I don’t have a “type” for men, but boy do I have a type when it comes to lipsticks. And so do you, it appears. 😉 This was such a treat to watch! I have to admit to feeling slightly diabolical at chuckling through some of your agony. I’ve been there! Isn’t it hilarious how departing with certain lipsticks feels so tough? The choices you made were so informative for us but also left you with a beautiful lip collection! The swatch party at the end was so much fun. (I’m also glad I picked the correct side on Instagram 😉). I loved seeing the graduation of colours. Out of all of the lip products you talked about, you now have me very curious about Linnet Stone from Gucci. Your evil chuckle when deciding to remove the Gucci lip balm from your organizer to your purse was everything. Sounds like your mum is going to be receiving a few nice products from this, too! Thanks for the fun video, Stephanie! I’m so excited to watch your future declutters! 💕
I'm the same way. My dating history is also more varied than my favorite shades of lipstick. 😂 The fact that you can relate to my agonized decision-making is comforting. I'm glad I'm not alone in my silliness! You have a good eye - not everyone was able to pick the correct side. Yes, my mom has already laid claim to most of the lipsticks. 😂 Thanks for watching such a long declutter! It's always a joy to hear your responses, Brittany! ❤
It's so funny to see what someone else has is their collection...Prior to my decluttering, almost every shade I had was a variation on that Tom Ford one you have (but I never had that one!). I probably had 20 to 25 in total (my arm looked like yours but in shades of pinky mauvy neutrals). I did the head to head comparison between similar shades and textures, narrowing them down to reds, corals/ peaches, MLBB (my lips...)(pink & mauve) and neutrals. While some looked different when I swatched them, I found that many looked exactly the same on my lips so I kept the formula I liked better or the delivery system that was easier to use. Now I have 1 liquid lip (mauve), 1 lip oil (sheer purply brown), 1 gloss (CT mauve), 1 balm (my neutral) and 8 more traditional lipsticks -- 3 reds (so much variet), 1 orange, one pinky-peach, 1 medium pink, a rose, and a mauve. I tried doing that with blushes because they were all mauve shades but I couldn't part with any becaue they were different textures or finishes. Now anything new has to dethrone one of my favorites.
I've watched a lot of cosmetic collection and declutter videos, and it seems like many of us have our favorites. You're smart for doing the head-to-head comparisons and just keeping your favorite of each one. That's what I'm eventually working towards. But I'm still too obsessed with finishes, textures, and skin feel to part with my similar shades just yet. Although in certain categories, I'm sure I'll be able to be much more cut-throat. Color cosmetics are hard for me to part with though - it sounds like you might know the feeling based on what you said about your blushes! ;-) It's so lovely to hear from you! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
You can smell/taste when a lipstick has gone off, pretty much immediately, and mostly because the oils in there have gone rancid. I had to part with a lot of my UD Vice lipsticks recently (to be fair I had them since 2015/16).
That is very true. I’ve definitely had to toss lipsticks that had clearly gone off. I’m sure some of mine will go off again in the future, but now that I’ve stopped over-purchasing them, I won’t feel so bad when it happens.
Haha. I have space but personally like them separated just because all of my ‘tinted’ balms are in tubes. Plus it makes it easier to reach for them, i just have them in 2 jars on my work desk.
This is funny how a decluttering video want me to buy lipsticks!!! In fact you swatched a lot of shades that were on my wishlist and helped me know they were going to stay in a corner of my vanity
OMG😍 I've been waiting for a declutter from you 🥰 Love that you made it a long video, and didn't rush through it. And the lipstick case is beautiful!! And I think you made some really good desicions too. It sounds to me like you actually use all of these lipsticks. I tend to grab for the same ones over and over..
I'm glad you didn't mind a long video! Yes... the fact that I love using all these different options makes me a maximalist at the moment. But I've definitely gone through phases of my life where I only owned (and was completely happy with) just one lipstick at a time. There's nothing wrong with just using one favorite shade over and over again. It's always lovely to hear from you, Åshild! ❤
Glad I remembered to come back and finish this video! The end was extremely satisfying to see the keeps and declutters. Very motivating. Always a pleasure to watch your videos Stephanie! 🫶🏻
I was yelling at my screen “Just put 2 in your purse so you can keep the ones that are so hard to lose!” And you did that for one at least! 😂😂😂😂 Great minds think alike! 😬
Hahaha! I was also yelling at my screen during editing - I'm glad I'm not the only one. 😂 And I've actually already made two exchanges from my "time will tell" box - so the number of keepers has remained, but the colors have been adjusted. 😉 It's always lovely to hear from you, Lisa!
The lipstick case is so pretty. My version of this is a lipstick tower I’ve had for ages. It holds around 100 and while in the past I’ve probably gotten very close to filling it up, these days my collection sits around 50-60 and that includes the tinted balms that live separately lol. Every so often i look around to find something smaller but haven’t found a format i like
It took me a while to find a storage solution that I liked. I've used it for years, but this is the first time that all of my bullet lipsticks fit inside of it. I'm hoping that having my entire collection presented in such a pretty way will be a constant reminder to enjoy all the pretty things inside. It sounds like you have a great lippie collection!
@@TheStyleStumbler i had so much space on the sides of mine that i decided to put my lipliners there to see how that works. Prior i had a clear pen organizer that was shared with the eyeliners. If I don't find anything else that i like, i kinda don't mind it being more empty than not, its space to grow with a reminder not to go over it haha. I did purchase a 'box' open organizer to put on top a while ago because the Lisa eldridge glosses were so hard to store. But i ended up decluttering most of them anyway as its not my favorite formula.
If you're digging through coat pockets, that's a deep dive to find everything. I like your strategy of get everything out and starting with obvious eliminations. I always see that as defining the edges for the reorganize. Having the empty container that you want to be the main storage receptacle clean and empty is something I like doing so my brain can Tetris things out in the moment so I don't get bogged down on spacial awareness issues. It also helps with some of the back and forth of decision making. I find it interesting to see the different packaging styles. There's more of a range than I would have realized. And I can also see the color change from when you just uncap each one to swatching it. I also get a sense of the formula. The subtle variations in color and finish/texture? really show themselves side by side. The challenge and the temptation to keep things you keep running into is the heart of the project. The tough decisions you have to make are what will give you a collection at the end that is the best of the best. The decision-making process you go through is interesting to watch. The back and forth, multiple comparisons is how an answer gets found. Part of the challenge is finding the best way to question a product. Whether it's usage, formula, feel, etc there should be an aspect that stands out to help you come to a decision. And if ever it feels like things are moving to fast you can also pause to clear your head and come back to it. Not that I'm guessing on the age of the liquid lipsticks, but the packaging has early 2000s-2010 Hot Topic inspired look to my eye. That's quite the rainbow of colors after your swatch parties. 🤣 Just as a technical thing, I notice the camera on the overhead shots is a bit jittery like it was having trouble focusing at times. Knowing how particular I've been in the past and struggles I've had decluttering my closet and trimming down my movie and book collections, I can see your thought process and have an appreciation for what you went through in the making of this video.
Exactly! Tetris is what came to my mind, too. 😂 Yes - the packaging varies greatly for sure. And I don't even have a lot of the variations out on the market. Some lipsticks have buttons to press to release the lipsticks, others look like sculptures... companies have definitely gotten creative over the years. I was surprised at how difficult it was to let go of things. And four days after the declutter, I ended up exchanging two of my choices. So the number of keepers has remained the same, but I ended up digging into that "time will tell box" pretty quickly. I'm so glad I gave myself that option. Balancing the hard limit of the container with the soft option of the "time will tell" box was smart for someone like me. In a couple of weeks I think I will have settled on a collection I really am completely happy with. I already feel so much closer. I think those liquid lipsticks are from 2017 or 2018, but I can't say for sure. I'm still debating whether I should get rid of the two that I kept and just purchase a new one when (or if) it becomes necessary. And the Hot Topic look is pretty close. The brand was created by a goth tattoo artist. Yeah... my camera is really old and increasingly struggles to maintain focus. I've had to re-do videos because of its issues. I've sent it in for repairs before, but that's actually more expensive than buying a new camera. At some point I'm going to have to upgrade, but I'd like to wait as long as possible. I hope you'll let me know if it gets too bad. As for the shaking, I was trying out a different tripod and haven't quite figured out the kinks yet. Thanks for all the feedback - you've definitely helped me improve my quality throughout the years! And thanks for always hanging out in general. It's always lovely to hear your reactions in the comments, Zach!
@TheStyleStumbler it's good that you have that time will tell box. I learned it's importance the hard way by getting rid of some things too quickly. And it's part of the process to go into and swap things out. Being designed by a goth tattoo artist makes sense for those two liquid products🤣🤣 I'll of course be sure to mention any technical things I see as I might be your only followers who would pick up on some of them. The thought popped in my head as I was watching this. I don't remember who, but there was a comedian who had a bit that described the differences between how men and women see things with the crayon analogy. They said men were largely the 8 count box you get in kindergarten and just scribble all over. Women are the 256 count box with the built in sharpener and take time to do all this fine detail work. I feel in part from watching your videos, I've expanded beyond the 8 count box.
I feel like that "time will tell box" is saving me from myself and making me a whole lot more relaxed about the whole process. Thanks for the assistance! Then they dive right into the details like a kid playing in a pile of leaves. I have a feeling you might be that way about history. My knowledge of that topic is quite general. You, on the other hand, seem to have much more in-depth and detailed knowledge of the past.
@TheStyleStumbler I've thought about it before, but I don't what sparked my general interest in history. I know as a kid, I always wanted to learn, and even at a young age, I understood that there was a lot that happened prior to my existing. As I got older and was able to see different parts of the world my appreciation for learning history grew. It became my course of study in college by accident. When I went back to school, I just ended up picking history courses to fill out the course load. Only when I finished community college and went to a university to finish my undergrad did I really decide on studying history. My thinking is that to chart the best course forward, you need to understand how we got to here. Proper context and analogies can be drawn when the how's and why's of the past are understood. And I think it's also just a personality thing too. I used to joke that in a past life, I was the grumpy scribe or monk in the part of the castle no one would visit unless they needed counsel. But don't touch my scrolls, they're organized just how I like them. 😂

I usually include links to everything in my description, too, if you're ever wondering.
I'm guessing the only things most guys declutter is the beer out of the fridge. Guessing.....😅
I don't know... my uncle was pretty stylish. I'm sure he had his share of closet declutters to maintain such a chic wardrobe. But then again, he drank whiskey. ;-)
@@TheStyleStumbler Yes, a whiskey declutter also works 😃
@@tostoday haha!
your voice is so beautiful😊
Thank you for taking a moment to leave such a kind compliment! 😊
what was the chanel shade that you decluttered?
It was the Rouge Coco Shine formula in shade 67 (Deauville).
As a cool toned girl this was rough to watch 😭😂
I can imagine! 😂
The shade made in China😂😂
Best. Shade name. Ever. 😂
ah yes, peak consumerism
I think you may have missed the entire point of my channel. But if this is the only video of mine you've ever seen, then I suppose I can understand why you'd say that.
