Maybe it has more senses, I can't think of any right now. It is usual for some usual verbs in many languages to have various meanings. I understand the Turkish verb almak has meanings like to get, to acquire, to buy, maybe others I don't know of. And so on.
Çalmak has 2 uses to steal - Ahmet araba çalıyor.(Ahmet is stealing a car.) to play an instrument - Ben gitar çalıyorum(I'm playing a guitar) to play: oynamak Ben basketbol oluyorum.(I'm playing basketball) Selim satranç oynuyor.(Selim is playing chess.)
