- New charges have been announced against all of the sacked police officers present at the death of African American George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The charge against Derek Chauvin has been elevated to second-degree murder, court documents show.
The other three officers, previously uncharged, face counts of aiding and abetting murder.
Floyd's death has sparked huge protests across the US against racism and the police killings of black Americans.
The vast majority of demonstrations over the past eight days have been peaceful, but some have turned violent and curfews have been imposed in a number of cities.

In France it is a criminal offence to NOT aid a fellow citizen in dire circumstances.
It would have been very dangerous for the civilians around Floyd to intervein as the now ex-police officers could have misconstrued this as assault, possibly resulting in more deaths. In the German military, a soldier is obliged to not follow an order if they believe it to be morally reprehensible and they are can also interfere with its execution if they think that would be necessary. Maybe implementing a law or procedure along these lines would be an effective method of preventing similar abuses and misuses of their authority.

Yes, in terms of slavery, black people are “free”. However, they were “free” back in the 10s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s, yet that still didn’t stop the segregation. When I, as a black woman, walk into an interview room, the usually all-white panel are instantly making judgements about me and whether they think I will fit into their team. In an ideal world the person who is best for the job would get the role but if you have spent any time in a professional environment, you will have seen examples of senior people and managers who have been promoted beyond their competence, perhaps just because their "face fits". This is not the place to describe the ins and outs of my interview performance, and even if I did, it seems that you are determined to stick to your narrative that black people have equal life chances and opportunities to white people in the UK and USA. I wish I could live in the completely fair world that you seem to think we live in.

Usually for a counterfeit note be in circulation it has to be somewhat convincing, and as a cashier I certainly wasn't trained to assume ill intent from whoever tried to give me one.
+ I've tried to pay with a counterfeit note before, it wasn't obvious it was fake until it showed up under the security light at the till. (No one called the police on me.)

If no one have been filming and the protest weren't going on who's willing to bet all three of those police officers including the one that was on his neck would have got away with this? There are multiple cases online if you look for them of police brutality and unlawful death and most of the time the police officers don't even get suspended!

Wouldn't you want justice? Anyone's right can be affected by excessive police force, don't think you and your family are exceptional. Sadly these incidents are more prevelant in the minority groups. Police officers need to be kept in check and be reminded they too are not above the law just because of their uniforms.

The charges were coming all along. It if you want justice you have to make sure the prosecutors have tons of solid evidence.

The two "paramedics" look like 2 cops to me. Either way those 2 guys didn't provide CPR immediately to save George's life. They checked for a pulse and found none, so they just loaded up a lifeless body onto a stretcher?! Really, at least 2 more minutes go by with no medical attention given to save his life. Maybe George would be alive today if CPR why provided as all paramedics and cops are trained to do...
