Super useful tutorial. I’ve only ever used talkies while camping and never understood what other functionality they had. Walks you through all the functions and menus without any hassle. Thanks for the video.
you know that the securty codes are the bigest hang up remove them that dont work any way I have three radio's from a off brand thay do not have them just 22 channels pick one and go.
rember this is a four old radio radios in 2024 are 1/2 of a watt for family service with all the privecy codes which are not privet thay just lock up the radio so no one can talk to you as your radio are coded but thay can still hear you. I Owen rugged radio's they have no privet codes just 5 watts going in to a repeater at 60 watts then back out on second channel just trying to help.
Nicely done video. I recommend not using the ctcss and dcs codes - channels above 22. All this does is block other folks from talking to you, they can still hear your conversations, there is no privacy on these radios. If someone needs information or is in distress you will not be able to hear them. Stay on the first 22 channels, it will keep you from 'stepping on' other people's transmissions. I wish there was a way to turn off channels above 22 so the scan function wouldn't waste time scanning them during scans.
on less you program you radio to the repeter channels thay will not so not to worrie which are 15 through 21 are channels you need a license to operate as you would be talking 20 miles
@@donalderickson-si8ww I don't think these Midlands are programmable. At least I haven't figured out how to program it to not scan coded channels. If it does I sure would like to know how to do it. I have a license, not worried about using high power channels.
there are 8 channels marked R P T thay are repeter channels and require a three digit number to talk on it AND you need a license to do that as I have one here in Minnesota we use 6 repeter's covering 6 city's in three countys all on the same tone.
@@personalradiofun526 Hi again, do you know what kind of range I should be getting with the GTX1000 ? I thought it was like 30 miles...my walkie talkie stinks. I can't get three miles.
I have said it over and over the radio runs on a 1/2 watt transmiter and has a quter mile range take to plates the plates represent 1/4 mile if one plate does not over lap the other you are out of range I am W R X N 824 from minnesota.
If you don't need the capability to talk through repeaters then yes. Check out the repeater directory for your area at MyGMRS.com It is a good radio for simplex (radio to radio) if you don't want to worry about getting a better antenna. You will not get the advertised range. Be happy if you get a mile with any handheld.
I own several of these, the range is amazing in comparison to the UHF radios that look like these. I can drive 2 miles into the woods and speak clearly to my wife at the house. Before, with the "UHF" radios, I could only walk into the woods 50 feet (if that) and I would lose contact. I did a long range line of site test and could speak clearly about 12 miles. Many thanks to Personal Radio Fun for this video as I was stuck on the weather channel. I was able to exit the weather channel but still had the little flashing cloud. Using the channel 11 reset made that all go away.

I added the following into the description about the weather alert. I totally skipped covering the NOAA weather ALERT function. 1. Hold the WX key for 5 seconds. This enters the weather stations and finds the one with the strongest signal. 2. Press the WX button and confirm the station number to monitor. This step lets you select a station without the scan feature above. 3. Press the WX button again to get to the "AL oF" screen. 4. Press the up or down key to select "AL on" 5. Press the PTT to exit. A flashing cloud will appear showing that the ALERT feature is active.
My radio has that cloud icon displayed añd i can't make it go away. I tried pushing the transmit button while it was scanning, and I tried turning the unit on with the TX button pressed to try a reset--nither one worked. You wouldn't think that's a big deal, but my functional autism is making it drive me crazy. Any suggestions on how to make the clowns icon turn off so I can have a clean screen?
It is probably blinking also. I feel your pain. Here is how to turn off the blinking cloud: 1. Hold down the WX button for 5 seconds. 2. Press the WX button twice. 3. Press the up arrow so it says AL oF 4. Press the WX button 5. Press the PPT That will turn off the weather Alert Alarm and take you back to channel mode.
