- Hey house lovers and explorers! Todays video is a cool one as it is grass roots Urban Exploring which includes old homes, warehouses, offices and manufacturing infrastructure all on the same site. Another example of the many sites within Adelaide suburbs targeted to create residential infill trying to keep up with housing demand.
Like other similar sites I have done where old homes have been incorporated in to them this one I will do another follow up to diving in to the history of the homes and the land before it was built up with industrial complexes. A lot of the plant on the Northern side had been turned to a plie of twisted metal already and removed but there is still heaps to see here including the homes. I have more industrial sites on file to upload and of course many many more beautiful homes and iconic spots around Adelaide still to come. Hope you all enjoy the tour, Cheers for watching :-)
My Father worked at Castalloy for over 30 years before it became New Castalloy. They not only worked in Alloy, but also had a plastics division that manufactured the red plastic Coca-Cola crates. My Father was a Methods Engineer and designed the machine that painted the embossed Coca-Cola name on the crates white. The first house you went into was the Draftmans Offices. The other 2 houses were mainly used for storage in later years. My Father's last job before he retired was to design and build the machine that manufactured the Alloy wheels for Harley-Davison. This video made me quite sad, being Father's Day an all. I miss my Dad. 😢 Thank you Paul for documenting this. ❤
Hi MerrideeParker 😊 thanks for sharing your recollections and fathers expertise at this place, I was hoping to learn some first hand accounts from locals as I will do a follow informative video with the history. I bet your Dad held the place dearly working there for over 30 years. Shame I could not access before many of the sheds were knocked down. Glad you enjoyed although a bit sad too 😊👍
Wow what a massive site that is mate love all the history of these videos you make
@@MerrideeParker there were many machines in the process of building the wheels...I use to fix them, including a large pick and place robot. 👍
How cool are you neet thank you I miss my dad two GBUSA
This really is a awesome looking area of mostly abandoned houses and office buildings of a manufacturing company some already demolished
and there are a whole lot of places to explore here, great to see this place
to look through before the entire houses and buildings are all completely torn down and demolished and as always glad to see abandoned places like this here about to be torn down eventually, another great video and until next week and another abandoned house Thank You.🏘🏘🇦🇺
Hi Roger, yes it was a very interesting explore around the site. A sense of apocalyptic times! :-) Cheers for watching
I like it when you put the history of the place, when possible.
Me too Mava and I will redo this one along with loads of other new and older ones as they now have been demolished 👍
The sounds in that place from the wind was quite eerie. For suburban Adelaide it looks like a regional area more. I love these factory explores mate 💯
Glad you enjoyed it Drew 😊 yeah it was quite apocalyptic scenes in there and the sounds in the wind. 👍
Glad you got there before it was all gone
Cheers Jerrold :-)
It's great you got a chance to document the Castalloy site before it disappeared. I never worked there but did regular deliveries there in the 90s/2000s. Probably peak manufacturing in SA, most of the companies I delivered too are now all gone! Pretty sad really. So many jobs lost. Look forward to ex workers leaving their comments.
If you buy any of this land, get the soil tested! And tested again! 😊
Cheers Sonofdat 👍 definitely a peek in manufacturing as I was doing industrial packaging deliveries all around Adelaide during that time too. I have several other industrial sites still to upload still too. Cheers for watching 👍😁
@urbexindigo5164 true, true, i used to work at Key's.. when electrolux (Simpson/email) were still going strong, Holden's on 3 shifts a day, Bridgestone and Hills industries on south road.. edwardstown was packed full of smaller supplier companies. So many have now gone. And the ones that are left are just not the same.
Always look forward to your videos Paul. Keep up the good work.. thanks..
Very awesome video mate! Glad you got to check it all out before it all gets demolished! 👍❤️🤘
Glad you enjoyed Carla. Yes it was very well secured for a long time so was lucky to at least get the homes and south frontage. 👍😊
I worked there from 2001 to 2013..
Did many jobs there. From double over head cylinder heads to 498 manifolds to low pressure to heat treatment.. great memories.
Cheers Neil :-) Great hearing from locals and their accounts. :-)
Thats one huge site. A pity those homes are gone, but it does make sense to takedown these unused factories for new homes to be built.
Just read the comments, we are all thinking one dodgy cover up after another, those poor Beaumont children need to be let to rest. bless em❤
Thank you!!! Very interesting!!💙💙
Cheers Deborah :-)
As soon as the video opened I said that's old work!..Worked as an electrical maintenance worker there when it changed to Harley- Davidson Wheels Manufacturing plant……. Memories.
Cheers 😊👍 love hearing from locals and their accounts. Were you there a while? Thanks for watching 🙂
@@urbexindigo5164 I worked contract there with Skilled recruitment and had 2 stints there for people on leave etc. plenty of nooks and crannies to make yourself scarce.😁 The place had a lot of furnaces and baking ovens for moulds. Dirty place to work, black soot dust everywhere.
This site is spooky! Be careful out there! Great explore!😊😊😊
Cheers Robin :-) Yes a little apocalyptic feeling while in there. :-)
You’re a man with my own heart ❤ love the history & how you present it all. You learn & find out a lot about your explorers so you pass it on to your viewers, that’s what set’s you apart from the others. Fully enjoy 👍
Hi Kkk 🙂 glad you enjoyed, thanks for the support and for watching, I intend redoing this one and many more both already uploaded and not yet uploaded with the History added again. 🙂👍
Isn’t that the company whose original owner was a major suspect in the disappearance of the Beaumont Children back in January 1966 ?
Not only did the SA Police dig up part of the car park only a few years ago looking for a possible grave but the late owners son admitted he believed his dad had something to do with the children’s disappearance .
G`day Tim, yes mate that is the site. There were several excavations there in recent recent years. Cheers for watching :-)

I have a few of their cast aluminium Baking Dishes, very good quality for their age.
Yes I heard that too
@@urbexindigo5164 The owner known as Satin Man used to dress up in satin dresses in one of those cottages.
Different but interseting...😊.nice work..U I
❤❤❤ for the algorithm
Very interesting place. I suspect that you were not alone while there, whomever left those tools was probably hiding close by. The room right at the tools had a bunch of luggage type bags, and looks like they were loading them up with copper, you could see a bunch of cut up heavy gauge wire right there with the bags. It has been my experience with exploring here (South Carolina, USA) that most scrappers are not dangerous, and are just trying to scrape a living out of the junk. True they often damage the sites we want to see, but for the most part they are just trying to get by and are definitely not interested in any trouble. It is amazing the damage those termites can do to a place!! Thanks for sharing another interesting place with us!!
Hi Ludercoarms 🙂 spot on mate and I have encountered scrappers quite a few times and yes they are just trying to make a living and they were not aggressive at all but I guess if they are getting to places before contracted salvage teams it can be an issue. Usually they are cleaning up the left overs. 👍
At my perspective, cast aluminum products were made there including wheels.
I'd like to know where every single employee went and what they're doing today.
Another job that pays the same or better?
Early retirement?
"Free" money as they sit at home knitting?
No need to answer if you don't wanna.
Thanks for the tour Paul!
Stayin tuned! 👍🤠
G'day John 😁🙂 yes a real hub of activity in this place for decades! I'm sure many many workers have come and gone with many memories and yarns to tell. Cheers for watching 🙂👍
I was there from 2001 to 2013.. Was a great place to work..learnt lots of skills there.. now I'm a truck driver.
Urbex Indigo thanks for sharing this video with me my friend i really enjoyed it so much and i can't to see your next video i am from the U.S.A and God Bless.
Thanks for the explore. Very interesting place.
What an epic adventure very interesting site I’m sure a lot of history the old homes were nice to would be very interesting to know what the site was used for. Thank you for the tour. ❤😊🌟x
Hi Megan :-) Will be doing a follow up video for this one with history. Thanks for watching again :)

Lookin forward!
Making of Harley Davidson wheels and other Harley products even casted cylinder heads. Manifolds. Swing arms..
Hey mate if only these walls could talk. I had two mates that used to work at the castalloy site being used to make Harley Davidson wheels for the motorcycle. This places looks heeps massive and definately got a creepy vibe when I heard a voice as you were going through the sheds, but is was pigeons. The old Villa with the termite damage looks like it might of not being used for years just locked up tight. Those concrete pillas what would they have been used for or something else the mind boggles. Awesome video mate cheers.
Cheers Werner. I used to drive past it everyday years ago for work. Always wanted to see inside those old homes! :-) Thanks for watching again mate
@wernersadventures8330 The 2 concrete blocks or pads inside that building were probably used for precision measuring equipment for new designs/quality control. Holden had something similar.
Where are the children? 😢
That was a different explore and very worthwhile. History of the the original houses and early manufacturing plant. Thank you Paul for your continuing efforts and MerrideeParker for your input.
Hi Ken, cheers mate, glad you enjoyed. I have a few ones like this also still to upload. :-)
Bonjour d'Occitanie (France)
Merci pour la visite de cette usine
Oooohhh awesome,
My fave urban explorer on a Sunday afternoon.
Thanks Mr Indigo ❤
I'm guessing 1880/1890s on that big house, large hallways are a give away, I miss our old place in Guildford WA set out much the same, there would have been a dry cellar under there at some point also. Nice explore.
Hope you enjoyed it missdemeanor :-) Thanks heaps for watching and the support :-)
Hi paul, thankyou for sharing something different, l like how you take us into what use to be. Can't wait to see more. Cheers deb
Glad you enjoyed it :-) Thanks for the support
Nice vidéo 👍👍👍👍😺😺😺👋👋👋👋
Going by google the company was owned by Harley Davidson, was closed in 2018 with lose of 120 jobs. Did manufacture of Aluminnium component and rims.
Interesting, was it something before that, that was a large complex to have only employed 120.
@@kentuckylady2990 it may of had more before the closure, didn't check how long it was going for will check. The original company started in the 40's 700 employes over 3 shifts.
What a great explore
Cheers for watching Pocket Watch :-)
Great video enjoyed it thank you so much ❤
Glad you enjoyed it Patricia :-)
So glad you got in there before it was all gone Paul. Always wondered what the houses were used for.
HG80369 thanks for watching, yeah I was trying to get here before it started demolished but was very secure. Glad to get what I did which included the houses :-)
Drove down Mooringe Ave the other day, was shocked to see old Castalloy gone completely. Worked there in the early 2000's for a few weeks knocking out sand castings for Holden Commodore engine sumps. That place was meant to be replaced by the new Castalloy but never really went ahead. The management were difficult to deal with, they did good work supplying Harley Davidson with wheel rims, but the rest of the place was way behind the times.
Vy oil pans
It still shows as being there on google earth, how much longer it'll show there I don't know.
Cheers Jon :-) Always great hearing from locals familiar with these places. I was always such a busy area Mooringe Ave with all the industrial sites, many which are also gone now. A lot of Snack bars and Deli`s along there back in the day too. Cheers mate :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 Is great hearing from the locals but I feel a need to mention I'm from the US, intrigued by the loss of many jobs there, it's also nice to hear from commenters that have worked there. I also toured down the Beaumont children rabbit hole as a result of viewers commenting on that.
@@JohnShinn1960 cheers mate! There is another Jon above you who also commented from Adelaide 🙂 I had a feeling you would have got in to the research, cheers for the support and always watching and commenting 🙂
FYI, In the US we call white ants termites.
Interesting
Ah, this is a bit different. It's quite interesting the old factory type buildings they look like what we could see needed upgrading or simply knock it all down, redevelop the site. Pretty standard decision these days. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, MM :)
Hi MM :-) Yeah many of these industrial site have been levelled and seems to be the way for a while as you said, cheers for watching again :-)
Once a busy place.
This place was huge!
If all the sheds were still standing the video would be 2 hours long Vicki lol :-) Cheers for watching
Time for a revamp & beautification overdue - what a wasteland!
Great Video!
The concrete slabs were apparently in place from when the creepy owner installed heavy duty, industrial style sewing machines to make his satin garments! This was so they wouldn't fall through the floor!
FYI, if you are doing further 'digging', the dig site that was were the children are meant to be was on Kinkaid Ave directly opposite the park. Not far in from the road. However, the story goes that their could be suggestion that they're under where the car park was behind the two houses where you saw the concrete slab...
A note physically left on the gates of the factory on the 50th anniversary of their disappearance suggested the two girls were buried there but not the boy...
Who knows... But a good time to rule it out now - what else will they find if they excavate the whole site!
Hi Alex, thanks for the comments. Interesting about the sewing machines, I wondered what they would have supported, in it looked as though an attempt with a jack hammer tried to crack one open, maybe thinking it was also a casket or on top of something? I wonder if there will be another excavation before it's built on again. Cheers for watching 🙂👍
Yr drone footage is excellent Paul y do they have to do this to our old manufacturing plant and homes it's discussing and really disappointing but I suppose it's progress
they will get a good amount from scrap metal from all those big sheds what a massive property
RIP the Beaumont children I truely believe their bodies are under those grounds somewhere 😓
Hi Taryn, yes it seems many do think so too. Cheers for watching :-)
I have kept my late grandmothers frypan which is easily 50 plus years old. It is made by Castaloy.
Cheers for watching JWOLDING :-)
Stuart Mullins and Bill Hayes maintain that the 2018 dig was in the right spot but not deep enough Paul. They have a book and a podcast, and their detective work is very credible. Hopefully they will dig again before the site is redeveloped, I've written to 3 MPs and heard crickets basically (presumably the development is earmarked to go ahead) 😢
Cheers Kukkafeatures, I will use this for further research and furthering my understanding of the subject. As I replied to your later comment this must be a passionate subject for you?
Hi Kukkafeatures, I will use this to further my understanding and knowledge on the details 👍Doing the explore I did not really want to make light of anything as I was not that well informed other than knowing there were excavations looking for the Beaumont children. I figured I could always do a follow up video with the confidence of knowing more and being more accurate . Thanks for your comments and watching, this
@@urbexindigo5164 hello, yes this topic is very intriguing and the podcast & book by these guys are very good. I hope you don't mind me commenting about these details. Copper thieves tools?
Hi Jerrold, yes that is probably a fair guess. Cheers :-)
Wondering how many lost their jobs when that place shut down.
Hi Kentuckylady :-) About 120 employees to my understanding and in the other comments
I started in 2001 with 700 plus workers when I took a package back in 2013 there was only 250 plus..then last year was only about 120 left.
Sad I have friends who lived in the immediate area and it has been a landmark for the area for last 50 odd years for me.
Horrific things allegedly occurred in one of those cottages according to Mullins and Hayes. Phipps and his associates used it for habitual abuses of children, including their own 😢; Beaumonts ?
Hi Kukkafeatures. Iv not really delved in to every detail of alleged events and realise there are a lot. Hi there!! I'm glad I refound your channel.
Way back we used to chat esp. including Mike & metal detecting.
My best find so far was a box with beautiful shiny Morgan Silver Dollars. Bought a book about my 1700's town in Maryland -- it shows lot's of pics - One story in there was about a guy who luved Morgans -- they were all over his house -- they found after he died. His house was torn down in the 1930's but the tree's are still there-- I got permission to metal detect from a Pizza Hut now on the property to metal detect.
By an old tall tree is where I found a small chest buried with the coins -- which filled my back pack with 250 coins, then had to take the bus home, that backpack was heavy.😂
I hope to sell some & maybe buy a house & truck one day...and get 2 books I've written published.
Right now I'm watching your vids when I should be finishing moving from the 5th to the 2nd floor - same building but the apt is all been re-done-- I've been in the same building for 14 yrs-- I'm throwing out ALOT. If I ever get to move out -- I'll pretty much just leave with clothes an 1860's dresser & really old but cool dine-table.
I'm on the Chesapeake & down the road is a haunted lighthouse & Keeper's house-- the town has buildings from the 17th & 18th century plus new one's of course.
Hope I haven't bored you to death with this comment. Well - on to this video.
Hope you're doing well. (GhostCityShelton@gmail.com. was my old channel - You Tube put ads on it-- nice how they make $ from our work, eh?)
I still have my 🦘coin!!! that you & Mike were laughing about. You old bud Ruth.❤
@@RuthShelton-ou4id yes I remember chatting in the comments years ago! 🙂You loved the Paranormal stuff too. Wow about the haul of old coins you found, hopefully you can buy a house of your own as a reward. You would love some the old properties I have explored as I am sure there would a lot of old items under the dirt waiting to be found. When moving places it is far easier taking less things!!! lol. Hold on the Kangaroo coin, it will bring you more good luck! :-) Cheers for watching again Ruth

Maybe if you ever get some time you could try metal detecting -- Sure there's a lot of junk but sometimes you find some neat stuff. I do it as a hobby & it's good to get out & about.
My best paranormal experience was at the Concord Point Lighthouse...behind it on the long dock.
A really bad storm had come up -- dark windy skies, the waves were making the dock move. When this black figure of a person came up from the water-- at first I thought it was a real person for a few seconds. Other's popped up and they were pointing to the left -- I'm thinking what are they & what's with the pointing ---
Knowing the storm was really getting bad -- you know common sense says leave -- but one doesn't see a 'ghost' let alone a group of them every day -- Why are you here I think I said outloud....they kept pointing --- then one went up the dock ladder & stood there --
I got the hint -- walked quickly home-- only live a short distance from the lighthouse -- just got through the door turned the light on and it went right out -- the storm had knocked out the power.
I think the reason the ghost's pointed was they were pointing in the direction of my home!
I haven't been on my old channel in awhile -- hopefully the video on that encounter might still be there ( GhostCityShelton)
Maybe you'd like to check it out someday. Anyway -- thank you for getting back to me & I'll be catching up with your videos--- Isn't your name Paul if I remember right? Or do you want me to use the channel handle?
@@urbexindigo5164
Just saw your latest video, really nice job done. Sad watching the last bit-- seeing the house when it had just been left -- the before demo time what a well kept home it was....
Land folks come in-- offer $ -- folks move out & once beautiful homes are left to the mercy (no mercy) of the hammers & saws till the homes are completely gone.
It would have happened to the lighthouse & it's Keeper's house across the street from it -- but Friends of the lighthouse was formed & they were saved.🙂
Interesting fact. Someone shot & killed a man & left him by the back door of the Keeper's house before it was fixed up.
The lady behind the counter showed me the police paper that showed the man's picture. I had her walk over to where pics of past lighthouse keepers hung-- one of the pictures looked just like a man who had kept the light going in the lighthouse...that man had worked there in the 1800's -- they looked like twins!!!
I'm used to the ghost's there-- but the lady was abit shook up, I guess she was new there-- Most folks that work there are kool with the ghost stuff that goes on there.
If you take a picture of a top window some times a lady in 1800's clothes shows up and she watches the 4th of July fireworks.
What is going there instead?
Residential I am pretty sure. Cheers :-)
