Owner of 2022 sierra elevation 3.0 diesel. I did a loop 200 miles driving 60to 65 highway, 42.5mpg. I couldn’t believe it. Only problem emission regulations.
I have a 2024 ZR2 with 3.0L DuraMax turbo diesel with 10K. My average MPG over 10K is 21.7. I use for work in agriculture and it idles probably 30% of time. This is 35% better than my 2023 ZR2 with 6.2L and diesel is $0.40/gal cheaper than 93 octane.
Cool Video! I'm looking to get one of these trucks for the mileage. I currently have a 2017 5.0 F150---it's been a good truck, but the mpg isn't great after I leveled it and put ~34" Wildpeak AT4's on it a few years back. I do a lot of traveling for my kid's travel sports. Gas in CA is expensive, so looking to get better mpg. I do think I might miss the passing power / quickness of the 5.0 to pass all the sheeple that like to all drive right next do each other and clog up the freeway.--especially on our 2 lane freeways like the 5 or the 101. Sucks, because everyone sits in the fast lane to avoid all the big rigs. Passing power is crucial. I'm a pretty patient person, more than most people, but somehow that changes when you have to drive a long way. I don't make a habit of driving fast, but when we travel for sports, you gottta get 'er done! Most people are driving 80+ mph on the 5 it seems....On that bright side, owning the 3.0 might keep me from getting speeding tickets! Ha ha!
Thanks for the video. If you plan to keep the truck long-term I would recommend changing your oil like now. A channel here on UA-cam called the motor oil geek did some testing and shows during the break-in period your wear is very high.Personally I wouldn’t want that to be circulating through my engine especially if I was going to keep the truck long-term. Check his channel out for more details. Hopefully he convinces you
Not an MPG comment, but a question. Have you figured out how to have the dome lights come on when you open the doors? I look forward to seeing my mpg on an upcoming road trip.
You either need to press the button next the the lights above your head (master on/off switch) or in your preference settings on your dash it can be adjusted
Yeah, just generally speaking At4s get like 2mpg less. They are lifted 2” more than an elevation affecting aerodynamics and usually have all terrain tires vs street tires. Doesn’t mean you can’t still hit 30mpg but it’s a little tougher
The at4 seats are more firm than the elevation it seems. I did a 2,500 mile road trip and didn’t have a single issue with them. If seat comfort is your goal, check out the f150 too. They are much softer, but I don’t have an issue with mine
@@nikkicovack Not a main issue, just curious after hearing people talk about it. Heck, Im coming from a 2017 Tundra so pretty much anything is an upgrade. I have a 4500 lbs boat that I tow all summer, how does it handle the load? Again, not concerned about fuel economy on the tow as my 5.7 gets me 9 mpg when I tow.
Everyone getting excited about the mpg, but look up other videos where people are complaining about engine oil consumption! Gm says its fine amd just keep adding oil on a brand new truck......
I have the 2024 GMC sierra 1500 Denali ultimate with the Duramax and I only see about 25 to 27 on daily driving. I do live in the hills and drive mostly short 20 mile trips with a bunch of stops when i get to town. Its super hilly. but one I hit the freeway I get 29 to 31. I do drive a little fast (not going to post my speed) so I am sure if I drove closer to normal speed I would get a lot better. Love my truck as a daily driver compared to driving my ford F450 duelly as a daily. I do miss towing with my ford :( it was a beast at that.
Thank you for the video. I’m considering getting a baby duramax for my next truck and this review was helpful. Do you find it using a lot of DEF in your normal use (no towing)?
Great! I’m glad it helped, I’ve only added def once at 3,500 mi and there was still three bars left on the indicator. It barely uses it at least from my experience
@@nikkicovack I own a 3.0 Denali, I generally go 5-6k miles without refilling DEF. I don't tow, but sometimes it does regen more then other times. I think in the last 15k miles I've only gotten DEF 3-4 times.
They get good mpg, I still don’t think these trucks are a good deal / worth it at $60k plus to get 23+ mpg . Plus the payload is low on these at4 1500 trucks .
I might look into it after the next oil change & watch it. But for now, it’s out of sight out of mind, well under warranty for now if something does happen. I read the same things though about it running through oil quickly
Just picked up a new 2024 Duramax 1500 Elevation a few weeks ago and went on a 800 Km road trip and averaged 36 mpg. I only have 1100 km on truck now.
How does KM road trip relate to MPG? Just kidding, push the dash button stupid!
That mpg is super impressive. Pretty nuts a full size 4 wheel drive can average better mileage than my grandpa Avalon.
It is wild! Hope they keep getting better from here

It’s getting its first service as we speak!

You mentioned the AT4 2:15, do you think they get worse fuel economy than your Elevation?

I have a 2024 at4 and I am getting 22-24 mpg around town and my best tank on a vacation to the beach was 28 mpg.
@ I’m getting a little better than you. I get typically 25-28 and the best I’ve gotten is 30.2
How are the seats? I've heard issues with how uncomfortable they are.

I just brought a 2025 elevation it gives me about 31 mpg combined, best 41mpg

If that becomes a factor on mine I will share a video for sure. But for now all is well!
Usually associated with heavy towing.
Not after break in at 500 miles and Towing huge stuff
The real test of a vehicle is cost per mile. What does your truck cost per mile to operate??
I haven’t gotten that far. After a couple oil changes/ maintenance/def refills I will calculate it all up!

I have talked to a friend of mine at GM and they have tried to put the engine in a midsize, but it wont fit. :(
Bummer, but I’m glad they at least tried!!
Put the 3.0 in a full size van with 4x4 and they clean house on Ford and Mercedes.
Man the best I can get in my 24' zr2 3.0 is like 23ish highway :/
Zr2 is a bit higher with all terrain tires so it makes sense. I’ll do another mpg video after I add bigger tires to mine too and see

@@eeee3202 thank you for the info!
What rearend gearing?
I am not sure but it is the standard elevation x31 offroad package 4x4
$2.89 diesel!? Omg! 4.57 here....

Just depends what you need them for or what you want at the end of the day. I really enjoy this truck vs the other options in the price range
I was able to achieve 30.3 US MPG but that was at 62 mph. That truck turned out to be a lemon so I went back to the 5.3 gas
Bummer to hear but the 5.3 is a solid engine to go with too!
How's the oil consumption? I know there have been issues, but I was under the impression they fixed it about a year ago, going forward. Any insight?

$2.89 made my heart hurt
No kidding. Its $4.75 a gallon here at the "cheap" gas station here in Cacafornia 🤮
Come on down, we have plenty of room lol
The 2025 Sierra Denali gets 68 mpg combined city and highway. Just stay away from the GMC 1500's and your wallet will thank you.
You have it at distance of 25 miles. Set it to 450 miles
My average for 450 is 27.5 according to the computer
