It was exciting hearing these sounds. I was part of something new. I was the only person out of all my friends and family who used the Internet. It felt special. Nostalgia.
the guys making this sound were like: *oh yeah ,let's make a sound that will wake up every single parent at the middle of the night so their children get grounded*
This sound wasn't actually to wake up parents it is actually the calling modem and the receiving modem talking to each other the first part is a dial tone and number tones the next part is the modems settling on a V standard to use after that the receiving modem disables echo cancelation because that can corrupt data sent over the telephone lines and the modems start listing their capabilities then a spectrum is sent by each modem to measure the physical telephone lines, after that each modem takes turns sending random data so they can learn what each other sounds like over the telephone lines and finally the both send tones at the same time so that they can do the final training into learning what each other sounds like over the lines, the last bit of sounds are the two modems "talking" simultaneously transferring data after the speaker of the modems mute.
while waiting for a page to load, go to the kitchen and make a sandwich, see the local on the 8's on the weather channel, go check the dog in the back yard, use the restroom, return to the computer and it's still not loaded.
I would ask my mom for money and buy those 2.5 hours internet cards. It felt so precious when it was limited and felt like a treat somehow… now that internet is everywhere 24/7 it doesn’t feel the same… like when I was a kid and my dad gave me money to buy an ice cream on the weekend it felt much better than now that I can buy all the ice creams in the grocery’s freezer
Oh the glee when I dialed up for the first time. A mentor set it all up for me and sat there giving me a thumb’s up. I felt like the world was at my command. 😍😍
Hearing this and looking at the old logos/icons with the globes, arrows and computers. The internet seemed to much bigger back then. Maybe because not everybody had it.
But WHY did all technological noises have to sound so creepy? This noise, along with windows 95 scared the crap out of me as a child, I had to hide in other rooms and block my ears everytime they were playing lmao. To this day they creep me tf out. And this comes from a huge horror fan.
I remember in the UK when you used to have to wait until 6pm on freeserve when it was free to go on the internet lol, used to take about 2 mins to download an image
We had 24 KBps... around 11:00 PM it would sky rocket 26 Kbps. It was just fast enough to watch a 30 second UA-cam video in 360p. It would load somehow..
Those were the days. The late 90s before high speed internet came about. when my mum got us high speed internet in 2001 i was so excited that we could use the internet & the phone at the same time
This and floppy disks. My father would download games at work on floppydisks for us and bring them home. Good memories of me, my younger brother and dad all behind the computer booting up the games and hope it all worked. So many games, one that stuck with me was this game that you where a man holding a baseball bat and you where supposed to whack a man on a bike over a ravine. It was so simple yet me and my younger brother would play it for hours. He did the bike guy i did the swing, and we would switch from time to time. Looking back it was basically prehistoric happy wheels. Took 2 floppy disks to download no less!
Those were the best times in my life I have a plan I want to return the spirit of the 90s back to the world I want things to be like they used to be I want the world to be beautiful and full of hope again

These sounds brings me back to my childhood. I miss these times they were so much more simple. 🥹 Back in the early-late 2000s my parents had AOL dial up and I remember getting so irritated as a little kid trying to play games on the old pc and it taking forever. My parents didn't get fast high speed internet until 2010. (I'm a 90s baby, 2000s kid)
Back then people were a lot more patient and mature Now we are all like big kids who compete with each other in who will make the biggest pile of shit as fast as possible

Hey, the internet allowed new stuff to come up on your computer instead whatever limited contents you bought and installed from a disc. That white browser window would fill up with stuff that was brand new, from anywhere, and endless
Back in the second half of the 90s, I remember we were on AOL, now at the time, it was a penny per minute, doesn't sound much in money right? Wrong, by the time our next telephone bill came in it was a few hundred pounds. So we made a rule in the home that however many minutes a person was online, they would go into the settings and see exactly how many minutes it had been for their personal session and put into a big jar, the exact amount of pennies.......good job we did that because when the next bill came through for that quarter, £634 was the total. We had that amount in the jar to pay it........thank God for broadband shortly afterwards that is all I will say LOL
Hearing this while loading MSN messenger after school and getting ready for a cosy night in. Time flies...
Oh my god MSN messenger, if you know you know!
Omg
Damn... I miss these times 😢
MSN messenger was way before Facebook, MySpace ect. That is how we kept up with friends, girls ect

No they weren't though
I dont want to be rude but the reason it sounds like that is the sound is actual data and i guess data doesnt sound so nice.
@@SpogudYeah because is data has the 1s and 0s i think, also what else do you expect to sound like guys
just adjust the volume ring

I don't miss dialup internet in the slightest.
