I remeber 3 years ago i saw this, and it was the first time I saw a sweep picking video or even found out what that was. I thought this was the coolest guy in the world lol. It's cool to stumble upon this again and actually understanding. I can sweep pick now yay lol
Dude, not only do you explain things very well, your tone is killer and your vibrato is sick! I am trying to ween myself off of the ol' whammy bar and just vibrato with my fingers. I grew so dependent on the bar, I lost all my finger strength. Your technique is my ultimate goal. Thanks for the post.
thanks for this howie. i told myself i was going to add sweeps to my arsonal, and this was the first video/tutorial i found. it took about three months for me, but i can finally pull these when our band practices.
Howie, thanks for making this video available :) I have been trying to figure out how to do this, and this is very helpful! You're an awesome guitarist!
of all my years finding the how to sweep... this is the only one that fucken taught me how to sweep.... everyone thumbs up if this was the clip that gave you that foundation // outline...
Brutal! You are very articulate when explaining how things work. Easy to understand and a great practice session. Nice worn in axe too! Looks like its an old friend who has been with you from the git go
@NamelessThe I'm not sure if this will work well with this pattern, but for some other patterns i use, i find that if i mute the string i just played a note on with my right hand it mutes it quite nicely. But after you get the pattern down there isn't too much need for it.
having trouble with muting strings. how do i stop this? i tried palm muting but i just got a fully palm muted sweep n tht didn't do me any good... any tips??
hey can someone help me with this: i was thinking, i use 0.10 on mi guitar strings, and a dont know if is more harder to do sweetpicking?¿?¿ cause i fill very hard to do this , or its just that iam starting with this ?? btw i use a les paul model :S , and some one told me its a heavy guitar to do this, what do u think ?
Its an actual 1972 Strat loaded with Dimarzio Virtual Solo pickups. Actually, when this video was filmed, the pickups were called Virtual Vintage Solo and were a tiny bit different than the newer version.
@Guitarbaa Whenever you change directions in sweep picking, pick in the direction your changing to. So like you said on a sweep from the first to second to third back to second string, You'd pick up on the first, up on the second, down on the third, down on the second then up on the first.
i got some problems with the natural harmonics, when i remove my finger form the string it keeps sounding cause of the natural harmonics, what should i do to stop their sound??
That is sooooooooooooooooo amazing!!! You are so talented!!! I would love to learn to play the guitar :) I'll keep an eye out for more of your videos :)
Thanks. I had the A arpeggio raking thing down, but I never thought about sweeping it up and down. Did you lower the center p/u on your guitar flush to get it out of the way for picking? I find I pick right on top of it on my strat, and it bugs me being there.
@harmonicminorshred i just wanted an extension to this ..so i thought may be itll be a bigger exercise...but sweep has been a pain lol...never seem to get it.. :(
thanks a lot man ! This is exactly what i was searching for,now i can watch tutorials about it.Before i was searching like "how to make guitar scream" and strange results were coming ... now i got it,thanks :D
having some troubles with the pinky finger. my first time sweeping and im trying it at a slow speed, but my pinky doesn't allow that high "a" note to sound well, or else the pull-off is not cool. any suggestions?
Everytime I pull my finger off to keep a note from echoing while doing this exercise, the string vibrates as if it were a pull-off to an open string. What can I do to stop that? Are there any popular methods or anything?
12 years ago I watched this video. I still dream of having a Fender like this.
I remeber 3 years ago i saw this, and it was the first time I saw a sweep picking video or even found out what that was. I thought this was the coolest guy in the world lol. It's cool to stumble upon this again and actually understanding. I can sweep pick now yay lol

One of the best explanations I have seen yet, been struggling with this for years, keep giving up, but with this, hopefully I get it now... lmao
thanks for this howie. i told myself i was going to add sweeps to my arsonal, and this was the first video/tutorial i found. it took about three months for me, but i can finally pull these when our band practices.

what should u do when u lift off the string to play the other string, but when u lift ur finger the open note sounds?
Great tutorial dude! Clear, and very easy to follow explanation.

This was REALLY helpful!

Howie is great! I'm a "slowhand", but this kind of playin' I always wanted to learn, maybe now I will get more success with this lesson! :)
i got some problems with the natural harmonics, when i remove my finger form the string it keeps sounding cause of the natural harmonics, what should i do to stop their sound??
i tried the technique for silencing, but it doesnt work... do i kinda "flick. off or str8 up pull off?
That is sooooooooooooooooo amazing!!! You are so talented!!! I would love to learn to play the guitar :) I'll keep an eye out for more of your videos :)
I have a problem. I can go moderately fast but my strings sometimes ring out like a pull off... Do i just press the strings down harder?
Great instruction mate! Helped me out alot. Thanks:)
Is it better to do all hammer ons and pull offs on the high e string such as 13h17p13 or is it better to just pick the 13 and 17 seperataly?
Thanks. I had the A arpeggio raking thing down, but I never thought about sweeping it up and down. Did you lower the center p/u on your guitar flush to get it out of the way for picking? I find I pick right on top of it on my strat, and it bugs me being there.
is he dropped scale 1/2 a note?
such a guitar warrior!!!
I think the blue is cool! My vid has some cool sweep picking but after watching this, i have learnt something!
