Made a wand this week for my girlfriend's birthday after inspiration from your video. Had an absolute blast making it and was probably one of the most rewarding projects I've done. TY for the video and keep them coming!
Immediately threw me five years back to my little wilde self making staffs in the woods with my little whittling knife and strings and rocks and feathers 💛
we used to make “bow n arrows” with bendy sticks and these long leaves like reeds and they actually worked a little like id would send the arrow a few metres which is impressive for a kids creation and the swords would be two sticks tied together in a swird shape
If you're planning on more dremel work, I'd recommend getting a dremel flex shaft. It allows you to hold the top more like a pen and give you better control
Very very impressive wands. I really like the second wand. Just a small suggestion, try and make them thinner. From my experience thin wands attract more attention, because it’s a bit difficult to make a thin wand. But other than that, your wands are absolutely FANTASTIC. The crystals are a really nice touch to them. Keep up the fantastic work.
Hi Martina, the wand looks fantastic, especially for a first time carve. Much better than anything I could do with wood, that's for sure. Wood is not my material. It doesn't like me! For the wood bark texture and colouring, maybe try adding some dark green, yellow ochre, umbers etc to give it a more "living" wood feel. When you look at tree bark in a forest, there's a fair few colours that make it "alive". A wand is a magical instrument, surely it should have some life. :) Well done again and I look forward to more videos from you guys!
Your happiness and excitement makes me gitty. Before you finished the video I was thinking I wonder if she will use gold leaf and you did. Keep up the amazing work xo
I see the finished design of the second one as something a Court Sorcerer would use, whereas the first one is more aligned towards a Field Mage, or, a spellcaster who is working primarily in the field rather than at the court of some nobleman. The inclusion of a blue crystal in the grip of the second wand is reminiscent of a sapphire, which is a decent enough binding crystal to channel magic through, but crystals are better used at the tip.
I am binge watching your channel as I handsew a baby blanket for someone, and I always end up watching what you are doing instead of actually sewing. What you do is very impressive and you have so many skills! This video is no exception and I really like the result!
Great video and nice job. They both turned out great, I love that you hadn't tried it before and just had a go. Amazing attitude to have towards projects but also life in general. New subscriber right here. \m/ *** WARNING *** Try this technique out. The use of fire is required so great care is to be taken. Make your wand, exactly the same as you did. But before any paint. Get a butane torch... And light her up... let it burn for about 5-10sec or so (well before the wood gets too charred and starts to split) Put the flames out, then give it a light sand down once it's cool. You'll find the charred woodgrain remains while the face of the timber gets lighter due to the sanding.. Saves you having to add a wash/darker paint to the recesses. Bonus part is, it looks amazing and really keeps a natural feel to it. Which would go great with these wands. All the best, look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
One tip I can give if you intend to nontinue woodcarving a bit more: when using a dremel, buying an extention (not for the power, googe it, I don't what to call it ^^') is sooooo worth it. It allows you to hold it in just one hand like a pen and have so much more control over what you are doing. It may cost a bit, though, but it is a good investement.
I started working on a wand with hand tools years ago and hardly got anywhere as I chose a very difficult wood to work with.... This inspires me to get back to it!
Aw Jonas is a badass friend to share hiz knowledge and tips, too many ppl act like they cant share their trade or skill... so I respect ppl that do share it so much.
Both came out looking great! I’ve gotten into whittling using traditional hand tools and it’s a ton of fun to make wands that way too. I can sit out in the woods and carve the branches I found with a pocket knife or my pocket whittling set, and each stick and type of wood carves and ends up looking completely different with its own personality. I especially love making wands for people out of the actual wood they received from Pottermore / Wizarding World which I find in nature.
I've been woodworking and carving for many years. Probably more than you've been alive. Lol. I have to say you did a wonderful job on these. Absolutely love your projects! You tickle me how you love your gold leaf....lol. It was perfect before the gold was added. It still came out amazing!!! 🥰
I love how excited you get when something goes right. It's how I feel when I create something that actually looks the way I imagined it, but I'm not brave enough to express myself that way.

I might suggest getting a good carving knife to rough out the shape after using the jig saw and scroll saw and then switching to the carving burs and sanding to finalize it. Just remember to carve away from any fingers and hands when using a carving knife. Also keeping the blade sharp will keep the knife working better and safer sense it requires less pressure when the blade is sharp when cutting. It would reduce the amount of sawdust to clean up later. Looks really good. Love your work and other projects I have watched you do.
Love how it turned out and I really want to try myself. For the colour and 3D effect maybe use a darker stain and dry brush a lighter colour on top to add highlights ^^
🌸 it’s gorgeous, especially knowing it’s your first attempt 💕💗💖✨ I’m blown away by your talent, you do have a brilliant artistic flare & an imagination to match I can’t wait to see what other carvings you do next in the future to compliment your other models
A bit of advice regarding getting dimensionality in your wands: use wood stains, and pay attention to what's rough and what's smooth. The smoother a thing is, the less stain it will take, meaning you can pretty much weather an entire piece with just a single pass of staining.
Looks great. I HIGHLY recommend getting a Dremel Flex Shaft Rotary Tool Attachment. It's much lighter and makes longer projects a whole lot less painful.
I have a suggestion, as far as dremels go, and that is that you might want to take a look at a dremel stylo. It uses a wall adapter for power, only goes to 22,000 RPMs but is smaller and easter to handle. It does use all of the fremel accessories that you have there. I was watching another woodworking video earlier and saw another way to get the grooves to be darker. That person used a dark stain on the whole project and then sanded the wood a bit to lighten the higher areas.
I actually have been making wands for years, and I've found poplar is a really good kind of wood to use that is cheap, also it carves pretty easily, it is kinda light weight, but I think it works well with being able to envision the wand as an extension of yourself. For some of the color on some of the wands I've done, I've used a thin wash of watercolor paint on it, and allow it to seep in and stain the wood, I've had a lot of luck with it, and you could use pretty cheap watercolors. Some good tools I use are also wood files, and carving knives, X-acto knives work really well. I've also done wood burning on them, but I've not yet managed any crystals, that bit intimidates me a little. At this point I've been making (good) wands since I was about 16, but I sold some of my first ones when I was 17, so I've been working on wands for about 6 years. Another nice thing about wands is that you can find some piece of wood outside and use it, just check for termite holes first. Best option is to cut from a living tree in my experience. Excellent first wands btw, very beautiful, and props for immediately setting a crystal into it!
That wand came out really well. I would suggest that if you plan on doing more in the future you might want to invest in a nice set of woodworking chisels as they can be quite valuable and added assets when carving. They come in various sizes and tip ends which aid in carving channels, angles, rounded inlays and the like. I'm sure that you would notice a night and day difference over the rough look from what the normal utility knife produces. I also own and use a nice surgical-grade scalpel, and have a large assortment of disposable blades which I prefer over the line of X-Acto products. Another tip is to make sure that all of your woodworking tools are sharp, properly sharpened as well, and I go through the extra step of Stropping all of my blades, which not only makes them Much sharper but allows them to stay sharper longer and we all know that there is nothing that makes a nice, decisive, and sharp cut and look into our wood like a sharp tool. All The Best Gang.
Thought your first one looked like a broom stick ( live it) ,for the first time ever carving wood that's brilliant. Your second wand is spectacular, nearly left me speechless. Xxx
Love all your work. Had to comment with perhaps an idea for the future. What if, when you make another wand, you create a little epoxy notch/droplet on the upper side of the wand and place a little LED behind it, (within the wand), so that it gives the effect of a point of light coming out of the end of the wand? Would make it even more awesome!
Someone may have suggested this already, but if you run a wire brush over the wood it'll dig out the softer wood between the grain and give a really nice textured aged look to the wood.
And here I am...just going out in my grandmother's backyard which is technically part of the local forest...to get my small scale DIY materials... I can get Oak, Maple, Birch, several varieties of Pine and Spruce...Walnut, and others...if I get a winter kill branch, all the better as those are usually nice and dry, but also dense...and because they're winter kills, they tend to stay in the tree until some sort of weather event a few years later exceeds the remaining integrity of the connection point...which means these are well cured branches more often than not...so long as they're not left too long after said event...
That is a cool wand making video, very nice work. If you make another one, you could make the Gem glow in the handle or tip, from a mini LED under it and a couple AA batteries in the wand handle.
I love the "barking" of the last wand, but it really needs some slow pulsing LEDs under the crystal to look really cool. Besides it may be time to think about a turning lathe to broaden your wood and metalforming skills!
I just found your channel and it’s like your a modern day Harry Potter character making so many spell books. I’m very impressed, and a little tempted to become a magician.
Your handmade Wands looks so Beautiful, I especially love your concept art of the wands maybe each one of them will represent your Tombs, Sry Tome of Water your gonna have to wait your turn, once all the books are done will there be writings (magical spell writings) in your books pages that way to give them like they were all written by sorcery? keep up the great work Nerdforge. :)
Yeah those sanding drums have a lifespan of lile 30 seconds. What i found is that using rasps/ files for the rough shapes is a lot quicker and easier. To add, i found a slower rpm on the dremel helps with not using up the drums quite as quickly
Really nice project! I definetly wanna try using the colours you use to paint the wood. I use 6-10mm wooden rods and a dremel wich makes the first carving process a lot easier than making it from an entire block. The grips I mould and carve out of fimo polymer clay. It allows for very creative designs and since it’s a little heavier than the wood, it gives the wand a nice comfortable weight transition towards the hand.
I think the place you added the gold is the best! If it was anywhere else it would not look as good. I wished the crystal is larger or more of it is showing. But hay! Thats a very good start! I have a nice thick and tall branch that i'm keeping to make a walking stick out of with a similar idea, i want to try intwine some thinner branches on the top and add in a large crystal. Hopefully it works
Cool tip: if you wanna try something cool with your resin crafts, try filling the mould 1/4 the way and then add a drop of alcohol ink or resin dye, then fill the rest of the way. It gives a really cool swirl effect and looks pretty cool too. From one resin worker to another
I keep think what it could look like with a bit of light under the crystal or if there where cracks with like a cavern of crystals. Then there could be uv paint or resin crystals to give it a glow. But i love what you did!!
Those are awesome!!! If we been in search of a video that uses real wood carving and crystals. My first wand is not impressive now I know how to redo it. !!!! Thanks for your videos!!!
Bass wood is also a good starting point for carving. Harder than balsa (which is like carving foam with a grain), but hard enough to hold its shape through years of your average bumping-around on a shelf.
Your first wand looks great! I really like the epoxy crystal in the handle. Little tip for wands try making the handle more thin, not to much but just a little bit because most people dont have big hands and smaller things sit more comfortably in your hand. Nevertheless you did an awesome job just keep at it woodworking is fun and easy. As your next project try making a kuksa youll like the proces and youll be able to use it.
Hey, you should really consider wearing protection glasses when using those resin pumps. My brother once used exactly such a pump and it was clogged a little. The resin came out in an explosion and he got something in the eye. It burned like hell and the doctor said he can be glad that he was wearing contact lenses which protected most of his eye, especially the iris. Especially the hardener part can be extremely aggressive to the eye
My 2 favorite UA-camrs coming together to make an epic idea come to life?!?!?!?!? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I'm so excited! Thank you for doing this collaboration! 💖💖💖💖💖
2 suggestions for your next wand: First, use fire. You can take a torch and lightly burn the wood to make it pop in AMAZING ways Second, look up how to bend wood. It is possible to bend the wood around a stone and make it look like the wood grew around it. This does take practice and you should do some test pieces first. I think you would love the effect.
I highly recommend the professional series x-acto knives. They can be kind of dangerous but they come in dozens of shapes and sizes and work exceptionally well for wood carving. I use them for carving native american style flutes, bows and arrows, and knife handles. I also use them to carve wax for investment casting.
Thanks for the mention in the video! I dig the design. very cool to see that you combined the woodcarving with the epoxy crystal and the silver paint.
PS: i would hate to meet the wizard wielding that wand, looks way to powerful to deal with!

You are super talented! I was skeptical of the gold leaf, but it really works. Now to incorporate LEDs into wands to make the magic pop
Now this is what I do! I love carving wood! ❣️ I think once you get used to it all, you'll love it!
I'm Brazilian
I like so much your videos
They help me to learn vocabulary and understand better the English.
Thanks so much
Ps: I'm just 15 years old
Time to step it up a notch!! make one with an LED lit crystal!
Great job! I love my Dremel. Sculpting wood is so satisfying.
I just found your channel and it’s like your a modern day Harry Potter character making so many spell books. I’m very impressed, and a little tempted to become a magician.
It was so satisfying to see another artist process of learning!
Very cool, I just started woodworking and I am enjoying it. Lots to learn and great for my racing mind. Maybe I'll try to make a wand.
I'm more of a staff user but dang those are some nice wands
Yeah those sanding drums have a lifespan of lile 30 seconds. What i found is that using rasps/ files for the rough shapes is a lot quicker and easier.
To add, i found a slower rpm on the dremel helps with not using up the drums quite as quickly
I'm at work and can't watch the video properly but I know it will be noice so I already liked it and will watch it later ✨
can you make a series about wooden wands ???
i think i'm in love with these
I'm so glad you added the gold leaf it looks amazing!
All that time and effort into creating such a beautiful wand, it would look and feel so much better with a real crystal in it.
Nerd forge and Jonas Olsen together, oh hell yeah
Cool tip: if you wanna try something cool with your resin crafts, try filling the mould 1/4 the way and then add a drop of alcohol ink or resin dye, then fill the rest of the way. It gives a really cool swirl effect and looks pretty cool too. From one resin worker to another

Did the phone just move on its own? Wow magic
it probably vibrated from a message xD
Omg the wand looks soo good. You did a fantastic job
2:46 always good when making something! great work!
I think it'd be really cool if you tried making a lyre harp with runes engraved into it and filled with glowing resin to look magical.
Hey girl, I'm just starting to watch, but a tip: balsa wood. Search for it... You're going to LOVE it!
Bass wood is also a good starting point for carving. Harder than balsa (which is like carving foam with a grain), but hard enough to hold its shape through years of your average bumping-around on a shelf.
@@Dosbomber Very well thought! 😊
It's what my mother used to use. She did a TON of wood carving when I was a kid.
Those turned out so awesome looking!! I'd love to try woodworking some day!
My 2 favorite UA-camrs coming together to make an epic idea come to life?!?!?!?!? 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I'm so excited! Thank you for doing this collaboration! 💖💖💖💖💖
2 suggestions for your next wand:
First, use fire. You can take a torch and lightly burn the wood to make it pop in AMAZING ways
Second, look up how to bend wood. It is possible to bend the wood around a stone and make it look like the wood grew around it. This does take practice and you should do some test pieces first. I think you would love the effect.
Always got a kick out of being in Scandinavia and seeing a store called Bauhaus. I think I first saw them in Iceland. Good times.
My cat use to do that when she was younger. I love your wands.
I highly recommend the professional series x-acto knives. They can be kind of dangerous but they come in dozens of shapes and sizes and work exceptionally well for wood carving. I use them for carving native american style flutes, bows and arrows, and knife handles. I also use them to carve wax for investment casting.
