Penny Mordaunt struck a bullish tone in the Commons, describing allegations raised by opposition MPs as based on “speculation, innuendo and smear” rather than fact.
Labour’s deputy leader, Angela Rayner, who secured an urgent question on ministerial interests, had accused Government ministers of acting “like rules are for other people” and levelled claims against Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Home Secretary Priti Patel and Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
Ms Mordaunt said the public do have an interest in the issue of standards in public life but view criticisms raised in the Commons during the urgent question “as a load of flannel”.

You should watch her embarrassing rant at the Conservative Party Conference ( fight, fight and more fight ) and you will quickly see why her fellow MP’s did not vote for her in an earlier PM election . Penny Mordaunt is trying to defend the indefensible by diversifying away from the fact that the Conservatives have been absolutely useless for the last 14 years and are responsible for the highest national debt seen in this country since 1945 . They lied to get the Brexit vote and lied at the General Election as none of their promises have been fulfilled .

It’s funny, the first thing I do when I need to source something in business is call someone I know (isn’t that the obvious thing to do?) and trust rather than going through a lengthy RFP process and trusting a complete stranger who has spent the last 8 weeks trying to guess what I want to hear so they can win the contract.

That's why 37 billion pounds went to wife of Tory MP to run useless track & trace system, even though she had no experience in healthcare. Also many experienced PPE suppliers were snubbed, when they offered to help with shortages, instead favouring companies set up specifically by their friends and donors, again with no experience, consequently producing millions of pounds worth of useless protective gear which had to be burnt. As far as I know, not one penny has been retrieved from said companies.

Mordaunt showed yesterday that a competent and informed politician will always out perform someone who has a politician's job because they shout the loudest. Rayner is little more than catherine tates Lauren's character. Amazing, BBC, Sky, ITV and C4 have all failed to cover the best put down in parliament in modern times. I assume because they also like it behind the bike shed. I have watched the exchange. It was a woman against a baby. Penny absolutely demolished hapless Rayner. Sir Kneel Smarmer was absolutely right to demote her then absolutely plotless to promote her with a larger brief. I think she needs to be thrown on the scrap heap, but if you want to keep her, then she will be a gift that keeps on giving. Wonderful performance Penny.

@@dps3346 You never suggested they were either. Like this Video which conveniently doesn't show Rayners initial allegations your comments are one sided. More to the point the allegations are not about expenses claims which amount to small beer but about contracts being handed out to supporters amounting to millions of pounds of tax payers money. This seems to be de rigueur under this administration and is not comparable with expenses claims.
The expenses scandal was contrived to give the impression that all MPs are as bad as one another (despite one on the right claiming £10k for a duck house!) clearly the Tories can't escape criticism for lining the pockets of the super rich so the tactic is to try and give the public the impression Labour are as bad - seems to have worked with you.
