This is lke a breath of fresh air to those, me included, who were let down by the lack of information from Korg - or anywhere else explained in such a logical, distinct manner. Thank you for uploading this.
Same thing for Microkorg. I downloaded the manual few years ago, and was glad to see the amount of information inside. You even have some synthesis lessons on it lol ! And indeed, the electribe 2 is such a crap. It lacks many important information and you have to search on forums and stuff... Not really cool.
Fully agree. I'm late to the game but I just bought this thing and was clueless since the manual is SPARSE to say the least! Very grateful for this video.
And thr same here for this guy ..... suchba wonderful machine loaded with possibilities but i also find it frustrating as hellb!! Every time I want to get rid of it, I find something new n cool and changed my whole demeanor on it
I still love and use my Electribe 2 Sampler in 2024 (I bought mine in 2020). Yes, there's some annoying things about it, but the results are great, and more than worth the negatives. Theres nothing as portable, with these features and great sound even today. They go stupid cheap secondhand too, grab yourself a bargain while you can, prices will only go up from here!
Awesome short video!! I'm old school, I just got the ES2 sampler the other day. I got the chop down (which is great), now the effects (with you), and on to pattern sequence and your tips and tricks. Thanks!! You're a smart guy...
This is exactly what I was looking for. A graphical (frequence) based explanation on what is happening behind the scenes. Thank you so much! Great job!
Probably the most comprehensive Electribe tutorial I've seen... definitely shed some light features I was in the dark about! Thanks so much for posting!
you did an excellent job with this! those waveforms really help drive your point home. the e2 is still my favorite box; there's so much potential in it!
3 years after you made this video, I just randomly saw a link to it on UA-cam. I was previously of the thought that these grooveboxes were garbage in comparison to the previous Electribes. You have just shown me that the similarities are greater than the differences. I recall being very turned off when they were released because of a lack of song mode, but after seeing this, I'm kinda hoping I can find one used or something.
I really have to thank you for your time putting this together. I've been curious about synths but intimidated by what's going on behind the scenes. Your interpretation is on point, and the visual aids of the oscilloscopes helped more than I could have imagined. I hope korg picks you up to make more videos, but I'll definitely be watching your channel from now on. Thanks!
I'm a newbie thinking of getting a groovebox and tending to the Electribe due to its flexibility, and I now finally have a feeling what it actually can do. Also, I saw some people complaining about the envelopes always resetting which really was a big disadvantage, but thanks to your video I now know it's just the Poly/Mono setting. So this one was a big step towards a positive decision for the Electribe -- should be featured on Korg's homepage :D Thanks a TON!
Wow. Awesome. Would love a follow-up where you create a few sounds and give some sense of HOW to use these different parameters. I fiddle and fiddle and create sounds that sound like crap where other people seem to coax such cool colors from this machine.
+big eastern syndicate Thanks very much - I have a video planned that will address some of those things, but meanwhile you can check out just general tutorials about synth sound design because the way that the Electribe generates sounds is very similar to other Subtractive Synths - i.e. oscillator -> filter, envelopes & LFOs -> effects - it's been that way since the Minimoog in the 70's. If you have a PC load up a simple synth VST with patches and have a look how the patches you like are configured. Hope this helps, and stay tuned
Ordered both of these as a Christmas presents for myself this year. SO much better than socks 😍😂 Very convenient for something like a travel around the south east Asia on a Norwegian disability check, saving $1000 every month (up to 6 months every year) 😎😎😎
Thanks! Yeah i was planning to get that next month. And thanks a lot for explaining how you need to play legato to keep the modulation going..! Was a "little" confusing when just experimenting...
I've always wondered why Korg didn't implement the motion sequence in a way that allowed you to record the movements in a continuous loop until you were happy with the results and could then drop out of record. It feels like a race knowing that you have to get it right straight away.. Great video BTW..
This, and all your other videos I've watched, has proved *extremely* helpful to me - thanks!! 🙂 One Q for all y'all Electribe users - is it a constant race to make your changes before the display goes back to "Init Pattern" (or whatever you pattern's name is)? I find it extremely distracting. Yes I can go into the menus and make changes there, but what if, say, I'm on a sound and I want to change the filters (ore FX send or pretty much anything!) by, you know, twisting some knobs? My changes are made, but the display keeps jumping back to the pattern name.... the manual doesn't mention this at all 😕
Thanks for the detailed explanation! Can each track have different insert fx? How hard are these fx on the CPU of the Electribe? Have you ever had any issues with running out of polyphony because of the effects?
Hi, I have the Sampler version and have found over the years that even though I try other grooveboxes I always come back to it and learn something new. I am considering buying the 'Synth' version now as I really like the sound design part of the machine better than the sampling side. Now I have always wanted to know what is the technical differences between the UNI, OCT, VPM, SYN etc versions of the oscillators?
+Soto thanks. I have a few more videos planned with stuff that I think is cool or non obvious but the Insert FX is not one of them? What in particular are you referring to that's hard to understand about them?
they arent really hard to understand, but i would like to see more detail about what they do. stuff like what does the ring modulator/decimator/ring delay/phaser/etc. do to the wavefrom/spectrum would interest me. sorry if that doesnt fit in the style of this series
You know if you can set cut groups in trigger mode?, for example, you want to play 3 samples that cut into each other (sound only one at the time), and at the same time drums that are not cut by the other sounds
Hi, I have a problem that you can not from my ELECTRIBE sampler delete any patterns? It's not working CLEAR SEQUENCE ??? I do not know what do with it :( thanks for the help and I have another question, sorry I have on my SD cart WAF and my data when I want a sound loaded from SD to Electrible. so the sound but I can use it when you save and turn off electrible and then turn on the mem pattern is no sound? thanks for the help :) sorry for my English !
The answers are in the DATA UTILITY MENU. For question 1: INITIALIZE PATTERN in the Data utility menu; for 2: Yes, EXPORT ALL SAMPLES. It's not intuitive, I agree, I wish they did it differently. The Electribe saves pattern changes automatically when you turn it off, but not new samples.
Great video and tutorial! I don't own the sampler but can you get around the lack of a sustain control (with the Amp/EG turned on) by setting a sample loop section within the sample? Would this cause the sound to "sustain" in the sample loop while the pad is held on and then fade out with the Decay/Release amount when the pad is released?
Hi so was watching you're video on the electribe 2 and was trying to assign a complete pattern to one pad and another pattern to another pad I know you said in trigger mode can set this up but it's not playing the complete pattern on one pad just looping single shots ? Any advice would be awesome thanks Tim
This is good and comprehensive video. Thanks for making and sharing it. I would like to know your opinion on Circuit vs ES2 sound. Which one sounds better to you?
I think it's a matter of taste - check out different videos on youtube to compare. In my view the Circuit wins on ease of use and pad quality (and flexibility of synth controls if you're willing to learn the Isotonik editor), but the end result, IMHO, of the E2 sounds better. Maybe it's the number of tracks or variety of different effects you can apply to different tracks.
+Mauricio Ossa Thanks! To your question - that's a hard one, very individual I think... what I would recommend is find a sound patch you like in another hard or soft synth and recreate it in the Electribe. The Electribe synth has all the core building blocks of a great synth - there's nothing you can't do with it I think - especially if you check out my other video about layering 3 oscillators/lfos/fx
thanks man, great explanation... really great chart & explanation/overview of the mod types also...super helpful to understand more about the unit...also appreciated the info on the EG int & it's connection to the A/R knobs ...didn't realize those interacted, esp w/o the EG light on. awesome tips! i have the grey one...so powerful...do you have both or just the sampler? have been wondering about a hardware sampler, but also not sure if i want 2 e2s or would swap mine out for the sampler... do you find yourself wishing for more oscillators on the sampler or is the stock amount provided sufficient? Cheers!
Peter Loomis thanks for the comment. If you’ve seen other vids on this channel I find myself wishing for more oscillators on a weekly basis, but I wouldn’t use me as a reference for anything but a serious synth addict
Thanks a lot for those awesome videos! I have a question regarding the "SLICE" function,...:/ I can slice my samples but haven't manage to play them once I'm in sequencing my sounds, can you please help??
why when i make a project a little more demanding i get stuck loading all the samples and i lose everything? I only have 18 samples left and I have to reset everything to factory settings
Salut ! Et moi jai une question a la con jai besoin d'un pc pour utilisée la korg ? Ou je peut directement la brancher mes enceinte et faire du live avec ce qu'il i a dessus ?
Apologies for the dumb question I'm about to ask but I've read the ES2 manual multiple times and can't find the answer. Q: How do I play/arrange sliced samples? I've got one of the demo patterns loaded and one of the triggers (pad 2) is a timesliced vocal sample. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how/where to access/sequence all but the first slice of that sample. What button/combo do I press to get all that sample's slices playable on the pads?
Just bought the ES2s and if find it a shame that I can't record an external instrument while a sequence is playing. For example, if I'm making a beat and I want to add an external piano/synth while the beat is playing, I can't record it, which I think is strange for a Music Production Station. What do you think? It doesn't even seem to be outputting any MIDI notes when recording a sample, so you can't even do something with that for recording syncronization. You are stuck with recording the sample and then inconveniently adjusting the starting point.
I'm not familiar with samplers that do what you say, but maybe I don't know that much... I think maybe you're looking for a looper alongside the E2S. A DAW like Ableton can certainly do that, or an iPad/iPhone app. If you find a sampler that does that let me know ;)
The Octatrack does! I know I can probably do it with the OP-1 in sync with the ES. But it would be really nice to be able to record something like a bass or guitar line while hearing the beat and/or metronome, wouldn't it?
Hey! Sorry to bother again. Do you know if it is possible to sync the OP-1 with the ES2 directly via USB? I mean by connecting one to the other, with a single USB cable. I thought that since they were class compliant, they would be able to talk to each other, but I haven't been successful so far. Do you know if I need something in between as a computer/laptop/midi interface?
I just dont know if I should get the sampler or just the 2 as my first groovebox and intro into this hobby.....? I just dont understand why they didnt just make the electribe 2 also able to do samples? Even if it was required to use a sd card to have enough memory to store samples...... I mean it's almost 2023.......come on man!
So this does not have ADSR? In 21st century? Korg really must think their customers are even stupider than we really are. MUYB Electarabe 3 haves it? :D

It took me a whole year of spare time to learn this information. This is going to blow someone's mind! Good job!
Zachary Drummond hey, that someone is me - simply put, this tutorial is the most amazing video on youtube @loopop THANK YOU :3
Thanks for the kind words guys - keep this up and I'll make more ;)
Just did !
Yoo 3 years later and a friend of mine got into making music and just bought an electribe
I immediately sent him this video.
His mind is indeed blown.
He is right. It blows my mind today :D
Thank you so much !
I still love and use my Electribe 2 Sampler in 2024 (I bought mine in 2020). Yes, there's some annoying things about it, but the results are great, and more than worth the negatives.

I dont know why these dont get more love..... I mean the price is right and have just about everything u would want in a smaller groovebox!
Searched for "Korg Electribe 2 Sound Design" and got exactly what I wanted as the first result. Perfect.
This is exactly what I was looking for. A graphical (frequence) based explanation on what is happening behind the scenes. Thank you so much! Great job!
Probably the most comprehensive Electribe tutorial I've seen... definitely shed some light features I was in the dark about! Thanks so much for posting!
You're welcome!
This is fantastic, and not just helpful to the Electribe in particular but to sound design in general.
best tutorial I've ever seen. well done!
thanks very much
You are a real master, excellent pedagogy, excellent video, thanks from the bottom of my heart. Big hug from Spain.
Thanks ;)

I have the Electribe 2 for 2 weeks now but couldn't understand the eg int and modulation. So well explained!
Thank you!
the strange thing is that this makes me like the thing better than all the other videos ive seen on it
You are my Eletribe hero!!! Very grateful for the time and effort you've put into explaining the E2 so well.
Fantastic video. Would love to see a sampler specific vid. Recording/editing samples into beats etc. Well done!!!
I really have to thank you for your time putting this together. I've been curious about synths but intimidated by what's going on behind the scenes. playlist of the best tutos by FAR on the electribe thanks so much !

your videos on the electribes are the best out out there. made so much stuff a lot more clear. thanks.
adamoliver82 you’re welcome and thanks for your comment ;)
best tutorial about e2 on youtube
Thank you! Best tutorial for es2, and I've watched a lot of tutorials. Maybe make a video covering all the functions the shift key can do!
Wow. Awesome. Would love a follow-up where you create a few sounds and give some sense of HOW to use these different parameters. I fiddle and fiddle and create sounds that sound like crap where other people seem to coax such cool colors from this machine.

That is an awesome tutorial with lots of precious information which should be available in additional manuals of Korg. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for this. First thing I have seen beyond it's price tag that has made the electribe appeal to me.
the whole enchilada! thanks!
this is super useful not only for this but sound design in general thank you!
Thanks, very clear and concise tutorial! feel more in control of my e2 now…good work!
Thank you very much for the video! Definitely the best Electribe tutorial on UA-cam!
You are breaking this down. And I am learning. Thank you!!!! So amazing!!!!!
3:00 this was so satisfying
Thaaaannnnnks!!!!!! The explanation for modulation is so important and son under explain by Korg, Thanks!!
Very professional and easy to understand. Great work!
Ordered both of these as a Christmas presents for myself this year. SO much better than socks 😍😂 Very convenient for something like a travel around the south east Asia on a Norwegian disability check, saving $1000 every month (up to 6 months every year) 😎😎😎
Espen Haug cool. Consider a deck saver as a way of safely transporting them
Thanks! Yeah i was planning to get that next month. And thanks a lot for explaining how you need to play legato to keep the modulation going..! Was a "little" confusing when just experimenting...
You can see the spike in frequency where that crazy buzz is on some e2’s lmao
I've always wondered why Korg didn't implement the motion sequence in a way that allowed you to record the movements in a continuous loop until you were happy with the results and could then drop out of record. It feels like a race knowing that you have to get it right straight away.. Great video BTW..
great video. This E2 reminds me some aspects of the old Roland MV 8000.
EXCELLENT video!!!!!!!! very comprehensive! quite a few things I've learned here
This, and all your other videos I've watched, has proved *extremely* helpful to me - thanks!! 🙂

Man, I need to get that LFO table.
Thanks Loopop, this is really useful stuff - well done!
Nick Burlton my pleasure - thanks for your comment
most comprehensive tutorial ever
Excellent explanation, thanks for your dedication!
thanks for explaining EG Int :D
such an awesome video dude thank you, subbed
Thank you so much for this video. Stay blessed.
Really informative video, thank you
Thanks for the detailed explanation! Can each track have different insert fx? How hard are these fx on the CPU of the Electribe? Have you ever had any issues with running out of polyphony because of the effects?
Excellent tutorial, very detailed.
Love your teaching
Great presentation! Thank you.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you!
Really nicely done, man
SadMountain thanks!
well done for doing this!!
Thanks mate! This the best Electribe tutorial ... where's the 'grazie mille' button on youtube!!
wentbackward you just pressed it - thanks ;)
Great video. Thank you sir.

.... good work man!
A big job mate!
my respectss ;-)
Nice comparison lolpoop
Great teaching, tnx!
Nice. Thank you.
great video! could you do one on the insert fx? would like to know how they impact the sound in detail
+Soto thanks. I have a few more videos planned with stuff that I think is cool or non obvious but the Insert FX is not one of them? What in particular are you referring to that's hard to understand about them?

+Soto no worries not sure what the style of this series is ;) will give it some thought
is there a way to view waveforms while playing with this? similar to what youre doing in this video?
Using a scope - either a plugin or hardware.
Thank you for this ,, its a great tutorial !!!!
You're welcome!
Thanks for the eg/int explanation ! It's stupid if you use sample there is the same button for two things ... EgInt decay and stop point of sample 😢
Thank you, this is very helpful.. clear and straight to the point! Nice one!
You Are God !!!thank you☺☺☺
You know if you can set cut groups in trigger mode?, for example, you want to play 3 samples that cut into each other (sound only one at the time), and at the same time drums that are not cut by the other sounds
Hi, I have a problem that you can not from my ELECTRIBE sampler delete any patterns? It's not working CLEAR SEQUENCE ??? I do not know what do with it :(

and I have another question, sorry
I have on my SD cart WAF and my data when I want a sound loaded from SD to Electrible. so the sound but I can use it when you save and turn off electrible and then turn on the mem pattern is no sound?
thanks for the help :)
sorry for my English !

Thanks.
can we get a vid on sampling and slicing different types of sounds
yes, it's on the "roadmap" - hopefully in a few weeks - I have something slightly more exciting coming before ;)
Excellent video! How would you recommend creating a simple warm synth pwm pad sound?
+Mauricio Ossa Thanks! To your question - that's a hard one, very individual I think... what I would recommend is find a sound patch you like in another hard or soft synth and recreate it in the Electribe. The Electribe synth has all the core building blocks of a great synth - there's nothing you can't do with it I think - especially if you check out my other video about layering 3 oscillators/lfos/fx
how to add two OSC for building a more complex sound ?
when using stereo samples, does the insert fx become stereo too? like the chorus the flanger the delays
thanks man, great explanation... really great chart & explanation/overview of the mod types also...super helpful to understand more about the unit...also appreciated the info on the EG int & it's connection to the A/R knobs ...didn't realize those interacted, esp w/o the EG light on. awesome tips!
i have the grey one...so powerful...do you have both or just the sampler? have been wondering about a hardware sampler, but also not sure if i want 2 e2s or would swap mine out for the sampler... do you find yourself wishing for more oscillators on the sampler or is the stock amount provided sufficient? Cheers!
Peter Loomis thanks for the comment. If you’ve seen other vids on this channel I find myself wishing for more oscillators on a weekly basis, but I wouldn’t use me as a reference for anything but a serious synth addict
Hi
Do you know how to make a stutter effect on electribe 2 ?
There are many ways.
Wow. The manual for the electrictribe is horrendous. How many lfos can you have per part? Can you have a filter lfo and a pitch lfo at the same time?
heyy how i delete motion sequencing ?
Thanks a lot for those awesome videos! I have a question regarding the "SLICE" function,...:/ I can slice my samples but haven't manage to play them once I'm in sequencing my sounds, can you please help??
The slices should be right after the original sample you sliced
Is it possoble to stack two insert effects?
What do you use as oscilloscope and frequency graph? Awesome video.
perseus086 thanks! Moscilloscope and spectrum by ableton
Thanks
why when i make a project a little more demanding i get stuck loading all the samples and i lose everything? I only have 18 samples left and I have to reset everything to factory settings
Maybe a faster card could do it…
Salut ! Et moi jai une question a la con jai besoin d'un pc pour utilisée la korg ? Ou je peut directement la brancher mes enceinte et faire du live avec ce qu'il i a dessus ?
There's no need for a PC with this instrument, if I understand the question....
Sliced samples are simply new samples in your samples list. You should watch my E2S tips and tricks video for more with slices - hope that helps
What do you use to show the waves?
1:35 play the keys a little differently and you literally got the beat to the song slippery
where is part 2?
Check the channel for quite a few Electribe videos
What do you use for your oscilloscope in the top left?
A free scope by Melda
Just bought the ES2s and if find it a shame that I can't record an external instrument while a sequence is playing. Pedro Devoto hey the channel's name has loop in it so hell yeah. Never used the octratrack, but have the OP-1 - yeah it's awesome
Pedro Devoto I never tried it but yes I think you need a USB midi host device or a computer
It's a pity legato is broken at the end of a pattern
Is it possible to sync LFO's?
+Óscar Sánchez do you mean across multiple parts? As long as your Mod Depth and Speed are the same I would assume so
loopop no, i mean sync it with the bpm.
+Óscar Sánchez yes of course check out the video for a table and demo showing all the LFOs that can sync up with the BPM
I just dont know if I should get the sampler or just the 2 as my first groovebox and intro into this hobby.....?
