Todd Rundgren is a musical genius. Pioneer in layering tracks. Many of his songs are only him- playing all instruments and vocals, then layering them. The chord progressions of this song and the harmonies are pure musical perfection. Always brings my mind to a happy place!

This guy is an astonishing producer: the fabulous percussion, the piano that really moves it all along, the great lead and backing vocals, that lilting guitar motif are just some of the components that make this song jump off the turntable. Overnight, he made Spector's wall of sound passé. Plus, Todd never shot anyone.
Without question one of the most beautiful pop songs of all time. Todd wrote some stellar songs in the early 70s that are impossible to forget. This song totally mesmerised a sickly, malnourished little 8 year old back in 1972. A beautiful song. It had plenty of airplay in the uk around summer of ‘72. With a slight tweak or two, it could have been one of the biggest hits of the 70’s.
It's the clarity of the voice and the clear melody and mix of the song; it's meant to be that way; we all know what that is, and if you don't, you weren't meant to............

I ended up being on one his album covers….early 70s in Central Park of course. Very serendipitous as I was just ‘cutting’ through the park early afternoon, they had just arrived & he wanted to take pictures & asked me to walk by the stage. Asked me to come back & sing w/them around 7 - thought he was kidding. But I was on the album!🎶🙏🎶
His best overall record? Maybe. A masterpiece of DIY ingenuity. Definitely. All the great songs are here, and his singing has a warmth to it that separates it from the earlier records.
I absolutely love this song. The melody, the lyrics, the percussion ( the ping of the ride cymbal bell and the triangle) . Every time I hear it , it fills me with euphoria. Masterpiece. Pop magic.

Todd was an unknown then.
@@steffanhoffmann8937 EARLY SEDAKA? Are you for real? It sounds nothing like Sedaka 60s or 70s.
@@steffanhoffmann8937 ???? Sedaka was undergoing a career revival at this point in time, his career was hotter than at any point since 1962 and he was writing one classic after another in the early 70s. You seem to have a real downer on Sedaka for some reason.
All very well said.
Poignant tune and lyrics.
Haunting and timeless.
A beautiful song. It had plenty of airplay in the uk around summer of ‘72.
With a slight tweak or two, it could have been one of the biggest hits of the 70’s.
This songs melody was stuck in my head for 10 years. It was driving me crazy that I couldnt find it. I have finally found it, I can rest easy.
my favorite Tod Rundgren song. best most beautiful of all of his songs, in my opinion.
It's the clarity of the voice and the clear melody and mix of the song; it's meant to be that way; we all know what that is, and if you don't, you weren't meant to............
Love love love this song, reminds me of the night I met my first love, although nothing ever happened between us and as the song says, “he kept running..” will always love him though
Ojk OZARK brought me here but what a surprise to find such gem on a current TV seiries soundtrack! Imortal song!
I spent my 8th grade spring break at my maiden great aunt's in rural East Texas when I first heard this.We were going somewhere when it came on the radio. My aunt and I both liked it.Todd Rundgren is extremely underrated.
Todd makes me cry every time I hear this song. I was so in Love at 27 and I am still in Love with him❤️
Best song ever written that evokes more emotion than emotion itself. Thanks Todd!
One of my favorite songs, the lyrics are simple, but really hit the point. It is very well sung and played too.
This brings back such memories of a future to look forward to - mountains to conquer - the world to explore - to dare ❤
Reminds me of my sister, she had this record, plus some other great stuff, she used to drive me to school, so I got to listen to some great music.
Very uplifting and nostalgic hearing this bringing back better days.... 😢
Great Song! Jesus Loves You My Dear Friends! God Bless You Always! John 3:16
When Music was music !!!!!!
Exactly
Todd has had master level songwriting and composition skills from birth.
God i love this song. Just something about it. I wore this awesome double album out in 72. Todds crowning achievement.
One of several. Many crowning achievements!!
Can't add to the wonderful comments other to say this song has touched my heart for the last 50 years!
His best overall record? Maybe. A masterpiece of DIY ingenuity. Definitely. All the great songs are here, and his singing has a warmth to it that separates it from the earlier records.
Nice review!
@@toddfan3263 unfortunately he didn't make it :(
@@tom-ht3ju We don't know that Tom. They haven't chosen who gets in for 2021 yet.
@@toddfan3263 oh snap! i didn't realise
@@tom-ht3ju No problem. So vote, vote,vote! :)
Tune!!!
I was 5 years old when this song was released in 1972 and remember it was played very often on various radio stations
Me too 😊
Thank you Ozark for showing me this song.
Thanks Ozark for bring me here, awesome song.
I absolutely love this song. The melody, the lyrics, the percussion ( the ping of the ride cymbal bell and the triangle) . Every time I hear it , it fills me with euphoria. Masterpiece. Pop magic.
