      War in islam
      Is offensivse
Chapter 2, Verse 190: Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loves not transgressors.
      Is defensive
Some people say that ibn Taymiyah said that Jihad is only defensive and it is true that ibn Taymiyah said that but what he meant was we don't fight kuffar because of their kufr their aggression is what we fight

Ibn Taymiyah talks about the verses that talk about open ended war with kafir and he says must be contextualised by the history of the Prophet ﷺ and by the hadith Prophet ﷺ, treaty of the prophet ﷺ "
    11:50
The Prophet ﷺ said leave the Turks alone as long as they leave you alone
Leave the Abyssinians alone as long as they leave you
O you who have believed, fight those closest to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness.
