I don't know how to describe it. This video is like a soft cheesecake. The soft music, stylized photos, vibes of green and gold. I don't know how to describe it, but like a soft cheesecake: its comfortable.
I could honestly listen to you talk all day lol. I really enjoyed this video and I hope to see more "camera duels" in the future - this was a great idea.
Thank you so much! Your videos are always of such high quality!!! You clearly put a lot of work and thought into making them. It heals my soul! And your voice is so nice to listen to😊
“Disposable” cameras were never meant to be just tossed out. They were meant to be recycled by the manufacturer. That’s also why they’re also called “one time use” or “single use” cameras. I think more camera recycling programs should be brought to light (no pun intended) as there are some out there that do recycle single use cameras.
The point-and-shoot photo at 11:34 of the building and the sign with the mountain in the background is gorgeous, even with the slight underexposure and lens flare - I feel like it just adds character :)
i've recently bought the minolta because of your videos and i'm soo excited to start shooting with it! i was also always wondering how the minolta point and shoot would compare to a disposable camera so your comparison was soo helpful to watch!
I really can't get my mind around it. It happens so often that someone is genuinely disappointment that their photos underexposed, but then show the most gorgeous photos from the bunch. I saw a Reddit post a bit back, where someone showed a slightly underexposed photo they liked. Virtually all the responses were people giving tips on how to avoid making ugly photos in the future. Once again, I thought it was one of the better pictures I saw that day.
Came down here to say this! He kept commenting on being disappointed in many of these photos, but I found every single photo to be really lovely on both cameras. The variations in the exposure, colors, shadows, aberration, edge blur, etc were beautiful regardless - those little accidents and inaccuracies are what I love about film. I would actually be more disappointed if every shot I got was perfectly exposed and had perfectly consistent colors. If I wanted that I would just shoot a digital camera on auto
I really enjoy your videos, especially when you take landscape photography with film. I hope you can share tips in future videos about landscape photography with film!
I like the color rendering of the film on the disposable camera but I prefer the performance of the Minolta. Combine those and you have a great lightweight travel camera.
The timing of this video couldn't be better. I was contemplating whether to take a point and shoot to a festival next week or a disposable camera. To my surprise I think it will be the disposable camera. The image quality seems to be ok as long as I can tolerate the lo-fi look and it won't bring me to tears if I accidentally lose it. At least not because of the camera itself
I agree I love disposables for festivals!! if u drop it or lose it it’s not a big deal and many people are comfortable and familiar w using them ❤ I once had a security guard pick up my disposable from over the rail and take my picture
Teo i looove the music in your videos. I would love to like follow you in Spotify and listen to some of your playlists... your videos, especially with the music, kinda always feel like a soft hug 🥹
i mean, i hate disposable cameras out of principle (they're disposable, just like everything else in the modern world), but they do have a certain look, and they are very practical
Thanks for the new video! Very calming journey, and I love the comparison. I would be very interested in the SLR vs. some other film camera comparison!
I love your videos they are amazing & are very insightful!! I was wondering if you could do a Q&A about you yourself & is this your full time job & about your journey to this point in your life as a photographer/influencer? As I would like to get into making videos & share my photography as a full time job. 😆📸
I think in your previous video had smaller grain that made the video crisp . The bigger grains and youtube's compression makes the video quality look kinda awful, but good video btw
Not germane to the camera comparison, but I loved your elongated shadow in several of the GoPro shots and kinda wish they'd made it into your still compositions.
I'm actually surprised at how close the film stocks are 🤔 Ultramax looks a little more blue and constrasty but that's about it. Otherwise great video as always! 😉🫶
17:34 is a really beautiful shot also the disposable is the clear winner for me personally based on this video i really hate the yellow brownish greens of the point and shoot
Ahh glad you like it! Oh please keep in mind that the camera has little influence on the colours. The greens look different because the cameras are using different films. The point & shoot had a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 in it, which is actually a film I dislike for similar reasons that you wrote, however it was fitting for the comparison in the video🙌🏼✨ Just wanted to point this out👍🏼
Another thought, this may be against your process of shooting film, but those casts are totally fixable in post/scanning. I don't mind editing that bit in post since the scanner is making that color balance decision already, but I'd get if you're not about it. But yeah listen to Teo that's a film stock thing more than a camera thing.
@@teocrawford yeah you're right should've chosen my words differently i just don't like what came out of the film and camera combination, the yellow greens together with the sharper image feel a bit unpleasant to me just a general impression
Glad you liked them! Please keep in mind, that the cameras don't have much influence on the colours. The difference in colour is because the cameras were shooting a different film :)
A very lovely video Teo! Loved yr video style and yr music selection. Would definitely follow yr music playlist if you have one :) Looking forward to your next video.😊
hello teo! i have a video suggestion for u. i think it would be awesome if u make a video about color gradding. many people are trying to get that "film look" but dont know how, i think that would be helpful!
Hi! Thank you for your suggestion. I actually have quite a few colour grading tutorials that you can learn from on my Patreon :) You can check it out here, if you're interested: www.patreon.com/teocrawford
I feel like a lot of the P&S shots are pretty fixable in scan/post. Obv not the point of this video but that shot in 15:24 is definitely recoverable (unless this already is your recovery lol). And the difference in sharpness is brutal between those two. That said in good lighting the disposable did better than I expected. There's definitely utility in a disposable, and less to go wrong.
Ohh that is already the recovered version haha :,D But yes, I was also positively surprised how well the disposable camera did, however I can't stand the plastic lens look :,)
Hi! I couldn’t really tell but did you use flash on your disposal? I feel like that’s a debate I have with myself in some brighter lighting if I need to use it or not and can’t really tell if it actually makes a difference in the brighter lighting situation like you have in shoot 1
@@MonicaLethbridge When shooting in daylight the flash will not make any difference. Flash is only useful to brighten up subjects close to you (1-5 meters)👍☺️
@@teocrawford ahhh thank you so much. I just got back from NH with my boyfriend and got the film back and ahhh the pictures on the lake with the mountains came out so good my heart is happy. I really should buy a film camera at this point lol
Hey Teo! Amazing video once again! I'm still considering buying some disposable cameras during my Japan trip next year but I've got a Fuji X100T and might be inclined to use that instead. Quick thing though: could you add the names of the songs used in each timestamp? Or are they only available for Epidemic Sound subscribers?
Try the disposable for fun but u should still mainly use the x100T If ur new to film your shot will be a lottery and can’t produce consistent good shot like him
Hi Teo I have a question about rookie film scanning haha. I was using my Canon MG3620 printer the other day to scan my documents and I realised, what if I use the printer's scanner to scan the negatives? Do you have any suggestions regarding printer scanning? Keep up the great work Teo!
Hi, I'm not too familiar with scanners, but you could give it a try I guess. However I don't want to get your hopes up too high. If the scanner is made for documents it will probably not be very good at scanning a detailed range of colour which for colour negatives is of course essential. But as said, I'm not too familiar with scanners, I'm just guessing here :)
You need a backlighting unit to scan negatives and most printer scanner combos don't have that. If you want to use your printer, you will have to scan lab prints and that kinda defeats the purpose. Good scanners for negative scanning would be Epson v600, v700, v750 etc. Don't bother with the v330 - I had that when I started with film 12 years ago and it was terrible. If you can find a used v600 it's a good compromise between price and flexibility, but keep in mind that flatbed scanning is very slow for 35mm film. I only scan 120 film and bigger on the v700. And you only need the bigger variants, v700+ if you shoot large format film which I do occasionally. Only difference between v700 and the new v850 is lamp warmup time, the quality is pretty much exactly the same so you can save yourself 1K bucks by buying a used one. Imho DSLR/mirrorless scanning is a much more sensible way of scanning though because it's faster and processing time matters. If I didn't have a v700 and a Pakon already from 10+ years ago I wouldn't bother with scanners nowadays. At least scanners are very long lived though. I bought my Pakon used and it was released in 2006. Still runs fine almost 20 years later which is pretty amazing. The v700 is 10 years old too and hasn't broken although I've put hundreds of rolls through it.
@@LillySchwartz Hello! Thank you for your detailed explanation! I've actually recently saw a few videos regarding good-quality film scanning at home, that doesn't involve a digital camera. The V series of Epson seem to be the go-to for this scenario like you said, and the overall price from those 4 years+ videos seem to be just about $100 US. The price now on ebay seem to have inflated about around $200 dollars now for the V600 and honestly I'm okay with investing that much, BUT FOR SOME REASON the shipping for all those products to where I live (Canada) seems to be $200 Canadian as well (you heard it right, $200 for shipping from the US). The new Epson V600 is $440 Canadian on Amazon and is above my budget at the moment, I think I will stick to the film labs for now. Hopefully in the future I can afford or the prices drop down (prob won't and will go up) for these scanners :( . Thank you once again for your experience :))
