I'm of Polish descent. Polish people are slavic people. Slavic people, or slavs for short, have been conquered and enslaved for so many more centuries than black people that it dwarfs black slavery completely. In fact, slavic people, or slavs for short, have been enslaved so many times over the centuries that the word slav is where the modern english word slave came from. Polish people were also in the Nazi concentration camps along with the jews as well. The vast majority of the black slaves in America were all owned by only a tiny percentage of white southerners. So, the vast majority of white Americans are not related to slave owners in the past. And, both white and black people from the north died in order to end that slavery in the Civil War. So, the next time someone of _any_ colored skin tells me to "check my privilege" simply due to the color of my skin, I say, check your history, and your racism.

Slavic people, or slavs for short, have been conquered and enslaved for so many more centuries than black people that it dwarfs black slavery completely.

SARAI Dawta of ISRAEL George Floyd killing was not race fuelled.
@SARAI Dawta of ISRAEL What did either of those deaths have to do with institutionalised racism?
That statue should’ve been brought down years ago
D 1 that’s why calling it vandalism is not entirely correct. Context context context. Had they brought it down themselves before it would have been already solved. I am very happy that there is a lot of common sense around this. Also very happy for all being sensible while still going for very needed and significant change. And after all, it was a piece of metal. But we are speaking of human lives and values of humanity. That is the greatest context.
Jordan Nkosi um, nope. Oh............ um........... the depth to that is immense. Because of yeah........ but i have seen monuments that have been taken down when a change has happened. Although it is still observable in a museum. But taking down a statue in itself is not uncommon.
So, if we accept to erase from history everyone connected with slavery, shouldn't we also take a look at Mahomet who was a slave owner, a slave trader, and codified it in the coran ?
It's a real question.
How is toppling a statue erasing someone from history? They don’t believe a slave trader should be commemorated (rightly so). Where are the statues of Muhammad? Oh yeah - *they don’t exist*
@@CarpeDiem-vc3gq you're missing the point. It's not about a statue only but about slavery owner and trader. What's the most someone who've done that 3 century's ago and now it's done. Or someone who codified it with a book that's still teaching it until today. You do know that slavery is still going on, right ?
It's where I can see hypocrisies.
@Ark Mobile Evidence you think you're smart or what ? The point is not a statue, but people who had huge impact on slavery. Read the comments before making a fool of yourself.
If your from Bristol have family or friends there it's thanks to the guy who's statue was toppled, he spent the majority of his fortune to build the entire city more or less. This man gave so much (sure he also made ethically wrong decisions) but does that mean forget all the good he's done and focus on the bad?
These muppets only pick a small section of history (the worst bit) and use that against us. Which has ruined the uk now after BLM. 3% afro/carib in the uk but the TB shows as 50/50 ???? I'm ashamed of our woke people
And let's examine the African culture and the genocides
this brings up the question, "do we have the right to judge figures from history by our modern standards which would invariably vilify them? or should we judge them by the decisions they made and the times they were living in which may view them as more favorable?" as the saying goes "today's hero may be tomorrow's villain"

Are they then going to pull down the pyramids as they were built by slaves?
Honest Person Actually they were white. They were from Alsham in the middle east. And we the middle eastern are considered white.
Honest Person I’m sure it would’ve been if it was built 200 years ago but it was over 4000, little signs of its oppression still exist whereas this still is CLEARLY affecting black people. It’s not apples to apples in any way
pyramids are symbol of what slavery..move on
Well no message was sent was it 😂 I’m glad it’s at least in a museum. It is vandalism, half of the black people had no idea who he was 😂
As a Bristolian I salute you 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
You are a disgrace, associating yourself with a city known for these atrocities
You think this is acceptable behaviour?
@Phil You going to destroy Karl Marx tomb next for the pain his ideology has caused?
@Phil Capitalism has helped more people escape poverty than communism has ever done. Since many eastern countries adopted capitalism world poverty has dramatically fallen. You have to be another level of ideologue to assume or even hope that entire populations would be content living in a system which always turns out to be one in which some people are more equal than others, and one in which you are eternally confined to the restrictions other people have placed upon you.
@@jamietherooster The problem with capitalism is the game is rigged. Your born into a system that has already been set up to keep you in your place. It's like joining a game of monopoly after its been playing for hours. All the good stuff is gone, all the property is owned. In Britain the top 500 wealthiest families haven't hardly changed for 1000 years. Do you think they earned it? Or do you think just maybe they stole it? Or worked some poor buggers to death getting it? Karl Marx was an economist who saw how unfair the system was. He's only vilified by the establishment because just maybe they would lose their wealth. 5 people own most of press in Britain. Billionaires that don't even live in Britain. Do you think they have your interests at heart? Have a think..
That statue belongs in a museum, not on the streets. History is stored in museums. Indeed that statue is a slap across the face for all black people every time they walk past it. Let’s not glorify a slave trader and racist.

Weird how they only mentioned once, in passing about his involvement in the slave trade. They talk about his history and seem to gloss over the fact he was responsible for the deaths of thousands.

Yeah because he built schools for white kids from the sale of black people and kids it's OK because he gave the city loads of money and built schools . Disgusting how such men are on statues.

It's hard to understand.
why would a slave trader and pedophile deserve religious respect from the left? Its hard to understand
Human beings destroy the planet. Why does anyone deserve to live?
Almost all historical figures owned slaves.. different times and different rules. Judging long dead people by today's standards and trashing statues is not going to help. Removing history just shows ignorance and self entitled attitudes
