      I wonder how noisy it is under heavy rain. I know no one is sleeping in it on a rainy night, but the noise could be heard from other houses in the summer night. Am I worrying too much?

      Whoever designed this greenhouse needs to rethink the design. Not only the door opening inward but the polycarbonate is aligned incorrectly. Who attaches corrugated horizontally? Ana White.
      Don’t attach the corrugated sheets horizontally!

      Not as noisy as a tin roof. A little noise for hail resistant covering is well worth it. Anyway it’s the hail that makes noise rain would be the same as it hitting your skylight or window.

      We seriously considered turning it into more of an indoor arboretum. Put a small round table with 4 chairs in the middle and have all manner of plants, flowers, bushes, etc. all over the place, hanging, crawling, sitting on shelves and the wall. Wouldn't that be a wonderful way to spend time with some friends.

    Where to start... that little child helping out in the beginning was so cute. So nice to see kids learning real world skills.
    Your greenhouse is beautiful. One other nice thing, well, very nice thing, about having your plan is that you have marked out on it the work saving tips like the roof brace, tagging cross member and other piece locations while still on the ground, etc.
    I wish I could do something like this. But I can barely walk ten feet, can't get on the ground, no family or friends to help and really, no money to even just buy parts, let alone hire someone. But I can watch your videos and admire all your work on all your projects. Keep it up girl. I hope you go far in life with your skills. May God bless you and your family.

    We printed out the plans for this greenhouse. We bought the lumber and supplies, painted all wood before the build. We are in Alaska and cost was approx. $1700. for materials and door. Used screws instead of nails. Things went together pretty well for handy people who aren't carpenters. Problem we had was with the ridge cap pieces that were hard to bend. Maybe made for different angled roof. Love my greenhouse. Put shelves in because I don't like to bend over. Also, shelves make room for supplies beneath. This plan also makes it easy to have hanging baskets. Thank you for putting plans together!

    This is such a great size and design! After 13 years in limbo, I finally put up my aluminum kit greenhouse last month with the invaluable help of my brother, who was storing it for most of that time. This is absolute heaven, finally having a greenhouse. It is also 9' x 13' and an A-frame design which is just a wonderful size and shape for a small property- mine is just shy of a fifth of an acre. The extra foot of width really makes a difference compared to an 8' x 12' footprint. If another greenhouse ever happens I will absolutely be building from scratch with wood although I might glass the lower wall too, as I am in central Maryland and we just don't get the extended brutal winters the folks north of us do. Congratulations Ana on a new classic!

      Same here... bought one of them, put it up, a few months' later, 60+ mph straight line winds (which the specs said that it could withstand), and it was gone. Collected all the polycarbonate panels in the neighborhood, and salvaged them, planning to build a sturdier frame for them, and STILL haven't done it, because of the experience.

    • @ronjones4069
      @ronjones4069 3 роки тому

      I think this is actually cheaper than the cheap alunimum polycarbonate type greenhouse kits. By the time you re-enforce the alunimum ones, sink extra supports in the corners, add extra weather stripping and springie clips in the polycarbonate windows, you are into it at least as much as the basic price of goods for this one. And, you wont' have to continually by new blown away, broken, sun rotted, polycarbonate windows. And, it will stand up to big winds.

    • @rhondaalbrecht
      @rhondaalbrecht 3 роки тому

      @@ronjones4069 Exactly. The heartache of watching your greenhouse that you put together from one of those cheap kits, as it blows away in 60 mph straight-line winds is enough to not make you want to try again... at least, any time soon after it happens. I know, from personal experience. Especially when that was one of the things I checked on, directly with the manufacturer, and they assured me, oh, it'll hold up fine! RIGHT!

A plywood full plate is better yet. Your bottom plate must be pressure treated, this one wont last 5 years. You can lift it with a bar and add blocks of PT wood, fill in with gravel. Nice little cabin.

    After going over these plans there is one thing I would recommend changing. They have the wall studs at 54.5" cutting 2 from a 2x4x10. This wastes almost an entire foot of wood on each board in order to compensate for the siding. Instead it makes more sense to make the studs at ~72" cutting 2 from 2x4x12s. This leaves you with 0 waste and makes the walls 6 feet high, giving you room for a shelf. Of course this means adding 2' of siding on each wall.

    I think I would want to paint all my beams prior to assembly so it would all match my house, inside and out.

    Would be curious how your uncle set it up with the plants inside and also if he uses something to heat it (especially in AK). Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!!

    I would've used treated 2x4's or cedar. There is going to be a ton of humidity in there and regular pine isn't going to hold up well. You could also go all the way down with the clear siding, and use galvanized wire and turnbuckles from corner to corner on the walls in an X for lateral bracing. That would give you more sunlight inside. I'd also set it on crushed pea gravel for drainage, and don't forget to have some sort of anchor in the ground so a storm doesn't flip it.

    So great to watch the construction process. Thank you. Gonna search your site for a gazebo or pergola... if you haven’t done either yet, DEF interested to see you guys tackle them!

    I would love a lean to style greenhouse that is similar to this. I appreciate the thought that was put in to minimize waste. I love efficiency! Do you have any plans like this?
