saw him in the 70's in Christchurch New Zealand in an outdoor concert, brilliant. Frampton is a somewhat underrated guitarist who also played in popular bands Humble Pie and The Herd
To put it mildly. It is one of the top selling LIVE album's of all time. Also, check out Peter Frampton before he went solo as a member if HUMBLE PIE- I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR. NOT singing, just playing lead guitar. Absolute FIRE !!!!
The album Frampton comes alive was the biggest selling album in the US at the time. Not bad for an English guy. Was huge everywhere even here in Australia. "Show me the way" was his other huge hit.
One of my 3 favorite guitar players. He plays through a Leslie speaker through much of the song giving it the sound of an organ. Impeccable phrasing and tone. Frampton is incredible.
Peter Frampton was introduced to the talkbox by Pete Drake, who developed it and had it connected to a pedal steel guitar. As soon as Peter saw Pete performing it ,all sorts of alarms went off in his head about what he could do musically with it. He then immediately set about getting a talkbox and he is to this day undoubtedly, the best guitarist in musical history who knows how to use it to it's full potential.
You have to hit the live version from the "Frampton Comes Alive" album. You'll see the difference in sound quality and the performance! Frampton's one of the best guitar players ever!! Check out his stuff with Humble Pie! it's the shit!! 🎸🎙🎶✌👊
Yup...this is one case where his rule of going with studio recordings would’ve paid off bigger, even though the album version was live. Much better experience.
I long ago Subscribed and really liked your method of reacting as, initially, after 2 quick pauses I thought " I hope he is not going to break this up in bits" but you did the opposite and kept it moving right to the end maintaining and building continuity and momentum with your educated, insightful comments said aloud and that was ideal, my friend :)
Definitely check out the studio version, glad you started with the live version for the visuals on this song. Frampton Comes Alive album is a kickass album. Peter was an innovator of the voice box, and a legendary underrated guitarist. He has a lot of great music. Thanks.
Peter now has a degenerative muscular disease. He toured before Covid and still has it though. I was lucky enough to see him as Billy Joel’s special guest at Billy’s 70th birthday show at the Garden. He also just wrote a great book. Plus...he really is a nice person.
Saw Peter Frampton back in the 60's when he was in a band called the Herd. They were supporting the Who at Birmingham town hall in the UK. They were brilliant! Been a fan ever since
The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert were favorites of many of us who grew up in the 70's. Lots of top acts would play live on those shows.
Frampton is such an innovative guitarist. No one uses a voice box like him. That's my favorite guitar. I have a 78 Gibson Black Beauty. The one you see him playing is much older. 1954
Great song and reaction. The live version from Frampton Comes Alive in 1976 was anthemic during that year and ever since. Joe Walsh, from The Eagles, singing Rocky Mountain Way using the talk box is another good one.
Released 1973 on his album "Framptons Camel", but later became more popular with his 1976 release of "Frampton Comes Alive". I was a teen in the 70's, living in CA. Some of the best years of my life! They just don't make music like this anymore.
I was 15 or 16 when this came out and virtually, everyone had the "Frampton Comes Alive" album. Years later, I was fortunate enough to see him 3 or 4 times as part of Ringo Starr and His All Star Band along with others like Michael McDonald, etc. The cool thing about Ringo was that, in addition to all of Ringo's songs, they always performed the hits of his all star performers. Peter Frampton was bald by then but still performed just like in this video. It was great!
Frampton was a staple back in the day and was great. You should check out the band he was in before going solo, a band called Humble Pie, featuring the late, great Steve Marriot on lead vocals, Peter was the guitar man and harmonies, which there were plenty of with them. I would first suggest a song called Black Coffee as I think you would really dig it. Two others of theirs' were 30 Days in the Hole, and I Don't Need No Doctor, both of which were big hits and have been covered by many bands since. Keep doing what you're doing, always enjoy your reactions and analyzations!
Peter Frampton is probably the guitarist most closely linked with the talk box - he even sold his own for a while under the brand "Framptone" with a couple of other pedals.
This song was absolutely huge when it came out!! It was the long live version that was on the radio. Which at that time it was pretty unheard of to play that long of a song and it to be live on top of that! Always brings back memories of my college days.
FYI Peter Frampton is the one and only Billy Shears in The Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band movie... The Band of course is The Beegees! And The EVB Evil Vilnius Band...Arrowsmith!
The version on his live album “Frampton Comes Alive” is better and absolutely transcendent magic. You really should listen to it. The magic of the night they caught on tape is one of rock’s great recorded performances.
This is another song that brings up memories of my father. He had the album ‘Frampton Comes Alive’, and I remember him playing this song for me. When it got to the talk box section, I remember being blown away. I thought ‘wait a minute, that’s coming from a guitar?’ Every time I hear the opening lick to this I instantly flash back to being in the basement listening to music with him.
LOL!! You had me at FUCK YOU. Frampton Comes Alive is rock and chill at a perfect level. I was only 5 when this album came out but some of my older cousins were playing it a lot. Glad you enjoyed it.
That break down in the last 2 minutes is freakin epic. Gives me shivers. Check out The Edgar Winter Group if you havent already. Another group that was a little different.
Jay you have chosen a true gem of the past. Not many albums have reached the legendary status this Comes Alive! double album has. BTW Sherman in my hand = Blunt. Try Pink Floyd Dark side of the Moon. Same era, even more legendary.
J, His "Show Me The Way" is another awesome track from 'Frampton Comes Alive'. Cheap Trick's 'Live At Budokan" was the another great live album in the 1970's.
In critiquing, please consider the age of the video. We are very Blessed to be able to see these live performances of old. So the drums aren’t loud enough? So what, this is epic!
I would checkout "The Promised Land" by Bruce Springsteen, specifically the live version from the 1980 concert from Tempe, Arizona. The concert was filmed by a four camera professional crew with the sound patched straight from the sound board. For passion, musicianship and an audience being blown away with joy, you can not beat this one. And you should learn who Clarence Clemmons - saxophonist (RIP) is. Afterwards you will feel like the girl at the end felt. You'll see.
I've always appreciated Peter's going for every color tone throughout his solos. He tries to stay away from anything cliche or common like the one three or five. He's a hell of a player.
Hit that Mutha Fn' like and subscribe! 🔥
saw him in the 70's in Christchurch New Zealand in an outdoor concert, brilliant. Frampton is a somewhat underrated guitarist who also played in popular bands Humble Pie and The Herd
Frampton Comes Alive was a huge album!
If you didn't own this album back in the day, you had no shot at being cool. Anybody and everybody in HS had this and wore it out.
Huge? It’s the best selling live Album ever!
It was issued to everyone...then came Rumours. The Midnight Special was a big deal growing up.
To put it mildly. It is one of the top selling LIVE album's of all time. Also, check out Peter Frampton before he went solo as a member if HUMBLE PIE-
I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR.
NOT singing, just playing lead guitar. Absolute FIRE !!!!
@@inspectorvol951 Used to use this awesome album and its cover back in the day for a different reason!
Grossly underrated musician.
The album Frampton comes alive was the biggest selling album in the US at the time. Not bad for an English guy. Was huge everywhere even here in Australia. "Show me the way" was his other huge hit.
Greatest live album ever!
FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE!
One hell of an album.
I knew would enjoy the voice box. He is one bad ass guitar player. Glad you enjoyed!!
Don’t forget he founded Humble Pie with Steve Marriot
I saw Humble Pie with Edgar Winter the Pie got rained out and they returned the following week and played and not long after I saw Peter twice
GOD I LOVE me some Peter Frampton!!! He's one of my favorite guitarists EVER!
And now you see why, on this song, you needed to hear/see it live. Glad you enjoyed it! Peace! Another song, Show Me The Way. Live of course.
One of the best selling albums of ALL TIME...fact
One of my 3 favorite guitar players. He plays through a Leslie speaker through much of the song giving it the sound of an organ. Impeccable phrasing and tone. Frampton is incredible.
Frampton was a rock God in the 70s...he was a virtuoso on the guitar!!
AWESOME - One of the All Time Great live performers !!!
I was 15 when I heard this song and then it seemed like everyone was listening and it was everywhere
I remember this performance! Midnight Special was a must! Frampton in a stellar guitarist. Saw him in concert and he’s awesome!
Anything by Frampton needs to be ‘live’!! Glad you reacted to this! Nicely done!
Fantastic. I wonder if Prince saw this video before he did his superb guitar solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
YES YOU HAVE TO!!!!!
Most definitely listen to the album version! I wore this album out back in the late 70's
You couldn't have a better introduction to Peter Frampton! Thank you for your great Reaction!
I love Peter Frampton and the Frampton Comes Alive album. It’s my high school 8 Track go to! Thanks for doing this
I long ago Subscribed and really liked your method of reacting as, initially, after 2 quick pauses I thought " I hope he is not going to break this up in bits" but you did the opposite and kept it moving right to the end maintaining and building continuity and momentum with your educated, insightful comments said aloud and that was ideal, my friend :)

I just saw an article where his favoite guitar that was stolen for more than 20 years was recovered..
Not stolen - was in a plane crash - someone found it and years later returned to Peter
@@mcddtlc I do believe you..article was not a very reputable source
@@traceyclemons7800 - that’s from Peter himself

I was 16 in '76 and I swear to God you'd hear this song everywhere.
The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert were favorites of many of us who grew up in the 70's. Lots of top acts would play live on those shows.
I saw the Frampton comes alive tour!!!! AMAZING!

Lmao at 7:44 when you yell yeah then remember you aren't in the audience is all too relatable 😂
I remember mom letting me stay up to watch this. I was seven, & had a huge crush on Peter.
Didn't realize until the end that this was a Midnight Special segment. I think 99% if not all of the acts on the show were live, no lip-syncing.
This was live for sure
Lines On My Face from the Frampton Comes Alive is an amazing version worthy of reaction!
I was at the concert in Washington DC in 11/1975 when they recorded the album
You have to do this song off of Frampton Comes Alive for the full affect of the voice box.
In 1978 Peter Frampton appeared in season 2, episode 13 of a popular WW2 TV series called Black Sheep Squadron.
In 1975 Frampton had one if the biggest selling albums in rock history with Frampton Comes Alive!
I was waiting... I knew you’d love the voice box ❣️❣️🌙
Classic. Timeless.
This was a tv show so this is the short version. He goes off on the long album version
3:12 He's playing chords (rhythm) right there!
Still sounds killer today !! Keep reacting to cool jams, im gonna keep watching! 👍

Jay Rah, 'Frampton Comes Alive' is one of the largest selling live albums. I saw him in concert. Do more from his live album.
I saw him 2nd row center...was amazing!
Lines on my face by him is my favorite great song
Do You Feel Like We Do from Frampton Comes Alive is the one you need to listen to. One of the best live songs ever
he did great with Humble Pie too 1969 -1971 Shine On and I Don't Need No Doctor

A true masterpiece! Thank you 😘
I am so happy you gave this a chance
One of the best known albums of all of rock and roll, "Frampton Comes Alive".
Saw this concert! They don’t play them like this anymore.
His first band was called Humble Pie. Try "30 days in the hole" excellent tune!
Peter Frampton is probably the guitarist most closely linked with the talk box - he even sold his own for a while under the brand "Framptone" with a couple of other pedals.
In 76 this man was absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This was the must Album to own when it came out! Frampton is a master, a legend! This and other songs will on forever!
This song was absolutely huge when it came out!! It was the long live version that was on the radio. Which at that time it was pretty unheard of to play that long of a song and it to be live on top of that! Always brings back memories of my college days.
He uses the guitar as his vocal cords. This is super early in voice box type technology, so everyone is waiting to see how he "makes his guitar talk".
Old Gibson Black Beauty.
He sounds like my hero Roger Troutman. Roger used it on a guitar early on, but mostly crushed it on the keyboards.
This is another song that brings up memories of my father. He had the album ‘Frampton Comes Alive’, and I remember him playing this song for me. I stayed up to watch this! 😁 I was little.
Frampton played for Humble Pie before. Check him out on Humble pie's "I don't need no doctor" live at the Fillmore
Great reaction dude 😆
Another legendary Rocker that loves the talk box is Joe Walsh!
Check out Rocky Mountain Way.
He can solo his ass off cuz he can play what he thinks...maestro level.
I fell in love with him in 6th grade. Had the album and the T-shirt with his face on it and everything. ☺️.
And big poster in my bedroom!
You have got to listen to the album version of this from "Frampton Comes Alive" it will melt your face off and the audience is AMAZING!
Check out some songs from Frampton comes alive. He didn't really follow up with much but when it hit it was being played on all the radio stations.
I've been listening to Peter talk to me since I was a wee to LMAO 😂

The "Frampton Comes Alive" version is the version. This is a decent version.
Yep Jai Peter and Joe Walsh are known for the voice tube thing. Also, Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi uses it
Check out Edgar Winter "Frankenstein" for an epic live performance
That is indeed a Gibson and there's a great story about that guitar too.
What Peter is using is called a vocoder
The radio version was a LIVE version.
The best version is from the live album "Frampton Comes Alive"
