Oh man! So many possibilities for modifiers come to mind! I guess one obvious one would be the inverse, so "Volume to Mesh" where it would generate a mesh on the surface of the volume. Some of the mesh modifiers would also be useful, like Array, Curve, Displace, Boolean, Wave ... many many possibilities...
haha! I didn't notice this when I wrote my comment.
That opens a world of possibilities, especially with particle driven systems and particle driven metaballs - mind numbing complexity but Blender handles it all for you so its arty! :o)
What other type of modifiers do you think the Volume object could have?
Combine, advect, reshape, resample.. like H.
This might sound stupid but maybe a Subdivision Surface Modifier but for volumes? Like, for example you bake a simulation with 32 samples but it has a Subdivision Surface Modifier so it Looks like it has 64 but blender just calculates 32. This might be impossible, I don’t know. It could be nice for the blender users with weaker hardware like the i5’s and i3’s
Volume to mesh? To get shapes from smoke simulation?
remesher with boole operations like substract, instersect, combine etc
A mirror modifier its a must
How about some "heat distortion" animation, refraction rendering with surface distance fading - is it possible? (Surface distance i mean that user could control "edge fading" without loosing shape) so i am asking some kind of "border falloff" feature.
That's amazing, love the Calcifer render!
This will be a big game changer for artists. I loved this aspect of Houdini that you can use a mesh as a reference for volumes - so glad this will be available in Blender.
This reminds me of C4D's volume builder and volume mesher so much. It would be so cool if Blender has volume booleans, volume to mesh, volume smoothing, etc. It would be revolutionary! (to some workflows, at least)
Just what I was thinking. I really hope they develope this more towards the C4d volume builder approach
That's most likely what is going to happen with openVDB operations as nodes.
You guys are insane! Great work!
I watched this movie with my mom and it was awesome greetings from the uk
This is superrrrrrr cool!!! Blender is getting better and better by the day!!!
Just can't wait to get into this! Just what I'm looking for.
Yes!!! Thank you!
'You are not gonna get lost'...LOL :D
Blender keeps bringing the swag at a breakneck speed. Much love!
Pablo, You made me happy mate, Thank you :) Have a good day.
🤩🤩🤩 that is really awesome.
Wow. So much excited for this video
This mixed with that Sculpt animation will allow u to make some cool volumetric animation just by sculpting an animation
Awesome 🤩🤩
"The lady Suzanne" :p
No the the lady Suzanna 🙈
I love all those new features but please, pleeeease take care of the long overdue basics that are still missing: Especially multi object value property editing. Or showing the shortcuts to tools besides their icons in the T-Panel.
All those fantastic overhauls and new features are still somewhat diminished by a few missing quality of life features.
If you hold down Alt when changing a setting, it applies the change to all the selected objects.
@@SchemingGoldberg Yes. I know.
But it's hidden. It only works on numeric panels and not even on every one. And it doesn't work at all when you have "emulate 3 button mouse" activated as I do.
Love it!
3D earth mania you are really such a good master......
woooho...even more fun with volumes without taking so much time.
I love it.
Perfect for Halloween 👻BOO
This is so cool! Though i would have given it an Emission Shader rather than using a lamp.
Grrreeeaaaattt 😊👌
if yuo add a musgrave texture to the density of the principle volume, you can get a more broken, cloudy effect too
saw it in anither tuotrial on volume lighting
Nice!
Finally eevee can have volumes that don't look like a cube.
If only you made it work like cycles does though...
I know this is 4months old but due to the way eevee calculates lighting it would be really hard to keep it as fast as it currently is while making it as good as cycles
Looks good
"This is like showing dirty laundry" lmao
You are forgiven, Pablo
Thank you.
Now the only thing left that eeve need is a proper global illumination running in real time. Like marmoset toolbag
Cool that feature
2.91 version
A timeline : 0:32 pie menu ? 4:12 motion tracking 2.91 version
How did you animate the mesh object? with shapekeys or a deformer? What about adding a noise modifier?
This is amazing! Could you enable your keyboard presses to display though? interested in knowing how you switched from timeline to shader editor with the keyboard
Shift +F keys 1-12 will switch modes. ShiftF12 is timeline, press again for dopesheet
cool
I am in love with your accent lmao
Could i plug emission into volume like u could with cycles
How is this different from, adding a volume node to an object and making its surface transparent
This is like showing a dirty laundry :-D
I'm new to Blender, is there a way to animate the mesh to volume to audio? For instance, using a audio track to bake sound to f curve, and then matching these effects with the mesh to that sound/f curve?
Can it have a particle system as the mesh source?
Someone please help i have a big problem!! So when i add something to viewport like a cone and i face to x axis the cone also faces there and it really annoys me i think i accidentally changed a setting by mistake
Hi - I tried using these modifiers in 2.93.4. When I export my fle (trying to make a simple cloud), the modifiers do not get exported. the export shows only the metaball that the modifier was applied to. Do you have any idea how I can export the file and have it retain it's modifier properties?
EPIC
how is this different or better than just giving an object a simple volume shader?
Pablo told about volume sculpting (or smth like that :D) in Sculpt special, hmm :) I see..
Oh yeah thats cool!!! And why not a volume to mesh modifier ? Or a kind of switch MESH/VOLUME object type ? Sculpting clouds...Fool ideas but... who knows where Blender would go ?
Thanks Pablo to help us follow these so cool developments.
And the Trimming tool is there...Wow!
I would like to create a seperate volume entity. is that possible? So I can have the poly next to the Volume?
I want to see voxel edit mode for volume objects.
i wan't the possibility to make cloud or bush trees with metaball and this volumetric option, could be a pefect match ^^ !!!
Awesome. Can we also get a volume to mesh modifier too pleeeeease!?
Blender is the best
HOLY SHIT!!! Isn't that amazing? MAN, IT IS DAMN AMAZING!!! Hahha, sooo sweet, this tiny Modifiers panel with only one option, LOL. Imagine, how it looked when Ton first time coded Blender and there was also a time, when there were only one modifier, but for mesh... So nice to see you Pablo, so awesome to see how you enjoy this new feature, it's nearly made me cry and laugh at the same time. Maybe I everemphasize that, but BLENDER is AMAZING, FAVOUIRITE and NEVER ENDING ADVENTURE app I have ever experienced in my life (long life, btw), and yes - experienced, because at the deep level, we do not just use Blender, we experience it, we breath it and we live with its all glory and shades. Love you so much, say cherrs to the rest of the team, hug virutally anybody you can! :) KUDOS!!!
Did you think about doing an overlay system so that Blender could call home and update what needed updating? This would probably save you a lot of bandwidth
That would be against the philosophy behind Blender.
Or set up a git repository for the compiled files and just pull the newly updated files.
@@LeoPlaw There is a remote repository for the compiled files? Or from where do you pull them?
@@ronsn8071 Its a suggestion. Instead of downloading the entire nightly build each time, it would simplify things if we could download (pull) and update only the files that have changed. It would save everybody a great deal of time and bandwidth.
@@LeoPlaw Apart from external libraries from 3rd parties (which don't change often) the executable file of Blender is the biggest one. And this file changes every day. All files are packed into an archive and this archive is a lot smaller than the unpacked executable file alone. That wouldn't save any bandwidth; it would rise up.
If you want to have always the latest build, it would be better to compile it by yourself automatically, e.g. every night.
This is really cool but what's the difference over just applying a volume shader to an object? Obviously in eevee that's not an option but is there any benefit to cycles?
The first thing that springs to mind for me is being able to add modifiers after the mesh to volume modifier in the future, to process it in a volume-specific way.
Can it render in eevee. This is not a feature that only works in cycles?
What is the difference to using the original mesh with a volume shader? Is there any upside/downside to using a volume object?
This modifier is a must for eevee, because the eevee volumetrics can't get the shape of the object. But it's also easier to create co plex effects without knowing a lot of vector math to do it in the volume shader
Volume shader doesn't work properly in Eevee, plugging any shape to Principled Volume results in clouded box. The cons I only see that you can't procedurally modify the density, the whole volume will have the same level if you don't modify the mesh - that could be also a good thing when you want your flame or cloud a specific look without mental gymnastics over texture and vector transformations.
@blender can you include direct lighting in eevee as seen in cycles?
There could be a modifier that converts a stack of image files into a volume, right?
does this mesh to volume modifier is available for unity ?
Hi! Is a bit OT, but for all guys in hard surface or archviz modeling would be very useful an edit poly modifier like the max one.. paired with new reordering feature of modifier stack would be perfect! thanks :)
Es el personaje de el castillo vagabundo de Miyazaki ☺️☺️ 🥰 me encantó
Eevee motion blur is not previweable in the viewport and camera view especially for blender 2.90 and 2.90.1.Its a very important feature for previewing the motion blur before rendering out the final image.
Can i install blender on macOS Mojave or Can it work with the macOS install?
Can anyone tell me how to use physic with volume I can't figure it out. Thanks.
Your talk is so good brother you are very funny!!!!!
"Behold, the Lady Suzanna"
The lord Suzanne XD
Not sure why in Blender all the loaded 3D shapes are gray or flat? Or in 3ds Max, the technology object is very detailed, I export it to FBX, OBJ or other formats. I load it into Blender, the object is simplified, the corners are very much rounded, the detail and textures disappear. I see something gray in the window, or I don't see the object at all, it disappears or becomes transparent with outlines. Or it often happens that the object is very strongly distorted by some bunch of protruding edges, in the form of gray triangles, and part of the object is invisible, like an object in some kind of dark fog of the field of view.
I dont see any modifers, my version in 2.9. Whats the problem?
Can you use normal computers for blender? I’m going to try to get it tomorrow morning but I don’t know.
Anything past 2012 should run fine. You need at least OpenGL 4.0 or newer
But the volume extends a little beyond the boundaries of the object, and this is very bad, because my volume, for example, my flame of the ion engine, is visible through the body of the robot. How to fix it so that the volume is exactly the same shape and size as the original object?
Particle Info node for Eevee, please!
Ok so this is in the experimental build? Cause in 2.9 the modifier setting is just blank. The option of modifier is there just doesn't show any modifiers.
Blender Today is *always* about under-development and experimental features.
Principled volume is not working on the volume, What to do????????
great feature, but I was kinda hoping for the opposite :(
Volume to mesh?
@@generalfishcake yes, exactly :)
I'm noob, wasn't that possible woth principaled volume ?
Yes, but it was locked into the material. With that, you might use booleans to better control your volume afterwards.
I don't think Principled Volume worked properly in Eevee
@@captainpawpawchannel It didn't
Could there be a modifier that does the opposite too? so being able to remesh the volume or re-meshing openvdb files?
Imagine using that to sculpt the volume object in a shape that you like better, and then reverting it back into a volume.
@@jascrandom9855 that would be awesome! you could then run a smoke sim on it, remesh the sculpt and the smoke sim, and get an entirely unique look!
You would lose density info, though
@@softwarelivre2389 Not if its a Non-destructive Modifier.
@@jascrandom9855 If it is a lattice, then it is possible, but converting to a mesh, even on the modifier stack, would erase all of the temperature and density data, as it does not exist on regular mesh data, unless specified as custom properties or integrated on the material settings.

The problem is that the Addon is trying to execute legacy code from the API. You must report it to thhe rigify developers, in order for them to fix it.

What about a Noise Modifier ?
Too much? No, just about right 😊
Now get Pablo Dobarro to add it as a sculpting brush.
Yes. A blurred brush. Nice!
Obviously boolean modifier for volume!
