👀 This was such a joy to watch! I’ve been enjoying it on and off all day! What a treat!! And I love that you have your mom to declutter to! Sometimes it’s easier to declutter beautiful things when we know how much joy it might bring a specific person! Thank you for taking us along for the journey! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
You're right! It really is so much easier to declutter beautiful things when we know who they're going to. Especially when we know how much they'll suit the new owner. Thanks so much for coming along for the ride, Kyra! It's always lovely to hear from you. 💛
Man, that was a process, and I loved every minute of it🥰 That palette you made for your mom is like my dream palette😄 And yes! I would love a round 3 of decluttering!
I am also in the process of decluttering my singles and it’s so hard because there are so many nuances! I have been swatching them all in color groups and it putting like colors together in a palette. Slowly I’m going through and making two different the looks to see if those nuances really show up when blended out. It turns out many of them really do show there magic on the eye while others are indistinguishable. It’s going to be a long process but I’m really enjoying playing with all my eyeshadows, and using colors like blue and yellow that I have as art supplies but rarely use!
That's so true - some colors that look identical in the pan look completely different in swatches and on the eye. And then there are other colors that look different in the pan but have a similar effect on the eye. I'll be playing with my singles for several weeks before making my decisions final for precisely that reason. And the same thing is happening to me! I'm using color again. It's the marvelous side effect of decluttering.
I am really having a hard time justifying getting rid of my past mistakes. But, I am realizing that they are taking away from using what I truly love!❤
I know what you mean! That's why this is my first major declutter. But I've realized: life is short, I only have one face, I'm going to use my favorites from now on. And I'm trying to view my past mistakes as learning experiences, learning those lessons, and moving the stuff out so I can move on. No point in keeping every reminder of my past self's mistakes to jeer at me. (But it also took several years to get to this point 😂)
👁️ i have had this video on whilst sorting, swatching and depotting my own collection. I woukd definitely watch a part three. I think your collection and your approach to it is really interesting. I agree single shadows are hard to declutter!
It's so nice to know that this video accompanied you as you sorted through your own collection, Catherine! Thanks for taking a moment to tell me. And yes: single eyeshadows are really tricky!
It’s taken me 3 separate sessions, but I finally made it to the end!! This was SO much fun! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who deliberates so soberly over these things!!! I love your mom’s trio that became a quad that became a quint…that became a 24 pan palette! 😂😂😂 My daughter and I are different undertones and we give things to each other like that all the time! This was a blast! I’m glad you filmed it!!! 💕💕💕💕
That‘s what I call DEDICATION! 😂 Thanks for watching all the way through. You are definitely not alone in your deliberations - you should see how much deliberation footage I edited out. 😂 It‘s so much fun being able to exchange makeup with someone who has different undertones. I‘ve gotten some of the best stuff when the undertone didn‘t work for someone else, so I‘m always happy when I can pay that joy forward, especially to someone as special as my mom. It must be so much fun to trade things with your daughter! It‘s lovely to hear from you, Lisa! 💕
This will be something. It's good to see that you're making use of the chopping block. And I'm sure doing stuff off camera makes it a bit easier to stay focused. If you want names for those Lethal Cosmetic palettes, might I suggest Bludgeoned by Beige, and Killer Klown? 😂😂 I'm surprised that 15 year old eye shadows would still be usable. I wonder if it's like how some people describe spices needing to be expeired long enough to reach their full flavor potential. Your big Visiart collection reminds me of a art supply thing I had as a kid that had markers, crayons, colored pencils, pastels, and some other things all in the same range of colors. I think rearranging it to go through it makes sense. It adds a layer of intention when you have to look at and consider each pan and not just move to it by muscle memory. In talking about being detail oriented, my thought would be if you are trying to build a palette from the singles are you always going to swatch out everything to spot the differences or are you going to go by the color in the pan? There is also being too spoiled for choice and that leading to decision fatigue because of too many options. Asking yourself lots of different questions as you review the shadows to get to a question that unlocks a level of comfort with de-cluttering things is smart. And the will you miss it when it's gone is a really good one to ask. I feel there can be a general tendency to leave some things in situ because they provide a sense of familiarity. But I also don't think there's necessarily active thought that recognizes them all the time and that's where the will I miss it? question comes in to say it's okay to let stuff go. There is something really interesting in watching your swatching and your process for going through this. It's almost like watching a painter work. I find it really relaxing. 👀👀 Pretty much all of my comments above are for the first 35 minutes of the video. I am happy to just watch you swatch and discuss. The swatches came through nicely on camera to show the tonal differences in the colors and some of the shifting in the light as you turned you hand. there were just a couple of times where you swatched and your hand wasn't in frame to see. I was surprised to see you still going back to some of your questions later on in the video and being able to make satisfactory decisions, hopefully without al lot of waffling after the fact. based on the run time of the video, I can only imagine how long it actually took. I like the erm, aah, i don't know, that's so pretty indecisiveness. It think it's cute and editing Stephanie can leave it in. I wouldn't mind seeing a round 3. You made a ton of progress in this video and hopefully you'll be gladdened by it once your not so tired from all the deliberating.
"Bludgeoned by Beige" might just be the most fitting (for me) palette name ever. 🤣 I am also surprised that the 15-year old shadows are usable. Powder products often last a long time, but every time I use them they still feel like new. (If they didn't, I would have been happy to declutter them.) Yes - sometimes rearranging things puts them into different perspective and makes them easier to compare. I did the same thing with my wardrobe during my declutter. There's definitely something to be said for muscle memory (and disrupting it). Yeah… when I build palettes I usually swatch everything out. It's almost like an act of meditation. But I don't always have time to do it - in those cases decision fatigue becomes a real factor. So thinning things out will make it easier. I still have the "time will tell" box on the off chance that I actually miss something. Just like my friend Mery said, "single shadows are like art supplies." So the fact that this reminded you of a painter working seems fitting. I'm glad you found it relaxing! Editing Stephanie was actually most frustrated with the clips where the swatching was out of frame. Filming Stephanie has been getting better at becoming aware of those things, but sometimes she's too involved in the process to remember to check the view finder. Yeah… this video took a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time to film and even longer to edit. I'm glad I was able to edit it down into some semblance of coherence. But part of me will be very happy to have these declutters behind me. Mostly Editing Stephanie. 🤣 Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end, Zach! It's always a pleasure to hear from you.
@TheStyleStumbler I saw the runtime when the notification popped up on my phone and was a bit surprised. But once you got into a flow, it was really relaxing, which was something that I sorely needed yesterday. And you seemed to find a groove after some initial struggles. It was interesting to see that happen. I gather Filming Stephanie had a lot of fun swatching everything, but many thanks must go to Editing Stephanie and the yeoman's work she put in one this one. ❤️💜💙🧡💚👏👏
Hahaha! All hail Editing Stephanie. 🤣 Yes, it was interesting to hit a rhythm. At first I was worried I wouldn't get very far. But I guess it's a classic example of perserverance paying off. ;-)
Eyeball emoji. Couldn't find it, but i enjoyed watching your video. I occasionally declutter have one pallete I've had since my teens that was a gift from my then pet 🐕 that I will not be parted from. I don't use it anymore but I keep it to sniff as it has a delicate violet scent and of course I'm a sentimental ol' thing. It would be getting on for 44 years old! Vintage yay! Looking forward to your other videos ❤
Some items have value that goes far beyond the "dirt" itself. It sounds like you have some happy memories associated with that gem, Verena. Wow: 44 years! And I thought my 15-year old eyeshadow was "ancient". But I suppose something only officially becomes vintage once it's at least 25. I have a feeling I'll have to force myself to stop using my oldest shadows by then, too. ;-)
Girl....15-year old eye shadow? I was yelling at my screen..."Get rid of it!"...lol. loved the video!! I can understand though. Those shadows were very pretty. ❤
Haha! I totally get it! But I disinfect them regularly and figure: if they still work like new, look great, and haven't grown legs to run away… 🤣 Maybe I should keep them in a separate container and try to find exact dupes so I can finally replace them.
@@TheStyleStumbler I had that Too Faced palette way back in the day. It was amazing. I love their shadows, but my eyes can't handle the coconut stuff they've added to their newer version of a neutral palette; it makes them water like crazy. But that whole collection of small Too Faced palettes in the cardboard packaging was my jam. I had almost every one (didn't have the smokey one).
@@ALM401 Hehehe, no, just very basic stuff that never dates. I used them at school so they had to be basic to escape notice! 😉 Using them these days is more of a sentimental nostalgic exercise than a regular thing, tbh, but I do still use them on special occasions! Oh the irony. My oldest makeup is what I use on special occasions 😂😂
I’m in the middle of decluttering my singles too. It’s definitely so much harder than palettes. They’re all so pretty! Plus they’re so small….. not like they’re taking up much space….. But I know in my heart I will enjoy a more curated collection
I think I underestimated the challenge. The fact that I'll need (at least) three rounds taught me that lesson. I like the idea that we're virtually curating our items together. It's fun to imagine that as I go through my declutters. :-)
I love a gunmetal look too. I actually finished an entire pan of Lethal Rise From The Ashes😂 I love seeing all the swatches and how you arranged the shades👀 So I'd totally be into a part 3.
Rise From The Ashes is great - I love how I can sheer it out and still see such a beautiful finish. How cool that you finished an entire pan of it! Thanks for letting me know, Pia! 💛

These are my favorite kinds of videos, thank you for all the time, care and hyper-procrastination that went into it 🤣. I admit I'm impatiently waiting for the palettes declutter....which I imagine will be many episodes long...big palettes, small palettes, quads/quints etc 😉. And you actually getting rid of VISEART shadows (!!!) shows me you're a real badass after all.
It's true! My brain was overloaded. Thank you so much for taking a moment to let me know that you enjoy these videos! Yes - the eyeshadow palettes will definitely have to be divided up into a couple of videos. I might be getting better at this whole decluttering thing, but I still get decision fatigue pretty quickly. 😉 I know! I was shocked at myself for parting with Viseart shadows!
