- Hey house lovers and explorers! Today`s video is back in the suburbs of Adelaide where I take you through a classic 1942 Art deco influenced home that has all the nice features renown from that time period. This home sat vacant for years although it seems at least a mother and young daughter had made it their halfway house for a short time from things left behind. Another beauty claimed by developers. The previous occupants probably helped the sale of this home to developers as you will see. A classy home in original condition, I hope you all enjoy the tour. Cheers for watching :-)

I absolutely love Art Deco! My style is Southwestern/Aztec design and it fits in perfectly. This one though, has to be one of my all time favorites! I really hope they save those windows and doors. If I didn’t live in America I’d be over there looking for someone to sell me those. 😢Thanks for showing us. ❤

I also love the old kitchen cabinets, so fitting for this old Grand Dam. Reminds me of being a child at my great grandma’s house. I’m a sucker for old homes and have a small 1932 brick Tudor house.

What a beautiful house! What makes me angry is when it has been destroyed for another purpose as in the front room. It's such a shame that this house is going to be torn down when it could be restored for future generations. Thanks for the tour Paul. Glad you got to explore this before it's gone.

I love both these beautiful homes, but i especially love the first one. I loved the beautiful stained glass windows in the first one.I loved the big walk-in pantry. The kitchen was bigger and better in the first house and i loved all the beautiful fireplaces in both houses. It is really sad that the families had to move for a tunnel to be put in. Keep up the good work i am loving the video's. ❤

This is a very nice vacant house from the 40's both outside and inside
in a nice suburb area but to bad it will be torn down soon by developers
but glad that you got a chance to explore and film it before it is demolished
it really was a great place to live with a nice property, it has a lot of rooms
in it and was a nice looking house for many years as always this is another awesome find in an abandoned house and until next time have a great week

Those windows and front door would sell for a mint here in the US. So beautiful.
A very expensive home. The windows, barley posts, glazed bricks everything built to perfection. The tradesmen were something else.

The room with the mattress was a dining room I bet. And the room next to that might have been a study? The first bedroom witH all the cabinets and drawers might have been the master.....you think? This was a good one!!!

Beautiful curves, lead glass, windows and doors,. Really nice kitchen space. Gorgeous wood floors. Sad to see the body of the glass door in the floor. Some of the Art deco features remind me of grandparents home (long ago). Very cozy, comfortable style back then to go and stay - even the flooring used then was lovely (would possibly opt for that flooring style today - looks as if was quite attractive & impressive!). Same backyard/garden potential (vibe) brings back some pleasant memories!!
She was such a beautiful loved home at some point. How its so disrespected in this way is beyond me😢
The room in the left of the front enterance may have been the formal dining room maybe. As the sliding doors would have been glass as you said the ones found in the shed ( not much privacy for a bedroom, originally). The mainbedroom might have been the room with the pretty queen Anne style built in wardrobe maybe, just a guess.

The squatters really made a mess in that house. I always hate to
see these beautiful old homes used as a grow house. It makes me
feel sick and also sad. They probably moved out after they grew
what they needed. I liked the kitchen very much. It’s big and has
lots of storage cabinets. The outside of the house was beautiful
with all the curves and those cool looking pillars. This explore was

Paul,I think in the kitchen where you talked about the terrazzo block, that was the old sink against the back wall of the house before the veranda extension was built..recon a 50's upgrade was done with sash windows and stainless sink on the side wall.
Nice size home. Must of been a lovely family home back in the day.
I imagine they did use that room with the mattress as a bedroom. That's why they took the art deco doors off...cause you could see through them!! I love a good puzzle!

Sad end for this home
For the life of me ill never understand how or why anyone would just walk away from their home.....why not sell it? Thanks for sharing this lovely home Paul.
I was thinking the same, and the previous family probably did sell it in good condition. I think maybe when they are just buying house for using it as a grow house (lots of money) then selling it/the land that can support a couple of homes, when land prices increase too, they have made a lot of money. They don't care about the house or it's details. Kind of explains the bed, toys and the sofa (people guarding the grow. Possibly a woman and her small kids). The doors were probably changed for added security. Time to call for back up if anyone (squatters for example) did try to enter the home. I was wondering if that food container at the end was an Asian brand. I can almost imagine this being a big organised crime type of operation and is going on under peoples noses everywhere. And less suss if women and children coming and going. And nosy neighbours may be less likely to become friendly and ask questions if non English speaking too.

Kitchen is good sized, lots of cupboards and good counter space. I'm surprised the shower wasn't smashed like the sink. I don't understand why squatters have to trash the house.
I think 30s. Only because it would've been hard to source materials during the war years.
That was my initial thoughts too. My research shows the first owner purchased the land in 1938 but his name only appeared in the directories as a resident in 1943 which usually means the home was built the year before as the directory information was collected the previous year in order to be printed in time. During wartime you are right that more ornate homes were built in fewer numbers and only by more wealthy folk 😁👍
I think we all agree that it's a crime that these beautifully designed home are being torn down, I'm sure future generations will be sorry. Sad to see it has been abused by not so bright individuals. Love the windows and those beautiful double doors which I guess were replaced for privacy to that room.
That house has Adelaide written all over it. The architecture in Adelaide is quite unique. Born in Adelaide but lived in Melbourne many years. You would not find a house like this in Melbourne. Their take on art deco is quite different. Love Melbourne art deco. Hate this. It is well constructed but someone got it wrong. Should have stuck with the classic Adelaide Tudor architecture which is truly iconic.

This is an absolute tragedy that these beautiful places are destroyed for the ugly monstrosities that they build now to squeeze as many people into each square foot…
One day there will be people finding videos like this from their history….

Are they lemons? Lemons normally have a longated oval shape. Maybe they were small grapefruit. If you squish the leaves you would be able to tell if it was a lemon.
Paul those round lemons are probably grapefruit. A carport is not totally enclosed, after it has 4 sides or is enclosed witha roller doorand is free standing,, it becomes a shed, That front room with changed double doors, could of become a bedroom due to the growth of their family. Also there seemed to be a lot of wasted space but at Christmas & other occasions the house could become 6 bedrooms. Bye cheers to you Jenny Adelaide, South Australia

I don’t understand stupid, so I have no idea why anyone would replace those beautiful art deco doors. 🫤 Our state legalized cannabis, making illegal growers obsolete. We can grow our own, or pop into a shop and choose from a wide array of products. I’m glad for those who imbibe, and it’s cut our crime rate. Beautiful home! ❤️ Thanks!
