Hey frequent viewers & up & coming travelers to Hungary. I have been to Hungary many times & I got to tell you in my humble opinion that Mr. & Mrs. Stuffed Cabbage are probably the best travel source about Budapest without using a travel guide book. The time and money they spend on making these videos for us indeed will save you tons of time and dollars when you get to Hungary. Shower them with thanks, comments, Questions and a " cup of coffee ☕️ " These guys are " The Real Deal "
Thank you so much for this Super kind message and your continued support! :) Comments like these really melts our heart and keeps us motivated to continue what we do :)
Useful tip: Google maps can get confused if you are on the Margit Island. It may tell you to swim :) Solution: just set the starting position from "my location" to the tram stop on the bridge.
Hi there I’ve just returned from Budapest & tried everything you mentioned in your videos! Though I don’t speak Hungarian, I managed to use the public transportation easily, and I always remembered to validate my single ticket. The city is mesmerizing and I fell in love with it.. thanks for sharing beneficial information ❤❤
Really happy to hear you enjoyed your time in Budapest! And super happy that our content could help a bit with the trip, hope to have you back some day for some more wonderful experiences! :)
Great video! We used all the public transportation options on our week-long stay in Budapest and we never needed a taxi. Your public transportation is amazing and we never had to wait long out in the cold on any stop. Ourselves, we bought two passes at the airport, the ones that are valid for 15 days, so we didn't have to validate all the time. We had our passports with us and never faced any issues (as the passes are valid for the specific passport ID that are issued for). Congratulations to BKK, they operate a well-functioning system.
I think I am the first Hungarian commenter, and an information is that if you are using mobile, and have a ticket in the app that's valid on your day, you don't need to validate it, it's enough to show that to the safety personnel, if they ask. Oh, and the bus drivers may not care about if you have a valid ticket, they'll usually just let you onboard, and then an other inspector would check it. Also, a random information: You could get to the city centre by the M3 line from the Airport, if that would've been built, but it wasn't. But, you can see it's clues, at Határ út station (where you would have needed to change to a different car, to go towards the airport), there are two tracks in the middle of the station which are empty. It would be *busy* if the tracks would've been finished (also, the stations too), and the subway would probably run 24/7, as the airport doesn't close at night. By the way, don't forget that the 4/6 tram runs 24/7, also.
Thank you so much. This was very helpful so that being said, as long as you have valid pass on the app, you do not need to validate for any public transportation? I just arrived to Budapest and getting the pass today.
@@pennyhatam5451 I suggest validating it, but usually they just simply accept the single not validated one, if it can be seen that it's bought, and it's not expired.
I am confused about whether the 15 day pass must be validated for the metro. The information on the transport website says you need to scan the QR code going into the metro - but you can't do that if you don't have a wifi connection (I don't have data for Hungary). It's clear in the app that the 15 day pass is valid so why would you need to scan it?
@@Carolichka I’m not hundred percent sure about 15 days pass, I have a one month pass and they told me I don’t need to validated it but you need to have it handy if they ever asked for.
@@pennyh2993 I've met several controllers in the past few days on trams, the bus, and at the metro (after meeting none my first couple of weeks in Budapest!). They've all been happy with the me displaying the QR code on my phone while not connected to the internet so it must be ok.
Pro tip. In the airport, find the MiniBud booth and get tickets with them (or reserve ahead of time) and get taken right to your destination. It's a lot easier than the bus, less people, and probably quicker. We use it every time we visit my mother in law in Budapest, and it makes it very easy and quick to get to her home.
I usually get a three day ticket and have fared well with it. Also price is quite reasonable with 4150 HUF. At least you don't have the hassle of validating and buying all the time. You just may to keep it handy as there's ticket inspectors at stations checking before you go down or after you come down (as for the földalatti M1). Sometimes I just ride public transport for the sake of riding and to discover new places. I take one transport, get off somewhere and take the next ond from there and see where I end up. Good to experience it and to get to know the network better. BP is set up really well on Public transport, also cross connections are good and it is easy to get around. Hungarian engineering, well thought through with logic. As I watch these clips I get a big desire to go back soon for a holiday again. It's been four years and I miss BP big time. Szép napot kívánok neked!
Thanks a lot, I started to plan my trip to Budapest and other cities in Hungary and I like that being local I can follow your councils with confidence!
I left Budapest a few days ago but still watched the video 😅, definitely helpful if I return though. I found the public transport in Budapest to be very good and simple to understand, unlike some other cities I have visited
Sad to see the 7 day pass has gone (used it in 2020) and wow the 100 airport bus has gone up! Very good summary of the necessary information. My only additional tip is take the number 2 tram at least once, maybe up to Fővám Square (Fővám tér) and back. Beautiful scenery.
Indeed Tram 2 is like a Tourist Bus ride where a lot of the attraction can be seen for the price of 1 single ticket :) I especially like the part where it goes around the Parliament :) Regarding the 7 day pass, the 15 day pass essentially 800 HUF more than the 72 Hr pass, so I think thats a super value if you stay even just 5 days.
Hey there! Thanks for the kind message, happy to hear we have helped a bit to make your experience here better :) Feel free to say hello if you happen to bump into us on the street :)
Great video again! 😊 We recently visited Budapest in december and we found the public transport system very easy to use! Even the trams had a nice christmas decor and just looked to cute!🥰
We have booked for the end of November for our 40th birthdays and 5th wedding anniversary. Im not saying your videos are the only reason we booked....but they certainly helped convince us we made tne right choice.
I love transportation in Hungary the best I ever seen I used it so much however, in my last visit there was a lot of work on the metro station that was in February and March 2020
Yeah there were several years when parts of M3 were under reconstruction, it was in a very bad shape before that. It was a blessing when they finished the whole line finally and we didnt need to factor changing to replacement buses all the time :)
From the airport, I usually take the 200E to Ferihegy and then transfer to the train into Nyugati. It is all included in my monthly pass. Also, the 4-6 tram does operate 24 hours a day.
Before our recent trip to Budapest we watched a few of Stuffed Cabbage videos. We are so pleased that we did, we found them extremely helpful especially the one about public transport. We decided to purchase a 72 hour travel pass and used it on the buses and the Metro. The transport system is very good and we got to explore different areas of the city by using the buses and different Metro lines. We also visited some of the recommended places and had an amazing time during our stay. We would recommend watching more of these videos before your visit, it made our visit much easier and less stressful. We did struggle with the Budapest Go app at times but we did still use it and it was especially helpful for finding drinking taps and toilets, it was very hot when we visited mid June 2024. Budapest is such a beautiful city and so full of history and stunning architecture. The food was amazing and the people were very friendly and helpful. Thank you
Thank you so much for your encouraging and motivating message! These are the kind of words that help us keep going and we are really happy to see you enjoyed your stay in the city and we hope one day you may return for more adventures, perhaps even beyond Budapest :)
Another good one 👍🏽 As someone who worked in public transit for years, I can say that this was on point. I personally don't like Google for any kind of transit planning, I find it way too unreliable (it randomly doesn't recognise stops/vehicles that are very much there, and vice versa) but I find BudapestGo and Budapesti Menetrend among the best transit apps in Europe. (Kar, hogy most megy a tokoles a Budapest-berlettel, de valamit csak kitalalnak marciusig.)
Yeah, Google is okay for general planning but on the spot what you need to do right now in the moment Budapest Go easily takes the championship. A MÁV/Volánbusz vonalat nem is mertem említeni, nehogy aztan full elrontsák azt és akkor meg nem igaz amit a videó kínál... remélem belátják hogy ebben nem kellene visszalépni a kőkorba politikai célok érdekében....
really informative videos brother. I am travelling to Budapest for 3 days as part of my europe trip with my wife and all the information you have shared is really helpful. thanks a lot
We always just buy a 72 hour pass as we are usually only in Budapest for 3 full days. It's quite cheap and the convenience of not having to validate makes it worthwhile even though we tend to walk most of the time.
@@arbernuka3679 No, you don't have to validate. It's timed and dated so you have 72 hours from that time, so if the inspector asks to see your ticket, you are safe.
@@TrangNguyen-wies I don't think so. There are two buses that run from the airport: 100E which runs direct into the city centre and 200E which has a number of stops on the way. Both are cheap but 200E is cheapest, if I remember rightly.
@@TrangNguyen-wies200E is fine with the normal tickets and passes, but it is a normal line with lot of stops and it doesn't go to the center. 100E requires a special ticket or you can use the card touch system on board.
I am coming to Budapest in April. This is the best travel channel about Budapest. Your channel gives a lot of good and useful ideas and information. Thank you!
EXCELLENT stuff! And great presntation! We just arrived in Budapest and staying for a month. As long-term slow traveling nomads one of the most difficult things - that gets presented as being "simple" - is using local public transportation. It usually starts looking easy and then has a large number of exceptions and specila rules, days, times. etc. You did a great jub explaining things clearly and step-by-step. May I suggest a one-page PDF summary that we could download and refer to would be very helpful. Thanks again!
Thanks! I agree, public transport is what you grow up with and to everyone the ways of their own cities is the "normal" but those may be very different from the "normal" of other cities, so I totally agree that these need to be presented simple 😀 I hope your month long stay here in Budapest will be awesome and hopefully you can visit some other places in the country too 😊Regarding a One Pager, perhaps in the future we may create some written Essential guide... we will see 😊
As of March 1st, Pest county passes and country passes are also usable on BKV. People below the age of 14 can use both volán and BKV for free, the latter was introduced in 2022 or 2023 I don't quite remember.
Your video is very informative and well detailed. We are confident that our transport in Budapest, as well as our touring, will be smooth. Thank you and more power to you.
BudapestGo is a must when you visit Budapest and don't speak Hungarian, so you can check everything twice 😅 transportation system is actually very nice, and M1 metro line is especially lovely!
I think it will be great if you could make a video on how to use the Volanbusz service to go to some remote attractions. Personally, I think their bus timetable it's a bit hard for a tourist to understand.
Just discovered your channel and have been binge watching. I’m just in the planning stage to visit your beautiful city and you guys have answered so many of my questions already! Love that your information is detailed, clearly explained, and with a sense of humour! Well done. 👏Cheers lfrom Canada 🇨🇦!
Thank you so much! Glad you found us! I hope when your trip happens you'll have a great time, and in case you don't find an answer to some questions in our videos, feel free to leave a comment or drop a dm on insta :)
I`ve been watching a few of your videos now and they are really informative while still being fun to watch. thanks so much for this. They really helped out a lot and I am way less nervous now before my trip. Thank you!!
It was perfect!🎉 But there are two things that you sad rwong. Number 1: Not only BKK opertes Budapest Public Transport, Arriva does it too. Number 2: The 6 tram line operates in night too. Have a good day!
Thanks! I already had a mea-culpa moment on the Tram 6, totally forgot that still operates during the night even though I had my fare share of Night-riding that after some long concerts :D Regarding Arriva, I just didn't want to confuse visitors of the city... I also didn't want to dig into how Volánbusz or MÁV comes into picture and how some of the passes are valid for those, that would've been even more confusing for some :)
I been there in 2023 - August. But for very few days. I still want to explore Budapest much more. I loved the city & the vibes. Next Time I m planning to come with my wife & daughter. I guess this video will help a Lot. Love from India. 🇮🇳
O my f god…. Why sooooo complicated??? I just want to enter in a transportation an pay with my phone and that’s it. Any thank you for all the info that you gave us…is very helpful, thx again!
Because it’s corrupt. I detailed how the metro scam works with inspectors shaking down tourists for hefty fines her, but my comment was deleted. The BudapestGo Spp doesn’t record your validation to be visible when offline. So, deep in the metro where there are dead spots and you won’t have internet or mobile connection is where the “inspectors” lurk. So you see, you can use the App, buy tickets, validate them and still be scammed for money by BKK inspectors and you have no way to appeal.
I always use the public transport whenever I’m in BP. Never a taxi and no bus if I can avoid them (I just don’t like busses). Although the tram and HÉV networks are smaller than they were in the old days (I still have a map of BP on the wall from 1954 with all public transport lines; got it from my father, I’m old but not that old 😅), they are still very extensive, frequent and relatively cheap. But I guess I will never see a timetable again, anywhere, that says “in daytime hours: every 30 seconds” (as was the case for trams 4 and 6).
Matyás templom (Natthias church) from Országház (Parliament building) I'd say, with the M2 Metró right over to Széll Kálmán Tér and then you walk up, alternatively no. 2 tram to Jaszai Mári Tér and then the 6/8 Tram to Széll Kálmán Tér and then you walk up or take the 16 bus up; or you take the No. 2 Metró back the other direction to Deák Ferenc Tér and from there the no. 16 Bus, which stops up on Szent Háromság Tér outside of Matyas Templom.
Did you say I needed to scan/validate a pass? Because I thought a 15 day pass and 24 and 72 hour travel cards didn't need to be validated because the validity date was printed on them. Great video by the way, best on you tube!!!
Thanks for the kind message! :) Regarding the validation of passes, what I meant in the video that they need to be scanned or shown (paper based) if there is Front Boarding on a Vehicle. :) So you did it all well, perhaps just didn't need to show your pass to an inspector or a driver :)
Hello, Thank you very much for all your efforts! You're doing a very good job to make our Budapest journey easier! I have two questions: We'll prefer 200E from Airport and we would like to buy group ticketpass (3 Persons). Can we use our ticket on that bus? Do we have to validate it only once or 3 times for each person? We also notice that there are also 60 minutes or 90 minutes single tickets. Can we combine our trip with Tram, M ot bus within (for example) 90 minutes with that ticket? Have a great weekend!
Hey there! If you are refering to the 24 hour Group Travel Card which costs 5,000 HUF, that would be accepted on the regular 200E bus. I personally never used the pass, but in most cases for a pass you need to write the nr of an ID or Passport, and when you purchase you set the time of validity. From that point on it should be valid and no need to validate once on the bus separately :) I assume you may need to enter the IDs of all people who are part of the group. Usually Inspectors don't ask for the IDs, but it may happen that they want to check if the IDs assigned to passes are used by the same people. Regarding the 30 min and 90 min passes, those can be used on any of the vehicles. What matters is that you must board the vehicles within the the given time period. So when you first Board a vehicle and you validate the ticket, from that point on you have 30 or 90 mins to board vehicles. So for example if you have a 30 min ticket, you can get on a bus, travel for 20 mins, then wait for a tram that you board at the 25th minute, you can then go all the way passed the 30 mins, but once you hop off you cannot jump on any other vehicle. I hope this helps :) Have a nice weekend!
Hey Akos, I have a humble request. Is it possible for you to make a Halal Food Guide in Budapest please? Will be going to Hungary in May and it will be a great help if you could do so :)
Hello there! It may take quite some time to produce a video about Halal Food places in Budapest, but what I can tell you is that Leila's Authentic Lebanese Cuisine is often mentioned as a really nice place for food. I've been to their establishment before they moved to their current place, and it was a very nice experience :)
Hey, coming this week. Been watching your videos all night very helpful. Few questions if i download the Budapest go app, can you use it without wifif/data, to see what buses etc to take. If not is wifi/data available in most places including train/bus stations?
Hey there! The app needs constant internet connection and public Wifi is very scarce unfortunately. 😔 Best places to get internet are Cafes mainly. When I was in Japan many years ago and didn't have a portable wifi, what I did was that every day I screenshotted google maps information about what trains to take and used that offline. Luckily Budapest is easy to navigate and easy to discover by walking a lot 😊 Plus you can also buffer your google maps, so you can still track your whereabouts (as GPS does not use data).
Somehow some tourists assumed that the public transportation in Budapest is free since it doesn't have the turnstile and..... Bam! They get caught red handed without valid tickets This video needs to be pinned on the Budapest subreddit
Thanks! :) It unfortunately happens often when we are out shooting videos that we hear Inspectors arguing with tourists... hopefully this video may help prevent at least some of those situations :)
We don’t”assume it’s free” we just think we should get what we pay for, like buying a ticket for a transit ride means we should get transit ride without being abused or ripped off. If you want to use an antiquated validation system from the 1960s, fine. It should still actually work!
Hey there! A video may not come out on that anytime soon, but as a general advice : don't exchange at the airport, the rates are terrible there. In the city center especially near Deák Ferenc tér or Váci utca you'll find many chain and franchise exchange places that are reliable. Just walk around, look at their exchange rates and decide which one you find more better, but it's rare to see huge differences 😊 and in the end, most places accept bank cards 😊
There were no 90' tickets available to buy at the machines, we had to biy two single to get to nyugati from the airport with 200e and M3, the last time there were transfer tickets, not now
Thank you so much for the Support! Tram 2 is indeed like taking a tour bus, I actually prefer taking it sometimes even if it may not be the most optimal way to get to my destination, but the trip is just so nice with it 😊
Szia Ákos jó lett a videó!
The thing I wanted to know, which is where to buy the bus tickets and if we can buy it in the bus, it's not talked about in the video. I'm going to have to guess
This is actually answered at arond 02:25 in the video (Vending Machines or the Budapest Go app). There are no seperate tickets for Buses for Budapest Public Transport. While it is possible to buy a ticket from the Bus driver it is not really advised as you need the exact amount of coins for the tickets and they also cost more vs buying at Vending Machines or via the Budapest Go App. However if you are talking about Domestic Long Distance buses, that is not being discussed in this video, this is only about Budapest Public Transport.
Thanks for the video! I'm heading to Budapest next month and definitely plan to use public transport with a day pass. For the day pass, it only needs to be validated once when I first start the day journey, is that correct?
Hey there! For the day-pass or 72 hour pass the validity starts from the time you set up at purchase, this is by default the time of purchase but you can set up a future date and time. From that point on it is valid 😊
Great video but needs more clarity on what you mean by "night time" ie what time do normal services run to. Also I little more info on where to validate ticket on tram.
Hey there! Night time is not a precise hour, there is a phase where regular daily transport is still going and the night service buses also start to operate. But this transition happens around 22:00-midnight-ish. Regarding the where to validate tickets on a bus or a tram, it will become fairly straightforward as you board since you'll see the large yellow/orange (or if older validator then red) boxes that are located at doors of the vehicles, buses are the same. Hope this helps!
What I didn't get is, if you buy a timed pass (e.g. 72h) on the app, do you still need to scan the QR code every time you enter the bus or metro? And do you need an internet connection for inspection when you bought a timed pass? Köszi szépen a fontos információt! 😊
Hey there! For the 24 and 72h passes the validity starts from the purchase, on vending machines you can set a different starting time for the physical passes. You only need to scan the qr code if you board a "front boarding only" vehicle, or you need to pull up your qr code if there is an inspection. 😉 I hope this clarifies 😊
If you tend to use them next time you visit, please check if the prices have not gone up and tickets haven’t changed design or colour. It happened to me once, prices were still the same as my year old ticket (I checked beforehand) but the colour had changed and though I speak Hungarian fluently, I could not convince the inspector and had to pay the fine. I don’t bother with single tickets anymore, instead I mostly buy weekly or monthly passes whenever I’m in BP. Much more convenient and if you use the system regularly, it may even be cheaper than using single tickets … Jó utat kívánok!
@@andyhorvath6630 I'll remember to just buy a pass next time. Thanks for the tip! I was only there for the day, so it was a whirlwind trip and not well-planned 😅
@@andyhorvath6630You can check the validity info on BKK website under the ticket type. I know that after price changes it is valid for a year, but your case was probably about security marker changes, I do not remember exactly what is the rule there.
Hello very informative video, I have one doubt Suppose we have to travel from point A to point C and which need to change bus at point B.. than do we need to validate our ticket at both A and B points?
Hi there! As explained in the video, for every ride (bus and tram) you need to validate a separate ticket. The only difference is the subway where 1 ticket is valid for the entire network so you don't need 2 tickets if you switch from let's say Metro line 3 to Metro line 2 at a connection point like Deák Ferenc tér station. If you get off a bus then get on a tram or another bus you need to validate a new ticket. I know it's confusing, but it's the way it is 😊
Thanks for the useful information, but in the video I missed the information about the 30 minute and 90 minute transfer tickets, which I think is the most commonly used. I have a question about these transfer tickets. Can they be purchased at the machines or just on the app? And if one person has the app and wants to buy a ticket for himself and also for his friend, how does the validation process work, does he scan the QR code twice when boarding? Thank you, Tom.
Hey there! The app has the 30 and 90 minute tickets indeed. I have read somewhere that there is some way to use one phone for multiple people but it's convoluted and even the transport company advises not to use it that way (I guess you need multiple accounts and log in and out etc but that takes time and sometimes errors etc). Luckily the major stations and center of Budapest is full of vending machines, so buying paper based tickets in absence of the app is fairly easy 😊
Great video as are all your other videos about Budapest. A couple of questions: we are two senior (68 and 72) who are going to Budapest in May. As someone else noted, public transit is free for a least some seniors, but it isn't clear to me if free applies to us, as we are permanent residents of Spain but are citizens of the U.S.A. We have Spanish I.D. cards. Can you clarify? Also, if it is free, do you just board and then show your I.D. if a fare inspector asks? Is it true that there are no turnstiles?
Hey there, I believe the Spanish ID would suffice to be shown when needed, just also say that you are older than 65 when showing the ID. This document shows that IDs for people from EU states are accepted 😊 Local transport discounts - BKK bkk.hu/apps/docs/ertekesites/helyi_kedvezmenyek_en.pdf
Hey there! The 30 min and 90 min tickets are valid for multiple "boardings" within the validity period. So let's say you get on a bus, validate a 30 min ticket, take the bus for 20 minutes, then get off and get on a tram at the 25th minute, you can go all the way with that tram even passed the 30 min mark. However if you get on a vehicle and travel for longer than 30 mins, you cannot get onto another vehicle with that ticket. I hope this helps :)
Hi Akos, The question I have for you is, I understand that seniors are able to ride the transits for free. But how does the ticketing work for this? Please let me know as I will be in Budapest for a couple of months. I am a Hungarian citizen and a senior retired.Cheers Feri
Hey there! People above the age of 65 can ride the public transport of Budapest for free, you just need a valid ID to demonstrate you are above the age limit. Passport is usually the best for foreigners or local Hungarian IDs :)
There is Premier Outlet, a collection of many different shops many at outlet prices, it is not in Budapest but right next to it at Biatorbágy. Other than that, there is also Ázsia Center at the edge of Budapest with lots cheap clothing.Hope this helps 😊
Szia Akos! Thanks for all the great videos. I have a question about trains. Do you know if the MÁV Hungary Pass (1 month) can be bought by foreign tourists, or is it only for Hungarian residents? I looked at the terms and conditions page but didn't find a clear answer. It says there is no discount for foreign students, so it looks like they can buy it for the full price, but I'm not a student. I plan to stay in Budapest and Balatonfüred for 3 weeks and do lots of day trips by train in August-September, the pass seems very good value and it includes Budapest public transport. The MÁV website seems to accept my passport details but I don't know if ticket inspectors on trains will accept foreign ID with the Hungary Pass (I'm Irish).
Hey there! Thank you so much for the Support! The Hungary Pass is available for anyone, you'll just need to connect it with an ID number like a passport and show that ID along with the Hungary Pass upon inspection 😊 the pass is also available in the Budapest Go app, at least that's how I understood from reading online 😊
Hi we are coming to Budapest in March, our accommodation is near Nyugati palyaudvar station what would be the way to get there from the airport please?
Well it depends on how many of you are there, if it's just a few people then either taking the 100E Bus to it's terminus at Deák Ferenc tér, and then switching over to the M3 Subway to Nyugati Pályaudvar is the most convenient (requiring the Special Bus ticket then a regular ticket for the subway), or using 200E with regular tickets to it's terminus at Kőbánya Kispest then switching over to same M3 Subway taking it longer to Nyugati Pályaudvar may be cheaper as only the 2 regular tickets are required in that case (or a timed ticket of 90 mins). If there are a lot more people, while these options are still valid, perhaps a Shuttle Bus like MiniBud would be a convenient solution.
I see tons of videos explaining how to get from airport to city, but seldom talks about the opposite direction. The airport has no S-bahn equivalent or subway connection and only buses 100E and 200E, but how is the experience taking it like? As one who had to choose to catch a 9am flight back Asia from Budapest I am super nervous… only source is possibly chatgpt or just the map app but prefer some real locals to shed light on the experience.
Hey there! The way back is essentially the same. People arrive with planes and others in their place go back and the Bus travel is usually the same experience. If you don't have a super extra amount of Luggage you should be fine with the 100E Bus or the 200E. If your flight leaves at 9 in the morning the checkin kiosks and luggage dropoffs open 2 hours prior to that. Depending on traffic the 100E Bus takes about 30-50 minutes from the city center, so if you leave from Deák Ferenc tér at 06:15 or 06:30 you'll be surely fine to get to the Airport in time. You can use Budapest Go to plan the trip in case you want to go with the cheaper 200E option from Kőbánya Kispest Subway station.
@ thanks for your reply! Omg I did not expect to be replied so really thank you! I am back and I survived my journey to Budapest airport haha. So my tips: 1) start with the first bus stop outside Deak Ferenc metro station where there is a non-driving staff member helping out when boarding. Saying so because 100E actually has a second stop outside Astoria metro statuon but by then the bus will be quite full and not sure if there are staff members assisting outside the bus. I simply booked my hotel opposite the bus stop. 2) The ticket can be prepurchased on app, which will be eligible for validating any time in the next 1 year as I read off the app. But make sure it remains in an “unvalidated” state until the moment you are boarding the bus 100E. To my surprise, the way to validate the ticket is to go into the app, tap on the ticket, and it turns on my phone camera immediately, and then I need to use my phone to scan a QR code presented by the staff member at the bus stop. But that process was smooth as long as you have internet. 3) there have been no specially designated area to place the luggage, so people will just all leave their suitcase in the wheelchair zone. Along the way there may be sharp turns especially near the airport where the articulated bus need to go through a roundabout at some speed. I saw some suitcase fell or slided out at that moment so make sure you secure your bag, or like me, I simply stand with my suitcase clamped by my legs. 4) the alighting point at the airport side is simply outside the departure on the same floor, just like how taxi drop you off in other airports. There will be broadcast in the bus in English right before the last stop to guide you to 2A on the right etc. Overall it is pretty convenient and smooth but did take some time to research. Also per apple map the bus seems to be operating at decent frequency even at hours like 3am. But still advise to be at the bus stop 5-10min in advance in case of some last minute surprise (the bus opens its door for quite some time before it departs). For eg I did see a dude who intended to pay cash spent quite some time at the entrance settling the fees.
I knew about validating my ticket but I did end up going in the wrong direction a number of times!. I thought this video might include something about the two different metro systems which don't seem to interconnect.
Hey there! Not sure what "two metro systems" you refer to, there is a single subway network with M1-M2-M3-M4 lines. There is a Suburban railway line (H5) which starts underground at Batthanyi but comes to the surface after the 2nd stop, however that is not a subway, which is why it doesn't have the "M" designation like the rest and isn't branded anywhere as a metro :)
@StuffedCabbageAdventures You would know better than me. I've only visited Budapest three times. I was referring to the metro that used old Moscow style trains and runs very much like the metros in Russia and Ukraine, and the smaller trains that run on a system that runs just under the surface of one of the main streets. But perhaps I'm confused. One thing I know for sure is that toilets at Keleti station are the dirtiest in Europe! But that's not your fault.
We didn’t Know that we needed an extra ticket to go to that town and the inspectors were so nice and we just paid them and they gave us our ticket! We apologize and they were like I don’t worry about it it happens and they were so nice
It's super nice to see there are some inspectors who are this nice! Usually they are looked down upon but stories like this helps ease on their image! 😊
Hey there! The Passes do not need to be validated, they are valid from the time you set up at purchase. If you buy a physical paper based pass you may need to present it to inspectors or on front boarding buses need to show to the driver. If you buy via the Budapest Go app on the phone, you'll need to show your phone to the inspector, or scan a qr code on the front boarding vehicle and show display to driver, 😊
Hi, just to clarify, I saw on the BKK website that day passes (paper ticket) and group day passes (paper ticket) don't need to be validated, is this true? Also as a group of 5, is it worth just getting a group day pass as its the best value for money?
Hey there! Passes do not require additional validation (only the single tickets), they are valid from the time/date you set up when you purchase. The 24h group ticket for 5 people is good value, yeah. 😊
Hey there! It's not complicated it's 1 pass either physical or digital but valid for group of max 5 people, works same way as the single person passes, so need to show physical paper upon inspection or the qr code in the app upon inspection or scan the qr code when boarding the front boarding only vehicles and show the animation on screen. As 200E is a regular service bus the pass is valid there yes. (100E is the special service bus from Airport and the passes are not accepted on that bus). Have a lovely travel 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures thank you when we were in paris we bought 5 different daily pass for 5 people and we would scan the tickets from the machine near to the bus driver should we also scan the group pass in 200E or do we just hop in and don't do anything at all
@@ahmetbilgin208 for the Passes there is a validity period set. A date and a time basically, you set that up when you purchase it. From that point on its valid no need to validate again, just show it upon inspection or on front boarding vehicles show it to the driver 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures thank you again and one more thing when we want to use the group daily ticket in metros do we just scan the ticket and give it to the next person in turnstile or is there no turnstile at all
Hello, does it mean that I need only one validated ticket for example if I travel from Szell Kalman to Hosok tere, with changing from red to yellow line?

As a first time traveler to Budapest from USA, your videos are extremely helpful and entertaining 🙌
Hi there
I’ve just returned from Budapest & tried everything you mentioned in your videos!
Also, a random information:
You could get to the city centre by the M3 line from the Airport, if that would've been built, but it wasn't.
Good to know, especially the tap and pay option for the 100e bus to the city center!
Szép napot kívánok neked!
do you have to validate 3day tickets one time or it comes validated from machine
Thanks a lot, I started to plan my trip to Budapest and other cities in Hungary and I like that being local I can follow your councils with confidence!
This guy is great ! Great tips and support for visiting hungry Budapest
I Came to budapest from Iran. your videos really helped me to understand better here I hope I could see you here so I could thank you!
Hey there! Thanks for the kind message, happy to hear we have helped a bit to make your experience here better :) Feel free to say hello if you happen to bump into us on the street :)
This entire series of videos on Budapest is excellent! Great work, and thanks for so much valuable information.
Thank you so much! Really happy you enjoy the videos and find them useful, I hope your visit to Budapest will be excellent! 😊
Glad to hear the videos may have helped a bit with your decision! I'm sure you won't regret coming here and hope you'll have an excellent time! :)
We navigated Budapest after watching your videos. Thank you!
A must watch. Trams, Metro tickets were checked multiple times daily. 15 day pass is the only way o go❤😊
From the airport, I usually take the 200E to Ferihegy and then transfer to the train into Nyugati. It is all included in my monthly pass. Also, the 4-6 tram does operate 24 hours a day.
Today is our last day in Budapest. Your videos have been very helpful. Thank you🙏🏽
Before our recent trip to Budapest we watched a few of Stuffed Cabbage videos.
This is a really helpful video. Thank you very much!
Thank you for the kind message! Happy to hear you found it helpful! :)
It's quite cheap and the convenience of not having to validate makes it worthwhile even though we tend to walk most of the time.
you have to validate at least once ? or it comes validated from machine
@@arbernuka3679 No, you don't have to validate. It's timed and dated so you have 72 hours from that time, so if the inspector asks to see your ticket, you are safe.
can i use it to go from airport to central?
Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind message! Glad that our content can help with your planning :)
Thanks man! Love your videos!
Your video is very informative and well detailed. We are confident that our transport in Budapest, as well as our touring, will be smooth. Thank you and more power to you.
Thank you for posting this, it’s been very helpful for me in organising my trip in June 👍
Glad to hear our content can help with your organisation! June is generally a wonderful time in Budapest, so I hope you'll have a great trip here :)
Hey there! Will surely see what we can do about that eventually 😊
I'm not even a tourist and I always get confused when trying to take a Volán Busz anywhere.
Very helpful, thank you!
Kösz! We are going back to Budapest for the first time since 2018. Great info from all your videos.

Happy to hear our videos could help you! I hope you'll enjoy your time here! :)
Useful! Thanks for reminding me about the “Free Lancers.” 😮
Thank you!!! It was easy to understand. You guys explain so well! :)
Great videó!
You don't fully need to validate your ticket, but if you have time for it, I think you should validate it.
Well, I hope this is a just a joke as there is no way to "not fully validate your ticket" 😂
Thank you for the big information 😊
Thanks!
Great tip as this is exactly the kind of place I'm into
Great lesson. Very helpful. Köszönöm szépen!

I been there in 2023 - August. But for very few days. I still want to explore Budapest much more. I loved the city & the vibes. Next Time I m planning to come with my wife & daughter. I guess this video will help a Lot. Love from India. 🇮🇳
Thanks! I hope you can bring your family too to experience Budapest even more :)
Ah thank you so much for this video!! 🙌🏼
Thanks for useful information!
Very useful information
Thanks for your help!!!
Make a video for the parking also please 🙏.
Great video!
Hello, Thank you very much for all your efforts! You're doing a very good job to make our Budapest journey easier!
I have two questions:
We'll prefer 200E from Airport and we would like to buy group ticketpass (3 Persons).
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Excellent! Perfect explanation! Thank you so much for your detailled answer! Best wishes from 🇹🇷! Greetings!
I just loved how you talks! 😆🤩
One of my bucket list country...
I hope you'll be able to cross it off your list one day with a excellent holiday here :)
Very useful. Thank you
Your videos are great - thanks
thank you so much for your information 👍
Somehow some tourists assumed that the public transportation in Budapest is free since it doesn't have the turnstile and..... Bam! They get caught red handed without valid tickets
This video needs to be pinned on the Budapest subreddit
Hi, can you make a video on best places to exchange money in Budapest (EUR/USD)?
There were no 90' tickets available to buy at the machines, we had to biy two single to get to nyugati from the airport with 200e and M3, the last time there were transfer tickets, not now
Thanks! You also could take the #2 down to the #16 then over to Buda side. lol
Thank you so much for the Support! Tram 2 is indeed like taking a tour bus, I actually prefer taking it sometimes even if it may not be the most optimal way to get to my destination, but the trip is just so nice with it 😊
Thanks!
Many thanks for the Support! 😊
Szia Ákos jó lett a videó!
Thanks
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Perfect, thank you so much for confirming and cheers for the quick reply :)

Can you use the 72 hour travel card on service 200E from the airport to the nearest metro station?
Hey there, yes, you can 😊
What I didn't get is, if you buy a timed pass (e.g.
What a surprise to see my name on the screen! 😃Also, this video just reminded me that I still have unused Budapest transit tickets in my wallet...
Hello very informative video,
I have one doubt
Suppose we have to travel from point A to point C and which need to change bus at point B.. than do we need to validate our ticket at both A and B points?
I know it's confusing, but it's the way it is 😊
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures yeah got it..thankyou
Thank you so much for replying. And is it true that there are no turnstiles?
@@jhbledsoeno sir. Same case with Vienna and Prague
Great video thanks a lot. One question what about 30 min and 90 min tickets are these tickets valid for multiple rides?
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Yes very helpful thanks looking forward visiting Budapest 😊
Bedankt
Thank you so much for the Support! 😊
Thanks a lot
Any recomendations about budget shopping stores?
Hey there! What kind of shops are you looking for precisely?
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures sports outlets . And casual clothing shops
There is Premier Outlet, a collection of many different shops many at outlet prices, it is not in Budapest but right next to it at Biatorbágy. Other than that, there is also Ázsia Center at the edge of Budapest with lots cheap clothing.Hope this helps 😊

Thank you for your video and the tips = we are going to the Christmas Market 2024
Thanks, I hope you'll have a lovely time during your visit and enjoy the Markets as well :)
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures Köszönöm szépen, Akos! Thanks so much for your help, I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures lovely thank you
I see tons of videos explaining how to get from airport to city, but seldom talks about the opposite direction.
So my tips:
1) start with the first bus stop outside Deak Ferenc metro station where there is a non-driving staff member helping out when boarding.
Hello. Should i validate the day pass ticket also? And Where can i buy it
A few questions does a daily pass for group of five complicated to use and does a daily pass valid on 200E
@@StuffedCabbageAdventures thank you again and one more thing when we want to use the group daily ticket in metros do we just scan the ticket and give it to the next person in turnstile or is there no turnstile at all
@@ahmetbilgin208 There are no turnstiles or gates at the Budapest subways :)
Hello, does it mean that I need only one validated ticket for example if I travel from Szell Kalman to Hosok tere, with changing from red to yellow line?
Hey there! That is correct, you would go from Széll Kálmán to Deák Ferenc tér and there transfer to M1 all the way to Hősök tere 😊
