I was taught this in school as early as 8/9 in Scotland. We were taught about the Atlantic slave trade, African slave traders, the Barbary slave trade and the enslavement if Europeans buy the ottomans, Persians and north Africans, Vikings, Norman's and Romans. How adults in 2023 still don't understand what actually happened is rather alarming. It's no wonder racism is so rampant when people simply aren't educated.

Of course every country or nationality had slaves, but the inhumane way Europeans treated the African man woman and child was the true act of the devil. Can’t be compared, the white man took evilness to another level, and by the way young guys don’t get to far over your heads and think you’re playing on an equal playing field, because you’re not, we as black people don’t have much power at all because we don’t own much, believe it or not that horrifying murder on black Wall Street itself still has a negative impact on us. Guys y’all alright but trust me the impact of slavery is still here and still happening today, I’m so many ways.

As a white British man who has served in the royal navy I believe I could have contributed a good amount to the discussion.... the traditions and customs of the RN make sure that the history is kept alive, usually by a ceremony to commemorate a significant battle or event, every ceremony is an opportunity to learn what happened. The west Africa squadron patrolled the coast searching for slave traders from any country, even if they hadn't stopped slavery. The RN had " articles of war" issued by the king and government to stop and search all ships and free any slaves ( having even just one slave meant the ship and everything on board was confiscated) for which a bonus was paid for every slave freed. The West Africa squadron would destroy any prison forts built on the shoreline to hold the slaves ready for shipping when the transport ships came in..
This went on for around 50 years and cost 20,000 lives, some to illness and the rest in battle when some tried to fight or had an escort of a military or well armed ship or ships..... the RN would regularly go up against larger numbers ( especially Spanish) ship's because the Spanish had a weakness that limited their rate of fire and were not as well trained.... the weakness was the large amount of cannons on board ( which looked pretty intimidating) that out matched the RN gunners, but they were different bores ( took different sizes of cannon balls) but the RN had the same cannon balls, so even during fast and extreme manoeuvres that could send balls rolling over the deck every one could be used anywhere, but the Spanish had to check every one every time..... that's the end of the lesson today 😂

He was a PhD level Historian. He was the first professor that ever gave me an education EXACTLY like the one shown in this video. And he told it from the West African perspective. I remember looking around at all of my class mates and, not surprisingly, many of classmates didn't believe the professor. Even though he was born and raised in West Africa, knew his history both personally and as a PhD academic! It was an interesting class. He even went into very great detail about some of the more frivolous reasons for selling slaves; some people were sold off just for a trade of trinkets and odd new inventions from the new world.
By the end of the semester, the professor really blew my mind, he was incredibly knowledgeable on US History and he was very passionate about it as well. I think of him often.

Act 1. Workers will now have an equal voice at the bargaining table, Unions to the rescue!
Act 2. Unions are going great, the middle class is expanding as the people actually doing the labor are being rewarded in a more fair manner!

Thomas Sowell was a self described Marxist, even after being a student of Milton Friedman. After working for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, he realized the government bureaucracy was not interested in assisting anyone with anything but rather growing the bureaucracy and securing their own job security. If the HUD “solved” problems, they would be out of business. This was a huge awakening for Thomas Sowell and was the beginning of his change. Loved the discussion, keep up the great work. Look at the past 50 years, the government grew and grew but people's lives overall are getting worse. They have run up huge debt that will burden us all on wars that enriched corporations and politicians and generations will be left with the fall out. Money to bail out crooked banks and fund dangerous bioweapon labs. And on and on. Look at the native Americans too. Live in abject poverty begging for crumbs from government for generations. The 'equity' they are banging on about now is in reality the equity of enslaving 99% of us equally -black, white, or whatever equally enslaved to the system and permanently.

@bastiat No, see that's where we're wrong. Hate isn't acceptable, but it should NOT be legislated - UNLESS the speech advocating hate is calling for physical violence, and taking action against an individuals rights.
We shouldn't arrest people - on any side of the aisle - for being racist. It's part of having free thought, and freedom of speech. But legislating against hatred is where humans start screwing things up - which leads us to problems we have now.
If you don't want your child being exposed to LGBT agendas, you should be able to speak out about it; because you also KNOW the people in charge at the moment would LOVE to arrest and detain any trump supporter, or any anti-lbgt, pro-life person - because the same people labeled those things hate. Understand?
ie. You make racism illegal (it never was, you just cant do racist THINGS), but then the people in power start calling EVERYTHING racist. Which is what is happening right now in our society.
Do something against the 'agenda', and you're automatically an istaphobe.
Freedom of speech secures things people WANT to hear AND DONT WANT TO HEAR. More important than that, is they have the RIGHT TO SAY THOSE THINGS.
Again, as long as you're not advocating any physical violence and harm, it should be allowed. This protects you today, if the people in power are on your side, or against your side. It secures equality for all.
Hate is acceptable, there are plenty of things I "hate". It is physical violence, segregation, or apartheid, that should be illegal, and legislated.
And I'll remind folks - over the last couple years, there are colleges, middle schools and gradeschools that have began 'dorms for minorities only'. Elementary and grade school kids are being segregated into minorities, and whites. And even, I can't beleive I have to say this, 'graduations for minorities only'.
THIS is racist. This is segregation. This is apartheid, and should be fixed.
What would Dr. Martin Luther King say about these events? Exactly. He'd be pissed.

I went in the military in 89 and racism of any type wasn't tolerated at that time. I honestly thought it was pretty much a dead issue except from KKKand Black Panther types the entire time I was in . When I got out I lived right next to MLK Ave in Vegas for few years never had any bad experience. Then moved back to NC in early 2000s In. Wake county. The fist day of school all 3 of my kids came home from 3 different schools talking about how many times they were called whiteboy or whitegirl by teachers and students .We were more than surprised and talked to the kids about it and told them not to hold it against any of the ones doing it and just try and get along then my son got off the bus white marks where he was choked by a young black boy for sitting in the wrong set as it was only for black kids. The next day I got a call from the school even before I had a chance to call the school and they wanted me to come in. To my surprise they asked me to come in ASAP when I got there I was meet by 3 administration people and the vice principal who proceeded to tell me how my son was suspended for a week even though he did nothing but stop the kid from choking him and they even admitted that he only defended his self and all witnesses and the driver had the same story. We as a family learned a big lesson that day .

Unfortunately, American education on the subject of słavery is abysmal, it leaves out way too much. Słavery across the globe and throughout time wasn’t because someone had a certain skín color and if those people weren’t there słavery wouldn’t exist. Yes, in North America for a time race was the excuse that was used, so was religion, but those were only the excuses used.
Many people seemingly only want to díscuss North America or put more an emphasis on it saying it was far worse than anywhere else. So let’s clear up some things. we often hear people say 400 years but actually Błack people didn’t become the majority of słaves in Notth America till the mid 1700s. Which lasted until 1865, just over 100 years. Still horrific, still clearly an injustice and críme against humanity but certainly not an isolated event. Before that the majority of słaves in Ameríca were the índigenous tríbes/First Nations people. In fact 400 years really doesn’t even scratch the surface, słavery existed for tens of thousands of years, if not hundreds of thousands. Słaves and índentured servànts were used for labor and/or s3x.
There are a lot of mísconceptions regarding índentured servantš, índentured servànts weren’t always treated better, nor did they always agree to be índentured servànts (that’s right there were iídentured servànts that were forced into servítude, just like słaves). Sometimes the contract holder would sell the contract of the índentured servànt to someone else without their consent, thereby extending the contract (so 20 years could become 40). Another thing they would do is førce the wømen to get pregnant, which would also extend their contracts and keep them pregnant till old age (by then owing more years, than they had years of life left and I’ll let you figure out how they førced them to get pregnant).
How about słavery, so many people make arguments it was only horrifíc in Ameríca and that it wasn’t that bad here or there but is that true? Słavery as already mentioned existed for thousands and thousands of years, all across the globe. Chattel słavery did in fact also exist in Afríca and it wasn’t a kinder gentler form of słavery; unless you consider mass human sacrifíce and canníbalísm kinder and gentler. Słavery existed in Afríca well before Eurøpeans showed up and Afrícan rulers fought the Eurøpeans in order to keep it going. In the Middle East the słave market was huge, the słaves brought in were often castràted (so no, that wasn’t a kinder gentler form either). Słavery existed in Asia and Asía is still infamous for having sweatshops. The Vikíngs often raided Eurøpe and took słaves back with them. The wømen they took served the Viking men, both work and s3x. When the słave øwner díed, the wøman he had as a słave would often be gàng ràpéd by the men in the village and kīlled to serve the owner in the afterlife. Ancient Romans brutałły ensłaved other Europeans and people around the Mediterranean. In the Amerícas the Natíves enslaved others Natíves and also had human sacrifíce. The point is słavery was and is horrifíc, all over the world it’s horrifíc and has been for a very very long time (that’s not minimizing it for one group to say that, in fact it’s minimizing everywhere else to not recognize it was horrific all over).
How about chattel slavery? Here is the thing, you can’t ensłave descendànts if there aren’t any. The Barbary słaves often had a much shorter lífe span and had no hope of procreatíon. Many díed chaíned in the ínterior of the ship sitting in their own excrèment covered in open wøunds or díed chaíned to a sínking ship that lost a battle. There was no fèmale companíonship, no livíng to an old age, no sunshíne, no høpe … Just the incredibly harsh realitíes of the shíp for the rest of their short míserable líves. In the Middle East the vast majoríty of słaves were castratèd and agian never had the opportuníty to reprøduce. Many of which didn’t even survíve being castrated. Does anyone really think that’s any “better”? Also, this idea many people have that chíldren of słaves were born free across the globe or słaves weren’t sold as property (except in Ameríca) is absurd.
When people say that in North Ameríca it was wørse or Eurøpeans have the most to be błamed for (which is said a lot lately), that isn’t intellectually honest and is blatantly ígnoring the atrocitíes commítted around the globe. Yes, it was horrific in North America AND it was/is horrific across the globe throughout mankind’s history. When people blame only group of people over everyone else, it is in fact minimizing the atrocitíes committed everywhere else. Those people are doing precisely what they blame other people for doing (i.e., “minimizíng” the atrocitíes of słavery, except they are minimizing it around the entire world).

      @Derna1804 Рік тому +7

@@yourereadingmyusername Slaviti in Serbo-Croatian means to celebrate, so it's the same word for glory or celebration. The word slave does in fact come from the word Slav. In the Medieval Greek of the Byzantine Empire, Sklabos was both the word for Slavic people and for slaves. Just as the words servant and serf come from the Latin word servus, which could mean either a free or unfree person who served another. The Scythians raided the interior of Eastern Europe and traded slaves to the Greeks in the Classical Period, while Macedonia was occupied by the Ottoman Empire until the 1st Balkan War ended in 1913. Since slavery continued in Turkey until the early 20th century, one can glean that the history of Slavs being targets for slavery was nearly 3,000 years long. Slavery has a peculiar history in the Ottoman Empire, since the elite fighters of the Janissary corps were all raised as soldiers after being taken as slaves from Christian families, and the most intelligent boys were trained to be the empire's chief ministers and commanders. The cavalry were the Sipahis, who were assigned a fief called a timar, and all of the Dhimmis, non-Muslims, on that land were his property. This encouraged people to convert to Islam in order to gain legal rights, but also reduced the income of the Sipahis. Eventually the Janissaries became so influential, that the resulting in-fighting between free Muslims and Janissaries resulted in the Sultan himself becoming a sort of slave, confined to his palace to prevent succession crises or removal of the privileges and influence of the various classes.

My son and his bestie in kindergarten had no concept of racism. My son is mixed but can "pass" for White-ish. His friend is 100% Black. They didn't know they were "different" from one another... Until they went to school. The SCHOOLS "taught" them about slavery and racism. I remember the day when my son came home from school telling me that his friend "Andrew" could be his slave... I went weak in the knees and needed to grab something to hold on. My first response were tears that came immediately to my eyes, I had to turn away from my sweet boy so he would not see me trying to compose myself. I was crushed. That school has taught him and his friend they were different in terms of not the color of their skin, (they knew that of course,) but it what their "worth" was 100s of years ago. SOCIETY (and sadly, yes, our schools,) TEACHES us to be racist toward one another.

The school teaching history--so that we may not repeat it and we can learn from it--is doing the right thing. Sheltering your kid and shielding them from the realities of the past will ultimately do them more harm than good. Better he learns now and can grow and develop to despise the idea of inequality and love justice, kindness, etc (make these things a pillar of his being) than to never know and be unprepared when he has to face these harsh realities.

@@Spadookie Lincoln did not like slavery. Lincoln could never have freed the slaves without the civil war. It was in the constitution from the outset (or the southern slave states would have never joined). The only way to make slavery illegal was to amend the constitution and to do that the slave states would have to vote for it and they weren't going to do that. In fact the Emancipation Proclamation didn't free the slaves in the North. Maryland, Deleware, Kentucky, and Missouri slavery was still legal as they had not joined the war against the Union and they had the right to keep slavery under the constitution. These states did change their laws in the 1864-1865 time frame to end it in the Union states.
In the end the the South starting the civil war was the only way slavery was ended. Once they made war on the union they lost their right in the constitutional ammendment process. The union after the war as they let the Confederate states back in made it a requirement to abolish slavery in the admittance back into the union. Some areas like West VA in 1863 became states and were admitted into the union because they did that.

What it does do is set out rules for how slaves are to be treated. I imagine that in a hundred or so years, things we think are normal will be considered to be evil because technology and people's views will undergo many changes. It is hard to know what those changes will be, because we have no idea how the future will unfold.
If I raise a cow for food, is it wrong? If I take the eggs from chickens to eat, is it wrong? If I use a horse to do my work, is it wrong? I can imagine that in the future it could be viewed as evil, but to me, it is not wrong, it is not a sin, it is something that is needed for survival. In the past, owning slaves was exactly the same thing. It was not something that was evil to the people that were involved. It went on for thousands of years, because people felt it was needed.
I have no idea what your past is. I'm not sure if you are religious or what religion might interest you. I do not know if you are using a dictionary definition or sin or a biblical definition. Webster's dictionary defines sin as:
a: an offense against religious or moral law
b: an action that is or is felt to be highly reprehensibleit's a sin to waste food
c: an often serious shortcoming : FAULT
2a: transgression of the law of God
b: a vitiated state of human nature in which the self is estranged from God
The KJV of the Bible states: Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
The verse covers both God's laws and man's laws, as long as man's laws are not trying to override God's laws.
The Bible allows for slavery, so it does not violate God's laws. How those slaves were treated is what is important when it comes to deciding Biblical sin.
The definition used by Webster seems to preclude it being a sin, too. Slave owners followed the law. It was the norm of the time. It was acceptable by society. There was no wickedness from the views of the people involved. What has changed is time, people's views, and technology. Now most sane people view slavery as evil, but when it was in common use, it was no different than using animals to do work, eating cows, or taking eggs from chickens. You are the one that is rationalizing to believe that slavery was wickedness in the past. Most other major religions allowed for slavery too.
You brought up abortion to prove your point, but abortion would be a violation of God's laws, so clearly it is a sin, even if people feel it is normal. The laws that allow abortion would be against God's laws, so the laws themselves would be sinful.

As a white kid it was no problem. It was mixed about 50/50 then black/white. Everybody got along great. My bestie was Frank Mays..He is black and we must have spent the night on sleepovers every weekend. Both moms would come to the basement with treats like english muffin pizzas etc and yell down to go to bed at around 11. We never did hahaha..stayed up watching TV until the channels went off for the night. Thomas and I shared some emails..he is a great writer.

      Peer review is very important.
Peer review is how we know which Dr's to listen to and which to ignore.
Over 99 percent of biologists, geologists and climatologists all agree that humans cause the earths temperature to rise. Less than 1 percent of biologists disagree and think humans are not a problem.
I'm gonna go with the 99 percent.
Dr Sowell is not respected, believed or trusted by other Drs in the same subject.
      Check his peer reviews.
99 percent of economists think racism is an obvious problem. Less than 1 percent of economists dont think racism is a problem.
Im gonna go with the 99 percent.
Its shocking to see how easy racist, right wing propaganda can fool so many people.
The idea that racism isnt a problem is insane.
No theres no point arguing with me. Its not me you are arguing with. GO CHECK HIS PEER REVIEWS.
Its not my opinion that Sowell is a fool. Its all the other academics opinion. If your about to say how wrong i am then you best be ready to disagree with almost every economist in America.
No other respected academic agrees with him.
      Sowell is obviously wrong.
You can tell he is wrong by the looking at prison stats.
      Or school stats.
      Or health stats.
      Or police stats.
      Or housing stats.
      Or business stats.
      Or welfare stats.
This truly is such a dumb argument.
On one side you have Jackie Robinson, Martin Luthar King, Mohammed Alli, Malcolm X, Reverent Jessie Jackson, Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, Barrack Obama and Colin Kaepernick. Who all say racism has been and is a big problem.
On the other side you have Sowell saying no its not racism thats a problem.
It what universe is this even a debate.
race riots in 1935, 1966, 1992, 2020. Race riots all over america. but yet this old timer says theres no problem with racism in america. Its absolute madness.
You might as well try to convince me that up is down and north is south.
Now follows some of Sowells own words and opinons.
Sowell assessed President George W. Bush as "a mixed bag" but "an honorable man."
Two weeks before the 2016 presidential election, Sowell recommended voters to vote for Trump over Hillary Clinton. In 2018, when asked on his thoughts of Trump's presidency, Sowell replied, "I think he's better than the previous president."[17]
During interviews in 2019, Sowell defended Trump against charges of racism.
Sowell "Barrack Obama was the worst president in the history of america".
ITS ALMOST AS IF SOWELL HAS SOME SORT OF RIGHT WING AGENDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      HES A RACIST LIAR.

To be fair, it’s almost all intellectually bias off their feelings. This would be all NEW information to them and it may very well drive an emotional based response. A few of them were left speechless at times because the realization hit that a large portion of history (objectively, politically centered bias taught history) was left out of what they’ve been spoon fed by the the state their entire lives.
There’s a lot of nuance to be broken up and dismantled mentally speaking. 5th generational ware fare involves dividing the social structure through in-fighting.
The Soviets studied it through their term and saw the rise and fall in effect. It only takes a few generations of propaganda to push a revolution and it generally starts with using the emotions of the marginalized to garner leeway.
Even if we’re looking at this through a racial standpoint, this was a tactic that whites used against whites. It was perfected over the years and specifically highlighted on grapes and political issues to raise social awareness and power structure.
Keep in mind that the Nazis convinced an entire nation that it was the Jews that were at fault for all of their problems. They didn’t just come out of nowhere. Social influence and propaganda goes along way, and the point that the right makes is that historically speaking, they always start with the basic fundamentals of freedoms. The freedom to self preservation (staying strapped and armed) to freedom of speech.
Those are the two main things at the moment being attacked fundamentally speaking in our country’s culture. The fact of the matter is, we are technically in a cultural war with ourselves. It may not seem that is that big of a deal, because bloodshed isn’t was being sacrificed at the moment, but politics, run downstream from culture and politics initiate literal Civil War. Remember, this win Texas beefs with California over some BS that we see as insequential, like two parents splitting up, and the mother running off to California, and grooming their boy to transition into a girl. Does the dad have any say on that dynamic? He does in his state, but the problem lies when she bounces to California for protection.
California Macy that is kidnapping and since the child’s livelihood (future reproductive organs) are at stake that playing to this child’s future will being… is the father just f*cked and has no saying in his child’s future?
There’s a lot of gray area that’s coming more to light, that the more is normalized will further the issue into a snowball effect. At some point, the states will get involved, because they are responsible for their people and as you know, the states are in agreements with one another with fundamental livelihoods.
All in all it’s a perfect concoction for Civil War. It’s only going to take one storyline and media following.

That implies the slaves were brought by africans themselves and sold at the coastline.....not conquered directly by the Europeans. African people enslaved its own people first.
