Let me point this out, everything category The Producers got nominated for, it won.
12 out of the 15 of them actually
@@ben-ji9tm Every category was won for them though. e.g. multiple actors for one category were nominated. Well deserved too, in my opinion
@@ben-ji9tm they lost those 3 to themselves, actually :)
The only one they didn’t get nominated for was Leading Actress. And that’s cuz they didn’t even have one. Think about that 🤔
It was so sweet that Nathan took Matthew up with him! That was very kind
Let's face it we all clicked on this video to see the producers wins

"The Producers" is so unique as a musical phenomenon. The musical roles almost tailor made for Nathan and Matthew (Mostel and Wilder were perfection in the original film). Mel Brooks managed to catch lightning in a bottle with this one. I doubt we'll ever see a revival and that's fine by me. This was PERFECTION in every single way. It deserved the record and I think it will hold onto it forever. My top tier favorite musical of all time.
isn't that up to Mel Brooks? (yeah even Hamilton couldn't catch up to it) considering he couldn't catch lightning a second time with Young Frankenstein
When they started doing shows with tap dancers again. They had a hell of job finding dancers who could tap because no one was learning to tap anymore. It all was 'modern dance'. They had to advertise all over the USA to get enough dancers to do the shows.
That's not true at all. There have always been, and always will be, plenty of top-notch tappers in NYC. 42nd street might have cast from all over the country, but it's not because nobody in New York knew how to tap. Come on now.
SJP, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick...simply NYC legends
Somehow, Nathan Lane breaking character at "even the moon fears me" cracks me up.
The way Nathan drags Matthew on stage with him is very endearing
Producers cleaned house
no musical has broken that record yet, though Hamilton came close to tying it last year
And deserved every award imo!
@@iHeartsNostalgiaPit Actually, "Hamilton" was going to potentially BEAT "The Producers" in award wins by one award if the show won all of them. The reason being is that "The Producers" was NOT nominated for the Best Leading Actress in a Musical category whereas "Hamilton" DID get the nomination for that category.
Nathan and Matthew were fantastic hosts, wish there was more of them. 😊 Maybe they could do it again, they still got it after all... 👌
Anyone but NPH.
This was the first Tonys I ever watched. I believe The Producers deserved most of what it's got.
But I also feel the Full Monty deserved a lot more. And Seussical was sadly underrated.
Me too.
1:15:30 Nathan Lane wins his award, drags Matthew Broderick out with him lol
Best tony awards ever !!
From 0:00 to 2:10 = now that's how to kickstart an award show like the Tonys. I bet the people in the subway (the ones not involved) were looking at the 42 street dancers thinking "Is this what flash mobs are like on Broadway?". What do you think they were thinking during the performance?
Nathan Lane is a fantastic actor. Able to play in all genres of movie.
Love him. Shame Hollywood.
Is so underrated.
❤️❤️😂
My favorite part of this is that someone turned Alice Ripley's mic up to high heaven.
Right lol, I literally watched this because I knew she was in that performance and that was quite a nice surprise. Her "oh my god!!!" at the end? She's just too perfect
@@briellec7173 Dear me...this didn't age well...
Viola Davis performance was beautiful!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love love LOVE Gary Beach
They are the perfect hosts :)
Matthew Broderick has always been otherworldly
OMG my band director was in Blast! In 2001, and it won a tony award! He has never told anyone, so I'm like freaking out!!
Nathan Lane is fantastic, simply put!
It was Worth it just to see The AMAZING Dame Edna!!!! xoxoxoxoxo
Bless you, MissPoochSmooch. Bless you.
"oh man I love the producers"
harvey weinstein shows up
me: ...
Yeah that didn’t age well.
Anne Bancroft, Mel Brooks, Alice Ripley and Lea DeLaria yes!
The actress playing the nurse in Cuckoos nest is Amy Morton, who plays Trudy Platt in “Chicago Pd”.
Gwyneth presenting for the role she would eventually play.
29:26 The Full Monty
Hey, everyone! Meet Viols Davis!
Viola: *Drops grenade, defines career, walks away
1:21:41 - BEST MUSICAL
I was phasing the Tonys out of my life by this time, or actually already had, I didn't watch all of this, but what I remember it for now, more than anything else, is it was the last Tony award show before 9-11.
Of course, since then, there has been a Tony award show after the Pulse nightclub shooting, as well as a Grammy award show after Whitney Huston's death.
Why don't they have play performances anymore?
Probably because A) the producers of the show have to pay for the air time and plays are small-budgeted, and B) they make even less sense out of context than the musical sequences do.
Aw, it's kinda sad seeing Anne alongside Mel, just a few years before she died.
I kinda like how they just front-loaded all the musical performances so then the cast can all come out and celebrate while they're still in costume. Imagine if Rocky Horror had won...
The opening number I’m still amazing
The little old lady on the (audience's) right of the bench in The Producers number looks a little like Frankie Howerd!
Look again. That's Shirley Markowitz. 😁
The Full Monty number is so epic for the Tony Award at this time (not super usual to see nudity on stage and with a so much good reception of the audience)! Clearly the performance where audience were having the most fun ! They should have win more Tonys... and especially considering the fact that it was one of the plays that was performed during the harsh period of the terrorist attacks of 2001-09-11. They helped put a smile on people's faces at that time.... Too bad it was never really recognized!
If the Producers wasn't out? It's a fight between 42nd and The Full Monty. And not going to lie The Full Monty just has a more compelling story to me.
Matthew Broderick, you have successfully made Nathan Lane break. How does that make you feel?
Viola Davis, I mean always powerful, but good lordie! 2023: I wish SCOTUS could hear that speech. That was amazing. Also, how has she not aged? What a great show.
Mel Brooks is the GOAT of comedy.
I love Follies brilliant musical
48:16 OMG! I can’t believe it! It’s James Barbour as Edward Rochester. I LOVE him so much. He is one of my favorite stage actors.
Tony, Tony, Tony
Viola Davis is outstanding. She deserves it now she EGOT now this year.
Sheer bliss⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"there will never be a bigger hit" Hamilton is typing....
Lol. But hamilton received just as many nominations as the producers, but couldn’t beat the record!
Nor SHOULD it have!
This is the first year with out a tony's
The new musicals featured here are promising, with the exception of the Pseudo-Sondheimesque "Jane Eyre."
My eyes arent what they used to be. What does the second to last line on the S4H sign say?
Who played Riff Raff in the Rocky Horror Show performance?
Raul Esparza
No, that's definitely not Raul. If you listen to him on the cast recording or any bootleg videos, he has a completely different sound.
I believe it's Mark Price, Broadway's original Pepper in Mamma Mia!.
27:36 - Proof
Do you have tony awards 2000?
1:06:54 lord varys :o
1:28:50
ah Sara Ramirez
Too many RIPS to list most recently Barry Humphries aka Dame Edna aw jeez the last pre-9/11 award shows (wait when did the VMA Awards air?)
Timon and Simba reunited at last
Oh Matthew, Hairspray, Wicked, Book of Mormon, Matilda, and Hamilton would like a word with you
and he goes from Simba to Scar like that
6:27 gee too bad they weren't airing Inspector Gadget or it could have been a triple feature (I kid though I grew up on the cartoon I actually enjoyed the film, and since it was an origin story....yeah you wonder why Penny didn't have her computer book yet?)
man I feel bad for most of these musicals they didn't stand a chance against The Producers
oh they got the revival categories out of the way fast
But Frank-n-Furter doesn't participate in the Time Warp number (unless it was adjusted for here)
I feel like there's an alternate timeline where Full Monty pulled off a upset Avenue Q style win
geez it Nathan and Matthew are hosting and they've barely been on
Reba didn't you take it over from Susan Lucci?
crap audio starts when the pre-show winners montage starts
Sidney Glazier would pass away more than a year after this aired I do feel bad for Mel Brooks he's outlived a majority of the people he's worked with including his own wife
They could have used that Survivor joke during the main show
Man David Yazbek had the worst luck he was up against the producers, he was up against the book of mormon, good thing the Band's Visit WAS the big threat of the Tony awards when he finally won (rock musician? before you finally got that Tony your best known work was co-writing a little 90s ear worm that was the theme to a game show that aired on PBS....and I don't think I need to say which one it is because what other kids game show aired on the network) I find it hilarious that Yaz would late beat out the people that wrote another Let It Go
well at least we got to hear Heather Hedley here we could have the previous year if Aida was up for best musical
I’m sorry... this is PG?!?!?
49:42. James Barbour?? 😍😍😍😍😍
Matthew boasting at the begining sounds just like Drumpf nowadays. Sad ! :P
20 anos. Chuuuupen nutela's click bait!
Congratulations to Victory Gardens Theatre! A perfect example of what a modern theater company should be! I can't see anything stopping them now!!! No siree!!!
I'm glad The Producers won instead of that disgusting Full Monty! Sorry, but it's my opinion!
4:36 and then Hamilton hit..
producers still has more tonys though
Hamilton only appeals to Americans.
Hamilton is the most overrated musical ever
