- Who are the best characters in fire emblem three hopes? This is the final video of the series! However, it is the most important one. In todays video I am going to talk about every single character in the game and where I believe they should land on my very own TIER LIST. You've asked and its time I deliver, what could be a better final video then this? I present my fire emblem three hopes tier list!

It's amazing how high Lysithea got, when she doesn't even get Essence of Darkness. Imagine if she did get that skill.

Lysithea doesn't need Essence of Darkness though, that's why she is so high, if she had it she would probably be 2nd best behind Shez.
I remember scrolling through Flayn's skills figuring she'd be a benchwarmer like in Houses. I was SHOCKED to see how kitted out she was to end lives. Someone in KT was having a laugh.

Flayn is the classic weak character that gets op if u train them, seriously she was probably my 2nd strongest character in Three Houses behind Byleth only just beating out Bernie by the end of my Silver Snow Route.

She is a sleeper character that needs allot of work but once she gets it she is one of the best units in the game.

Really great series of videos, ended perfectly. Best thing for me was how consistent your delivery was for each build you made. Makes it easy to follow. Now I hope we get some DLC master classes to really shake things up for some characters.

That was my hope! I was asked for a tier list so many times I felt like I owed it to the community to do one at the end.
And who knows maybe one day you’ll come back to this game if they add some dlc characters. Characters like Alois and Hanneman have growths in the files they just aren’t playable.

This series really helped me wrap my head around how I wanted to build these characters beyond just mastering their recommended class progression. When I started the game, I was kind of worried about the characters feeling too interchangeable due to the class system, but as I experienced by playing (and that this video exists), everyone still feels very unique despite everyone having access to almost every moveset.
Though, I somewhat have to disagree about Balthus. I think the devs had a clear idea what they were doing with his Hero's Relic and Crest, the idea is that you would play him close to death to get the Weapon's damage boost, but get an occasional heal from his Crest for safety to make him less likely to get killed by a stray arrow or spell. The part that was not thought through is how this tactic works (or rather doesn't work) on Maddening difficulty.
Edit: If you ever end up re-evaluating this tier list in the future, I think it could be useful to factor in how many paths each character is available on, as well as which characters are locked in the Record Keeper battles.
U really shouldn't look at this list, it is fucking terrible.
EDIT: also i doubt the game was balanced around maddening difficulty, games never really are these days.
Personally? I think his Relic, Vajra-Mushti, is better suited on someone WITHOUT a matching Crest. Sure, you won't have access to Eviscerate, but you will have the power to sap your own HP without it being tacked onto your Damage Taken score, while also feeding into other skills requiring you to be below a certain threshold of HP.
@@uberlord983 i mean those kinds of skills are always not worth the risk imo, especially on harder difficulties, i would never use a skill that requires me to be below a certain amount of health despite some people being able to effectively utilise them.

Honestly, try using balthus as an adjutent with his few a rank supports. Then give his relic to the lead. You can use king of grappling and mix it with a character that doesn't have a crest. I feel like that would work better. But I just got the game and haven't had the chance to experiment.
Nice, the tier list finally here! Only thing is I feel dark knight Ingrid is better. Having access to certain spells like thoron is incredible on her and leads to instant shield gauge breaks. You should definitely try it

Found you through this game, very much enjoyed this series and have been trying to compete with some alternate builds which work better for my more reckless playstyle but yours usually come out on top! Its crazy how much work you've put into this game so there's no one's word I'd trust more on it (honestly I agree with about 95% of it as well). Out of interest, what was your favourite route to play now you've finished your time on it (for now anyways)
Edelgard's for sure. I'm not sure why but I preferred that story route in three houses and the same in three hopes. I do appreciate your support! I'm glad you had a good time with my series.

For me it was Blue Lions. Maybe as it was my first route on both Houses and Hopes? The climax for Black Eagles at Ailell was one of the best cutscenes in the game though. I think it had the best start and (near) finish but Blue Lions took if for me due to that epic final battle and Dimitri ripping through Thales. Hopefully we can get a 4th route with the missing characters and maybe even a shorter THSITD route for DLC
Arval also has Essence of Darkness, just like Shez, Hubert, and Jeritza. Arval has the same gender that Shez does in each run so you have to run male Shez and master Dark Mage as Arval

I just tried the demo for this today and got hooked way more than I thought. Decided I didn’t mind spoilers and wanted to see who I may like to keep an eye on. Seeing my boy Hubert is No.1 is so satisfying haha. He was my fave in 3H. Seeing Ferdinand and Lysithea up there is great too.

I super agree with Hapi's placement. I'm at the 300 hr mark too now and it's a night and day difference between the efficiency of her playstyle and a monster like Claude. Same with Petra even though it hurts to say because I like her so much. Good thing everyone is at least viable and can s rank each map on maddening when optimized.
What are some of the offensive abilities you look for when assessing how good a character is? I would be interested in a tier list of those offensive abilities
I really hope we get DLCs to have more playable characters, weapons, classes, skills, and extra modes to try out many ways to break the game in fun ways.

I'd like to watch one on classes. This is a good video but I'd like to know who is best suited for what classes.
The Rank F you chose are pretty much my specialised situational picks. The devs clearly wanted you to use units defensively as well as offensively as you have a max of 4 usable units but the rest of them during story missions are command only. Dedue is very good at plopping right next to a key npc and guarding and you know 1. he'll tank whatever comes especially in a fortress 2. the person hes guarding will defo live.
Hapi though...MAN is she good at killing the immacualate one. I'm currently on the look out for a blessed lance with barrier breaker (starting to get the impression it never drops). But just a normal one she's a beast. She doesn't actually need attack spells. So I just put heal spells on her to use her crest. Nosferatu and fortify are great on her during the boss fight as everyone takes a hard hit during the dargons heavy hitting aoe. Give her appraise and she'll drop top tier weapons like Parthia.
Your correct, some of these characters specialize in certain things, but that does not change the ranking. Defensive units are just not needed in this game, the builds I create are way over kill to. This is simply based on overall protentional.
It's interesting how the top 3 units, according to you, are one from the Empire, one from the Kingdom and one from the Alliance/Federation (even though Lysithea can be recruited in Scarlet Blaze).
I was so sure the Marianne was gonna be the #2 and Hubert the #1 because the permanent locks, but I agree with your reasoning to but Marianne in B. Your builds and some better characterization in game really made me put the effort on some of the characters I wasn't a fan of in 3 houses. Hope your next projects do well and you continue to grow.
Marriane has the most fun to use unique skill in the game. Getting hail for playing better? Amazing.

Apex weapon skills seem to have gotten fixed in the newest update, so that might change some placements? Maybe put Lysithea above Flayn?

The fact that Flyan of all characters is one of the best characters is wild when she's one of the worst in 3 Houses.

After the Ashen Wolves DLC, she's definitely above average. Dark Flyer gave her a much needed class. Letting her have all of her Supporting capacity such as Rescue, Flying mobility, and Black Tomefaire for her large Magic stat.
She went from being a unit people would maybe use as a Dancer, or turned into a Holy Knight with a lot of time and effort for her Rescue, into an incredibly easy access good DPS, Flying Heal/Rescue unit.
The same thing happened to Marianne, and even Anna, if you decided to work through her Black magic, or just made her into a Trickster, which effectively made her "not a bad unit" anymore

I hate Bernadetta. Sadly, part of that is due to her Japanese voice Actress. When I changed the voices to English to hear Sungwon Cho and Joe Zeidja, she was way more tolerable, but still my most hated character in the 3H universe.

Hubert was the character I ended up giving my first Merc Whistle to because his unique ability was that broken. I gave it to Shez on NG+ and did stunlocks forever.
I figured out how op is edelgard mortal savant with seiros sword...she didnt even broke a sweat in this mock battle on maddening mode
What ability were the mages using in the video that made their attacks and combat arts significantly larger than normal?
You have the following options for increasing your attack size, though this is character-dependent:
- Essence of Element (Priest for light, else warlock): modifies all strongs and arts that use that element, generally making them bigger or creating additional attacks.
- Magic Attack Range+ (Gremory): extends the range of all attacks while using a tome. Shez and Arval CAN get this, but Byleth cannot.
- Range Master (Dark Knight, innate): extends the range of all attacks.
- {Range+} (Bow attribute): increases bow range. Failnaught has a unique version that extends it further. However, since we're not playing Final Fantasy 4, no one can equip a bow and magic at the same time.
- Far-Reaching Magic (some accessories): extends the range of attacks while using a tome. Found on three items: Circe Staff, Caduceus (sacred: Cethleann), and Thyrsus (hero: Gloucester).
- One for the Books (UA: Caspar), based on holding your strong attack.
- Gordian Stroke (UA: Sylvain), based on combo.
- Martial Prowess (UA: Rodrigue), based on timed attacks.
So Shez can get essence of dark, magic attack range, and range master - and then use Sylvain's whistle accessory to switch to Gordian Stroke, resulting in absurdly large magic attacks. Hubert has essence of dark and range master; but he will use a Far-Reaching Magic instead of Gordian Stroke, because we want to keep his UA for juggling.
For the DLC characters who are inevitable to come, are you going to make their builds, and talking about their placement on the tier list, or you’re going to save it for the next tier list you’ll do, when the game is complete.
Probably, its going to depend on when they come out.
It would be cool to have something like Fates’s Malig Knight in the game - that might help some characters out a lot, like Seteth by getting him Excalibur.
I think Dedue and Jeralt would be higher if they have self-inflicting damage skills like impossible feat to make use of their "Prepared to die" innate skill since it can be risky to let an enemy reduce your health down without reaching 0
what game are you going to cover next?
I feel like Leonie's Unique is actually pretty good for classes that don't move around all that much (Mages/Archers). You don't have to worry about positioning as much and you can shred through Guard Gages with rapid attacks while roleplaying a Persian arrow barrage from 300 with 1 character.
Yeah the primary thing that sells units imo is damage boosting stuff, strength up, offensive tactics , and in some cases dual onslaught.
One point I'd like to make about Balthus's Golden Fists is that he makes gold when he sends enemies flying, NOT when he kills them (like Despoil).
Meaning he doesn't have to actually kill them in order to trigger it. Most mooks might die to a combo, but if you're committed to grind gold, you can give him a weak weapon and just spam 3 light attacks and 1 Heavy (as Brawler class) to generate a ton of cash inside a Stronghold. Preferably a weapon with the Chain buff to extend the hit counter.
Being honest, I'm kinda happy that my favourites are so good in this game, since Hubert was my favourite from the trailers since the beginning, and was honestly more interested in him than even shez (even though with time I warmed up to the character too, since shez felt like a nice main character to have), to the point where I knew my first route would be again the black eagles, like it happened in three houses, and well, Arval is honestly quite a funny character that I wish could be deployed in normal battles, since I felt like he was the right hand man for Shez in the same way hubert was for Edelgard, at least due to the way they interacted. Also, which route did you like best?
I think Bernadetta should be a lot higher on the list. Her ability freezes everything in the field including bosses. Keep her as a warrior and she will murder all.

Weapon: Thunderbrand.
Accessory: Azure Dagger.
Battalion: Calvary.
Combat Arts: Electric Grounder & Foudroyant Strike.
The build name is Lysithea: the Shocking Savant.
Very nice video though I did think Marianne at least deserved an A even if blutgang isn’t easy to get because it’s her personal weapon and her peak form deserves that spot.
Yeah I can understand the reasoning. It was hard to decide where to put her, if it wasn't for the fact that a few other characters are better then she is with blutgang she would have moved up to A.
Wtf marianne is nuts with freezing and is probably going to break no sweat at all in this mock battle on maddening mode with blutgang if strenght and her natural magic are maxed...trust me freezing make opponent be unable to move so its like come on...and her weapon does hurt alot with beast fang and with ice blade or you can teach her by someone light blade and use renewal and use asclepius accessory or goddes ring to heal and that would hold her to almost never die or you can use magic blade which is also learned by marianne personally by going trickster and that skill also heal lol and she never die just like edelgard mortal savant with seiros sword and her axe training set up
For me it’s been lysethia as stat wise and her potential is really good. Hubert used to take on a lot of damage in my playthroughs, it could be his limited availability for one route only
Can’t wait for DLC, like I’ve said before this was an excellent series. Also pretty funny low tier characters are still busted lol. I think I may make a for fun Mercenary build later since it gets a full moveset if you go back to it after getting a Master class in swords

Most of the footage in this video is Gatekeeper’s paralogue, in which normally Shez is the only character you use and you fight all 3 houses worth of students. It’s being played using other characters by going through the Record Keeper rather than the story version

I'm so happy that Hubert is number one, Athe moment I picked up FE3H I was going for Linhardt but fell in love with him. Immediately started maining him in 3 Hopes, and I am so proud that the emo boy has the highest rank here. Love him sm
Damn, all three student cavalier boys are in S, it almost feels intentional by the devs. They left their elders Rodrigue and Jeralt in the dust
I've recently build Lysithea and I actually think she's no1 over Hubert when maxed. With gremory+ her relic tome her magic cooldowns are near instant at around 3/4 seconds. With some trouble I taught Thoron which gives a nice cursed expulsion explosion, and the nice Get Off Me she needs to stay safe, and you can gather stuff that's Spellbound so it's less of a bother to blow random soldiers up. I also run Hades since it keeps things afloat for a while dealing good damage. With near constant magic spam Unsought Power recharges awakening very quickly so you can pretty much use it on demand in case stuff doesn't die. I use magic near exclusively over any kind of regular attack, so enemies just can't attack constantly getting stunned by it. Everything dies near instantly anyway.
Hubert has a very cool unique that likely makes him better for much of the game, but when optimized dark spikes juggling is slower then relying on spamming Magic as much as possible. And Lysithea has the offensive abilities and awakening access to make it flawless. It's kind of a shame ''combat art'' Magic is so good compared to just using a regular moveset.
I have a question: why is healing considered a bug deal? The thing about many Warriors titles, including this one, is getting an s rank. No matter if you heal, if you get too much damage, you won't get the s, so the thing isn't healing, is preventing getting damaged.
For endgame purposes, I think it's mainly to counteract self-damage from things like Lifeforce and Impossible Feat, which would otherwise put you in range of being killed by random small hits, or deactivate when you get too low.

I personally have my favorite and i have play 4th times! The special item i got was 1st was EDGARD with flame infused, 2nd Dimitri with lighting infused Op since electro and ice has amazing debuff effect! Freeze enemy and broken the guard gauges! 3rd, is Balthus i just realized his ability in 3rd playthrough like men fr?! This ability is life quality for money farm! 4th, i guess definitely Ferdinand!! love as characters, story and his ability make him the strongest fastest character as long u can make his hit count extended through weapon abilities! Other characters i haven't got but totally aim for it was Marianne, felix, claude, byleth i guess and oh!! F Slyvian tooo he broken men!! Love his ability to have amazing long Range melee!! Or range DPS with pf coures weapon extended hit count he amazing same like Ferdinand!.

You can keep her with her own skill, since Lysithea should be running Thyrsus, Asclepius, or a crest orb (extra chance to proc Unsought Power) depending on what arts you're equipping. (Her native Gloucester and Charon crests can't proc off the same art, as Gloucester interacts with magic, and Charon with combat arts.)
Those options are more valuable than anything you could get from swapping her unique.

Seteth: I have a request of you. Flayn is not the best unit in Three Hopes. I'd like you to fix that in anyway you can. And I do mean ANYway. I expect this task to be done without Flayn's knowledge.
I have never noticed Hapi's damage output to be that bad since she was easily able to clear Gatekeepers paralogue on maddening at level 50. I guess when I go to cap everyone else's level it will be even easier.
im very mad hapi isnt good. but aside from that nice video. but maybe a proper tierlist picutre wouldve been nice in the end of the video

Though honestly I was suprised she had any damage potential at all, having been meant to be a healer... Much less near best in game.
Honestly, I slapped Golden Fists to Ashe, gave him Despoil, and other loot skills, made him a Thief/Assassin and made him my go-to looter character. This type of utility makes him a much better character, if you ask me.
This is my build.
Ashe w/ Golden Fists Lv. 3, Lockpick Lv. 3
Class: Thief/Assassin/Trickster
Important Class Abilities: Steal* (if you downgrade to Thief), Locktouch, etc.
Equipped Abilities: Sword Prowess Lv. 3, Appraisal*, Concentration*, Boost Critical, Sneak Attack, Despoil*, Provoke, Anchor, Fiendish Blow, Battle Instincts.
You can switch around anything that isn't Appraisal and Despoil, basically. Keep Concentration as it's required for this build to work.
Weapon: Dark Creator Sword +100 or anything with Chain Lv.3.
Combat Arts/Magics: Assassinate, Windsweep, etc.
It's not meant to be a build where he's OP, but it does the trick when you need a utility character. He can still unleash Wind-torn (Fiendish Blow is used for this) with his wind spells or wind sword combat tricks, while his main purpose would be to yoink all the coins, loots, etc. Also, he can unlock every chest without any keys... So there's that. He's always in my team when I'm replaying maps that got unlockable chests.
What I do to boost Ashe's damage and Wind-torn triggers, is to pair him up with Annette and all the buffs she can learn - Wind Assist being one of the most important skills, if you want to do more damage. This makes a strong team.
Even the characters at the bottom can do well if you give them the right stuff, you can't consider that element if you want to see where a character should be because any other character given the same resources are better. Ashe has almost nothing ability wise sadly. But I do agree, your set up would work pretty well on ashe.
@@BurnerRebornGaming To be honest with you, I sorta expect the DLCs to change the status quo around for everyone, if they provide us with new classes and weapons. It's fun to figure out new builds for each character, though. My Mercedes is a Trickster with Ridill and she's actually fun to play as. Though I gave her Fortify and Belganone (mispelled?) for healing and damage purpose. I pair her up with a mounted unit whenever I need to heal an NPC. Making her both a good healbot and a healer unit whenever I switch to her.

So simply, the game does a great job as a musou game. When even the F tier can break the game on hardest difficulty. Compared to other musou games such as Pirate Warriors that Ussop and Chopper are useless.
I'm so sad Dedue scored so low. My favorite character is always underappreciated. :(
my boy hubert is number 1 and o couldnt agree more! i dont really like the mage class in my early plqythrough because of how weak they are but hubert is an exception.

Not everything is about damage...
This tier list did not factor in character availability. The problem with characters like Hubert, Flayn, Sylvan, Felix, e.t.c. are that they are locked to just a single route. This does not matter if you are replaying missions, but does for trying to rush/progress through routes where free play is not available, something that is important for grinding stat items and whistles. Such characters are pretty much limited to A tier at best because you cannot use them 66%, or more, of the time. After all, what good is a character you cannot use? Like wise a lot of the lower tier characters deserve higher tiers just for availability to all choices on all routes, even if not initially available. For example Bernadetta and Petra might not have the highest damage potential, but they are available early on to all routes greatly improving their usefulness. This is also why Shez is pretty much the top of S tier as with exception of a few special missions they are always available and even required for most end of chapter missions, as well as having all the good "grind" abilities to speed up your progress.
Byleth can depend on their awakening for damage. With exception of end of chapter missions they maintain very high up time on awakening, only needing the odd pot to reset it mid battle. Being able to reliably be in awakening mode when needing to deal damage is very powerful, especially when that awakening is boosted, and more than makes up for missing some damage abilities. The high awakening up time for better drops combined with access to all the good farming talents makes them very good at general farming as well. They are also one of the few characters that can A support with most other characters allowing them to take advantage of the level 3 support abilities of most other characters.

Also as Bernadetta I was able to back Hilda into a corner and just combo her into oblivion. She didn’t land a hit on me.
You made Goro Akechi very proud. If you listen closely to Hubert especially during a warrior special, his laugh reminds us of Goro Akechi.
I’m not an expert, and won’t claim to be, though I think it’s clear to me that I have a different meta philosophy than you, although there are some things that I feel you were either too brief at explaining or not considering, or just not good at explaining. So I’m going to share what I noticed and my own opinions, I wrote most of this while first watching the video.
Dedue is definitely not F tier, he’s one of 3 units who learns prepared to die and with its conditions met he can spam warrior specials till the sun goes down, prepared to die is one of the single most powerful abilities in the game. Dedue’s biggest flaw is that he can’t get self damaging skills that put him into prepared to die range, also, he does learn other damage boosting skills, defiant strength, which has the same condition as prepared to die, and Str+ skills, and is actually pretty significant.
Hapi has one of the better support abilities in Monstrous Appeal, which unlike other unique action abilities, other characters can’t copy without her being fielded, and she has a solid use case, which very few units have in the game at all. It does imo make her stand out and is enough to say she isn’t one of the worst units in the game, especially because she’s useful against the final bosses of two routes.
Why is Leonie getting essence of fire important? Ashe gets essence of wind, and dedue also gets essence of fire.
Ashe compared to Yuri learns impossible feat, essence of wind, and absorb dex (which is better of the two imo.) I’d say if anything makes yuri better than Ashe, it’s his access to sharpshooter, which makes him really effective at killing fodder, but he’s really comparable to ashe.
Bernadetta’s relying on warrior and awakening gauge doesn’t make her worse than other units, it just means she has to rely on those gauges, what matters is how effective she is at things you want her to do.
Jeralt can get absorb strength, and then just change into a strength class, he also is the other unit to learn prepared to die, which makes him capable of spamming warrior specials to no end, he also learns defiant strength. Like dedue, his biggest problem is that he can’t get lifetaker or impossible feat to damage himself. That’s really not too big of a deal however. I’m not sure why you think he wants to be a mage at all for any reason other than to pick up skills.
Why is monica especially good as a dancer? Her unique action only does anything when she’s normal/heavy attacking, and it only copies elements that her own attacks have. Luna only does anything if you make her use a strength weapon, it doesn’t effect magic damage, we could give monica stat boosters, but that same logic can apply to how bernadetta can learn flare and then stack her own magic and luck, and then use an invert str/mag weapon or a wit strike weapon. Also dedue and leonie booth also get duel onslaught.
The attack timing abilities don’t work on class actions, so neither monica or shamir activate their UA when they’re dancing.
How is darting blow a supportive ability? It just increases awakening gauge fill rate.
A lot of UA abilities, like dorothea’s, are impractical against bosses so if you want to count the as positives, that’s fine, but then you also have to consider lethality, which isn’t bad at killing fodder in this game, and a good amount of the characters you put lower in this list have it, including dorothea actually. It doesn’t really matter how much damage you deal to fodder when you could kill them almost instantly with a multi-hit move.
Raphael can just take the skills he learned as a mage and then take them to any other class, in fact he definitely should do that if you want those skills unless you don’t mind using brawnstrike tomes or hrotti. For the record duel onslaught doesn’t just tape your strength and magic together, whichever stat isn’t the normal attacking type has less of an effect on the damage of the attack. I tested this by giving claude a bow with invert physical/magical testing his damage and then testing it again with a bow with comparable might and no invert skill in the training facility mock battle. The difference in damage his crits dealt was ~1,500 The bows had no other damage impacting effects and claude only had duel onslaught and luna equipped, but both bows were doing strength dmg so luna would’ve benefited them equally,
(Claude had 119 str and 53 mag as well as 120 lck and the bows had a difference of 2 might) That aside, missed potential for funny mage, does not a bad unit make.
For seteth, why does he have to be a wyvern lord? Why can’t he be a holy or dark knight, what about his kit only functions if he’s a wyvern lord? I ask because you don’t make convincing arguments as to why he should be one. He does have other options, and again, a “split kit” doesn’t mean a unit is bad.
Again with hilda, “split kit” does not a bad unit make, she doesn’t even have a split kit, her having any magical strength doesn’t mean she’s in any way worse as a melee unit. you don’t need to make her a mixed attacker, she already gets luna, so she can just stack luck and bypass defense entirely. And she also learns both undaunted and wild abandon, which are both really good, her having flare doesn’t make her worse because she can’t utilize it, she doesn’t need it because she already gets luna. And her spell list doesn’t matter.
Mercedes’s one strength imo in this game is simply, sharpshooter, she kills fodder wonderfully and vs them her offenses don’t matter, that said, being a good healer barely matters when pretty much any unit can heal other units well enough and elixirs exist. And there are plenty ways to heal as is. Same logic as to why she’s bad in FE3H, she not worth fielding over any unit who I can just have heal on and that’ll end up just as helpful. She’s one of the worst units in the game imo.
Watching this video I it seems like you think essence skills only do anything for spells, I don’t think I need to say this but they work on combat arts too, and caspar learns flamewhorl kick. Also yet again “split kit” does not a bad unit make. Caspar doesn’t care about his magic that’s not a flaw, just teach him the skills you want from the line and take them somewhere else.
Marianne doesn’t have to rely on blutgang, what blutgang does for her is that it has synergy with life force, but beast fang is just unblockable life steal dark spikes, and every character can learn dark spikes with adjutant learning, so while beast fang is nice, what sets Marianne apart is how she can learn a ton of skills to spam combat arts to get warrior and awakening gauge really easily, to a point that she’ll be doing both constantly, she’s a very good adjutant as a mounted unit as she can give booth periodic healing, to extend effects like impossible feat, and ice assist, which is a very nice element to have. Also, yes you totally can use life force even without beast fang, it’s not a bad skill, and sometimes you actually want to be damaged and usually the self damage doesn’t matter too much when there are already so many ways to heal. The lord’s are really underrated here, Edelgard and Claude both get Luna, duel onslaught, and howl, and Dimitri and Claude both get impossible feat, absorb skills, and effective against everything combat arts while Edelgard can just use War strike. All three of them learn wild abandon. Dimitri’s savior of the meek lets him juggle pretty much anyone juggle-able, effectively freezing them, and increases in potency with Absorb strength, Edelgard’s Stormer of the Land lets her be incredibly bulky to the point where she doesn’t take knock back, and Claude’s Seeker of greatness let’s him stack crit twofold. Between all three of them, Claude has both the other’s strengths, the best class, with an absurdly powerful class action, really good move type, and huge attacks, and windgod which is absolutely the best combat art in the whole game because he always powers it up with an essence skill and it’s effective against everything, not to mention luna lets him ignore enemy defense entirely, so great knight mean nothing to him and he can run nullify effective vs flying to not even have disadvantage against flyer effectiveness. Speaking of which, he has flyer effectiveness with his normal attacks too and it allows him to erase flyers with his class action even harder than his class action already does. Imo he’s solidly one of the best units in the game, not to mention he can use the inexhaustible, and use wind god even more.
With Annette she’s fine as an adjutant, but does being an adjutant make her a good enough unit too deploy? She’s not even leagues better than her competition, because her support ability is mediocre, if anything sets her apart, it’s her unique action ability because it has 3 amazing effects, acting as 100% crit, a movement and atk speed buff, and an elemental lord essence dependent on the character, she can buff her ice element allies to always attack with ice. For example.
Gatekeeper is way better than you’re giving him credit too, his offenses vs fodder don’t matter when he learns sharpshooter, and he also learns prepared to die which is still absolutely insane.
Personally I think that you shouldn’t be docking units for needing different action abilities, I think you should instead be considering that very few characters have true niches, if the thing that most enables hubert is his action ability then you have to consider that other characters can use his action ability, the only true niche characters have is item slot freedom, Marianne is the only one who can run blutgang beast fang and any unique action ability, for example. Certain characters actually do have completely unique action abilities, like sothis, rhea, and arval. But if Sylvain is only good because of his action ability anyone can be as good as him with his action ability. The consideration is then who gets the most value out of sylvains’s action ability.
Also, fun fact, relic damage only damages you down to 50% which is not that bad, but not low enough to be useful sadly, also, it’s not bad enough for crest stones to be necessary imo.
