Nope. He is the best. Straight up.

My sympathy. Hope you have friends & family near. Take care.
I'm sorry.
Thinking of you. This song is special and I'm sure your wife was too, if it meant a lot to her. It is one of my favorites of all time also.
Very sorry for your loss, James. God bless, and if this song gives you comfort, so much the better.
When George Harrison is the third song writer in your band, you know your band is good. This song never gets old.
Some people would disagree that he was the third best songwriter
Who said he's the third best, I think it was a 3 way tie..... My Sweet Lord is a top 10 for me and I'm a young 61.
@@pattyhaley2949 when I think of my favorite Beatles songs, George wrote many of them. Within you without you...Here comes the sun....Something
@@alexkagman, the stats clearly show that he was. No shame in that, he was brilliant
@@pattyhaley2949 To be fair, the op wrote "third", not "third best". "Third" can just as easily refer to quantity, and in that respect it's a fact that George was third.
Something mesmerising about girl in yellow.. she not a super model yet something about her portrays true beauty like I’ve never seen before ❤
Perhaps the confidence of a dancer…
People care too much for static looks, they imitate lifeless statues in photographs. She is moving - and skilled so - which I find to be more attractive than posturing
@@nancyfarrington610 no not really, I think it’s her inner beauty, her spirit, her inner soul is reflected as someone in my comments pointed out
She's got that "(Pretty) Girl Next Door" look.

About the video . . . George Harrison's widow and son, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, held an online competition in which filmmakers were invited to create a video clip for "What Is Life". The winner would receive a $5000 cash prize and have their entry become the official video for the track, appearing on the George Harrison UA-cam channel and other media platforms. In November, Olivia and Dhani selected Brandon Moore of Oakland, California, as the winner. George was a wise man. He was independent and had a mind of his own. That allowed him to write and sing such good tunes, like this one. Here Come The Sun will not be matched.
So many people see The Beatles as John and Paul, but he had such a profound influence on that band. Most of my favorite Beatles songs are actually the ones that he wrote. Just an amazing, amazing human being.

Fucking crazy 🎉
I get the art of the video. Youth wonders about the meaning of life as independence is gained (symbolized by the girl leaving home). Leaving the playground behind she ponders death in the cemetery and celebrates (not fears) its inevitable rapture. Then the inexplicable chemistry erupts as she encounters love. This is true to George Harrison's spirituality.
Spot on.
That is a great take on the video. The song could have been a Beatles song (instead of a solo effort), as GH wrote it while still in the Beatles! Shame it was ignored by McCartney and Lennon
Very thoughtful interpretation!
You're a fuckin dumb ass
Oh, the good old over-interpretation
Of all the Beatle's works .. why is this particular song so impactful? Thank you George Harrison.
It's a masterful composition and infectious beautiful melody
It's a solo hit isn't it? We're any of the other Beatles involved with this song?

Truly a random pick for me! lol One of my fav George Harrison songs. The bigger surprise is there was a "MV" for this made in 2016. Just saw it was a fanmade winner. Such an off the wall video....
George Harrison's was the only celebrity whose death that I really felt personally . He deserved to live a long life. I'd heard he was ill and a couple days later I got up to go work and they were playing this song on AM talk radio and I knew immediately he'd gone . I decided to blow off work and just drove through the countryside listening to George's music
I felt Lennon's more myself. Also Leary's & Terence McKenna's as well but i loved George's songs like 'Within You Without' You the most :)
i Hear ya.This is unrelated to George but similar to your feelings. I live in QLD Australia, and first I heard at work that Steve Irwin had died, and then shortly after, I was at work and heard Peter Brock died, I just walked out. Twas devasting.
The best person, a truly gentle, hall of fame soul!
I feel kinda lucky because i born after George's death. Actually this is worse but...
At least i didn't hear it the day he died.
My condolences.
I still can't believe this man had a great impact for the independence for my country
There are many number 2 musicians that deserve to be number 1. George is one of 'em
This really is a great album.
Beatles fans keep bitching about Yoko breaking up the band. .Sure, it may have been a factor.
Actually, the band was doomed, anyway: George found it tiring--merely playing rhythm guitar for John and Paul.
Unfortunately, George closed up--after John's murder
Just imagine the tours he may have had:: Those with Dave Mason, Eric Clapton, Dylan, Lynne, Petty, Orbison, Frampton--many other legends likely would have shown up, too!
Who knows?!: It would have blown everything else out of the water!
He is a number one musician. It does not matter what other people say!!!!!!!!!!!
Getting stabbed didn't help.
@@GeoffreyMorrison-xh2eo I believe he played lead guitar. John played rhythm.
This song is fifty years old and timeless.
And Simon Cowell had nothing to do with it which is why it's so fabulous.
I copied the lyrics (all credit given) onto a paper, put the paper under the windshield wiper of "her" car and asked her to marry me that night. 25 years and two kids later she told me, "It just didn't work out" (I looked at her with an look of incredulity and said, "WHAT? Were we on a 25 year DATE?!") Regardless, should I ever meet a new "her", I'll do the same ... I LOVE this song as the words are the greatest expression of love I can imagine.

Agreed.
Lots of symbolism in this video - Leaving home for the first time (shrouded by fog), being off balance and wondering which direction to go (middle of the street on the double yellow lines), forming an open box on her heart, letting go of our childish ways (playground), growing in the sunshine (the garden), dancing even though we are surrounded by death (running pirouette through cemetery), first love then lit by sunlight (forbidden forest), both are wearing yellow and white tops (Yellow is the symbolic meaning of optimism, idealism and hope. White is purity), etc. etc. etc. - WOW!
That's a lot to unpack!
Glad you typed this out: the symbolism seems to be lost on so many of the muppets who negatively comment on this video. They either think she's not a good dancer and/or sexually obsess over her looks
Or maybe in light of what is happening now - Empty playground ( children locked up ) Hand over face and outstretched arm ( mask and keep back ). Empty allotments and falling on autumn leaves ( lack of food and death ) Dancing in front of lines of gravestones ( mass extermination and dancing on our graves ) ! Or maybe I’m just paranoid .
Your insight is greatly appreciated. I was blinded by her beauty and didn't notice. Very interesting though.

Yes, she is gorgeous and I love George’s music.
Twin pillars of freemasonry at the start ? Lots of symbolism and just as many ways to interpret it, depends on where you are coming from really.

Since George was always kept in the background while a Beatle, once they went on their own I believe that George was the best song writer of the bunch. His songs are spiritual and magic; I can listen to them over and over and love them more each time.
I listen this song over and over. Cant help it.
By his own admission, he never had a writing partner and got a late start but in my view, he was responsible for such high quality music and lyrics he eclipsed Lennon/McCartney. What a loss to lose him.

Esher Demos are the proof. He's my favorite.
Everyone should watch The Beatles: Get Back. It's probably a masterpiece. It details how talented the individual members of the Beatles were - George included, even as the youngest. Yoko Ono didn't break up the Beatles. They broke up because they all had too much creative energy to be contained in one band. Especially after 10 years of ridiculous success.

Don't really want to know what life here is, when wake up and seeing you're still in the last phase of going through a black glistening moving blob that dissipates. It doesn't seem like in the room, just in front of my eyes, obviously in my mind.
Is it just me or does this song sound very ahead of its time.
It does
Maybe the video helps making that impression.
Nah, it DOES. I had totally forgotten when it came out, went to look it up and just about fell over: NINETEEN SEVENTY/SEVENTY ONE!!!!! Holy cow. Yea... sounds like it could have been released today.

@@cinnamonlizard4304 Please explain what you mean?
I like the idea of making new videos of songs that never had a real video before....if not just for the audio quality......also , I love the fact that young people are enjoying a classic song!
bronco devil This. I've heard a fair share of George Harrison's work before, but this video brought this song back on my mind and I gave me something new to share with people who didn't know his songs well.
bronco devil they arent, they're just going with the flow...fucking sheep-fish people
It's a new song but an instant classic none the less.
AndyAnimal it's more than forty years old
November 29, 2016 was a bit less than 40 years ago. Try again.
George Harrison the first exbeatle who was number one... All Things Must Past !!!
*Pass
This song reminds me of my mother. This one goes out to all the mothers who raised their children with music. We thought we were rich.🎼🎵🎶🤘
You were, and are when correctly understood.
I don't care about anyone's opinion.
I REALLY liked this.
Bitches love sticks fuck u
Yass someone from the phandom who likes George Harrison
Read above: The gurl is 25.
Oh hell yeah. the song, George tapped into Keith Richards opening riff thing. And the dancer, she's just fantastic
Nobody cares about your opinion either
I always said George is the most underrated Beatle. His songs are magic!
Underrated not
@@npant14 I'll second that. Why do people forever make that ridiculous statement about famous people, there was nothing underrated about George Harrison.
@@shamteal8614 Because ppl seem to forget about him. Also there were only 2 Beatles talked about all the time. I get it that George choose not to be in te lights like them.
Also it might be that a lot of ppl are not realizing that they have heard songs of him, without knowing it was his song.
@@RLHvanDijk I take on board what you are saying but still think it's a silly statement. When one thinks of the Beatles one thinks of them as a group.
He did some very wonderful songs. And I always had the vibe that he was the most intelligent Beatle.
I followed George for 40 years . I think he'd like this.
This song was on the radio when we had a humongous blizzard in 1971!
i am physically disabled by a car accident 18 years ago since then, music is my support, thanks :-)
Awwww. I hope you're okay.

They contest winner who choreographed this video got the idea from Chandelier (Sia).
Yup! Get cute super-talented girl to do some fun performance-art dancing in your video, but keep yourself out of it. Yeah... it's Sia ♥
Chandelier came out 10 years ago and this music video came out 7 years ago.
@@drewidrie2396 Yes the song was released in 1970, but I'm assuming the original commenter is referring to the video.
@@drewidrie2396 yeah you're just screwing with me now.
@@drewidrie2396 I don't think you understand my point. You're implying that Sia's 2014 music video was inspired by this music video (the video not the song) that was released in 2018. Does that make sense?
That's how videos should be happy and innocent
Not quite so sure about the "innocent" but certainly not gratuitous.
Definitely not innocent. Do your research.
Yeah this is a great video for a great song.

I'm a sixty year old man and I cry every time I watch this
I know how you feel. I'm a sixty-one-year-old man and experience the same thing watching this. Take care, my brother.
I am 66 (as we're on the subject!) and well remember what George's music meant to me when I was a youngster. Beatles' numbers always recall the top deck of the school bus and the girls from the girls' grammar. Ah, the memories! At the time, here in the UK, this track -- and also George's _If Not For You_ -- seemed to be interpreted more often by Olivia Newton John than by the writer himself. She did a good job with them, I think.
Very emotional song, beautiful words of love
Im a 58 year old lady. it makes me cry too. just to be able to run and jump and be young and healthy would mean so much.
I am 59, and seeing these young people dance to George Harrison's music warms my heart. I saw Mr. Harrison sing this song in 1974. A very fond memory. Can you beat George Harrison, Billy Preston and Ravi Shankar for a first concert?
The man really was a musical genius. He left us too soon but we were lucky to have him for the time we did. He helped shape rock n roll & it has enhanced all our lives greatly
George was the eternal optimist. Thanks for the hope.
It is rumored and probably true that George received Jesus Christ before he passed away . If so He has a perfect eternal life now .
““The dancer really expressed unbounded joy, and managed to capture the spirit of “What is Life” through movement, which the director captured beautifully.” ~ Olivia and Dhani Harrison
Looked like a mixture of Patti Harrison and Maureen Starkey lol
A great scouser.
She really did do a wonderful job dancing!
My thoughts too, Karen. 👍
it is hard to believe that she is 60+ years old now!!!!
This is music. When George could not write with Lennon and McCartney, he wrote with Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. Need I say more?
What a beautiful person .
Several "The Beatles" songs written by George:
Here Comes the Sun
Something
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I Want to Tell You
I Me Mine
Taxman
Within You Without You
Interesting. Remember the song, "We Are The World?" Every time I hear Dylan in that, I'm thinking, "Bob... those kids just aren't that hungry."
And then played around with Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison.

Too bad George couldn't have seen this. He would've loved it. I've listened to the song when George was alive, but it sounds better watching this video. What'd this video cost? $100 dollars, if that, and 30 million views? Bwahaha.
Yes , who is this gorgeous black haired beauty ?

In his voice i simply hear The Beatles as a whole band, it's like they never separated.
He's like Adrock. Vital to the sound.
This could have been a Beatles song, just like "Junk" & "Maybe I'm Amazed" on Macca's 1970 album. They just split before anything happened to the songs and released them on their own albums. That's why a lot of the music the four released closely after the split sounds like it would be The Beatles music. Still composed in the Beatles spirit if you will.
there are few bands (but not that many) that no matter who singing it sounds like the group..
didn't matter who sang
it always sounded like the Beatles
The slight imperfections in the dancing somehow make it perfect.
That's just the purpose of the video, it's meant to be young and full of energy and free spirit
YES! Nowadays they would have done take after take and edited the crap out of it to get it perfect. But it IS perfect the way it is!
"True perfection has to be imperfect.. " NG
geofreyr My thoughts exactly!!!
I think they add to the attraction because it shows her to be human, like the rest of us.
I think she's a gifted dancer and the "imperfections" are deliberate.
I've never heard this song before until today but I like it. The dancers are really good.❤
WOW man This song is epic from early 70s...Glad you found it.
George was the one with all the talent. He was stifled by the world saying Lennon and McCartney were great. Well they weren't.
