  • Hey house lovers and explorers! Today we look at one the very first buildings to be demolished in Glandore, Adelaide including many many old homes to make way for a portion of the huge River Torrens to Darlington tunnel project currently underway.
This site in this video consists of 2 Churches and an commercial office section. The old original church on the left was built in 1913 and the distinctive mid century modern designed Church on the right was built in 1964. In 2009 The site was sold and converted to accommodation use for the Australian Worker`s Placement and then as a halfway house/hostel type facility until it was acquired by the government to be demolished.
Squatters and former boarders were still making use of it`s vacancy after the acquisition as you will see.
My focus around this area was to try and document as many of the old homes a possible for posterity which I was luckily able to. I have added a brief history to these churches and intend doing a follow up video with a more extensive back story as the more I looked the more I found including long gone residents who are link to the old homes of the area.
This is the second time in 17 years Glandore has take a hit to it`s Western edge of South road as many homes were lost to an underpass in 2007.
hope you all enjoy, cheers for watching. :-)

Thank you for sharing the history on these properties and historic photos. It is so sad to see these neighbourhoods lost to development. Families being uprooted from their homes which are now only memories. It's heartbreaking! And the church that was accommodation... how awful when there are so many people living on the streets. I really appreciate all the time that you put into your videos. Thanks so much

Very sad, how can the government condemn a beautiful old church and a place that was so obviously needed. Absolutely shameful. I really hope the squatters are ok. Thank you Paul for sharing this with us. The drone footage at the end shows the absolute destruction. How many homes were lost? I am in Perth and we almost had similar here but we protested and it was stopped ( for now )

I reckon somebody was using the mattress at 21:00 to drop things onto from the floor above. Easier than trying to move items down the stairs.

The timber beds look like they are in good condition and can be reperposed. Maybe the mattress and the other stuff in the room could have been done by someone with a mental illness that they thought someone was trying to get them.

Well this proves that throughout life they'll be many changes -- in our lives-- and in our surroundings.
That's why it's nice to take pics & be abit of an explorer.
One day someone might take pictures of 'your' pictures & wonder what it was like 'way back'... (& the furture folks are talking about 'OUR' time period !
Folks of the future: " Oh look Martha -- Here's some guy named Paul-- Would ya just look at those old house's --"
(And the 'old houses' would be from 2024 ! If the ladies could be from way in the future.)
Hey, look at the '60 Min. Book' from what-- the 1970's or something.
Look at those beautiful stain glass window's -- & the remembering of those who've past on.
In this world-- one thing is true-- they'll always be life changing things happening --
Sad to see folks loosening their beautiful homes where they've made so many memories.
The churches-🙏- where whorship service's were held, lunches, dinner's, bingo, weddings, funerals --
Fun times for kids at Christmas & the pagents -- & so on.
    Now it's just empty lots--
BUT THANKS TO PAUL & folks like him 'we' can look back and remember the past -- as it once was.
Change is good -- without it how would we continue to learn & grow.
Thank you Paul -- Please stay safe. Dang ! I'd volunteer to be quiet & play 'bodyguard'-- so many times it seemed like someone was on a bed, or behind the ding dang door-- looked like someone died on that bottom bunk-- my goodness ---
Please wear a belt and have a combo 🔦 torch/StunGun --- I might come in handy one day

Thank you for uncovering and sharing the timeless beautiful history and stories behind these fascinating places being unfortunately lost to time and development...so many times have i driven past many of the locations you cover, and wonder about the past that is hidden behind their walls and people that have walked through their doors. You're an Adelaide gem Paul, thank you as always!

Thank you for sharing this. I live just down the road and have watched the upgrades to South Road over the years. My family owned a fish & chip shop just over the overpass of Cross Rd. I knew of a girl who actually lived in one of the houses many years ago. I guess its progress but sad to see these buildings & homes being demolished.

The vehicle number plate on the door S671BRP was from an unregistered Ivecco van with reg expired on 27/09/2021. The lead light windows were amazing. Especially with the deceased peoples names on them. I wonder what was up in the attic manhole where the ladder went at the start ?? I guess because you’re alone it’s not worth the risk climbing ladders with your camera. You definitely do a good job because I watched your whole video and only fast forwarded bits in the beginning after the manhole until it got interesting around where the hanging mattress was. I’m guessing drunk peeps were jumping off the banister onto the mattress or with the mattress using the rope to break their fall for fun.

Hi paul, great episode, so sad that these churches are getting demolished. And houses as well. We where recently traveling around, came across Gulnare near Clare. As l heard there church may get demolished as well. I did notice that the foundation was needed to be looked at. The rest of the building looked good. Keep up the great work paul. Cheers deb

Towards the end when you entered a small room with what looked like a patio gas heater and wondered if it had been used I hope not because I've heard of people dying from carbon monoxide poisoning when they've done that.

I thought Adelaide is a city of home demolitions .About every video I watch it's about demolition. You know the owners didn't get what they needed for another home. The goverment only cares about themselves and getting pay raises for nothing they do.
