It is just beyond belief John Noble never won an Emmy for his portrayal of what most on the planet would probably consider the most awesome scientist/father/music/foodie/druggie ever. That he was never even nominated goes straight into my WTF file!? And while I am here, I have to say Joshua Jackson deserved some nominations as well. When the show started I hesitated when seeing his name on the cast, but the man was simply superb throughout the show.

Hawaiiguy Kailua I will never understand how John Noble was never nominated at least for Emmy or Golden Globe. It's beyond my understanding.

Because the Emmy’s are a load of crap. It’s just industry politics, same as the Oscars. Real talent is overlooked or pushed aside in favor of nepotism. It’s all rigged and farcical.

Tbh...Fringe is highly underrated for what it did...it went from a case of the week crime series, to some horror/super natural series, then super hero/super power show into time travelling and in the end endtimes/dystopia series. It never went stale at all. So crazy...I don't know if any show or movie did something like this before. And John Noble was the cherry on top for the maddness that this show was in the best way possible. What really blew it out the water was how honest the characters were played. The whole cast. They seemed so close. Even though Rachel (Olivias sister) never played that big of a role, for the time she was in it, she was really convincing in conjunction with Olivia. They played it like the were real sisters like they loved each other as relatives. So mind bending. And Astrid always was such a kind soul (both versions). I just had a blast binging this. And I feel like I watched 4 series at the same time.
And now imagine...as of today the series has a meta critic score of 68 (not that it matters).

Oscars are for film; this is television. The more accurate question is "Where is this man's Emmys/Golden Globes?". Because he deserves many of them, goddamnit.

one of my personal favorite walter scenes is when he talks to the time traveler in Season 2 and tells him about the white tulip. it shows how much pain walter caused and the guilt has to live with.

I agree with everyone here. WHY hasn't he been atleast NOMINATED for an Emmy. John Noble's performance as Walter Bishop is breathtaking. All the different emotions he show, he can do emotional and sad scenes just as amazing and great as he does funny scenes. Isn't that what it takes to be nominated for an acting award? Becoming the character and showing realistic emotions? I hope he will get nominated in the future and that this wont go down as one of the most underrated performances ever.

Obviously still some of the best scenes were to come, this was uploaded in 2010.
My favorite Walter scene of all was when he was saying goodbye to Peter in the finale, where he told him "You were my favorite thing to do". OMG, Kleenex alert!!! LOVE John Noble/Walter!!!

  • @notbobdavis6026

His acting was indeed over the top great in Fringe. My favorite Walter scene was in season 5 when Etta and Simon were transporting the recently unambered Walter to a safe place and they were approached by a loyalist guard. Walter went a little berserk but then tried to use the Jedi mind trick on the guard saying, "These are not the droids you're looking for. Move along". Nearly busted a gut laughing at that. 😄

Walter is such a fantastic character because at first you think he’s just a crazy old man with funny quirks…and then the story follows him and you realize that he has reasons for why he acts like that due to some painful psychological issues and it’s painful, showing the problems of human experimentation on one person and he becomes more and more psychologically complex. And Noble…has a fantastically convincing American accent. Never once did I not buy that he was not American. Though Walter could’ve been born in Australia but moved to the United States when he was younger.

joyce brain So am I, and I'm noticing many things I missed the 1st time around. John Noble does is character so well, I couldn't see anyone else even attempting it. Considering the awards MAD MEN received, this show should have been tripled that...

Fringe, one of my top TV shows ever. A worthy successor to The X-Files and not only John Noble but the whole cast did a spectacular job. My only gripe with the show was that the last season was half the length of the others. I think the future setting could easily have been stretched to a few more episodes. I'll probably be dusting off the box sets of Fringe, Breaking Bad and Arrested Development later in the year when current shows I love have a break

I wonder if it's anything to do with the awards ceremony not wanting to be seen "promoting" a character who is so very positive about recreational and experimental drug use. Personally, I think Walter Bishop (and, of course, John Noble's performance of him) are an excellent role model for self-medication!
