The Korg Electribe 2 Sampler still provides pretty phenomenal value even though it was released a couple of years ago.
Here are some tips the make the most of it.

Thanks man. I honestly don't have the mental capacity to figure this shit out, I just got the music in me. People like you help me grow, and I appreciate it so much, thank you, thank you.
Human shortcut's what you are.
Moon is shiny.
You a star.
The Electribe 2 Sampler is, I believe an underrated machine. There is something compelling with the combination of reasonable price, build quality, great FX, portability, all those KNOBS, great sounding filters, ability to play samples chromatically in keyboard mode. The ability to run on batteries is home run stuff. If it had graphical waveform editing and 32 note polyphony (it has 24), it would be close to perfect. Oh yes, it would be handy to turn auto-quantising off, it can't be that hard, I had a Roland R8 from '89 that could do that!
Some of your videos are where I decide to buy synthesizers, and some I'm super glad you've made after I bought one... You've reached me man!
8:54 I’m used to think in Hex (Mirage) and multiples of 16 (0-127) because of… well, nerdyness. Once you think like that, is easy to get a grip of this specific technique you mention. If you sample a four bar loop, 0 will be the start of bar 1, bar 2 will start at 32, bar 3 at 64 and bar 4 at 96. So each beat will be have a lenght of 8. I’ve been sequencing the electribe with the Machinedrum, and it is amazing because I can control the ‘slice’, pitch/note and duration per step. Basically P-Locking the electribe (also with Hacktribe installed). It is an AMAZING machine, but I believe people hate it because it is not the same form factor as its lineage, people would love it if it would’ve been named Volca Sampler Pro.
I think this is a great way, or perhaps even the best way, to use the Electribe Sampler. It really utilizes the strengths of the device's resampling ability and makes it into more of an instrument in its own right than a half-baked music production station. I'll admit that I've had a hard time convincing people of its usefulness, as opposed to a full DAW or other device. But I think that its workflow is unique and more worthy of a chance than people realize.
Dylan Alford thanks!
another tip is to turn off the audio in switch when using it as a production tool. even with the volume turned down with audio in switched on, you here a feint high pitch noise. as soon as you switch audio in off it disappears
Best comment ever read on UA-cam! Thank you SO MUCH! I've been looking for a solution for that for many years!
Thanks dude, my cockatiel is incredibly grateful
Useful stuff, well explained. Thank you :)
Super helpful video. I refer to it constantly. Thank you for making it!!
this machine has so many weird quirks and I love it
I have never used this tech B4.
I haven't even received my unit yet.
It's totally fascinating and awesome ... SUBSCRIBED!
THANKS!!
17:45 Back in the early 90s, one of the running jokes with my friends was, 'Reverse that, put a little delay on it, it'll sound awesome.'
I really appreciate your in-depth Electribe videos, very enlightening and inspirational... thanks for sharing! (My favourite tip may well be the FM radio one, that's a great idea :)
Agreed, great tips.
I've always used korg drum machines. Started with an er1. Thank you for your vids.
Really very, very useful and inspirational. Thanks a lot!
Great video! Thanks for reminding me that this thing can resample :D - I have my E2S for quite a while now but haven't looking into sampling at all yet...
Thanks, brilliant tips and tricks!
Such a great video thank you
this is great! thanks for this! I love tip 2!
Thanks for the detailed demo. I have been looking at sampler that can change speed without effecting pitch.
Excellent tutorial many thanks
Thx as always great video I love my Tribe
Great tips bruh! Merci!!!
always droppin science - thanx
rad, so many good tips, thanks!
Excellent tips thank you👍
cool, getting mine tomorrow and this gonna help a lot. thx
I likehow ur videos are organized : )
I just picked my E2S again recently. I appreciate the tips.
Thank you, Loopop!
Ahh! The ubiquitous Birinban!
Thanks for the continued advice. e2s FTW!
I've been missing out on that step edit shit; thanks 🙏
Wenn das jeder so perfekt erklären würde, wäre ich zumindest, mit meinen anderen Geräten viel weiter. Sehr gut, danke und Bravo
Jesus, 10 seconds in and that's already an epic shortcut I just saw for the first time now. 😳
Dope video
Nice. Cheers.
Excelente !!!!
Genial!!
I just bought my first Electribe Sampler. I hope you go back at somepoint and do your current video format and revisit this device and perhaps cover what you'd like to see in a Electribe 3? ❤
THANX!!
Thank you very much for the video. It is very useful for me
Specilly the OCS Edit motion thing.
I have been using it to deal with the problem of stopping playing samples when changing between patterns.
BTW, is there any other way to prevent that the above happens? any trick on that issue?
Thanks and keep rocking. Your work is awesome
Thanks a lot, man! Sample apps are amazing!
Using the "OSC EDIT MOTION" I guess you could do a clunky wavetable/glitchy type of thing..
Decided to dig mine out tonight and it's more fun than I remember it.
Thank you much for all the info.
Hi there. Nice vid. Thanks for posting. Curious if and how u’ve rigged it up with eurorack. There’s a clock out right? Or maybe something cv.ocd/mutant brains. Cheers
Now that interesting
A very fluent and engaging tutorial. This unit is on my shopping list but, I think I'm going to have to wait until it reaches the £300 price point. Great to have a piece of kit that can go such a long way to making a music track but does not need a computer to function. Contrary to that, the Maschine MK3 is ahead of the Electribe on my 'next purchase' list. Thanks for the info
Been looking at the Maschine 3 as well.
+Reso Factor, yeah loooks like a great deal. what do you use currently?
I have FLSTUDIO Producer 12.x, Novation LaunchPad Pro, Ableton Live 9 Lite.
I'm looking at getting a little bit more out of the DAW.
The thing that attracts me to the Electribe 2 is fairly on the fly improv like Ableton Sessions with LaunchPad, all in one box, and still being about to drop Samples, import, and Re-sample, and Export from Electribe 2 as .als files back down into Ableton.
iv'e seen Electribe 2 on Ebay for sub £300. But they are from Japanese retailers. I'm cautious about purchasing one in case it's a fake. Have you considered this route?
What do you think about the launchpad. Are you happy with the purchase/device?
LaunchPad rocks. Works perfect with Ableton Live 9 Lite that I use at the moment. It's a fun controller and a great way to get off your standard synth keys interface. Biggest issues it still binds me to a laptop.
With the Electribe2 Sampler and Synth both, I'd pretty much have an Ableton Session with two 16 Parts or 32 Tracks and 500 ish Patterns. I really want them both.
Great video and tutorial! I don't own the sampler but can you get around the lack of a sustain control (with the Amp/EG turned on) by setting a sample loop section within the sample? Would this cause the sound to "sustain" in the sample loop while the pad is held on and then fade out with the Decay/Release amount when the pad is released? Any advice much appreciated.
If the E2S had a waveform display and didn't have fixed quantization I'd get it in a heartbeat. Holding out for the Digitakt, personally.
Many Thanks for the vid. it is a real pity you can't resample when finger drumming with slices, unless they assigned to different parts
Hello i have a question i want to buy the korg nanokey or microkey but do you know if any of this 2 midi Will work with my electribe sampler thanks and really nice video
10/10 ;]
Hi Thanks for your great tips. Could you tell me the details of the microphone you used in part 7:25 of your video?
Could you please make a video with vocal sampling .
some one knows if you can set cut groups in trigger mode?, for example, you want to play 3 samples that cut into each other (sound only one at the time), and at the same time drums that are not cut by the other sounds
Dang, this really does make me reconsider the Electribe... if you don't mind a quick question, how does it handle mutes? Is it a true volume cutoff a la mixers or is it like on Electron gear where mutes simply disable trigs?
congratulations, the video was very useful. I wanted to ask you if anyone could help me with the pattern set section (the last button on the right above the pads)? because the manual is not very clear and online I have not found any information about it, thank you have a nice day
What has better drum samples loaded.. the sampler or the normal electribe 2? Also, is the synth engine in electribe normal edition, good enough to create *synthesised* drums?
After all this time I finally inally got an Electribe2 Synth (by mistake) which I right away installed Hacktibe on it.
I really enjoy the machine, the only few things I would like to see is samples loading preview and some sort lf loop sections of patterns, for example if you have a sequence from 1 to 4 and want to loop knly 1to2 or just 2 etc.
7:30 H1 represent!
Thank you for your clear and helpful presentation. The ES2 seems to get a lot of complaints; so it's nice to see some fresh tips.
Which would u recomend? Korg electribe? Or mpc live? Or any other sequencer around that price range
Hey loopop!! Do you know if I can assign the midi note for each sample? I ask this because I'm thinking of buying an electribe sampler and I would like to control it with my behringer rd8 (for drums), which, as far as I know, can't change the notes its sequencer sends for each drum part.
Amazing my friend. Wish you were here to assist me w my Electribe ES1-Mk2. I'm not sure what I can and can't do with it??? Did you ever. Use it??? or do research on it.? Great tut Amigo thank you!
No I didn’t sorry... good luck!
its apparently a great instrument, hope you have or will figure it out
Hi- Is it possible to connect it to Novation Drum Station2 and use it as sequencer with it? :)
Very useful video. But there is a problem. Just at the beginning, first tip - Import Sample, I have Upper Folder, Sample, and System but there are not samples to load! Why?
I havent seen i video yet of ES2 vs DIgitakt . whould be interesting
Hello I just got a used Electribe Sampler and I can't find the original 250 patterns, the '2016 Summer bonus patterns' and the 'blank patterns' file is on Korg's downloads page, but I can't find any copy of the e2sallpat of the original factory patterns, do you happen to have a backup?
Tim B sorrry no....
Hi, I am a guitar player wanting a device that basically functions like a drum machine but one which I can use my own samples and
trigger the patters I make live from a MIDI pedalboard. I don’t want to use a DAW on a computer. I’ve done fair bit of research and a Roland SP-404SX or this looks like it will be the best thing for that purpose at the lowest price point. I’m just not sure about changeable time signatures. I would appreciate your suggestion if you have any.
I have a question, with the edit knob you use through this video can you reverse any preset sounds in the blue electribe? I never found out.
I’ve heard in other videos you can’t.
awesome video, thanks. lik'd / sub'd
Thanks for this video, I have an Octatrack that doesn't see much action because I prefer portable stuff, and I am thinking of "downsizing" to the E2S (blasphemy, I know). question about finger drumming: do you have a way to record the pattern/sequence that you play or is that just for playing live and to be recorded elsewhere?
Yes you can record live into it
Is it possible to modulate the start point of a sampler with a random LFO for example ? And can you place multiple kind of samples (one shots or chormatic samples on several notes) on midi notes (keymap ...) on the same midi channel , like a multisample or a preset on an AKAI or EMU sampler
Yes: In modulation select LFO to OSC
c. 7:45 What is your recording device? Is it outputting at Line level?
Hi
Do you know how to make a stutter effect on electribe 2 ?
like in this video? ua-cam.com/video/Aea0cJn2Uvk/v-deo.html
Is there a aay yo actually crop the samples?
hey love your video really good explanation but can you tell me how to connect a midi controller like te iris keys or org nano key to my electric I have the red one thanks
Thanks! Sure, check out the latest video on my channel as of today - it's all about that stuff
Thank you Men really helpful
I am wondering if there is a way to make a sample play back only when the keys are held down? I recorded some chords from another synth which sound great apart from the fact that the whole sample plays each time I hit a pad. I wish to control the length of each note as I would with an oscillator patch so as to create a chord progression with a mix of short and long notes rather than having the chord ring out for 1-2 bars depending on pitch. Using the envelope doesn't seem to work, that just makes the sound shorter regardless of whether I hold pad down or not. Maybe I will have to manually automate end point for each step?
Hi !!! Can i audition sample before loading in to machine ? Thanks
I have the same question.
Does using many parameter locks on a sample use up polyphony?
Trevor Llewellyn not that I ever experienced
This is Gliter 💕 Swift
How to delet a sample?
Thank you for your videos! Do you think that Electribe Sampler has still sense in 2023? Or maybe now there are better hardware alternatives?
My pleasure! The video makes sense in the context of the E2S but there are plenty of new alternatives. I still think it packs a punch for its price if you're OK with the sound and workflow
Really appreciate the tips!!! I would have a question. I want slice a 1 bar loop that is a 120 bpm, but let's suppose I'm working on a pattern at 115bpm. Should I set the ES2 at 120bpm in order to match the bpm of that loop and than slice the loop correctly, or I could just leave the pattern at 115bpm and try to find the right setting with the threshold parameter? Thank you =)
TechnoRecensioni match the BPM for sure - the threshold is not for matching BPM it’s for detecting transients
loopop thank you so much for your rapid response 😊😉
how can i just make the sound
Could anyone help me use my electribe as a BPM matched clock for my DFAM / Eurorack? Tried using sync out into clock/advance input but no luck / can't find info online :(
What does everyone want from Electribe 3?
upgraded display and waveform editing, multi effects per part, time stretch, more sample memory
Yes, match the Roland SP404 MK2 specs, 32 note polyphony, waveform editing (yes!), timestrech would be cool as you say, is multi FX per part too much to hope for?! I agree too, sample memory is a bit silly at the moment (24MB, lol). I would add the ability to turn quantise off, stack multiple samples on one pad, be able to trigger a stereo sample from one pad (currently it is stupid, taking up two pads). Having said that, I think the size of the screen is ok, but should be a high rez OLED one. The other thing is the shortcuts should be printed under each pad!
A working electribe 2. Nothing really wrong with the E2, it just feels like a beta unit missing final touches we expect in a modern product. Korg totally stopped development on the E2 which tells us they are done with the E2. It's never gonna be fixed and they don't want us to fix it.
Great video. But is there a software that automatically sets looping points on wav samples and can it do it in batch (ex: set the looping point for a 1000 wav files folder at once)?
So far I've used FL studio's Directwave to sample vst synths C notes. It can auto set looping points.
However, when I speed up the files by 2 or 3 times with audio sofware like Audacity or Goldwave to make them fit in the electribe2 sampler I lose the looping points. Does anyone here have a solution for that? Thank you.
Tamatoa Cabral not that I know of but if you do please leave a comment here
How do i get that label sticker you have. Please help
silver lord films check out cremacaffe skins
It would be great if in a future upgrade they implemented waveform display
That would be sick, but I think it's lacking the needed processing power.
@@swillm3ister given it uses a Blackfin DSP and a ARM AM1802 its likely to be able to have plenty of CPU available, its more likely that Korg did not want to spend $ on the developer time necessary to do it.
@@MaksimLin Interesting, I didn't consider that. I feel that almost might mean there's possible room for individuals to tinker with it.
@@swillm3ister yep that's exactly what is happening with the Hacktribe project, but the Dev working on it has an uphill battle doing binary reverse engineering because Korg sadly have abandoned the product (while still selling unita retail!) and not released the source code to the firmware to let others at least do that.
Does anyone know if the Electribe sampler or 2 has mute group function similar to an MPC? This is kind of essential for me.
Mute on the electribe functions as either a solo or mute. There is one sound allocated per pad. You can mute or solo multiple pads at the one time.
But there aren't mute groups quite like on the MPC. You can 'choke' a pad with another but you can't do this for multiple assigned sounds or pads as you can with a mute group on an MPC.
marco satiwan Thank you for the info! If I can play samples chromatically, that would get the job done just as well.
u r god
hello! I just bought the Korg Electribe 2 and i have a huge problem, .Im trying to import a sample from a SD card on WAV format. On the screen it says that there is an 'Error - Error Format' and i've tried everything. Read some forums and i cant find a solution for this. Can you please help me
I'm thinking of using the electribe as a simple drum machine. How do I edit the velocity of the pads? For instance, I record a bunch of hi hats and I then I want to go into each hit and edit the velocity?
My Blue Extremes you have to use step edit, which is a pain in the backside. But, you can also use groove types which change velocities based on setting e.g. tambourine. They are really fast to use, fun, and sound great
@@johnchesters81 Thanks. That sounds tedious. In the end I got a really good deal on a Machine Drum MkII which has sorted out most of my drum needs.
where did you get that grey cheat sheet thingy you put on it?
Dream On Nilsson check out Cremacaffe
thanks!
How do I equalize korg samples and Master?
It doesn't really have any good equalization/normalization options, I think your best bet is to resample with a compressor IFX applied. Not suitable for all kinds of samples, but works for most drum sounds and short loops without too much dynamics. You can recreate some dynamics using the Amp and Filter envelopes as well as the LFO later on.
Thanx for the great tutorial, Loopop! I recently purcased a used E2 (grey) and it has a weird issue, a high freq background noise, which appears when you turn the master volume knob after 12 o'clock. It's no problem when listening from the speakers, but getting on my nerves in the headphones... Someone knows is it a common thing and if there's any cure for that?
Thanks! Have you tried disabling the audio input? Make sure there's no computer connected too...
Hopefully someone can answer my question: So if I were to load a wav file piano sample of the note, C1, could I possibly get more notes out of the Electribe 2 by keymapping and pitch shifting? If so, how is it done? Thanks in advance. Note: I am using a midi keyboard with the Electribe 2.
It should just work - if you put the sample on say part 2, you can just send midi notes on channel 2 from your midi keyboard. It will also transpose, see: www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/8run47/keyscales_for_sample_parts_on_electribe_2_sampler/
What are some of the differences between this and the black one?
I made a whole video on that
Hey bro, I wonder if you still have this thing and could do a video on the new Hacktribe hack for it. It'd be cool to have a really in-depth look at it from a pro's point of view.
Thanks sorry I don't have it anymore
How do i stop loops that are several seconds long from being cut off? Works fine when i hold the trigger key down.
If ur still workin it out, check out 6:55 of the vid. It may be helpful.
Hi, can it receive pattern change messages via midi? thx!
Yes it can, though it actually needs to be sent as a series of 3 messages, as it splits the high/low bytes across 2 messages. See the midi implementation doc on Korgs website for details.
