Resin Painting for Beginners

- Resin used in this video was Stone Coat Countertops Art Coat (www.stonecoatc.... There are many, many types of resin. Differences in resins will include work time, yellowing factor, smell, etc.
Things you can use to color resin: Resin tints, inks, acrylic paints, mica powders, glitter, nail polish, eye shadow, etc.
You will need either a torch or a heat gun to get rid of the air bubbles. They also heat the resin up to make it easier to move around. You can also use a hairdryer to move the resin around, though it will not get rid of all the air bubbles.
Once complete, a resin painting takes about 24 hours to cure. You will need to make sure it dries level and in a dust and wind-free environment. An easy way to do this is to cover it with a box or container.
After it is dry, you can add another layer of resin on it as desired, either a clear coat or an additional layer of color for depth. Just sand in between coats. With resin, you can also add in other things such as rocks, sequins, glitter, gold leaf, etc. etc. The possibilities are endless :)

THIS VIDEO IS INTENDED FOR ADULTS.
Jesus. Mary. and Joseph. Thank you. I've been searching everywhere for this video. Finally someone who cared enough to help the rest of us. Bless you kind lady. You just made my life a lot easier. I subscribed to your channel.
You're very welcome :)
You forgot to mention the wee donkey. J,M&J and the wee donkey as well 😀
Amen thank you so much I’ve been interested in starting this
Lol don’t forget the other guy 🤣
Hahaha…I haven’t heard that saying since my mom said it 20 years ago….I love it….thanks for bringing back funny memories. 🤗
I'm a resin newbie and have been watching different videos to learn what to do and not do. Your video was the easiest to follow by a long shot. Your video makes me even more excited to get started because I feel more confident with your videos out there! Thank you so much!
Oh for heaven's sakes, roll on next payday so I can try this!! 😃😃
Hilarious! Art supplies are NOT cheap and they are very addictive!
This is the only video i could find that actually made sense. Thank you!!!
I agree ! Wish i found it first 20 other videos later,
And they all skip the resin/hardener/paint mixing!
HereWeGoMel so true
HereWeGoMel right!!👍🏾
Thank you very much,, I done watched so many other channels on this type of project and none made me feel confident with trying to do it myself until now!! I’m officially a subscriber👍🏾🔥😎have an awesome day🌹
You are spot on! This is the only video that made any sense at all. Everyone else tells you everything EXCEPT what the hell to do and how to do it lol!
As one who is exploring resin art, you have helped me tremendously! Thank you for being an awesome instructor!
Thank you for your explanation of the use of resin with various paints and alcohol ink. I have been viewing DIYs and a lot of them make it seem like a chore to do. Watching you, I am inspired even more to try it. I'm not an artist and don't know how to draw, but I love color and have watched hundreds of tutorials on this. I've always felt that knowing how to use color-- to me is relaxing and enjoying the end result of what one has been created. Once again, I am inspired. Thank you.
You're welcome :)
Just an FYI - When I make my jewelry, I gently blow into a straw across the resin. My breath is warm enough to bring the bubbles to the surface and pop. It works great for me and it keeps my work space clear of items like hairdryers, etc. that I won't use for more than a minute or two. Certainly for large projects like river tables, where larger areas of bubbles need to be removed quickly, blowing in a straw just won't do the job. However, because it works for me when making jewelry or pictures so well, I thought it might be of some value to others also.
Thanks for your video. You answered the questions I had about what things would work to color resin, how to use them, and what the results would be. It was extremely helpful!
Very sensible n open
That points condensation into or on the resin.
would a hair dryer work ?
Thanks for your info.... xxx
When I try to mix resin w colors, it looks nice at first. Then I come back and it has blended and mixed in a lot. How did u avoid this?
I just love how you explain all the details and your resin piece is gorgeous!!
Yes it is gorgeous
Remember a face mask made for professionals and lots of ventilation as resin is toxic as h....
Not all resins lol nail polish is far worse for you lol
Now that I am totally invested in resin art (Thank you for the discount for supplies:), I really appreciate this tutorial. I've watched many of your videos and I thank you. You are a joy to watch and your work is fabulous! No wonder you have such an enormous following. Love your giggle...sweet.
Resin 101 - ♥️
I love the introduction of various things that can color resin.
Do you use the same amount of resin for the size of your canvas? For instance an 8 x 10 takes 3 oz. So would I use 3 oz of resin?
Excellent video thank you so much for explaining how to use Resin i wanted to try this for so long but was very scared of messing it all up but with your video i am 100 percent sure i can do this thanks again
It look so beautiful, like a view from outer space looking down to the earth 👍✌🏼🌺🦋💖❤️😊🌈😘it. God Bless take care and stay safe from Edith in 🇦🇺
I am a crafter and I accidentally bought resin dye thinking it was something else. Let’s just say, I am gearing up for another hobby. I love what you did and I can’t wait to get started. Thank you for taking the time to show these steps!
This is great and so simple explained for the beginner, thank you!
Thank you for explaining very slowly and simply, awesome teacher.
Thanks for this awesome video. Resin doesn't seem as scary now. I'm doing my first acrylic pour today on some 8x10 canvas (michael's has a huge sale on canvas this week). How much paint should I have in an 8oz cup for an 8x10? And should I put any white on the canvas first? I'm probably going to make like 4 or 5 experiments today. Thanks for being so awesome as always!!!
For an 8x10 I use 5oz of paint :)
This is such a great tutorial! loved it totally! thank you so much for the share!
You are an excellent instructor. I like the way you explained how you use each option and the effect i.e. translucent.
Question what are the items you used in raising up your canvas?
They are painter's pyramids www.amazon.com/dp/B0799P5RPW/?cv_ct_id=amzn1.idea.2LG19YLV5DVGO&cv_ct_pg=storefront&cv_ct_wn=aip-storefront&ref=exp_cov_mixedmediagirl_lv_dp_vv_mw
You are great teacher, enjoyed and learnt a lot, happy I came across this video, thanks for sharing.
Oh, thank you! I seriously can't wait to get my resin and my Mica powder. I have some Chrome powders I ordered a long time ago from Amazon for my fingernails. It can also be used as eyeshadow. I have a whole bunch of it too so that's awesome to know I can use it. They are really cool colors too, they are chameleons and iridescent powders. So the only thing I think I will need is a heat gun because my hair blower will probably blow it too hard and I will want to manipulate to spread the colors. I want to thank you so much!
Thank you for uploading this. Very informative tutorial with lots of very useful tips and it really gets the imagination working on what is possible, which in my mind is pretty much "If you can think of it you can probably do it."
Wow, lovely tutorial. You’ve done a great job. Thanks!
Ooooooh, you should use straight glitter more often 😁
1.) This is absolutely fancy pants a.k.a. a really great tutorial. It has everything one can wish for: a very fine narrator’s voice, your curiosity and joy in doing experimental stuff shines through nicely, and it’s easy to follow your instructions and reasoning - I’m totally wowed!
2.) well, you are awesome. Thank you!
Thank you for this eloquent tutorial. It was to the point, not long and drawn out about your personal life. Thank you a million times!
Great tutorial. I use a hair dryer for the bubbles and a tooth pick if necessary. Thank you!
Love the results, looking for something for my Deaf son to find something to relax him.
This is awesome!
Thank you for an awesome tutorial. I bought my resin three weeks ago and have been to intimidated to just do it, now I'm ready.
I'll keep you posted how it turns out.
Same here but bought 2 months ago !lol
Thank you for this! I learned SO much more from this than others! Now I know go make more!!!
Very helpful, I didn’t realize you could use all of those different items to color resin. And the end project came out really nice! Thanks!
Great instructions for beginners like me. Thanks so much.
Thank you for your video! The info was clear and you answered all the questions I had :)
Thank you so much for this video you truly answered all of my questions.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Wow! That turned out beautifully, thank you for sharing, I think you answered all my questions :-)
Great tutorial ! I want to make coasters on tiles , does resin make them heat proof for hot cups on ? Not tried resin yet ! Thank you
Yes, depending on the resin :)
Awesome job Media Girl, Thanks for sharing👍🏼
interesting very useful help thank you for share :D
Great info video, thank you! 😍 beautiful painting!
I have one more question which probably won't be my last LOL sorry but, I love that blue one so much and is there a way I can put another coat of resin on the top to get rid of the pin holes? Do I have to sand it down or something? Or do I just put another coat on the top. I watched my video and I didn't torch it afterwards enough.
You totally can! Just sand it with 220 sandpaper and go for it :)
@@MixedMediaGirl
Oh, thank you so much. I will do that. Glad to hear it. Have a great day!
You too ♥️♥️♥️
Doing my first resin pour today & also one of the Free Form Geodes!! Thanks so much! I have been doung the Flip Cup, Dirty Pour, Tree Ring, etc for almost 2 years and have sold 12 pieces!! I have been working up to doing both of these for over 1 year now!!
I thought you shouldn't use a torch or lighter with alcohol inks?
Very cool, very informative, so much fun! Nice one!!
I bought a Wagner Furno 300 heat gun it has two settings. It says 750f to 1100f.. it was only $23. But, I just want to know if this will be okay to use for the resin. It does not seem to blow that hard like a hair blower. Is it supposed to blow hard?
It is not supposed to blow like a hair dryer, it's primary purpose is just heat :)
@@MixedMediaGirl
Thanks, I've just noticed that yours moves around the resin a little and spreads it. I'm hoping this will do the same. It didn't come with any attachments either.
Very easy to listen too, great job explaining every step and attention to detail. Thank you, I feel less worried about getting the wrong tools.
Eyeshadow only comes with Micah powder if the ingredients state micah powder. If the micah powder is listed first. Then the eyeshadow has this as its main ingredient. However, if listed last, it has very little.
Mica one of the main ingredients in eye shadow 👍
Thank you! All those things that can be used I wasn’t aware of! Thank you!!🥳
I have seen videos indicating to use PPE when handling resin (Specifically respirator, mask, eye protection and proper gloves) .To avoid future lung issues and skin rashes.
It looks amazing!!! Can't wait to see more of it, and nice tutorial!
Now it maybe because it's late but could you melt the risen in a pan my brain saying no I am in dobbo hospital it's 1.56 am every one's up don't no why but I a.m off to sleep 3 hours before I get my finger pricked again oh boy.
For the measuring cup you mentioned using plastic for easily removing any left over resin. Would a glass measuring cup be better to use with the resin or plastic? I know that I have seen both kinds available at dollar stores and wanted to know which one I should pick since you are experienced in working with that medium. Thanks.
I haven't actually tried glass, but that should work as well :)
What kind of heat gun do you use????
Beautiful video thanks for sharing💖💖💖
What's the quickest paint in risen to use for quick dry like 2 hours dry
There's no paint. If you want fast drying, you can use UV resin, but that's not what I use. 😊
I’ve been waiting so long for a good detailed tutorial thank you!
Thank you for all of the information
I’m so glad I came across your video it is so helpful especially since I’m a beginner beginner! Thank you for the simplicity your video!! It definitely helped knowing what you can use and the different types of combinations. I have a lot of powdered eyeshadows I’ve not used that I’d like to tryout now
Wow nail polish. Cool nice job
You are so good, love your tutorial, very inspiring for us newbies just starting out.
How to measure resin and the hardner?
I love the glitter in the resin!!! I have mastered burning my resin!! Haha ☺️
what is Resin tint is it Alcohol ink or Acrylic Ink u wrote in description please reply
Thanks, Girl! You answered at least SIX questions I had. I've been especially interested in what you can mix into resin, and you just saved me a BUNCh of $$ trying these things myself. The fingernail polish was a new one for me. Thanks again for helping those of us new to the wonderful world of resin.
I'd never thought of resin pouring directly on canvas. I like!
Wow, tbh I was so skeptical of the color combo at first but it turned out better than expected. Absolutely gorgeous. I would purchase this. Also this was very informative. I’m doing resin art as well and was wondering about measurements for mica and glitter and you’ve helped me so much, thank you!
Nice explaining. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I do love the addition of the glitter!
I’m so happy to see cells in resin iv never had success with cells but I love your tutorial you’re very relaxed and flexible about everything, but I’ve found that if you don’t raise your painting it will stick to the surface and it’s hard to remove later. Thanks for a great tutorial!
Resin doesn't stick to parchment paper :)
Where do I get stone coat
Very informative, you are a great teacher-very organized and covered all my questions.
What gear do you need for protection. Example: heavy duty masks , gloves etc
Excellent presentation! Thoroughly enjoyed the tutorial. Thank you!
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I had a Resin catastrophe this week. Lol. But my project came out nice. I can’t say the same about my sink. 🤦🏻♀️ I love your work♥️♥️♥️
*studies video*
I did my first three resin pours last night. I was a little intimidated but, I think I got the hang of it all now. After my first one I looked at what I did and reviewed my video and realized I didn't even need to use the air blower LOL I was just intimidated with the heat gun. So if you have the time could you watch my videos and let me know what I did ? I'm sure you will see the first one it's so funny and yeah I was freaking out the whole time but, I wrapped my head around it the second third time. Oh, I was wondering do you ever have problems with the metallic black breaking up?? I kept finding little specks of black. I must not have stirred it enough. But the second and third time I stirred it even better and they still showed up a little. Is there something I'm doing wrong with that?
And oh my gosh, you are so right it is so addictive. Such a different look with beautiful shimmers of metallic and I swear they look like gemstones and jewels to me.
I'll check out the vids :) and yes, with the mica powders you sometimes have to stir quite a bit but I havent had any issues with any of them :)
@@MixedMediaGirl
I must have been in too much of a hurry and too excited to get started and just didn't stir it good enough. I know better next time. And my first videos I was so intimidated with the heat gun I ended up getting out the hair blower LOL. Well the second and third painting I started to catch on and didn't use the hair blower LOL thanks so much for responding back to my comments. You're awesome!
Thank you for this tutorial. I'm not worried about trying this now.
You know your stuff , great video and I just subscribed !
Thanks :)
Hi MMG! I’m so glad I have found your channel. I have Zero artists abilities but I’m gonna try this on my next day off. I’ve got my materials ordered. My job is super stressful and I haven’t been able to find too many things to take my mind off work! I’m a Detective. Every night I’ve been watching your videos and you do a great job with them. You are so talented and a good teacher. I can’t wait to try this “Basic” technique. Wish me luck!! Thanks again!
Good luck ❤❤❤
I made coasters with a picture in it, after all dry do I need to seal it or is it good just as is?
What did you make them with? If it's paint, you could seal it with resin, if it's resin you don't need to as it's self-sealing, but you could add an extra layer to protect the picture if you wanted.
thank you for this, I am waiting for my resin to arrive ... and then I can start my first piece ...
Do you prime your canvas?
You should do some more resin paintings in the near future. 😍
Definitely :)
I have a little question.. as a beginner and looking to give this a try, the resin you use is a little out of my price point. Is there another resin that would work well and be a little more budget friendly without really lowering the quality to pieces?
I havent tried this one but I've head good things about it and it's a but cheaper www.amazon.com/Clear-Casting-Coating-Epoxy-Resin/dp/B07BM9LHRB?keywords=art+resin&qid=1537657390&sr=8-11&ref=mp_s_a_1_11
How can I thank you enough?. you have explained every action with such simplicity and accuracy What a great video you sent me and YES YES it has answered all my questions, however, I have to ask before I embark on my resin journey, what do you think which stuff was responsible for making the cells? was it the alcohol ink or mica or nail polish?PLEASE do answer as its very Important as i plan to make a deep blue, turquoise, black and white colour combo and need a lot of cells.THANKS, THANKS A MILLION
Check out this video :) ua-cam.com/video/DmtW73UKq7I/v-deo.html
Can you use nail polish with floetrol and/or glue to create paint for regular pours like you can with mica? I have been inspired to start pouring from your videos and am trying to mostly use things I already have on hand. I have tons of micas from soapmaking but also have some unused nail polish, lol.
You are a magnificent artists! I love your work! I ordered SC with your code. I have had 2 fails. Is there somewhere I can send you pic’s that maybe you can make a suggestion. I am on fb at Barbara Striker. I don’t like not doing this right.
Yes, go ahead and message me on my Facebook page facebook.com/MixMediaGirl/ or my instagram (@mixmediagirl)
I love this. I want to try it.
Can I ask you about the resin drops! Some will stay under the painting and it will dry as a drop, I couldn’t hang the painting because of these drops behind it 😞 can you help! Thank you so much
You can pre-tape the back and peel it off, or sand it down after :)
Thank you so so much! Lots of love ♥️
Is this just a regular stretched canvas? Did you have any problems with the middle pooling or was it fine?
Similar question, how do you store your leftover mixes? Both paint with fluetrol. And resin mixes?
With floetrol I store in a bottle, resin you can't store. Once its mixed, its use it or lose it :)
Fantastic tutorial honey. I love working with all of those. Now I know what to do with all my nail polishes 😂😂😂which is hundreds 😜
u explained really well...I have just ordered resin and some silicon moulds to work on it for the first time ...Thank u dea....wish me luck 😁
Good luck!
Hi there, i notice you didnt use a support under the canvas? how do you stop it from sagging in the middle, thanks.
Omg thank god I found your channel!!!
After they are all mixed an ready to paint can I put them in molds instead for molding?
Depends on the resin you're using but usually
hello, very good video. Just be aware for beginners, that a lot of resins (especially art resins) are actually not 1:1 but 2:1. Often you mix twice as much part A to part B. It will tell you on the label, don't assume what ratio to mix.
I just love tour channel, it was you and Sandra Lett, that lead me to my journey of art! I lost my close friend 2 years Xmas day, and was asked to make a memory box! I never stopped there! The first video I watched of you was pouring over a small table and vases! That was almost 2 years ago! I’ve sold so many beautiful pieces and if it wasn’t for the both of you, I wouldn’t of attempted! So thank you very very much!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️😀😀😀
You are such a good instructor!! Thank you!
How do you know if you have too much color to resin?
Great resin tutorial
