robert smith is an amazing songwriter. this here is proof, the song still holds up under a completely different sound.
No way miles out destroyed it !
Uhhhh...no. This version doesn't hold anything but a massive turd.
@@eldoabrahamson Robert Smith has changed the way he plays it live, on the back of Dino Jr's version. He's a big fan.
@@zootv1746 Couldn't agree more, it's an abomination!
@@eldoabrahamson J apologizes for melting your face off with his soloing.
the sound of that bass......I could live in that sound
Was thinking of selling ,my Ricky bass, not now!
I swear he is playing 1 string and having to mute the other 3 because how hard he plays... It's mindblowing
@@stevedalberg8465
He’s also playing chords in parts of the song.
Same here, lololol!❤
dat bass tone
good ole Lou
Mr. Barlow and the low end
As a Cure AND Dinosaur Jr fan, this was a dream come true!
This song is how I originally got into Dinosaur Jr. When I was in my teens someone left a cassette single (😂) of this in my Ford Festiva. I don't know who it belonged to but it got me hooked on J Mascis so god bless 'em. 💚
One could say this is just like heaven
Just like a dream??
@@nnsph2 Just like a dream
This has been covered by them forever ago
Lou is a seriously underated player. He does a Lemmy but tighter, playing bass and rhythm at the same time, very tricky with a track like this which has such an important bass riff AND rhythm guitar line. In a trio it gives them the foundation to allow J to do his thing, and J is a considerably better and more esoteric gutarist than the late great Wurzel.
The only three piece band to have twelve eyes.
4-eyed gang where you at????
hate to break it to ya but check out pet symmetry from Chicago illinois
@@atom_jack Chicago always has the best bands
ba dum BUMP!
brb gonna buy a jazzmaster real quick
I literally did just that! No joke, this video was substantially “instrumental” (see what I did there) in my decision to purchase my Jazzmaster a few months ago! One of the best decisions I’ve ever made, I highly recommend!
got an American professional jazzmaster, had to finance it but worth asf it’s beautiful and plays and sounds amazing
If only rickenbacker's were that easy to find
Way behind the times here, but Harley Benton sell a great Jazzmaster copy @ Thomann.de
Save yourself some cash.
I think that's the same one he had in 1991 The Year Punk Broke
That bass tone is sick.
This man saved guitar solos for me. I don’t hate them anymore. Thanks lil dinos
They’ve always been good, j just does it right
Omg I'm the same way.
45 yrs old and i need this song in my life more than i needed it the first time DJr covered it when i was in high school. Thank you.
I’ve been a Cure fan since the very early days, if you going to do a cover version give it a totally different vibe or don’t bother, Dinosaur Jr nailed it.
Good point. I feel like there are two kinds of people--those that expect it to sound identical or better than the original, and those like yourself. I often think it should be a fresh take on the original if you're gonna cover it. Otherwise, why cover it, right?
I have seen both versions. I believe that mimicking an artist is flattering and not necessarily a bad thing. Having said that, I agree the song should somehow be your own version. Perfect example: 311's cover of "love song."
@@MusicForTheBroken Yep…good point, as well
Also, my #1 rule is a cover can't be slower than the original
I agree, have you heard The Cure’s version of Purple Haze? Same thing, they make it a Cure song.
Dinosaur Jr. is starting look more like Dinosaur Sr..
Jason Hayes Last time I heard that joke I fell off my dinosaur
Jason Hayes lmao
I like em better this way

This is cool because you know that 99% of the bands that KEXP has these days are heavily influenced by Dinosaur Jr. Loud jazzmasters with lackadaisical vocals
🥾👀
Heard this band from radio in 90's. Now 20 years later they still keep going.
Lou strums but is hitting single notes with precision but loose like a caboose
Im so confused is he playing chords or actually playing single notes
@@MrPieman00 Yes.
He's doing a little bit of both, but he's mostly playing single notes by muting three of the strings with his left hand so he can hit the individual notes as loudly as possible.
@@phildanus6962 I know I am a few months late, but that response was epic. 🤣
@@MrPieman00 both for sure
Murph always counts in slower than the actual tempo
Better than most drummers rushing the beat
I prefer a slow drummer to a fast drummer
What a voice, so iconic and idiosyncratic. Whenever I come back to Dinosaur Jr. that feeling his voice evoked in me when I first hear them comes back. Not sure about the screams though.
I love this song everytime I hear it it makes me think about my girl shes my bestfriend and I'm glad i got to spend the last 10 years with her
Been with mine for 24 years.
Coolness. I stopped listening to music in general about seven years ago because nothing out there struck a chord with me. Now I have a reason to listen again. Thanks for the heads up! :)
Both versions are good, but if you were a skater in the early 90's you'll know the Dinosaur Jr version. 👍
Yes!!! The good times
If you were a skater in 90s you would know the album ‘boys don’t cry’
This is my favorite cover of it. I ended up with the vinyl for free sent from SST back when I had a music zine and Greg asked me to review it. One side is etched in the vinyl with various sketches of insects and junk. When they played this live at Small Planet my ears rang for days and It could barely speak from singing along. Best show ever.
I still have their SST RECORDS catalog and poster hanging up on my wall. Along with a cassette from 88 of there previously released singles. These men are the wizards of college radio and punk rock.
Good lord this kills, and I’m just stumbling on this now. Their new record is a masterpiece.
Henry!👊🏻🤙🏻
and THIS is how you cover a song !!
no
@@henriqueyoh Yes
oh man...you should check out GWAR to Kansas's Carry On Your Way.
you've got it backwards. the Cure covered this song. anyone who says otherwise is delusional or living in some type of alternate universe
Vintage Lazer XD
Focking love this cover I have to blast it every time!!!!
J Mascis's guitar solos are face melting.
Love the way Murph starts with headphones on and totally manages to lose them at some point.
What a great rendition of this classic tune. J can make any song his own.
Yeaa so Awsome thank you the singer of a band called Gravel gave me tape back 1993 and it was a dinosaur Junior mixtape I spread it around and it was a soundtrack to our lives . I love this band Ryt on
This is Absolutely Beautiful!
Dinosaur Jr has been my Fav 25 years now
Two of my favorite bands in one shot.
I love watching Lou play bass!
i got goosebumps while listening to this, what an amazing band!
Simple, so complex, just everything, what a brilliant noise. Some in live always brilliant. Love from UK
Super group along with the Melvins !,,, super
Such an amazing cover
Lou's scream at the end had me rolling haha
Lmao it sounds like he stubbed his toe or something
Black metal
You mean henry rollins!
They used to be a hardcore band with Lou singing
It's so weird to hear this cover without the abrupt ending like on record.
i always wondered why they made the choice to have it end like that
@@tobiastolls126 apparently it’s because they ran out of tape
@@UncleBooty thanks
I'm in love with this...must have been asleep for years that i have not seen this before.
D Jr are awesome - and that bass playing is beyond words!
Great band covering great band. So many memories. Where have good times gone to?
The good times are in the river of memory, the soil of tomorrow, the air of today. Breathe them in. They haven't gone anywhere.
give them to the next. keep what you need
They’re still here, Stefan! In ten years, you’ll say that about these days. :)
@@teslagirl1 nicely worded and a fine outlook. But in the spring of 2020, we be breathing through masks trying to avoid teargas, pepper spray and COVID-19. (The Cure and Dino Jr. are helpful).
@@jcdc1824 Both fine remedies. Add Roy Orbison and the Cranberries to that, tho.
Mascis is so criminally underrated as a guitarist. He’s so fucking good. The solos on, Get Me, are some of the most beautiful and emotional solos I’ve ever heard.
cant sing for shiit tho
such an amazing cover, love y'all!!
this will never get old
Fecking brilliant!
Absolutely glorious!
Thank you guys for this.
still loving this in 2020
GOOD COVER I LOVE THE CURE AND BECAUSE OF THIS I LOVE DINOSAUR JUR TOO LOVE FROM ARMENIA
I'm proud to be from the same state as these guys.
Lee Ricciuti mass?
I found out J lives in the same town as the college I go to it blew my mind
Going to see them tomorrow, can't wait!
Can you still hear?
Best cover ever.
Still awesome J, Lou & Merv! proper dinosaurs now but still rock like raptors!
I like how in the studio recording the song ends suddenly because they ran out of tape, but when they play it live they still decide to end the song in the same awkward part
Awesome rendition!!!
Wow, that makes me wanna learn BASS. That was sick. Great song.
Still got it after all these years
This is everything !
THIS is skate punk, and this is be the best thing ever man
Lou has found the fountain of youth ..... he hasn't aged in 20 years.
Love it !! Awesome !! Great cover !!
YO !!!!!!!! LOL
The Rick tone holds it all together. Lightning in the bong.
i've loved the way that their version of this song ends so abruptly. it freaks me out bit. its so cool
Love this so much
Awesome. LOVE LOVE Dinosaur Jr:))
The Best Cover !!
Great cover !!!!
amazing cover, loved seeing the camera pan round to Henry Rollins at the end there too all of a sudden haha
And this is how you cover a song. I still prefer The Cure's but still very cool.
Greatest band of all time.
I love the ever so slightly changed the melody of the song and made it their own
J'adore !!!!!
Such a unique and amazing take on Robert’s iconic song
What a SUPER TIGHT band. Awesome.
This is amazing on many levels. This isn't a one-off: Dinosaur Jr. released their cover of this incredible song in 1989 - and when I heard it on Steve Aldrich's Clambake radio show on WLAV... it got me into both Dinosaur Jr. and The Cure.
I HAVE THE 45 STILL
Great band - i loved !
Wow that was amazing
That guitar tone is fucking brilliant
Friggin awesome. Love it. ^_^
Added this to a couple mix tapes In my day.
Damn I could listen to Lou Barlow play bass all day.
Still amazing ... this made my day :D
There's nobody in the world who can so artfully pretend not to know how to play a guitar
This is "Just Like Heaven" from Dinosaur Jr.
-Robert Smith❤ RESPECT
Best band ever!!!
They did it again! I thought I would get the full version this time
i was there. amazing.
I love it!!!!!
This is so beautiful 🥺God i love this! If you aren't familiar with both bands, you wouldn't understand.
Amazing intro - loved it
OMG that Bass is so badass fierce sounding!
They're my favourite trick 😍 💓🔥
No puedo creer cómo es que algunas personas le hayan dando el dedo abajo a este gran cover.
en serio? yo pensaba que la gente prefería el version de Dinosaur Jr mas del version del The Cure
Great guitar, and great cover
what a cover!
superb!
So cool!
this song is just like heaven....literally
J Mascis melted my face one time and I kinda liked it
J and Robert should make an album together.
Neat. Thanks.
