- Penny Mordaunt ripped into Sir Keir Starmer in a furious Commons attack after a day of chaos yesterday over a Gaza ceasefire vote.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle is clinging on to his job as more than 50 MPs have signed a motion of no confidence in him. The Commons Speaker sparked fury yesterday when he upended parliamentary convention by selecting Labour's bid to amend an SNP motion calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Sir Lindsay issued an apology after a day of acrimony that saw MPs pass Labour's amendment to the opposition day motion as Conservative and SNP politicians walked out of the debate in protest.
Commons Leader Penny Mordaunt today said Sir Keir has shown he is "not fit" to lead Britain.
Speaking in the Commons, she said: "He puts the interests of the Labour Party before the interests of the British people.
"It's the Labour leader that doesn't get Britain and the past week has shown that he is not fit to lead it."
She blamed Labour for chaotic scenes in the Commons on Wednesday.

1. This was an SNP Opposition Day Motion.
2. House rules state that only ONE Amendment is allowed on that Motion and that is always the Government Amendment.
3. Before the debate even started Starmer met Hoyle and 'urged' (his word) Hoyle to break House Rules and allow a Labour Amendment as well.
4. Starmer used alleged threats against Labour MPs as a reason for Hoyle to break House Rules. In other words: Do as I ask or people will be hurt'. THAT is blackmail plain and simple.
5. Tragically Hoyle allowed his past Labour loyalties to betray his duty as Speaker, broke House Rules and allowed Labour's Amendment.
5. It was at THIS point that the Government Amendment was withdrawn as this was clearly a hijack of the SNP's Day by Labour aided by a breach of House Rules.
6. the Government had a very clear majority to pass its Amendment to suggest otherwise is plain daft.
The actual content of the Motion and Amendments is actually irrelevant to the events and not as you fabricate. Hoyle only had to call the SNP Motion, have the debate, then call the Government Amendment and then call a Division.
To try and protect the disgraceful actions of Starmer and Hoyle is pretty shabby.
She is right the Labour Leader and his team are certainly not fit to govern our country, despicable what Starmer has done to put Hoyle who is clearly a weak man in this position.
