Just a tip here that's worth noting about the bronze armour: If you are using a bow and kiting around consider equipping instead the Troll Hide Armour. This is true of any fight where kiting is possible. Bronze armour slows your movement speed. The point of kiting is to stay at range and avoid getting hit. The last thing you need is a movement penalty. That 10% may not seem much but it's significant. You especially notice this when out of stamina so trying to get some distance between you and a mob. It WILL catch you if attempting to flee the scene in Bronze gear.
@@sovietsid9452 - Literally doesn't matter man. Just use the Eikthyr power which gives you more jump and run speed. If it's your first Elder fight, you'll most probably have this power equipped.
Love watching these after I have already fought the boss just to see how much easier of a time I would have had. I was doing fine in a 1v1 with it until a horde of greydwarf's and a troll showed up. Was pretty much running around shooting the occasional arrow at the elder until it died for about 1/3rd of the battle at the end.
Quick note: the greydwarf spawners are susceptible to fire, so using fire arrows from a distance is an easy way to destroy the spawners BEFORE you start fighting the creatures. There's a rune stone that mentions this, I believe.
@@exemida I've played over 450 hours and I don't think I've ever seen a 2 star brute. 1 star, sure, plenty of times. Also find that fire arrows work well. Or parry, attack, parry, attack, etc. Can't attack more than 1 without getting hit back though.

If you want to travel into the wind on the raft, pull up the sail and use the rudder exclusively which happens automatically, you just have to steer left and right. The rudder becomes like a paddle to propel you. The place where you see the sail icon is replaced with a picture of a rudder being rocked left and right. So it's essentially like an oar.
Zig-zagging to catch the wind while sailing is called tacking. I was pretty excited to see that this was a thing in game, as this is how real-world sailing works. I grew up on a lake that was PERFECT for sailing to the south-east. 10 minutes to go four miles or so. And then the rest of the day to get back home.
No need for the fires or anything like that, and honestly a bow isn't necessary and slows down an already long fight. You do want to fight him at the summon spot. Make sure you get behind a pillar until he comes to you after being summoned. Get close so he stomps, dodge the stomp, then get in some hits depending on how much stamina you have left. I suggest using a bronze sword. As soon as he summons the roots, (wait until they actually appear as they are proximity based so if you run right away, you'll bring them with you) run to the pillar across from you. Hide there until he comes over your way (destroying all the roots in the process), then run out, dodge the initial stomp, get in your swings, rinse and repeat. Super easy method. I literally just tested it before posting this so I know it works and he still behaves this way. Unless a root gets in a lucky swing, you shouldn't even take any damage this way. I was only hit twice, both of which were lucky root swings and didn't do much at all. Happy Hunting!
When I killed him I just moved pillar to pillar. Roots never touched me as I moved when he summoned them.. and his vines got blocked by the pillar. Never got close enough to stomp me.. works well assuming you want to use range.
When sailing, going down to 1 chevron brings up an oar icon in the top right, meaning you are rowing. Especially with the raft, rowing straight is faster than tacking back and forth if you don't have the wind. You can also row backwards, this can be useful for docking or avoiding rocks
At least with the raft, which I only used on pretty short distances (visible distances)-- the speed difference just didn't seem significant enough to justify adding distance over shorter spans. I got a really terrible spawn, my first boss was several islands away. I haven't had to do as much sailing with the karve or longship yet, so they may well be different!
The raft is absolute ass. Better to mine some copper and tin to make bronze nails so you can build the Karve. You will also need the bronze axe and chop down birch and/or oak to get fine wood.
I actually thought one of his abilities was to summon Greydwarfs and Greylings and Shamans and stuff as minions, because when I played it I had a growing wave of like 100 of them chasing me through every corner. OG soulsborn vets: Parries aren't animation based in this game. They are click based. You can have your shield up and tap block as the attack hits. You can do this to multiple attacks in less than a second if you can keep all of them in mind. Roll dodging is OP in this game. There are plenty of invincibility frames and you can even roll dodge through shaman poison cone. If you are a dark souls vet, you are a fucking god in this game.
When me and my 3 friends tried this, we got him to a quarter HP and then he spam summoned trolls and greylings, we had about 3 trolls and 30 greydwarfs chasing us around so we had to retreat.
@@rolanddelasse8585 really the best is just use the pillars, especially if you are solo or with a group that are around the same tech as you are. It's not that bad really, I feel the 3rd boss is much harder than this one. Just need to focus much on ranged then melee. Fire arrows work in a way, but again, if it rains ( half the time it does in my seed) it won't be as effective as you want it to be. Take your time fighting the boss and watch your surroundings. In fact, use the hoe to clear the area and make sure u have a running track around the pillars. Craft a work bench with the necessary cover to help with repairs for a lengthy battle. Hell, in a pinch, you can use wood arrows just so you can finish him off. This tip can be used for all the bosses in the game, I find that it's how you want to approach the fights that matter.
@@RaZeyLWindBladE I fought him with 2 friends and won yesterday, pretty easy as long as you're covered by pillars. Scared about the third boss though lol

I got lucky, one of my Elder altars was on an island separated only by a river to my starting island, which is great because I suck at sailing. I just walked all the way there, swam across the river and then set up a portal nearby for easy return for when I died, which I did... 2 times; once by a Troll who invited himself to the party, and once by the Elder itself.)
A note on sailing, the first speed is paddling using the tiller and rudder. You can "sail" into a head wind with this, but on the raft it is so god awful slow. I mean honestly skip the raft entirely, its to slow even with a tail wind and full sail. Really shouldn't be leaving your island before "bronze age" anyways. So just wait and make the Karve as it is massively better than the raft. Its speed is much better even in a head wind and has 4 cargo slots. HP wise the karve was at about 1/2 HP after taking 3-4 attacks from a sea serpent and a little storm dmg.
@@lemon_boy5246 I found it but every time i go to mine copper, i get attacked by 6 or more greydwarf's. They seem to show up in droves. They just spawn in wherever i am not looking. Pita
This is so ridiculous. If you just stay back and shoot him he won't really approach...especially if there's water between you. He has 3 attacks, but if you kite the vine thing is the only one that matters. Just hide being the pillars and you'll avoid all damage. Also, it's usually easy to get him near a crypt/troll cave, which are both surrounded by indestructible rocks...you can hide and shoot from there as well.
Thanks for doing the legit way I summoned him thinking I'd own him since the deer was so easy and died after getting caught by the ranged attack he was still there when I went to get my stuff 😳
"one is an exploit, the other is legit" In times of rage and anger, an exploit fight is just as serotonin as a legit fight, fact that's how i killed most the trolls i come across, exploiting the terrain.
Believe me, there are plenty of us console users who watch this even though it’s currently only PC. If it’s successful, they may consider porting it in the future. 👍🏻
So I tried to cheese him...let me tell you how my night went.. 1) Setup the camp fires, took out a nearby spawner 2) summoned boss 3) it rained 4) made hole too big 5) several level 2 greydwarves came to investigate during fight 6) they dropped into the hole with me 7) killed me underground during boss fight 8) proceeded to go around and wreck all my campfires while boss was rampaging
You can also find Burial Chambers in the Black Forest that seem inaccessible because the entrance is covered over by stones. Just use the bronze axe to clear the entrance then go in. I'm not sure if you can get into all the underground burial chambers with obstructed by stone as I've only found one of them blocked this way.
When my father and I fought the Elder Boss, I just made a big hole for no reason. And for some reason, The Elder Boss was just in one specific place just chilling. He wouldn't go to us cause we were behind the hole we made. So he was just there. He didn't really move for most of the time. So, it was surprisingly pretty easy. We did go closer and closer. But he was just going forwards and backward at the same spot. We do not really know if the hole was the reason or if the boss was just bugged, glitched, or stuck.
Two additional DATA be careful: - at easy mode kill if you don't dig ENOUGH DEEPLY under the stone... he can actually reach you with his feet stumpings and damage you - he actually CAN summon these naughty agressive roots IN YOUR DUG OUT HOLE, next to you... well at least one or two... Personally tested. :)

Don’t know if anyone has told you yet but if you craft bronze nails it gives your the recipe for the next ship. Much faster and better maneuverability
Thank you!! I needed the easy way I suck at boss fights 😅
Everyone's a gangster until the moment you summon the boss... it storms. Bye bye campfires. 😅😏
GOOD POINT !!
Oh shit so this technique cannot be used anymore?
@@rolanddelasse8585 Bonemass is a mess. Had to fight him 3 times before being able to get him down.
you can get scrap iron from the black forest dungeons by using a pick axe on the walls apparently. then you can smelt the scrap iron into ingots.
As far as I know you can only get iron as early as the swamps which you need the key from this boss to open.
This game is so cool and it also have a great potential!
The back and forth movement to keep the wind in your sails is called "tacking".
OMG you look like Eivor from Assassins Creed valhala!
I was in the black forest close to my spawn and all my different camps and goods. In a crypt in the black forest it showed me where the elder boss is. clear across like 3 oceans and the entire map. I havent even made a smelter yet. smh.
Karve, coastline sailing, and some hope will get you where you need to go
All mosquitoes are is block their attack and one hit them with anything above a tier one bronze sword lmfao
@@Elite02k you cant block 100 dmg with bronze stuff lmao
@@dhisanamincheri4830 I didn't say you could. If you have a bronze buckler and full bronze with halfway decent food, you'll live long enough to heal if you block their attack. You'll still take damage, but they wont kill you if you atleast block on food.
Why do mosquitos hit so hard?
I MISS Skyrim videos 🙃. Really missed them
Your not alone
Thanks for the upload my dude
I got lucky, one of my Elder altars was on an island separated only by a river to my starting island, which is great because I suck at sailing. I just walked all the way there, swam across the river and then set up a portal nearby for easy return for when I died, which I did... 2 times; once by a Troll who invited himself to the party, and once by the Elder itself.)
Great vids thank you @ESO. Subbed.
HP wise the karve was at about 1/2 HP after taking 3-4 attacks from a sea serpent and a little storm dmg.
great video, keep up the great work
"How to get fine wood"
I rammed birch trees into the "fine wood" tree.... "too hard" tree can get fucked.
Bronze axe
Here we see someone who can’t find dark forest
@@lemon_boy5246 I found it but every time i go to mine copper, i get attacked by 6 or more greydwarf's. They seem to show up in droves. They just spawn in wherever i am not looking. Pita
@@bsherder get a spear and shield wipe them all in two seconds
@@lemon_boy5246 Doing it at night was my mistake. Once i started doing it only during day time it wasn't so bad.
This is so ridiculous. If you just stay back and shoot him he won't really approach...especially if there's water between you. He has 3 attacks, but if you kite the vine thing is the only one that matters. Just hide being the pillars and you'll avoid all damage. Also, it's usually easy to get him near a crypt/troll cave, which are both surrounded by indestructible rocks...you can hide and shoot from there as well.
you can kill bonemass almost the same way by building in a tree and using frost arrows
Haha gotta love this gane for how creative you can be. We even discussed doing this in our boss run live stream a few days ago!
i remmeber that im pretty sure the guy that made it stole it from you LOL
Troll armor is less strong than bronze but it doesn’t make you slower (4pieces extra sneaky) also really easy to kill with bow
Thanks for doing the legit way I summoned him thinking I'd own him since the deer was so easy and died after getting caught by the ranged attack he was still there when I went to get my stuff 😳
ESO looks like the valheim character - respect 👍😃awesome vid - subbed 👍☺️is it me or is valheim the best game ever?
Build a big wooden structure or two near (just other side) the columns. The Elder boss then spends a lot of time attacking THEM, rather than YOU.
Thanks for that cheezy method, I love me some stress free bossing.
WOW!! how cool is that
"one is an exploit, the other is legit" In times of rage and anger, an exploit fight is just as serotonin as a legit fight, fact that's how i killed most the trolls i come across, exploiting the terrain.
i like a game where thinking and preparation count.
Thanks this helped a lot
3:30 +1 to letting the creeps run into each other.
My God man I'm not even a PC player I love your videos very good
Believe me, there are plenty of us console users who watch this even though it’s currently only PC. If it’s successful, they may consider porting it in the future. 👍🏻
Great video as always!
So I tried to cheese him...let me tell you how my night went..
1) Setup the camp fires, took out a nearby spawner
2) summoned boss
3) it rained
4) made hole too big
5) several level 2 greydwarves came to investigate during fight
6) they dropped into the hole with me
7) killed me underground during boss fight
8) proceeded to go around and wreck all my campfires while boss was rampaging
You can also find Burial Chambers in the Black Forest that seem inaccessible because the entrance is covered over by stones. Just use the bronze axe to clear the entrance then go in. I'm not sure if you can get into all the underground burial chambers with obstructed by stone as I've only found one of them blocked this way.
u are big help great work:)
i find the cheese method to be actually even more fun than the real method cause it takes alot of set up to do like building a watchtower on eikthyr
real vikings kill the Elder with leather armour, a flint axe, and a crude bow
I tried that yesterday... got him to one shot left and the shamans kept healing him :( eventually my bow broke and I got rekt

You explain well. Ty
Just fought this boss somehow found the altar before finding one of the tablets that tells you were it is haha
Nice tips!
Useful pieces of advice´!
I was on my way to kill him and was hoping for a water monster, so I go into the ocean and a serpent destroyed me and my poor raft.
So what happened to all your equipment? Were you able to retrieve them?
@@kroove Yea, managed to get close enough to land before it happened.
its patched the roots can get you underground now
Thanks I needed to know this
Yes thank you, very frustrating i kept thinking I was going it wrong.
And he destroyed the fire r
You can navigate your raft against the wind, but very very slowly. Your viking paddles using the rudder.
Captain No Skill over here thanks you
Thank you much! Happy hunting!
Two additional DATA be careful:
- at easy mode kill if you don't dig ENOUGH DEEPLY under the stone... he can actually reach you with his feet stumpings and damage you
- he actually CAN summon these naughty agressive roots IN YOUR DUG OUT HOLE, next to you... well at least one or two...
Personally tested. :)
