I know what you mean, Ingrid is my favorite Pegasus Rider in Three Houses AND Three Hopes and I liked her character. Really loved how beating her and the scene after her death quote damped the feel of "victory!" with a bittersweetness to it (I won....but at what cost! Shez may not have been close to those not in the route he/she picks, but for the player......I hate having to kill my favorite characters and all the Three House cast are my favorite characters LOL but I kill em anyway as I feel trying to do otherwise is disrespectful to the writers and to the characters and the theme that "War fucking sucks man!")

NONE of them have reasons to defect (And that logically makes sense! As much as they complain it's not a good reason! Many of their defections especially Ingrid are BECAUSE of loyalty to Byleth/The Professor during the Academy Phase and other factors in the case of Felix and Sylvain. But because there "WAS" no academy arc because the Academy closed and they were in their territories for the two years, one that made up Three Houses "Academy arc" they are more affirmed in their dedication to the Kingdom and Dimitri! Felix dad retired and made him the new Duke so he has no reason to defect! She's someone who's truly loyal to her Queen (well, EMPRESS in Edelgard's case) just like Ingrid is loyal to Dimitri, her King. Maybe these kind of characters have a mutual respect for each other by default because of their roles?
I think this is the first time a Fire Emblem game has broke me. I started Three Hopes with Blue Lions, and “S Supported” Ingrid. I wanted to do Black Eagles next since I was so into the story, but doing that I knew fighting Ingrid would be inevitable. The fact that not only did I have Shez deliver the killing blow, but Dimitri straight up paying tribute to her got me choked up, my eyes were nearly on the verge of tears, I had to switch to the home screen just to process all that.
She’s definitely undervalued but I may be a bit biased as I like lady Knight type characters. It sucks I was forced to kill her this route as I deliberately made sure she survived all my 3H playthroughs along with all the other recruitable Lions
Frankly if I was you, I'd never play the game at all as I love ALL the characters of the three houses and even the Knights, Teachers and Rhea! So no matter what route I pick. I'm going to end up in bittersweetness! But man do I love that bittersweet though cause it makes the story feel real, even their deaths I get no pleasure out of victory, no matter the spoils. Even if I pick a route they live....another of my beloved characters will die! No escape man!
This...really had me take a pause from the game for a day or two. I was very much struck by the first character death in the game, and I really liked Ingrid. I shared Dimitri's sorrow in mourning her. Even the Black Eagles were hit by it. But that's what made me understand that this is a real war and that every side has something they are fighting for to achieve or to protect.

Only in Scarlet Blaze? In Golden Wildfire You can kill Rhea and The rest of The Church, in Azure Gleam You can kill Caspar and The Main villain of The Game(Thales).

assuming you recruit everyone possible: ingrid and sylvain die in SB, and annette if you don't use a certain strategy. you can also kill claude if you dont recruit byleth. in other routes, afaik there are no deaths of major characters besides margrave gautier in GW. you don't kill any major characters in AG.

@@adventuresteamstudios242 since in this timeline students at garret Mach monastery didn't get the chance to spend the entire year it means they didn't know students from other houses as well as in three houses Add to that that the war starts two years later than in three houses it makes sense that some characters won't be recruitable, as they will have a bigger sense of loyalty towards their friends/ruler/country after spending those two years in more or less relative peace, especially those from the blue lions given the whole chivalry theme they have
Yeah, interestingly enough, you can't really recruit THAT many Blue Lions as Empire. I think just Ashe and Mercedes. All the other Blue Lions are Kingdom UNTIL DEATH! And will refuse to join you. (Don't have to kill them all though, I think mostly just Ingrid) Likewise, you can't really recruit that many Empire Red Eagles. They're super loyal too. .......but the Golden Deer......they flock to other teams in droves, with you being able to recruit dang there all of them >

Ingrid being my second favorite character behind Dimitri, this scene hurt a lot. It stands out as my most memorable experience of playing this route, and to say that it soured the rest of the route for me would be an understatement. Still, I respect the writing choice and I think it fits the story well. At least the paralogues and Three Way battle at Aillel were cool though

I started Three Hopes with Blue Lions, and “S Supported” Ingrid.
I wanted to do Black Eagles next since I was so into the story, but doing that I knew fighting Ingrid would be inevitable. Annette can die if you opt not to use the Hidden Staircase strategy and/or go after Gustave instead.

On AG, you can also kill off Caspar on Chapter 14 if you defeat him before his father joins the fight.

I love that Three Hopes limits who can be recruited, because it lets them pull out unavoidable moments like this which hit EXTRA hard.
