    It is called Onde-Onde in Indonesia, one of my favorite snack. We also have our traditional “rainbow cake” called Kue Lapis, it’s colorful and I believe you can make it look very pretty.

    this snack is popular Indonesia, people name it "onde-onde" with mung bean paste for filling. Glad to know that neigbouring countries have similar snacks in common. Yumm!

    These are called "Buchi" in my country, the Philippines. The fillings here are usually red bean paste or ube (purple yam) halaya. I love seeing similar foods from other countries!

    Thank you Nino for this recipe! This food usually called 'Onde-onde' in Indonesia. It's filled with steamed mung beans and the outside covered with sesame. It tastes savory on the outside, sweet in the inside, and crunchy.

    I remember eating these when I was growing up in Hong Kong except it used red bean paste instead from what I can recall. I think the fillings are different based on each local ingredients availability and taste. But I am sure they are all delicious.

      I ate them growing up in Canada! I would usually go to Hong Kong bakeries to get them either red bean paste or lotus seed paste. Sooo good!

    In the Philippines we call this buchi. Mostly in the afternoon or any family gatherings, this is served (at least in my family 😅) The cheese filled one is my favorite, though, ube (a sweet purple yam fro, the Philippines) is also good. It's best to eat it warm 💜💜

    In Vietnamese this is called “Bánh cam” which literally translate to “orange cake” it is usually a deep fried ball coated with sesame seeds and has filling of smashed green beans or sometimes it even has taro or meat filling (i don’t know if anybody knows about the taro and meat filling cause, i know, it is EXTREMELY bizarre for me)

    Its almost like "Onde-Onde" in indonesia, the different is on inside. Onde-Onde on inside is sweet peanut, yellow thing (i think from Kacang Hijau / Green peanut (?) ) {Google Translate, i forgot name in english}. Its very tasty and yummy.     I had them as a child and I am super glad that your video showed up. I have to try doing them!
    They followed me through my childhood since I loved them so much. But then the local chinese store closed down and I never had or saw them since.

    Try it !! I tried with a few recipes and this was definitely the best one! I used 90g instead of 100g and was great! I always use a little less flour because mine cracks a lot when I’m shaping them. Hope this helps! Ty for the recipe!

    in the Philippines, this is similar to Buchi which is glutinous rice stuffed with a sweet bean filling, rolled in sesame seeds, and fried golden brown. It's originally from China but it's really yummy and popular here!

    Malaysian version known as 'Kuih Bom' but the filling we used made from Red Bean paste or blended peanut with sugar. But it's chewy not crunchy.

    As an Indian I would suggest using clarified butter aka ghee instead of cooking oil. It would taste heavenly. In India almost all sweet dishes in India are incomplete without clarified butter aka ghee😋

      The flour needs to be chewy and stretchy like mochi so looks like you cannot substitute with wheat flour

    oh my god that crisp tho, the ones in my home country usually have the outer skin texture of a stale bread or sometimes even chewy, those crispy sound alone made the ones you cooked a luxurious, fancy snack
