus. Sincerely "The Dayton Metro Smallmouth Slayer"🙏💙🔥💯💪👊🤺🙌👋🎣🐟.
Thanks a ton
You're amazing, and yes, I follow Greg Blanchard too... I consider both of you the Top 2 UA-cam kayak anglers currently creating content. I don't own a kayak, but do have a plastic Tiny Boat for pond hopping or lakes & rivers as well. I haul it on a modified jet sky trailer. Lol 🍺 🎣
Greg is amazing!! Thank you!!
@Kristine Fischer it's not only your's & Greg's fishing ability, but how you share your knowledge of fishing. Even on bad days, you share what you've learned and how we as anglers can benefit from bad days, too... the Grind is reel. Thank you 🍺🎣
Would love to see a video on necessary accessories and other accessories that you think are great.
Coming soon!
Keep pushin content, we are lovin it
Appreciate ya!
Awesome video. Quick question: let's say someone wanted to be "semi competitive", this person would have all the gear they need. Do you have to fish all the tournaments in a given circuit to get a payout or could you just fish a few?
Next year I want to see this video again with you at the top. Go girl !!!
Love the Video! Thanks for the great information...
This was my first year fishing and (obviously) kayak fishing... Wanted to try out the tournaments, but was hesitant...
Truly appreciate the video and Appreciate you sharing your experiences.
Thank you again!!
I think it would be cool to see how much can be made from outside of tournament winnings, like sponsorships, products, UA-cam, etc.
More information please. The struggle is real for someone like me just getting started and signing up. Feels like information overload
Thanks!
Yes! Catch photo release
Yes! the link is in the bio to this video! They sell it at Dugout bait and tackle!
That’s if said tourney actually pays the angler.
That’s a very crucial part of the puzzle yes
Just seen you on meat eaters das boat!! Haha just wanted to get on here to say that.
Can’t wait to see your new kayak. You have been a big inspiration for this 64 year old woman who loves to kayak fish!! I watch all of your videos and think your analysis and content is great. Congrats on a wonderful year and good luck for 2022!
Wow, thank you!
I’m interested where do I sign up for the league?
LOVE QC~ thats a great club
@@kristinefischer2289 you know it! Vinny is the man!
@@kristinefischer2289 Oh yeah, definitely. Just reiterating a good point. It's fun to see the sport growing so rapidly.
There you are
Lots of great information here. Appreciate you breaking it down. After 30 years of bank fishing I’m making the jump to a kayak, and would love to test my mettle in a local tournament.
Good luck to you going forward.
🙌🙌 that’s great to hear!! Wishing you the best of luck and hope you love it!
Thanks for the info. I’ve been wandering what kind of money was out there to be had. Would love to be able to do it but better keep my day job. Preaching has different rewards. God bless!
Do you sponsors help out with entry fees and other must have fees
Great info. I fish local tournament in MN and our entry fee is between $40-80 . This year I made alittle over $1k which is not bad .I fish in 8 tournament this year and I pretty much made my money back . I do want to explore out of MN but only thing is job schedule
If you’re able to win enough to get your money back that is a WIN!
@@kristinefischer2289 thanks. Your video help me alot. To never give up! Got 2 tournament win really help me make my money back which cover all my entry fee
I want to get into kayak fishing tournaments so bad!
I wish I could win a Hobie kayak so I can also fish and protect the lakes, rivers and the ocean. I wish I could complete my dream
Great info/ breakdown. Answered a lot of questions I’ve had moving forward with my own path into kayak tournaments
🙌 glad to hear it!
I would tell you this after this video some fellow will make the change
Do you have another job or are you a full time fisherlady?
Full time fishing
@@kristinefischer2289 that's the life!
I’ll be there too! My first year fishing it was last year, such a fun lake with the chance at hooking an absolute giant!
Love this video. Total transparency about what it costs and pays if you place. I'm a big fan and long time subscriber of your channel here @Kristine Fischer
I hope someday I can become the skilled angler you already are. Your awesome
That means alot! Thank you!!
Kristine,Nice to see Anglers build their own rods. Mudhole, Jannsnetcraft,St Croix blanks are the best. Catching fish on your own build is Fun. God Bless
couldnt agree more!!
I loved this video..honestly all of them..lol. I fished small tourneys for years. I wish there had been this type of format when I was fishing them but that was eons ago. Im so happy for you to make a living at something that you love doing. Good luck next season and yes...keep the videos coming.😉
Glad you enjoyed it!
This also doesn't count hours, motel costs, gas, upgrades to equipment, etc. So how much would you say you put out vs getting back?
Thanks, Kristine!! Do sponsors pay the upper-level anglers, and if so what range can people make?
A few of the top guys have some sponsors - Not sure what they pay most keep that business side private, but I’d be willing to bet it’s enough to cover all entry fees and a good portion of travel !
Would love more about the Kayak tourney world, can't wait to see your new kayak on the water and how your new set does. Thank you for the vids!
You got it!
