Just bought a touchscreen for my wife's 2011 Rav4. Going to install it tomorrow. This video is EXACTLY what I needed. Great work! Thank you for all of the time and attention you gave to producing it.
Just installed this in my mom's 2008 RAV 4. Pretty much exactly how you described it. Great install video. A local installer was quoting me $150/hr for approximatley 4-5 hrs work. With your video I got it done in about 3 hrs. Thank you for your guidance.
Hey! Great video! My installation was a little different, but I still got a lot of great tips from this video. Just want to leave this comment for people who are still struggling with getting their back up cam going after trying the method on this video. For the black and red wires that powers the camera. I had to route the red wire and connect it to the reverse light power (positive cable). And the black wire you can either route and connect to the negative cable on the reverse light OR you can actually wrap it around a metal bolt on the inside back door. The black wire just needs to be attached to metal. I also had to route the Orange trigger wire (the small one attached to the yellow video cable near your trunk) and connect to the red wire. So to iterate, you can merge the red and small orange wire together, then use a connector to connect it with an additional red wire to the reverse light wire (the positive one-most likely will be black, coming out of the reverse light bulb. Essentially my camera needed power (which is what the black and red cable provided. Like a battery on a car, the red wire provided that positive charge by connecting to the reverse light positive cable. And the black wire attached to a metal bolt provided the negative charge). However, that will just power the camera, it won’t tell your camera it needs to appear on screen while in reverse. That’s what the small Orange trigger wire is for. When you connect it to the positive red cable, the charge triggers the camera feed while the car is in reverse. So just a little differences with wiring from my recent experience. Again though. Great video!! Just wanted to leave the tip in case others are struggling where I did. Thanks!
Ok I watched several videos and your video is detailed and thorough! With tools provided and step by step instruction your video is the best!!!! So I will be installing an android radio too on a Toyota RAV4! At 44 female, no previous knowledge of what a ratchet is and sockets but thanks to you! You have helped me man so I can’t wait. I’ll buy my set of tools later today woohooo
Just wanted to say that this was a great video from an editing / time lapse / quality / framing point as well as from a knowledge perspective. Great job!
Best video on UA-cam on how to properly remove the panels to pass the cables. You successfully managed to access the light harness on the side of the jack by completely removing the side panel. Well done! BTW, great tip on how to get the wires through that piece of rubber. Excellent job overall. One suggestion would be to use scissors instead of box cutter to split the electrical tape as to not cut through the wires by accident.
Good install, this video helped me with mine. I think the black cable you cut at 18:17 is the ground cable. The red cable from the camera goes to the backup light power connection, and the black one goes to ground that can be connected to the car body. There are screws in the back panel that you can just wrap it around. Another thing I would do before putting all of those panels back on is to turn on the system and check that the backlight camera works. I don't mean to be critical, but just providing some tips for the next guy. Thanks for making the video.
I believe he hooked it up first. He mentioned that he cut the black wire from the Camera because it didn't work when he hooked it up. Another video from someone else said the same thing. They get the ground and power from the front or Head Unit/radio.
Best part was at the end that you have to connect the black cable with the red ones in the back!! I was connecting it black with black and wasn’t working!! Attached it to the red and it worked 👍🏽👍🏽 great video
Great video! You have no idea how many videos I've watch trying to find one showing the power connection from the reverse camera to the reverse lamp. Most just talk about it but none show how to do it... Great job 👍👍
Oops. Never mind. I saw another viewers comments that indicated the radio indeed does support hands free and radio control. Awesome. Thank you so much for sharing
Great informative video. Tapping passenger side reverse light much easier. 3 points: 1) The 14 mm seat belt bolts can only be removed by impact wrench 2) The only way I could route the wire from camera to inside car is via the rubber grommet through which the license plate bulb wire is also routed, as shown in video 3) I agree that routing the wire & cable from the reverse light wire through the stiff hose is the most tedious task. Best way is to use a flexible PVC tube rather than a stiff rod as shown
Great job showing how you disassembled everything. Basically, you're pulling power and video from the front Head Unit, CCDVIn and Reverse wire. You're not grabbing power from the reverse back-up light.
I was on eBay and before I buy I thought I’d check out UA-cam for reviews and installation. Your video was the first one that popped up and to my amazement, exact same make and year vehicle. I can’t not buy it now lol. Great tutorial, thanks.

BTW, that is a great video Adonay, good job.
Thanks!! I stopped with my installation when I arrived at the back seat with my cable. Once I noticed how ridiculously complex it is to get that cable through the trunk I gave up. Watching this made me realize it's almost not worth the effort of 2-3 hours to get all of that stuff off. I might give it another go if I can get to motivate myself. So far I noticed you don't really need a back-up camera for this version of a RAV4. The rest of the installation is super easy though.
This video was great and was able to follow instructions and installed an android radio to my 2009 Rav4. The only installation issue I had was connecting the black wire to the reverse light due to lack of space. I opted to remove the tail-light cover and had plenty of room to properly connect the wires. I also used the camera which came with my radio, and placed it on the tag. It worked, but since the tag on the RAV4 is on the side, when I was on reverse mode, it was confusing since the camera is meant to be in the center. I then moved the camera to the bumper (in the center), and now it views better.
It's not bad as people think. I would recommend using posi-tap or t-tap for the reverse wire instead of cutting the factory wire. I dont like cutting factory wires. Nonetheless, very thorough video nicely done, sir.
I just military splice and solder everything/wrap it up with 3m electrical tape not the cheap crap that once its cold outside it doesnt stick to itself lol. Hey friend great video! As your ebay link is broken, do you mind sharing which android radio you bought? Is it the 1GB, 2GB or 4GB RAM? I am thinking everything besides 4GB might be laggy
Well done. If you're going to wiring on a regular basis, then I recommend that you buy an fish tape, electricians use them all the time to pull cable and wires through walls or conduit (or going thru that weatherproof hose), I even used one when I installed 8-track stereo systems in cars as a teenager about a million years ago.
Thiv video helped me a lot, I had a problem making the reverse gear engage the video in of the android sistem, and due to this explanations I realised how to fit the cables. Thank you, good work!
@@XGhost_GunX I found out that there were 2 wires that were marked as "reverse" and "back", the firss one in the camera set of wires, and the second one in the common set of wires. I cabled the "reverse" with the + from back light, and the unit did don work when reversing. Then I cabled the + with "back", and worked.
1) You need to connect to CCDAV-IN, Not Video-In cable. Please read manual of your head unit to confirm which cable is for reverse camera. If you connect to the wrong cable of head unit, your camera will never run. 2) The reason that we do not need to connect ground cable (black one) of reverse camera, because there is ground cable in the CCDAV-IN cable already. [ Note: If you use other independent 12 power(such as 12 V ride-on toy battery) to power the camera on and not connect black wire to the battery negative end, your camera will never run.] 3)Do not cut factory cable of reverse light. It is totally unnecessary. Using T-tap instead. 4) To confirm which wire is hot, I prefer using multimeter to test first. 5) Just like other comment mentioned, Do not attach GPS to the windshield, but attach it inside the head unit such as attach it behind air conditioner. 6) I route the wire through rubber grommet only by my hands. It is easy if you open your back door completely. I also can remove 14 mm seat belt bolts by hand wrench instead of impact wrench. 7)You should always test each steps if you do well. For example, after tapping to the reverse light, you need to test if the tapped wire can really get power. Test if reverse camera works, and then put back all panels! 8) Must use electric tape to fasten all connection ! You do not want to remove panels again if a connect loose. Overall, this is an high quality video. I enjoy watching it and it encourage me to DIY. I can not install the reverse camera without help from this video.
I just popped out my radio thanks to the help of your video I also have a very similar if not the same radio and for whatever reason the main 3 connections don't fit only 1 out of 3 fit yet it says the model fits 2006-2012 and I have a 2008 but the connections just don't fit luckily the original when back in perfectly and quickly!

I install so many of these Chinese knockoff Android radios and they are so bad it's not even funny. They might look great on the surface but their software is complete junk and honestly a $50 radio from Walmart sounds so much better than these.
@@BedjamRivera I know android is cheap for a reason, and I’ve had my fare share of hardware malfunction with other devices. But personally, my stock radio broke! I got my radio from Amazon. @@bfurl69 android it's isn't the problem it's the junk hardware. I just had a client come back because he blew his radio. He has only had it installed for 3 months. Already crapped out on him. It doesn't matter if you install the software from a Google Pixel 6 Pro it wouldn't make a difference if the hardware is trash.
I did the same install on my 2012 RAV4, but I placed the GPS antenna above the radio near the air vents. As long as there is no metal above the GPS it will work fine, also it looks more neat having no wires on top of the dash. The daftest thing on the XA30 RAV4 is that you have to strip out the rear of the car to get the reverse lamps out if you want to take power from there. A better option is to use the reverse trigger wire at the head unit.
@@andystube3405 I found in my case the reverse trigger needed to be connected to a 12 volt to 6 volt converter as OEM camera is 6 volt. Thanks for the video. In case if the camera screen is not in the right format you need to change that in the head unit to make it work or else it will display multiple frames
Great video however I have a few questions. Did this Rav 4 have an OEM back-up camera built in the rear view mirror & if so, what did you do with it? It appears that you did not use a dash kit? Also, did you connect the steering controls (assuming this vehicle has it).
Best description and video i have seen in a long time... just wondering about a little detail when it comes to the connections in the back ! Is the new system plug and play ? and is it compatible with the steering wheel buttons ? Thankyou for the effort you put into this
Thanks for the content. Excellent explanation. I want to install the new radio in my 2009 Toyota Rav4. It already has the back up camera that projects in the mirror. Could you explain where is the cable that comes from the back camera and how should I connect it to the new radio?
I’ve been looking around, trying to get someone to explain how we install it, or even take it to someone to install it to us, but after watching you, I would like to thank you for your authenticity and generosity to share your time and knowledge with us. And if I make the choice and do that, I might drive all the way from Minnesota to you. Just one question, sir, how much will be for the charge of the installation in the unit combined? Thank you
Thank you for the video. I followed and it worked especially just with stripping cables. I had t tap connector and it didn't work. I also required an addition electrical wire from the Reverse light. I am happy with my head unit. I don't know if it's just mine but the synchronization is a little off with Bluetooth.
Great video. I would jus advise use a cable splicer instead of cutting your vehicles wiring. Connectors are available so you don't have to cut wires and give a more secure connection.
Hi, do you have the exact name/model of the radio and back-up camera, or do you have any updated links? The ones provided in the description either go to empty eBay listings or error pages. Thank you for this video!
Nice!!! I have a 2007 RAV with the same kind of spare tire mount on the rear door. I was always concerned about the inability to mount a camera in the center due to the presence of that tire but your video shows one can still mount the camera by the license plate! In my RAV the hands free phone system is tied into the radio unit. In addition there are volume adjustments on the turn signal handle that tie into the radio. Does your radio have the same connections?
Great video thanks for putting all the instructions together. Can you plz share the exact name of Android radio that you installed? Im planning to change my Rav4 2010 radio.
Hey man, i followed this install with my own car using your link amd its great! My only issue is theres no memory in the headunit so its dreadully slow. Have you experienced this? What was your solution if so?

Thanks!

If you're going to wiring on a regular basis, then I recommend that you buy an fish tape, electricians use them all the time to pull cable and wires through walls or conduit (or going thru that weatherproof hose), I even used one when I installed 8-track stereo systems in cars as a teenager about a million years ago.
very thorough installation guide, and great video editing. super fast and to the point.
Thiv video helped me a lot, I had a problem making the reverse gear engage the video in of the android sistem, and due to this explanations I realised how to fit the cables. Thank you, good work!
How?
[ Note: If you use other independent 12 power(such as 12 V ride-on toy battery) to power the camera on and not connect black wire to the battery negative end, your camera will never run.]
3)Do not cut factory cable of reverse light.
Dang… This is awesome man🙌
Complex job Very simply done and with seamless ease.
Plus To the point.
Liked it… Keep Bringing em on 🙌🙌
I just popped out my radio thanks to the help of your video I also have a very similar if not the same radio and for whatever reason the main 3 connections don't fit only 1 out of 3 fit yet it says the model fits 2006-2012 and I have a 2008 but the connections just don't fit luckily the original when back in perfectly and quickly!
They probably send you the wrong connector for your car. You might find the right connector at Walmart just search for your vehicle.
@@AdonayLopez thanks I'm just gonna return the unit to the seller on ebay I was only gonna put the unit and GPS in I wasn't sure about the backup camera since my rav4 has a sub in the back I would have to work around to get the camera installed.
That’s a lot of work. And you do nice work. What you’re showing me here in the vid is that i’m going to hire it out!! lol
It is more complicated than what I though :)
You guys are joking right?
Okay, I was coming to say what you're said. I'm cracking up! 😂 I'm assuming at this point that this video is for people who already do this type of stuff, cause, HONEY! 🙅🏾
@@gress12000 Hell no, not me at least. You ain't see him just take this car apart?! 😬😄
It's so easy it sad. It doesn't require rocket science.
Very good instructional video. It saved me a lot of time. Placement off GPS antenna is very good, almost out of view. Thanks.
Gracias hermano! Thank you for the instructional video. Did a 2008 Rav4 this evening, different Android, but same concept and it worked perfect! Thank you again!
I just did this on my 07 rav4 a few days ago. I wish I’d seen this video first. I definitely would have borrowed a few techniques. Great video!
It it lasts 3 years 🤞I’ll be very happy. It’s pretty great so far. Only wish there was a boot up Lock Screen and a way to update android os
Were you able to connect the steering wheel controls?
@@MC4D. My car wasn’t equipped with steering wheel controls. However, i can control the volume, pause/play, skip, and back functions from my apple watch 😃
I’m still loving this radio btw. Super happy with it.
How did you do it?
@@andystube3405 I put GPS antenna on a bit of plastic under the upper air vents.
@@BlackLung911 thanks for the quick answer. I meant the reverse trigger wire. How did you connect the camera wire to this trigger?
@@andystube3405 I found in my case the reverse trigger needed to be connected to a 12 volt to 6 volt converter as OEM camera is 6 volt. I bought a front & rear camera online then wired rear to the reverse light at the rear. What car do you want to do this on? Year model & make, I will check & get back to you ASAP.
@@BlackLung911 Mine is 2008 rav4, and I bought the same backup camera as in the video. Thinking of how to skip opening the back panel and reverse light assembly. Thank you anyway.
great job! this vedio is from 2 years ago, I cannot open your ebay link for radio part, is there any new radio model and can you share the link on ebay or amazon? thanks!
Just finished installing using this video tips
Works perfect
Thanks
Thankyou for the effort you put into this
Is plug and play with the original harness up front on the back you have to tap into the reverse light wire to activate the camera on the radio.
So the steering wheel controls work?
Thanks a lot for the video! For the microphone it come with it what you do?
Thank you
where did you get your system from> what year rav4 do you have>
Clear video, What is the radio brand?
This looks so cool! I was planning on getting a Nissan Juke and getting a navigation system installed. Thanks for such a great video!
Thank you for the video. I followed and it worked especially just with stripping cables. I had t tap connector and it didn't work. I also required an addition electrical wire from the Reverse light. I am happy with my head unit. I don't know if it's just mine but the synchronization is a little off with Bluetooth.
Hi you, thanks for your super Video that Help me a lot 💪 With your help I installed the radio in my Rav4 today
Thanks
Greetings from Germany
Great video. What model back up camera radio is that? I have a 2011 Rav4 and would like to purchase the right radio to install.
Good job bro I will do same thing next two weeks just waiting for delivery 📦
Great video. I would jus advise use a cable splicer instead of cutting your vehicles wiring. Connectors are available so you don't have to cut wires and give a more secure connection.
Excellent video! You did an amazing job and now I think I have the courage to try to do it myself.
Awesome video. Very detailed. By the way, is your head unit has carplay? If not, can you get something that can make carplay works? Thanks
Hi, thanks for this video, quick question, did you need a canbus decoder ?
Great video!
Do you have the actual link for the radio unit?
Just curious have you found the link?
Hi, do you have the exact name/model of the radio and back-up camera, or do you have any updated links? The ones provided in the description either go to empty eBay listings or error pages. Thank you for this video!
Yes I need company and model name
You are the best, thank you very much. I will try with my rav4 2007 sport. Saludos desde Guatemala.
All the details I needed, you’re the Best!
Great instruction on the camera install. Just wonder what head unit that is? Links in the description do not work. Thanks.
I'm doing a 360 set of cameras on my '07- hoping the offset rear camera doesn't screw up the calibration.
This is my dream car im gonna drive this car when I’m tall enough
Is this unit still sold? I have a 2010 RAV4, good vid man!
I wish this was out when I did my after market install! Great video.
I followed the video and it's resulted an amazing job. Thank you really!!
Great video! I just picked up a 2008 Rav4. I like your seat covers! Where did you get them? Having trouble finding some I like…
Got them at O'Reilly Auto Parts
@@AdonayLopez Right on. Thanks!
Thanks. I only needed to just do the radio, and that's all I needed.
Thanks for this video! I tried doing this install myself but I couldn't get the AM radio to work. How did you get yours to work?
The head unit does not have AM.
Great video thanks for putting all the instructions together. Can you plz share the exact name of Android radio that you installed? Im planning to change my Rav4 2010 radio.
where did you buy that audio system? I need one for my rav4 2010. You did a nice job!
This was very helpful. Thank you so much! Do you know how to improve the UI theme on this one? The default one is kinda ugly.
Could you provide the radio model again? The link doesn't work.
One more question. If there is a built-in camera, does it work with this device?
Camera black wire is just a negative wire. It can be connected anywhere to the frame :) leave back lights lamps alone :)
Awesome job man, very well explained.
Would you recommend this unit? Any issues/dislikes? I see one selling on ebay around $130 and I am hesitant on the quality.
the quality its ok, it does allot for the price. I like it so far.
Hermano, muy buen video pero necesito la lista de las canciones que usaste! Jaja Un abrazo.
Do you have any more links to the products? It’s no longer available
I am an artist and the best, thank you
I don't even have a car why tf am I watching this?? Me: Keeps watching lmao
Great vid and explanation. Unless I missed it though, is there a speaker for hands free phone?
Yes it’s built right on the stereo on the left side 👍🏼
Will any size screen fit any car? Or do you need a custom trim piece to hold it in place?
What size perfectly fit to rav4 2008 is it 9 inch stereo plz let me know Adonay
Manny thanks great job
Thanks a lot buddy, it saved me at least $100.
Nice work and very good price for such a good unit!
Does your headunit still works well?
Background music credits please! Beats are awesome! 👌🏾
thanks bro very good video..john from greece
Perfect installation! Very professional
Thank you so much 🙏
That's a lot of work dude
Hey man, i followed this install with my own car using your link amd its great! My only issue is theres no memory in the headunit so its dreadully slow. Have you experienced this? What was your solution if so?
Great job. Did you buy wire harness for aftermarket Android dash? Is it plug and play to the factory cables?
That all came in the box it was all plug and play
Great job
Very professional
That is excellent. I have a RAV4 2006. I’m sure it’s pretty much the same sequence and I also like to add it to a 2016 reverse camera in my MX 5ND Miata .. 0:30 is that possible? Where are you located?
nice video. I think I'd test it before putting all the trim back in place.
Great video. Made doing this in mine a breeze. Funnily enough I ordered the exact same radio. Nice touch with the usb cables too
What is the Modle Number of the Radio System that you installed in the car ?
How have you found the radio mate?
@@carlume5094 found it ok. can get a bit buggy sometimes and not function properly off steering wheel correctly sometimes. Also had to removed different interface as it seemed to muck it up a bit
@@Familiadude Cheers for the response.
Where did you buy the radio at
hey im trying to find a radio like that and the links don't work
