Mind Turd same goes for some moths which emerge mouthless and starve after mating, but mayflies have the shortest adult lifespan. However as nymphs they live several years.
@@theworthysoul They don't really starve per-se, because they do not have a feeding function any longer, they do not feel hunger, which comes from certain hormones, so they more just run out of energy and collapse, I don't know how it would feel but it wouldn't be as horrible as starving to death for for the larvae or us.
There are far more than 3 UK species - there are 51. They most common one, Baetis rhodani, can be found as adult all year long although most emerge either in spring or late summer (two generations)
IO9802 Sorry, I understand how you can mistake that original comment. Time relativity is not exactly what I was mentioning, there's a link above that simplifies it much more. The theory I was addressing was Paul Janet's theory of Time Perception. Have a nice day :)
How can I post a video here it happens in red wing once a year my first time ever seeing one was today I was freak out I have video they pack every where on my car food places couldn't do drive in some did some shut down my video will show you why if I can post it
modetallah are u from Northeast Ohio? I am..it's the worst here..haven't seen so far..I don't think it's every year that huge spawn happens..not sure exactly..no bites..or stings...just gross and annoying...
jeff radke I am! It's every year, but it only hits those closest to the lake hard. Otherwise you wouldn't even know it happened. Yeah they don't have teeth or stingers, but they still get under my skin, figuratively speaking of course.
When fishing the river at night I have had so many of them stuck to my lantern that they blocked out the light. One night we were going a few miles up river in our 16' boat, and we had a big light bar in the front and when we got to our destination the mayflys were 4" deep in the bottom of the boat. There were probably 50 pounds of dead Mayflys in there and I had to clean them out and boy did they start to stink after a couple of days.
came here because I found this "unusual looking mosquito like insect with tails" on my fish tank. It was in nymph stage of its development(no wings yet). very fascinating!
I see one of mayfly today in the beach it was floating i thought it was dead but when i touch it its moving so i try to rescue that amazing insect. I dnt have any idea what it was i thought it was a small butterly until take a photo and search it on google and i find out its a mayfly & i get curious to know their history and i found this video. Its really wonderful experience to see this amazing water insect but sad to say they just live so short.
They're short life out of water is kinda like life of the human male. You spend all your money and effort to get your mate and marry her, then all sexual favors are cut off, she divorces you, takes 1/2 of your money and 1/2 of your retirement and then she looks for another sucker.
Wow! God is so wise in His creativness! Everything no matter how short the life span has a purpose! We can learn life lessons from nature! God loves us and His wisdom is shown everyday! He wants to save us and reconcile us to Himself thru His Son Jesus Christ Who is the perfect sacrifice provided for us to save us from sins that we may prosper and live in fullness spiritually and physically but we must receive this special free gift in order for it to work for us😀 John 3:16 Romans 10:9 - Jesus loves ALL ✌
Im here because of John Oliver's episode on Warehouses. According to John Oliver, Mayflies in their adult or last stages in life, they take so much cocaine while having sex.

thats literally only a mayflies purpose
That’s almost pretty much every species purpose besides humans
@@kylemiller2781 nah, we just have extra time on our hands as everything is made for us.

@Anthony Mercado I know but why was I specifically tagged?
One of the most fascinating stories in nature. I actually feel sorry for the mayfly as it does what it has to do to keep it's species alive.

Same.... hahahaha🤣🤣 I'm not the only one because of Larva tv series
me too hahahahaha
Same
I thought I was the only one.
Meeeeee tooooo 😂😂🤣🤣
You guys forget about the theory that time is relative and this mayfly has lived and entire life.
Bowl Of Carrots So you’re saying from a mayflys perspective a flight lasting a minute or so would last weeks for a mayfly?
You don't understand time relativity, do you?
IO9802 Yes I do. Sorry that I never got the link up though.
So, if you do, then tell me how the relativity theory is relevant to mayfly's lifespan.
IO9802 Sorry, I understand how you can mistake that original comment. Time relativity is not exactly what I was mentioning, there's a link above that simplifies it much more. The theory I was addressing was Paul Janet's theory of Time Perception. Have a nice day :)
I've always wondered if they're were efforts or methods to collect mayfly eggs and repopulate streams, very cool!
So that's ay larva mayfly died so quickly
They're so adorable!
Mayflies are pesky, but not as pesky as flies
4:20 long. Blaze it 🔥
Excellent video. Really adds to your enjoyment of fishing during this moment in the fishing calendar.

People work to breed these things? They're so numerous around Lake Erie I figured they were doing fine on their own.
Right! They hit us last night and covered our entire building, I don't think they need any help.
modetallah they came before US!!!

Now thats what I call bad evolution!

ayy if its still alive today its bot bad evolution.
They dont have mouths, therefore, they dont bite.
Rest in peace, Petey the mayfly.
Shame you did not show the main event. The change from dun to spinner. You have not done this amazing insect justice.
It may not be complete but it is not bad. You could always do one to cover the missing part?
ya.. is there a video on the planet that shows this? it has fascinated me since childhood.
'One Strange Rock' National Geographic doco, ep 05 "Survival" they show it. (that's why I came here looking for more info)
