Hello again! I made this recipe and it is amazing! My wife and I both thought it had the flavor profile of bologna! And even the texture, a bit! I did add some things, and here they are: 1/2 tsp smoked paprika or to your taste, 1/4 tsp ground celery seed, 1/4 tsp allspice or to your taste, 1/2 tsp ground coriander, 1/4 tsp ground white pepper or to your taste, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp additional salt. The rest was as you said. I looked up the spices usually used in bologna to come up with this. It is DELICIOUS.
Awesome! So glad you like it. Smoked paprika is a great ingredient. I pinned this comment so others can see it in the future. Thank you for coming back and letting me know what you had done with it!
I made this but I have arthritis and couldn't stir it long enough while cooking. So when I got it really hot and had cooked it the first five minutes in my teflon coated pot, I moved it off the stove eye, turned it off and let it sit for 20 minutes. I put it into a sprayed, mini loaf pan and wrapped the loaf pan in plastic wrap. The best thing about doing it that way is that it didn't stick to the bottom! I let it cool for 45 minutes and refrigerated. I also put smoked paprika in mine with the liquid smoke. It cooked nicely and was YUMMY! We loved it fried like fried bologna on a sandwich with tomato and fresh sliced onion. I'm making again today! :)
Nice, sounds great .I have made it with Besan, which I think is Indian Gram flour or chickpea flour. It was in the market, it was yellow and about the size of a lentil, not a regular chickpea. I used just that and added nutritional yeast, changed up the flavor and color, more towards a chick'un, but different. I am so glad you enjoyed it!

I was just about to post something about this being gluten-free and not having any expensive or hard-to-find ingredients like agar. Thanks for the upload!
I love this recipe. it makes a great base to play with and experiment with seasonings. I also love that your chihuahuas are barking in the background when you use the blender.
Thanks. We make pastrami for ruebens and pepperoni. We have even mixed green lentils with it so it looked more of a brown color and added sage, thyme, oregano, etc. It is awesome stuff. Thanks for watching. My chihuahua hates the blender, lol!
This is so amazing. I almost taught you were gonna stream the sausages in plastic, what I know it's not good. But I was surprised you put it in oven and the sausages turned out so firm and good looking. Thanks for this recipe
This actually would have been nice to know, i could not understand why my lentils stopped blending at a certain point, they did not get fine like yours, but it's good to know in the future that you should bake them first. I appreciate the recipe but please be thurough❤
I am using one of the older model Magic Bullet with the flat blade. I find it easier for small portions like this. If you want to grind larger portions something like a Vitamix or Blentec works well.
Yes, it will come out a different color but still taste the same. I used yellow Besan a few times and added nutritional yeast to make a sort of chicken substitute.
I have never done it that way. Let me know how it turns out. I am not sure if the stirring works the proteins in the lentils and adds to the stickiness. I am trying some more next week as well and will experiment with one batch.
I am making this right now to give this version of lentil meat another shot! I like the idea, but I made this using another recipe on youtube. "Weimers- A Vegan Meat Substitute" is the title of the original youtube video. ua-cam.com/video/rmhl7P9rzwc/v-deo.html The texture is off to me. it was like wet dough and too gritty at the same time. It reminds me of a pâté with rough grit in it so it was edible but not pleasing. I prefer Seitan personally. I wish I could get this to be to my liking because I actually like the idea. I will try it again using this version, which uses red lentils instead of green, tomato sauce instead of tomato juice, and adds maple syrup. This version also omits real onions and garlic. I milled the lentils in a Vitamix forever and it still did not avoid the grittiness. But I will try it again because I would like it to work. I will probably add 1 tablespoon Better than Bouillon No Chicken maybe instead of maple syrup because it does taste like balogna.
I blended mine I a Magic Bullet since I only have a small amount of lentils. I do love wheat gluten, but my wife is allergic to wheat. Hope it comes out better the next time.
No, I did not boil them. I rinsed them and put tgem in an oven at a low temp to dry them of and tgen ground them up. When I added the tomato sauce to tge lentil powder, I did bri g it to a boil, more of a bubble because it was so thick.

Wow, thanks for the tip!!Smoked paprika and frying it up is awesome.
I made it again today and I didn't have enough lentils, so I used half garbanzo beans and half lentils. Turned out fantastic! ;)

I do something like this w chickpea flour...makes great sandwiches
I made this, and everyone, especially my little man and husband love this! Such a fun treat to add to our sandwich options :)
Awesome!! Glad you like it!
Oh yes! Gardening and recipes! And beautiful art work! I'm enjoying all of them!! Thank You for sharing with all of us!
Thank you, Jan!
I will have to try this being a new vegan, searching for those familiar but not the usual foods. Thank you for sharing.
Good luck on your journey ✌🌱

Woooooooooow i love it thanks very much

Red lentil, my ne favorite legume, and recipe, I'm a new vegan, gluten and free. I'm going to take it somewhere today.
Glad it is helpful, hope you like it.

What a gem!
Because this is so easy and gluten free, I'm going to try and make hot dogs with this recipe.
👌🏻I am going to give this a try. Thank you.
Awesome 😎🤘
How cool was that? Nice job. Looks delicious.
Hey, thanks for watching! It is pretty good for a simple recipe.
thank ou so much......
😎🤘🌱 it's yummy!
Nonstick pan is best to use, just finished making one of those, it's a yummy food
Yeah, I started using non stick, those lentils get sticky, lol.
@@KeepOnGrowin it does get sticky but easier to lift from a non-stick pan lol
In nigeria we call this moi moi. Sometimes made with lentils. Tradtionally with beans.
Awesome, thank you for that!
This is amazing!😍 Awesomeness!
Thank you, yummy too!
I just made this added a little liquid smoke this looks wonderful. How long does it last in the fridge and can it be frozen?
I have kept it in the fridge about 5 to 6 days. Have not tried to freeze it yet.
Cheryl McKee, how did it taste with the liquid smoke?? How much did you add?
Tank you is very good tank you cool
Excellent!
Thanks, let me know if you try it!
Can't wait to make this tomorrow night! This is so easy! Did you make the pepperoni yet? I'd love to get that recipe, as well!
Hope you enjoy it. I have not done the pepperoni, it will probably be out this next week.
I think I will try this recipe. I am not vegetarian or vegan, but it looks good and I'm willing to give it a try.
It is pretty good for something different. Lentils are full of protein too. Thanks for watching my videos Susan.
It’s so amazing, can I use vital gluten flour to give it more meat taste?
Sure, you can try. My wife has a wheat allergy so I was playing around with gluten free recipes. It might even help the texture too, let me know.
At 0:50 what brand of heating...plate contraption are you using? looks like it works well!
It is a little gas camping stove by Newart Home, I love it!
What? I'm doing thissss! Thank you.
No problem. Hope you enjoy it! 😃
Has anybody tried this with Instant Pot, pot-in-pot method? I'm gonna give it a try. Opens up a lot of great stuff! Thanks, again, Mike!
No problem, let me know if it works😎🖒
Hi thanks for this, I have pasta sauce, is this the same as tomato sauce?
I believe that will work.
@@KeepOnGrowin thank you
and Happy
Easter
I wonder if you could make the same recipe, make them smaller to make vegan hot dogs?
Probably, give it a try. Let me know.
You might want to add liquid smoke to get that hot dog smokey flavor.
♥️
I was thinking separating vital bean from starch then make meat with the viral bean flour...is there starch in bean flour!
Sorry, i have no idea. Only seen it done with wheat.
Great recipe. Just wanted to know....were the lentils washed before grinding?
Yes, I rinse them and dry them in an oven set on low. They get sticking, lol, but come apart easy.
Actually going to make some tomorrow 😎🤘
Thanks so much for sharing the info🙏🏼. Would the same work with split yellow lentil flour too? They're also known as split and dehusked mung beans.
This actually would have been nice to know, i could not understand why my lentils stopped blending at a certain point, they did not get fine like yours, but it's good to know in the future that you should bake them first.
I appreciate the recipe but please be thurough❤
Love the music, you should do this in every one
Haha, like to have fun and be different! Thanks for watching!
Mine turned out very tomato-ee. Tomato-ish. It's good but not what I was thinking it would taste like. I'm eating it anyway
What are you using to grind the lentils with? Also can one use other lentils instead?
Thanks great video
I am using one of the older model Magic Bullet with the flat blade. I find it easier for small portions like this. If you want to grind larger portions something like a Vitamix or Blentec works well.
Looks like a healthy version of spam
Will def attempt it
Can you use brown lentils instead
Yes, it will come out a different color but still taste the same. I used yellow Besan a few times and added nutritional yeast to make a sort of chicken substitute.
Im going to use this to finally make vegan donner kebab meat thankyou!
Cool deal, Hope you like it!
Thanks. When you say "tomate sauce" is like ketchup? Or tomate sauce? Please. I am waiting your answer. Thank
It's pourable so I think it's like Pasata or pasta sauce type consistency.
Not ketchup. Tomato sauce is blended stewed tomatoes.
Yes.😎🖒
How is this in a sammie? Does it hold together?
Yes, it is very good!
I'm in the midst of making this, do you suppose it could be baked in a loaf pan instead "meat loaf" style?
I have never done it that way. Let me know how it turns out. I am not sure if the stirring works the proteins in the lentils and adds to the stickiness. I am trying some more next week as well and will experiment with one batch.
Could I use brown lentils for this or would the taste be different?
I think the brown would work fine. Red just kinda looks like fake bologna. I used yellow besan beans once and made a chick'un nugget.
@@KeepOnGrowin Thanks. Sounds great! I may try that too...
Would it work with boiling stock rather than soup?
I think it will the tomato sauce just gives a little more depth of flavor. You may want to cut down the amount a tiny bit.
Phoney bologna!!!🤣😂🥰
Yes!!😂😂
How long can it stand in the fridge before the expiration date? :)
I leave it about a week at the most. Thanks for watching.
Hi , I was wondering , could I use any other type of flour? I don’t have lentils at the moment
I have used Besan, which is chickpea flour, it was yellow, made chick'n nuggets, lol.
Is the recipe written down?
Are you supposed to boil it or something? I made this but it looks nothing like your end product and taste nothing like bologna
No, did not boil it. Maybe you did not let it cook long enough.
@@KeepOnGrowin it was cold when I rolled it. Maybe I let it cool too long?
Hi guys, sorry for being naive, but what is red lentils?
No problem. It is a dried legume. In indian cuisine they call it Dal. You can find them with the dried beans in your local supermarket.
i am allergic to tomato. anyone has any idea what else i can add instead of tomato sauce?
You can use broth but the flavor will be different.
