Hey there, great question, we don't tend to use google keyword planner and instead just think about it and write down anything that comes to mind and narrow it down from there :)
You will get data slower, but you can definately start with a $10 a day budget. As long as it's all set up correctly if you spend money you will be put infront of people on UA-cam.

Great question! 5 or 6 is good, wiht your 30, create themes and them use those in multiple campaigns so you have 4 or so campaigns with 5 or 6 keywords in each one.

Great question! So thumbnails are important for when they're on the video feed, the pre roll ads don't need them but It's worth having a thumbnail on every ad so that theey look clickable as well :)

Hi, Do have any experience with creating an Ad for a UA-cam video and final URL the Video-self! One of my clients just need more views and in ideal condition more followers but mostly valuable complete views for the videos, and they do this method. Any recommendation of doing this in any better form? target ist CPV and, maximale awarness and visibility for campaign goal.
We've looked into this and tried it before, but if the outcome you're looking for is to grow your channel, then I would stick with just organically growing and relying on the UA-cam algorithm, rathen than paying. If you're not intereted in growth and just views then you could run ads to it if you wanted.

Hey Walker, great to have you over on UA-cam! You're right there is a lot of subjectivity, I would say that give it a week to at least give it a good test, the learning phase may be shorter but 1 week gives you a good amount of data to see where the bottle neck seems to be :)
Not a good idea if i'm honest, becuase now you're unsure which is working best keywords or URLs. If they are seperate you can clearly see which is the best and pause the other one to fosuc your ad spend on the campaign that's the most profitable.

When your account get disabled the best thing you can do is just go to the Google ads policy documents and see what comes under that reason for disabling, maybe it's language you used in your ad, or the landing page you're taking them to, or the topic of your ad. Worth just digging in and really making sure you understand those policies to find the problem :)
Great question, we tend to remove partners network yeah :) But there's no switch for that sadly if using target CPA or maximise conversions, instead you have to do it via exclusions
So we run a website that just referres customers to a sign-up page from our customer. So people visit our landingpage and click on the button "sign-up" and then the get referred to our customers sign-up page. So we can't put a tracking link on our customers page unfortunately. So is it possible to also track button clicks on our page? And how would we do that?
Hey Failure Taylor! Great question, yes that is something you can do, just when creating your conversion event you can select button clicks, you can see the point in which you would do this at 23:07 where it says CLICK rather than Page Load :) Hopefully that helps Taylor!

Hey Luis, so you would create a combined segment audience! If you run a campaign with two audiences it will go to them separately, whereas if you combine them in one audience then use that as your targeting, that will be better :) Really glad you enjoyed the video!

Hey Maximillian, I'm no expert at all in running ads to my UA-cam channel, we run UA-cam ads to our offers and sales funnels so it's very different. For me, by the sounds of it if the ads are bringing views but nothing else, then you may want to look at how you're structuring the content to get the other things you're looking for. But like I said, I'm not really sure as it's not something I'm an expert in.

Hey there, i'm really glad you've got value from my content and hope the continute to help you! If i'm honest, there's so much to know about running ads that I can't explain in a comment on UA-cam. If you're at a point where you've tried a lot by yourself, I think it would be a smart idea to find a coach who can help and show you. That could be anyone, could be my team or could be another fantastic advertising mentor, as long as you get the result you're looking for and have someone to guide you :)
You need to have so many placements to make a campaign worth it, so we found if you just choose a video to run on then it never does very well. You have to have 500 or more placements in a campaign to really make it worth it and even then it still underperforms compared to our other strategies. On paper it seems like an amazing option but currently it's not as profitable or worth it for us.
I have a question about locations! I'm targeting military, whom travel the world for work but theyre US citizens. Do my ads need to be for USA or world wide, for them to see it wherever they are at the moment?
In a traffic campaign, I can't deselect the Google Display Network option. If I purely want to run skippable YT ads, is this a problem? Or do you have positive experience with leaving the GDN on? Great tutorial btw, thanks!
Hey Jon. I ran a weight loss campaign. Google showed Eligible (Limited). The policy also states the same for weight loss niche. Then how come you are able to run weight loss campaigns? What are your thoughts on this jon?
You just have to be very aware of the google ad policies and then make sure your wording in the ads is in line with it. Sometimes it means not being too direct but still obvious to those who are your target audience. For example, in the medical niche you can't call out people struggling with certain illnesses or diseases, but you can talk about the symptons of those as to make it very obvious what you're tlaking about without directly saying it.
So CPA is a number to say 'I'm happy to sepnd up to this for a conversion' Now that doesn't mean that is what you will pay, more often than not it's way below that, but you're just giving UA-cam a number to show you're serious and a guideline to work within. If for some reason you were then spending $35 for a conversion and your budget was set to $5 a day, if you do the math that means you would be running your ads for 7 days before you got a conversion (but as I said, that is very unlikely)

Glad you enjoyed the video Eman! So it's definitely something we're interested in, in fact we may be testing it very soon. If you're in the early stages of your business though I would focus on revenue generating ad spend, so taking someone through a funnel, rather than just growing your channel which is far less predictable. Unless you already have a following and you know your numbers for converting your audience into customers in which case it's something worth looking in to :)
@@JonPenberthy thanks Jon! I do have a small following. Basically, the content would be structured properly and there will be CTAs throughout every video. Example: i’d shoot a video on steps on how to do XYZ thing. Let’s say there are 3 steps to do XYZ. Step 2 being a call to action to a free software tool I created. In order for them to use the free software, they’d have to give me their email address. The free software is my lead magnet basically and it gives them a quick win without being too salesy. If they’re on my email list, i know i can convert at least 10% considering my knowledge of buyer psychology and email marketing automations. I don’t know if it’ll work but worth trying for sure. We shall see.

I literally followed every step in this video. I made use of custom URL, but after i launched the ad, Google disapproved the ad and told me to add keywords. I thought the whole point of using the URL"s is that you dont need to use keywords? Please, i need help😖
Hey K Ben, that's a rather large question, one i don't think I'm the best to answer as it's not my area of expertise. The key thing I would focus on is avoiding anything that emai providers will consider 'spammy' so no caps locks or emojis. Try and focus on having your emails in a more conversational/story like style rather than talking heavily about sales, or buying or anything that looks like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful, there's so much that goes into that but hopefully this gives you some ideas :)
Google asks me to add the tracking code to head and not body element. Also I have a survey that people take... Even i add it to the webpage (kartra) the survey is also on kartra, but i could not find any head element in the survey page. We will see how it goes. Also a question out of curiosity: How succesful are you guys with helping businesses outside the "make money market"?

I came across this recommendation to use ALTERNATIVE UA-cam channel, different from the main one, to host videos for ads, because ads play times and click away ratio may skew the main channel performance stats NOT to your benefit... Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
Hey Glenn, so yes, we do this currently for the same reason, and because we wouldn't want the account to get shut down and lose all our organic content. BUT UA-cam is getting a lot better at separating out the two sources of traffic so it's not vital, but I would agree and say it's good practise :)
If I changed my thumbnail to a custome thumbnail and it shows on my channel as such...why is it not showing as the thumbnail when I copy the URL into my Google Ad? Anyone know? It seems it only brings over the original thumbnail and not the new one I edited that shows on my channel now.
Hey there, I don't run Google ads so wouldn't be able to offer advice on this as i'm not an expert in it. You could always use UA-cam to promote your UA-cam channel or videos.
@@JonPenberthy firstly thanks for your reply, second of all I don't know if you are familiar with the search ads section of google but there are a lot of invalid clicks there because of bots and this eats up the budget. Now a few weeks ago I started a campaign selecting lead generation as my goal, my google dashboard metrics showed clicks but my google analytics and click funnels dashboards does not have the same number of visitors on the landing page. I look further into this and learned that bots are now clicking on UA-cam ads the same way it was with search ads. Are you familiar with this?
Ahh okay, so yes we have noticed that, at the moment if I'm honest it doesn't seem to be much of a problem as our ads are still very profitable, but there is something you can do to reduce it for now! If you go to 'where ads shown section' and pause any of the channels that have any more than 5 interactions at 100% integration rate! That should do it until Google comes out with a solution. :)

@@JonPenberthy another question! Does CPA means that youtube will charge if someone does the specific action in our ad for example putting their info or email or putting their credit card info to purchase. If they don't take these actions we won't be charged.
You will be charged based on people watching your Ad New World, The CPA just gives UA-cam a bench mark for the sort of max that you want to pay for each action :)

Those are two good ways to target with youtube ads. We also target with Video Placements, in-market, and affinity audiences to get maximum results.

Great question, we tend to remove partners network yeah :) But there's no switch for that sadly if using target CPA or maximise conversions, instead you have to do it via exclusions
So we run a website that just referres customers to a sign-up page from our customer.
So people visit our landingpage and click on the button "sign-up" and then the get referred to our customers sign-up page. So we can't put a tracking link on our customers page unfortunately. So is it possible to also track button clicks on our page? And how would we do that?
Hey Failure Taylor! Great question, yes that is something you can do, just when creating your conversion event you can select button clicks, you can see the point in which you would do this at 23:07 where it says CLICK rather than Page Load :) Hopefully that helps Taylor!

Quick question for Aaron: if you want to run two segments (Custom Google Audiences and URLs) with the same add, do you just add another audience in the same campaign, or do you set up (repeat) a whole new campaign and select URLs when setting up the audience segment?
Hey Luis, so you would create a combined segment audience! If you run a campaign with two audiences it will go to them separately, whereas if you combine them in one audience then use that as your targeting, that will be better :) Really glad you enjoyed the video!

I'm mostly doing fun videos (party games with celebs in my country), the ads on UA-cam and Facebook are bringing in a ton of views, but no engagement, no subscribers and more importantly - very few watch hours. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, even after your video.
Hey Maximillian, I'm no expert at all in running ads to my UA-cam channel, we run UA-cam ads to our offers and sales funnels so it's very different. For me, by the sounds of it if the ads are bringing views but nothing else, then you may want to look at how you're structuring the content to get the other things you're looking for. But like I said, I'm not really sure as it's not something I'm an expert in.
How many ads do you recommend per campaign?
Minimum 2 or 3 so you're actually testing against each other :)

Maybe I missed it, but you used to be able to enter specific UA-cam videos that you want your ad to run on, at the beginning. Is that still possible?
They're called placement campaigns, although It's possible, we don't recommend it to our clients anymore as it's not as profitable.
@@JonPenberthy How come? Seemed like the perfect strategy to piggyback off of a topic aligned with yours and a proven audience size.
You need to have so many placements to make a campaign worth it, so we found if you just choose a video to run on then it never does very well. You have to have 500 or more placements in a campaign to really make it worth it and even then it still underperforms compared to our other strategies. On paper it seems like an amazing option but currently it's not as profitable or worth it for us.
Is Custom Google Audience using Keywords different from 'Keyword Targeting'?
Can those URLs be other youtube videos or maybe even Instagram pages ?
They could be yes, but I would assume URLs of Instagram pages wont be very good as most people don't visit them via URLs but instead via the app.
I have a question about locations! I'm targeting military, whom travel the world for work but theyre US citizens. Do my ads need to be for USA or world wide, for them to see it wherever they are at the moment?
In a traffic campaign, I can't deselect the Google Display Network option. If I purely want to run skippable YT ads, is this a problem? Or do you have positive experience with leaving the GDN on?

Hey Jon. I ran a weight loss campaign. Google showed Eligible (Limited). The policy also states the same for weight loss niche. Then how come you are able to run weight loss campaigns? What are your thoughts on this jon?
You just have to be very aware of the google ad policies and then make sure your wording in the ads is in line with it. Sometimes it means not being too direct but still obvious to those who are your target audience. For example, in the medical niche you can't call out people struggling with certain illnesses or diseases, but you can talk about the symptons of those as to make it very obvious what you're tlaking about without directly saying it.
I'm confused by the target CPA versus the daily budget. The target CPA is $35, but the daily budget is set at $5. How does that work?
So CPA is a number to say 'I'm happy to sepnd up to this for a conversion' Now that doesn't mean that is what you will pay, more often than not it's way below that, but you're just giving UA-cam a number to show you're serious and a guideline to work within. If for some reason you were then spending $35 for a conversion and your budget was set to $5 a day, if you do the math that means you would be running your ads for 7 days before you got a conversion (but as I said, that is very unlikely)
Question: How to scale it then once you start getting sales. Is it just about increasing daily budget?
Yes pretty much! But slowly increasing the budget, don't suddenly whack up the spend by loads, but incrementally increae :)

Glad you enjoyed the video Eman! So it's definitely something we're interested in, in fact we may be testing it very soon. If you're in the early stages of your business though I would focus on revenue generating ad spend, so taking someone through a funnel, rather than just growing your channel which is far less predictable. Unless you already have a following and you know your numbers for converting your audience into customers in which case it's something worth looking in to :)
@@JonPenberthy thanks Jon! I do have a small following. Basically, the content would be structured properly and there will be CTAs throughout every video. Example: i’d shoot a video on steps on how to do XYZ thing. Let’s say there are 3 steps to do XYZ. Step 2 being a call to action to a free software tool I created. In order for them to use the free software, they’d have to give me their email address. The free software is my lead magnet basically and it gives them a quick win without being too salesy. If they’re on my email list, i know i can convert at least 10% considering my knowledge of buyer psychology and email marketing automations. I don’t know if it’ll work but worth trying for sure. We shall see.

I literally followed every step in this video. I made use of custom URL, but after i launched the ad, Google disapproved the ad and told me to add keywords.

Hey K Ben, that's a rather large question, one i don't think I'm the best to answer as it's not my area of expertise. The key thing I would focus on is avoiding anything that emai providers will consider 'spammy' so no caps locks or emojis. Try and focus on having your emails in a more conversational/story like style rather than talking heavily about sales, or buying or anything that looks like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful, there's so much that goes into that but hopefully this gives you some ideas :)

Google asks me to add the tracking code to head and not body element. Also I have a survey that people take... Even i add it to the webpage (kartra) the survey is also on kartra, but i could not find any head element in the survey page. We will see how it goes. I came across this recommendation to use ALTERNATIVE UA-cam channel, different from the main one, to host videos for ads, because ads play times and click away ratio may skew the main channel performance stats NOT to your benefit... Any thoughts on this? Thanks!
Hey Glenn, so yes, we do this currently for the same reason, and because we wouldn't want the account to get shut down and lose all our organic content. BUT UA-cam is getting a lot better at separating out the two sources of traffic so it's not vital, but I would agree and say it's good practise :)

@@JonPenberthy firstly thanks for your reply, second of all I don't know if you are familiar with the search ads section of google but there are a lot of invalid clicks there because of bots and this eats up the budget. Now a few weeks ago I started a campaign selecting lead generation as my goal, my google dashboard metrics showed clicks but my google analytics and click funnels dashboards does not have the same number of visitors on the landing page. I look further into this and learned that bots are now clicking on UA-cam ads the same way it was with search ads. Are you familiar with this?
Ahh okay, so yes we have noticed that, at the moment if I'm honest it doesn't seem to be much of a problem as our ads are still very profitable, but there is something you can do to reduce it for now! If you go to 'where ads shown section' and pause any of the channels that have any more than 5 interactions at 100% integration rate! That should do it until Google comes out with a solution. :)

When you put 35 for CPA does it mean that you are going to pay 35 each time somebody clicks at your ads.
Not quite New World, that like a max that we want to pay, but it wouldn't usually reach that, it's only to show UA-cam we're serious about advertising

Does CPA means that youtube will charge if someone does the specific action in our ad for example putting their info or email or putting their credit card info to purchase.
If they don't take these actions we won't be charged.
You will be charged based on people watching your Ad New World, The CPA just gives UA-cam a bench mark for the sort of max that you want to pay for each action :)
