      Work your favorite Yngwie lick to a metronome. Keep tye tempo the same, really drilling into the nuances of each note so you can do it cleanly. Part if Yngwie's charm is how cleanly he does things. So drill the details slowly and see hiw quickly your CLEAN speed improves! Once you've drilled it at your top speed, then leaving it there for like an hour or so, take a day or two and let your hand rest. Then see what your top clean speed is the next day! And that can I clue position shifts or whatever else happens in your favorite Yngwie lick. Sure it'll be boring when you're doing it, but then go back and listen to that track that he plays it in and listen to JUST HOW COOL IT SOUNDS! And then, you'll be able to do that!

  • @LeonTodd
    @LeonTodd 2 роки тому +16

    That Strat! It was interesting to see you play this hitting the pedal tone with a down stroke - I find it much easier to play them with an upstroke and feel the pedal tone as an upbeat, even if it's not on an upbeat. Am I weird?

    • @cowcat7816
      @cowcat7816 2 роки тому +4

      No, you're no weird: Yngwie does it that way (starting on upstroke). The notes on B string are downstrokes. The trick with Yngwie is that after this last downstroke, the movement needed to start the lick again (on upstroke) is simply ignored: Hand is brushed trough the first string and with the proper slant angle, pick is already down the string for upstroke. Is called "Swiping" (Troy Grady nomenclature).

    • @chrisgmurray3622
      @chrisgmurray3622 2 роки тому +3

      I also naturally start on an up stroke, but things like that are down to what feels best for your own hands.

    • @chrisking6695
      @chrisking6695 2 роки тому

      @@cowcat7816 No. You're so wrong. I don't know how anyone can get this so wrong after watching Troy's videos. Yngwie is an upstroke escape player and swiping is what you do to cross strings ( you cross the string that's muted with your fretting hand instead of utilizing two way pick slanting, double escape picking or economy picking).
      To OP: You probably play with a downstroke escape Angle so you naturally start on an upstroke so your pick is free to start the lick over on the E after you hit the B string.

    • @cowcat7816
      @cowcat7816 2 роки тому +1

      @@chrisking6695 Wrong about what ? You described the Yngwie way the same way as I said but with other words. And I "swipe" as much as I can being mostly an upstroke-scape player. And I do this Yngwie lick the same way as Yngwie does. You read my text the other way around ? Nothing wrong doing it the way as Robert does.

  • @RicardoAldana1988
    @RicardoAldana1988 2 роки тому +1

    It’s called fuga or fugue.. pedal tone or obstinato it would be a repeated single note between chords or harmony or a repeated figure on a on.. respectively! A fuga or fugue referred to a composition on three or more voices (rarely two) make sucesive entrances on imitation of the others.. kind of a “persecution” between the voices as we see and heard on this example!

    • @IshredGuitar
      @IshredGuitar 6 місяців тому +1

      You're right...its more melodic and natural to end each with a downstroke thus starting on an upstroke is a better alternate picking attack. Also to get a superior "vibrato" you must end on a downstroke.

    if you're going to play it as a repeating lick , it's better ( more efficient) to start with an upstroke because it makes the jump back to the pedal tone after the note on the B string easier because you will already be moving downward towards the next note.
