Turning a dead oak tree into a mountain bike jump with a cheap mill
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2020
- Muahaha! If you're one of those people who insist I buy the optimal tool for every job, you're really gonna hate this one. Today we use a $100 chainsaw and a $30 beam cutter attachment to mill oak into planks. And it works! Then we build a nice little kicker as a proof of concept. Enjoy!

I've been watching you since I was 7 and always wanted a mountain bike. Yesterday, my dad surprised me for my 13th birthday and got me a mountain bike. I've been riding it around my city and having the time of my life. Thanks for being a part of my life!

“Today, on This Old Trail...”
Seriously, watching things like this as a kid, plus helping my dad with projects is why working on things comes so naturally. It’s also why I geek out on tools. Keep this up. 👍
Bruh the nostalgia I just experienced reading that
So true
Sadly there is not enough flannel or beard on Seth's channel to match This Old House.
@@Harey0407 this old House or this old Tony?
M S I hope I’m as cool as This Old Tony when I grow up.
Let’s just appreciate how much Seth has progressed with his skill 👏🏼 and his house looks so beautiful in the snow to wow
I was 169 like lol
Ya
woodworking skills? cuz he was shredin since his trek 4900 days
Too not to and I was the 250th like
@@egcloutishbug10xboxgamer79 I was the 351 lmao i commit unsatisfying
Watch: one mountain bikey boi move log for 3 minutes
Me: Yes
Had me hooked
420 like’s lol
Seth: *takes whole day struggling on log*
THE NEXT DAY
His friends: so where’s the jump?
Seth: don’t even get me started..
lol
Your videos are creepy
Lol
His wife is like "why a ramp, I wanted a table!!!"
Seth: Mrs. Bike Hacks wants a table. Today, we're building a tabletop on Berm Peak
@@classydays43 haha Lmao
@@classydays43 LOL
Oh believe me, with Seth's "new" alaskan mill, he can make dozens of tabletops for Mrs. Bike Hacks.
@@classydays43 sry had to keep it at 69 likes
8:10 this is the best bunny hop I've seen from Seth. Mighty impressive, dude!
On his earlier videos he jumps up onto tables and stuff higher than this I believe.
8.06
The man can ride a bike
Seth: Contrary to popular belief, this is how to ride a ramp.
8:08 that's so impressive
I can barely clear 3 inches on a cross country bike which weighs half as much as his full suspension bike. Sure, I'm a "little bit" bigger than Seth (6'2") but this is mad hard. That's at least a foot, which is insane. I had to watch it like 10 times over in slow motion just to make sure lol
* 8:10
his bike probably ways like 30 or 40 pounds
*8:09 lol
I wonder how much physically stronger Seth has become since starting this project?
Who needs a gym membership with all that?
I would say 18.6% stronger. More if it were a gas chain saw.
He also became a Wizard... **hedwig theme plays**
also think he will live very long and healty. he rides his bike everyday
Next time try throwing some of those smaller logs under the big one as "wheels" and just roll it on out, moving the small logs from back to front as you go. Egyptian pyramid block style.
Came to the comments to say the exact same thing. 👍
I'm truly surprised that Seth didn't think of it.
Strap that hand truck to the log lengthwise and roll it over so wheels are down. You don't have to hold the handle of the truck that way. Just make sure your tires are solid or aired up.
In Seth's next video:
Making Stonehenge over my driveway out of dead trees and youtube comments
The pyramids were built by Aliens, duh! 😉🤣
You could’ve just got a giant crane and lifted it out with absolutely no environmental footprint
Most solid kicker ever. Nice milling work. Though watching you struggle with moving the log, you are fired from my pyramid building team! Rollers Seth , rollers!
pulleys.
@@micahl98 why not both?
Rollers and snatch blocks
The Egyptians did not use rollers. They slid it. They did not really know about wheels until later.
SNATCH BLOCK! *Destin intensifies*
The trails I ride: Oh cool, a feature!
Berm Peek: Oh cool, 5 feet of trail without a feature!
I read the title as “Turning a dead oak tree into a mountain bike” and I didnt see the rest. I was so confused
Kylo Ren I had the same confusion on the building a wooden bike jump video
Now I want to watch Seth make a mountain bike out of a dead oak tree. lol
I'm sure he will
Same
Lol, i saw a video of a guy making a wooden bike, it worked but wasnt great and took a lot of effort and a huge cnc machine
8:30 I was waiting for the run away dolly to knock over the camera haha.
"I saw this cheap mill on Wranglerstar..."
So begins Seth's Homestead Hacks channel
I laughed out loud to this
As a skateboarder, this is my favorite channel and I dont even mountain bike.
Shredding is shredding I think that's something we can all appreciate
@@dudeman9119 agreed
"We'll have the craziest feature we've built yet" im guessing its a airbag booter workbench with a built in taco making station

Of course
And a giant wooden sculpture of Drama
Cant forget the bike storage facility
It’s gonna be a 4km skinny that aligns your wheels while you ride it

Did you get those storms. My school had a tornado

@Luic Bruni yeah everybody knows that, and everybody knows that braap can be used universally.
Seth’s wife Where did that tree I love go?
Seth: What tree?
Speech marks
Lol
I think this is my favorite thing you've built so far. I love its character.
Seth is watching Wranglerstar?
Man thats awsome! I've been following both for quite some years now!
Mmm. Me too wranglerstar.....
Yessss
Same, both have some great content.
Wonder if wranglerstar watches seth?
I watched wranglestar until his review of a machete. Full of prejudice, stereotype and bad taste about genocide....careful Seth!
Is it me, or is Seths voice super-calming... it just chills me out every time I watch.
If he ever needed extra income to support mtb, he should narrate audiobooks.
nooranik21 Hahahaha you’re so right! And damn it I’d buy them!
Definitely want to see more of the saw mill and making the most out of what you’ve got.
It’s not just cost effective, but everything made has a special feeling and a story behind it.
I've been watching you for years! You inspire me to make a MTB trail in my backyard. And now all my parents see in the backyard is ramps. Thanks for inspiring me!
That thing is a work of art.
My first thought after you finished it..."oh yeah he is gonna bunnyhop that thing backwards."
Sick!
You should build a trail map “station” of sorts like you had at berm creek.
Ty Tilden great idea!
I assume he will, but since Berm Peak isn’t finished he can’t make it yet.
@@jmoney4695 - Will it ever be finished though? He's gonna have to build a flat-screen into the station to keep it updated.
Seth, this is seriously some of the best content on youtube. The combo of biking and building and the outdoors... much respect. love it.
This is awesome, love the rugged creativity that Berm Peak has unleashed in you! To make the most out of that little winch without adding a snatchblock: Set your tree anchors higher to pull up on the log and decrease ground friction, choke the log at the very end for maximum pull, try a plastic sled or scoop shovel under the front end of the log to increase slipperyness.
Hey Seth! Just a tip, you can always add in a pully system, such as one called a "z drag" to help lighten the load and increase the load capacity that the winch can pull!!
Came to say the same thing. Block and Tackle pulleys would have been great there.
Yeah, also called a snatch block
Smarter everyday did a great video about that
cbuckdaytonoh lol i knew all about snatch blocks thanks to smarter everyday.
I’m getting the “seths gonna go whistler on us” feeling and I’m gettin excited
We've still got like 3-4 months until biking's open up here, but he probably will go. I saw him in the lineup last year.
He won't just use gas powered chainsaw for some reason
the closing scenes with the snow and wooden features, plus the music, superb!
Very very cool. Nice job and love the creativity and repurposing of native lumber!
Seth uploading on Fridays gives us all something to look forward to at the end of the week!
And the end of school for the week
I don't even have a mountainbike or anything like that. Just a city bike I (which I sometimes use for off-roading), but I like the inspiring vids and the woodworking side of the channel.
seth's lumber tips: thanks for milling with me today and I'll see u next time
There's just something about your videos that are not only entertaining, but super relaxing. You inspire to make more ramps, keep shredding it Seth!!!
cant belive how far seth has come form using a drill to move the log to making a full something to move a log and building all this crazy things in berm peak and building is own bike park
hats off to you seth really love you bro
Sketchy
Way too heavy
Absolutely perfect
Me: why doesn't he just bring his tools to...
Seth: you might be thinking...
I love your life. You tube pays you to kick around your house making jumps, trails, videos. Well done friend
I love this! Your carpentry skills have come so far. This ticks all the boxes for me, using available resource and it looks great!
Idea for next time moving timber: use a horse. They are strong has hell and can fit pretty much anywhere, in a forest.
Svenmpa yeah good idea just find one ini
True, but then you have to deal with a horse haha.
Yes Dwight K shrute
Today on Seth's horse hacks...
I swear tying the back of a hand truck (or one lying down) to the back of it and using a second one to wheel it up would’ve made it easier, but hey that’s complicated and kinda difficult
First two minutes I just kept thinking “this must’ve been what Stonehenge was like”
I love these Berm Peak build videos. Seth is living the life! And I can't think of a better person to deserve this life! Congrats Seth!
I can only imagine what would happen if he called Phil instead of Eric.
Seth uploads: Mountain bikers (including me) *CLICKS FASTER THAN LIGHT*

Same music used in every video: *ITS GO TIME*
Seth you don’t know how perfect timing this video is. I was just looking at that saw mill and wishing someone I subscribed to would test and review it.
Seth is one of those people who makes videos that not much people actually want to learn, but people just want to watch the video for entertainment. Love it!

It's so Relaxing seeing someone building stuff from wood that i'm never going to build.
I’m genuinely happy for you man! I’ve dreamed of finding a property like yours since I was a kid. I love rock climbing and mtbing, hoping to find something like this near Chattanooga. Maybe a smaller home but your land and what it’s producing for you is inspiring. Keep up the good work Seth!
Loved this one! Great to use local resources and work efficiently
This was one of the coolest projects you've done, imo. Well done.
Man busting all this wood makes me exhausted
You make this look so easy, I built the exact same jump as you and it took me like five days. You’re crafty.
That cinematography of the snow on all the features at the end is just beautiful
2:14 the sound 😂😂
I love wrangler star! So cool to one of my favorite UA-cam’s talk about my other favorite UA-camr being on the other side of the country! He lives in the county next to mine!!
Me as a kid, being a mountain biker, and someone who builds trails with his friends, love these kind of videos. Keep up the good work.
Your an incredible inspiration Seth 👍. You are a credit to all mountain bike riders 🤘
I never comment on your videos but I just had to on this one! I had a smile on my face the whole video, so awesome to see you use your own timber
Love the voice over on Eric Porter “yeah” heheh. Love the videos Seth keep up the good work
Love this video so much. So inspiring. I’ve got lots of fallen trees on my property (mostly oak) and a couple chainsaws. Never thought of this. I see some good winter projects coming up.
Seth please!!! do a full tour of berm peak, to show us the work you have done so far, amazing progress 👍🏻
Hey Seth, juts wanted to say I love these building videos keep them up👌
"I always thought lumber came from the store" ohhh I feel this so much! :D
I’m really happy with the commitment you make to this channel. Please keep up the consistent and plentiful videos!!
Dude. You’ve got to be one of the world’s coolest humans. Love literally everything you get into. Content is by far my favorite on YT.
Watching with my berm peak hoodie!!
I wanted to say thank you Seth you helped me along my mtb beginning journey and now it is my passion thanks
That winch is capable of a lot more Seth, look up “snatch blocks” on Smarter Every Day’s channel
That was really enjoyable. You, Sir, are one hard working young man!
Wow. Amazing video. True craftsmanship my friend.
1000th
Could've fashioned something underneath for the timber to slide on like small branches, right?
Or just a snatch block... easy 1000lbs in one move
Nice! I want to do the same in my backyard at some point
I like the smell of white oak when you saw it. Love what you do. Inspirational!
Wow, the trails look so beautiful when it's snowing!
Me: oh wow Seth has a way to mill lumber and can use good natural wood for cool new projects like skinny bridges or berms!
Seth: *R A M P*
Coming up next: *how I got hernia*
So true, as I watch this recovering from hernia surgery last month. He needs to be more careful lifting.
This is probably the third or fourth episode I've almost posted this comment.
for da boys so truw
How to: get a hernia
What is a hernia
One of the best videos I’ve seen in awhile. Way cool making your own lumber. Thanks for sharing.
You always down for lots of hard work!!! Respect
“It’ll make more sense later why I tried a 360 right here”
“Once the weather gets better, we will build the craziest feature yet”
“This ramp will be used for a much bigger feature later on”
Hints at a whale tail
And what does a 360 have to do with a whale tail
Sick! I’ll be building some new ramps to ride on my channel soon so this may be just what I need! (Minus the mill work)
Seth no other channel that I've seen is as smooth and informative and entertaining as yours. That ramp is freaking awesome.
This "born and bred on Berm Peak" was an amazing video.....an amazing DIY project using all organic from the homestead materials. Well done. Looking for more like this. For the next adventure I'm picturing a homemade saw to the cut the planks with manpower.
I was laying down and Seths bikes hacks came down from the top of my screen. I’ve never clicked so fast!
*I NEED F>U>C>E>D>*
I remember when Seth only had a couple under powered tools and no knowledge.
When im watching your videos, i calm down. Thanks for everything. 🙏
I got into wood working about the same time as I got into MTB, witch was about two years ago. I have really liked all your videos especially the ones at berm peak but this is my favorite so far. Keep up the good work man.
I would give you an "A" for effort and fortitude! Getem Tiger!!!!!
06:54 such a show-off! :p
This is so awesome! I just ordered a chainsaw guide from Northern Tool and am planning to do this. We have a huge pine tree behind the house that was blown over in a storm a year or two ago. Should be able to get plenty of lumber out of it for something like this. Thanks for the inspiration.
Its crazy how much these videos make me wanna go build things. Such flashbacks to my skateboarding days!
“This thing is pretty limited”

That’s a 50ft drop
Seth: it don’t look bad at all
$30 beam cutter, $100 electric chainsaw, $1000 worth of white oak. Brilliant! Nice work Seth!!!
Hey Seth, regular viewer here. Loving the series, it consistently delivers exceptional quality and entertainment. I love seeing you experiment with your content and trying new things on camera. Keep up the great work.
