Nice! Weirdly (or maybe not?) one of the things I remember most about games like Breath of Fire or Diablo are all the little critters that are part of the environment.
I think a book where you can collect the animals you´ve seen would be a fun and special feature. If you found all the animals you can get a special item or a title this would give an secon goal for the game and I think players would have much fun with the grind for rare animals.
Loving this and like you said it makes the game feel that more alive especially having Snoot's are a really nice touch. It'd be interesting to see wild Snoot's at some point out in the wild and see how May reacts. Just an idea lol. Loving the dev logs everyone and thanks for sharing all your hard work!
This looks awesome, congrats on the progress! A point of feedback for the way your birds behave: they appear to only fly away if you get near them but in real life you’ll notice once 1 flys away the rest or most of the rest follow. It’d be interesting to see that behavior where if you spook 1 bird in a flock, the rest will start to fly away from nearest to player to furthest. Also, if you want to add more detail, it’d be awesome to see some shading variety for the animals. Like what if the animals that have shells have slightly different shades of that red? Or what if some shells are white, others are green and others are red? It’d be a small touch that would add a lot :)
Can we get a small animal I can bully off a cliff? Like maybe a parachute frog? And an animal who get midly upset if you disturb like a spider if you walk over his web?
I was wondering about the planned difficulty of the game. Will there be optional difficult parts like Celeste's C sides? (I assume u are still working on the main content of the game but I was wondering if there will be any challenging parts for people experienced with platformers)
This idea just popped on top of my head: how about u guys make a stone creature that always take sneaky look at the character when she faced away from the rock, and close their eyes and pretend to be just a normal rock when she is facing them. Sorry if that's dumb but i just want to type it out xD
Quick question, I’m really interested in game development and hopefully going to start a coding class this summer. I was always wondering though, if the actual coding part of games is hard. Most devlogs I watch, the coding is barely touched upon. Is it hard, or roes it just get easier the more you practice? Btw the new animals look fire 🔥
Coding is... naturally hard. But it does get easier and easier the more you practice. I'd recommend checking out tutorial UA-cam series to get a feel for how the coding works. I personally used Shaun Spalding's platformer tutorial series when I first started.
I hope i'm not too late, i love these videos. Its amazing how much of efforts your guys put in the details! I have a question about Bao, Mae's partner, is him kind of a spirit, or just a friendly animal guy? He's so cute!
Wow, all this for chapter one! (Witch of course will lay the foundation for the next chapters). It's really cool seeing how hard you guys work to make this game! And I'm curious, other than storyboarding and any of that, have you started working on the next chapter/s? And if so, will you show us? Because of course you wouldn't want to spoil the game for us, so how much of those next chapters will you show?
We have been working on future chapters. New mechanics and wireframes. We’ll probably show quite a bit of them, but we’ll try to do so tactfully so as not to ruin the game and story.
It's looking very nice ! I'm creating an open world 2d game... Is. It's huge! I can't even explain how big it is. It had multi environments and time lines. Ie 1980s 8 bit art to modern 4k
I think the biggest problem I have with the visuals of the game is the lack of contrast between the background and the character, it could be fixed with post processing, I don't know it's just my opinion
I love the little creatures. It is definitely working as intended, making this feel much more magical.
Also this is one of the most exciting thing to show in a devlog for me! Don’t undestimate how much we are here for small little details!
I just LOVE the designs of these dudes! Noah did a great job!
I know it’s a small detail but I absolutely love the new rejoining Animation it’s SO satisfying!
Thanks for continuing to inspire me
YAAY PARTICLES, YOU DID IT GUYS!!!!, CANT WAIT FOR MORE

Like the more frequent updates and videos, and Im impartial to spiky animals that curl up into cute little things so if you ever run out if ideas :3

I absolutely love this game's attention to detail. Genuinely better than most other youtube gamedevs lol
The elephant snails are adorable omg
Wow this pixel art is STUNNING. So pretty!!
Well done devlog video style (fellow GameMaker?). I pinned your video on my community tab so other developers can check you out also.
Thank you! Yup it’s GM

So cool! I bet this game will beat Hallow Knight in terms of popularity and mechanics, hands down. Keep it up!
Wow crazy high praise man! I don’t believe we’ll ever beat Hallow Knight lol, but thanks!

Oh my gosh I love this
Amazing video as always

Looks great!
I call them Snailephants.

100% yes there will be option difficult parts, secret levels, etc.
