Awesome video Matt, love the review as always, regarding the seats, I have read from owners that you have to adjust the air pressure and dampening according to your weight for the seats to be effective, could’ve been that the person who had it before you weighed more and the seats were adjusted to their settings. Regarding the fuel economy, there’s no escaping the fact that it is running 33inch tires with a lot of ground clearance, neither is it shaped for fuel economy so the odds are definitely not in it’s favor 😂. Love the Tacoma tho, it’s definitely my favorite in this segment.
My uncle recently bought the GMC Colorado AT4X. I was SHOCKED at the quality of the suspension and brakes. Seriously. Stopped on a dime multiple times, ride quality was cloud-like without feeling floaty/boaty (but there is some body roll cuz it's got like a foot of ground clearance). I daily drive a Honda Civic Si and was very impressed with the drivability of something double the size. Plus, during a 5 hour highway trip from Hartford to Philadelphia, we got 20mpg, despite at least 30 minutes of rush hour stop-and-go. I also loved the interior, although I'm not a fan of digital gauges, and I thought the seat bottoms could've had more cushion. Pretty much everyone agrees the Ranger Raptor is the best truck around, but the Canyon AT4X is worth checking as well (it's just not nearly as fast). Honestly, that leaves the Tacoma TRD Pro in last place for me personally. It's too expensive, and I'd rather take a Frontier Pro4X fully loaded.
I have a 2021 TRD sport and even with very aggressive driving I still get 18 mpg. 23-24 if I’m taking it easy. 17 is crazy considering its turbo and hybrid
Hi Matt! I appreciate your video! I’ve had my TRD Pro for about a month now. I am loving it both on and off road! The seats, including the ISO Dynamic feature I feel really adds to the comfort and customization - agree, the bolstering alone is fantastic. Rear legroom is not a bother for me, as I rarely have rear passengers. Love the 14” screen, especially while using CarPlay - a game changer for navigating with Google Maps and OnXOffRoad! My one complaint too is the gas mileage. I am also just getting on average about 17.3 miles/gallon. Granted I have a Westcott Design’s additional 1” collar lift, running 35” RT tires, 17” wheels. I have been using the gas economy setting in “Normal”, and yet to try “Econo” mode to see if it improves. I would also like a larger gas tank for more range during wheeling excursions. But, overall am very pleased with this new trim!
That said, no truck does well on gas spinning 35s. Can’t imagine how low a previous gen Tacoma gets on 35s with the same driving habits. And that’s without having nice things like torque.
I never thought a truck could be such a joy to daily. Usually trucks are just blah, but my 24 Taco TRD sport seems like it was built for a fun driving experience. Great little rig.
Sounds like the MPG of the new pro is very similar to the old one, BUT the old TRd Pro ran a 16” wheel with 31.5” tires. The new one with the 18” wheels and 33” tires def doesn’t help mileage.
Good honest review. Marketers have won over the engineers on latest Toyotas. Over priced, cheaply made, gimmicks, small overly complex engines with false advertising MPG to book. I see a class action or EPA recall coming with those terrible numbers.
I like the new Pro, although the glossy fender flares and bumper trim is silly on an off-road focused vehicle.....scratch magnets. Also, the iso seats should be an option....I wouldn't want them, as neat as they are...I'd rather have the increased rear seat legroom. Typically, Tacomas prove their value with long term reliability but too soon to tell...so that's an unknown. The fuel economy? Well, the hybrid system, in this application is mainly to provide more power to the smaller displacement 4 cylinder engine....coupled with big heavy tires, 17 MPG ain't that bad. My '23 V6 Pro gets about 16 MPG with 34s, so I'd be happy with the increased power/responsiveness of the new Pro with slightly better fuel economy. The price? Yeah, kinda crazy....but all new trucks are silly expensive...
Stance is wicked but so is that price, yikes. Love everything aethetically minus the gloss fender flares which don't seem like they'd do too well if you actually off-roaded this.
@@im_an_alvani Never mind off roading, just general use…I saw a new Pro at my local dealer a few weeks ago and there were a ton of swirls/scratches on the gloss fender flares, probably from the dealer “detailer”. I can’t imagine the amount of scratches after going out on the trails.
I’m not really a truck guy, but the price of this or most all midsize trucks doesn’t make much sense to me. I decided to see what an F150 would cost me. I picked an XLT SuperCrew with a V8. Spec’d it out relatively nicely with just under 15k in options and it came out to about 67k. thats what this Tacoma costs.
Feel like if they made those seats, the power tailgate as options it could save $2,000 off the already 'too' high MSRP, considering my '20 TRD PRO MSRP was just over $46,000. I'll keep my V6 which doesn't require Premium fuel like the new Tacoma's
How disappointing with the fuel economy. Those 4C Turbo's really aren't all that great compared to the V6's on fuel economy. What were they thinking with those cupholders. Like they put them in backwards.
They are better. Main improvement is the low end torque is amazing. I live near the Wind River Range in Wyoming and I have a Turbo Ranger. Driving at elevation turbo is night and day better. Like I will never ever go back to a NA engine. EVER. Even if the fuel economy was exact same the performance is so much better.
@@drn13355 some people have a habit of comparing the old V6 epa ratings to the new 4cyl anecdotes of reviewers. Which is not an apples to apples comparison. Beautiful in and out but with those seats taking this from a compact truck to a sub compact, then asking 65k it’s no wonder why there’s turd written all over it. Toyota needs to move the back row 6 inches further away from the front so they can call it midsized with a straight face then you could at least justify the full size price by being able to put a child seat in it
For me one of the top criteria for a daily driver is cost, and in that category the TRD PRO fails miserably. Fuel economy is abysmal and purchase price is through the roof.
How can you say it’s an unknown if this truck will hold its value, I’ve been buying Toyota trucks for 20 years plus and they have always held their value. I sold my 2018 TRD pro for 41,500 with 33,000 miles on it And I bought it for 46K You will never get this kind of return on any other truck!
Only thing Toyota got right with this truck is the looks, interior and exterior. Interior looks good, but useless. Exterior, best looking mid sized truck. Everything else about the truck is a fail. Especially at that price.
That 2nd row spacing is claustrophobic and it wants to chop my legs off. They should've rethink about the design and extend it's 2nd row space. I cannot blame people going for Colorado, Ranger, Frontier and Canyon since they have huge space, the alternative will be 4Runner. Second the hybrids are literally Mechanic's worst nightmare, Many have been electrocuted by high voltage batteries as it has the voltage of an entire house. I would say diesel is the pure solution but your government is oversensitive
My old 2019 Tacoma was a QDR nightmare. Too much unscheduled maintenance. Tried a couple 2024’s and was overall underwhelming and the vehicle was loaded with mediocrity. Felt fragile and insubstantial.
17.4 mpg from a hybrid 4 cylinder is really bad. Turbo engines drink gas under boost. The previous gen with the 2.7L four cylinder (2TR-FE) with 4WD got 19 city/22 hwy/20 combined. Also noticed previous gen Tacomas are holding their value, almost appreciating when people started having problems with the new gen Taco. This 4 cylinder model is not going to hold as well as the previous gen, but at the end of the day, a Toyota truck is still a Toyota truck.
These are Way too much money, not worth it and they should have kept the V6. Does anyone else notice All the Toyota trucks that do this IForce Max hybrid set up are horrible on gas mileage. The new Tundra IForce Max is also horrible on gas mileage. A co worker bought the new Tundra with that Iforce hybrid set up and he said his V8 Tundra was better on the highway for mileage, he said the new IForce Max in Tundra only did two miles better in the city. He said wish he kept the V8. Looks like same goes for this new Tacoma, they should have just kept the V6, what is the point of a complex hybrid setup if the mileage is no better than the traditional engines. Very stupid.
I live near the Northern Wind River Range in Wyoming. I drive at elevation 7 days a week. Drive a turbo and then a NA engine at altitude. The turbo performance is light years better. I have a turbo Ranger. I am getting better gas mileage, but even if I wasn't. The low end torque is sick and I will take the performance improvement 7 days a week and two times on Sunday. 100K miles in no issues. You can call it "stupid" all you want. I could give two sh***.
Frankly this is moronic trim to buy…. As is any PRO model. They’re all awful value. TRD Offroad with minimal options is what the smart money does. Very, very few owners go somewhere that a TRD Offroad with decent tires can’t get to.
I only disagree with your opinion on the seats. They're supposed to be stiff, which is why you feel bumped because you're not an off roader type person. If you actually bothered to go off road, those seats actually work.
17.4 mpg is fucking horrible. I have a 2021 f150 powerboost....so bigger engine and bigger/heavier truck and I average 22 mpg on the trip computer and closer to 21 when hand calculated....Toyota is smoking Crack with this truck. This dinky 4 popper can't tow more than 6000 pounds (an f150 powerboost can tow 11 to13k in some case) and it gets horrendously fuel economy. Just like my 21 tacoma trd off road I sold prior to my f150 the tacoma is once again a truck I want to love but just can't look past the mountain of flaws. Toyota dropped the ball bad.
I can see you’re all disappointed with the Tacoma😁 If only there was a famous Toyota hater who predicted all over the internet that the Tacoma would be such a disappointment😂😉. Oh wait there was. And it’s me None of you listened yet you all attacked me with your nonsensical comments. But once again, you failed miserably to shut me down. But by all means, go ahead and continue your attacks on me with your ubiquitous “naveens a delusional toyota hater who owns a Camry.” comments. He may not be a journalist, but he sure knows his stuff” So what do you have to say now huh?😂
You buy this over a sensibly priced TRD Offroad model because you’ve got dummy cash to burn and want the clout. It’s not what the smart money chooses. This is marginally better offroad than a TRD Offroad with proper tires.

Only thing Toyota got right with this truck is the looks, interior and exterior. Interior looks good, but useless. Exterior, best looking mid sized truck. Everything else about the truck is a fail. Especially at that price.
Nahhhh no way he said the turbo is good for low end torque. You mean the thing that literally needs to spool up???
Nice truck... 65k..no freaking way
hhmm no way lol this is a 72k truck here in california with taxes included
It's not even a 1500, that is crazy priced!
75k for that is just unacceptable
can't make them all happy someone always going to complain about something
Toyota tacoma. Mama vera
TRD PRO seats 👎🏾 … price 👎🏾 … mpg 👎🏾 … ZR2 for the win
those clown red seats look like someones nightmare no thanks
Looks great but not worth the price. Ill stick with my boring ugly 22 Colorado Z71.
Matt, you look like your growing like the trucks are. Take care, not trying to be harsh but health comes first.
Wow. Can't imagine why someone would pay 66k for this over a full size truck. 17mpg hybrid, yikes!
@@blunderingknifereviews1028 my 2011 Avalanche LTZ has 156,000 miles with the 5.3 liter V8 averages 17. Lol.
My old 2019 Tacoma was a QDR nightmare. Too much unscheduled maintenance. Tried a couple 2024’s and was overall underwhelming and the vehicle was loaded with mediocrity. Felt fragile and insubstantial.
Whats qdr?
1 mile better than the V6 and you call it much better fuel economy?😂😂😂😂😂😂 and $5000-$10000 more than the year 2023 ?
This is a $50k truck, but there are a LOT of simps out there.
Like I said in the video, I did go off road on my initial drive and didn’t really feel anything there either.
I would buy a Yugo before that piece of junk.
I can see you’re all disappointed with the Tacoma😁
If only there was a famous Toyota hater who predicted all over the internet that the Tacoma would be such a disappointment😂😉. Oh wait there was. And it’s me
None of you listened yet you all attacked me with your nonsensical comments. But once again, you failed miserably to shut me down.
But by all means, go ahead and continue your attacks on me with your ubiquitous “naveens a delusional toyota hater who owns a Camry.” comments. Because those remarks are just going to fall flatter than pancakes in front of your faces. You’re getting proven wrong by the Toyota hater over and over. At some point you’ll have to start acknowledging “gee, maybe Naveen was right all along. Maybe we should have listened. He may not be a journalist, but he sure knows his stuff”
So what do you have to say now huh?😂
No V6 and to much good bye toyota 😂😂😂😂😂
The old 3.5L V6 was the worst dog ever. You’d be crazy to miss it. ZERO low torque.
Looks good but made in Mexico, no thanks
Mexican made Tacomas have had sky high reliability for many years. I wouldn’t let that be the sole factor.
The tacoma is hideous now.
😑😑😑
Electric/Hybird system is just useless and complicated.
You buy this over a sensibly priced TRD Offroad model because you’ve got dummy cash to burn and want the clout. It’s not what the smart money chooses. This is marginally better offroad than a TRD Offroad with proper tires.
Expect that ur engine ang trans will blow anytime!
I'll get a Pro 4X and save $15,000.
