    Even though that Chernobyl is a true tragedy, in a more fictional setting the invisible poison of radiation is a cool horror concept as an intangible monster/danger.

      The only upside with CHernobyl is that humans can't live there. Go figure, the animals are safe because of it.

    It's likely that Pacific Drive is another such story as it's all too possible the effects of the events on the Olympic Peninsula could spread infinitely.

    "The Magnus Archives" is a podcast that definitely represents the "noble cause" aspect of cosmic horror. Trying to stop evils taking over the world, accidentally leading to something worse .. this is probably the scariest, because the protagonist in these scenarios is being led from the start. Inevitability, like watching a car crash in slow motion, is one of the most horrible destinies

    I feel like some stories are definitely "world ending" after you read them, but in terms of ego death, that we are never the same after.

    (Edit) for exemple that book of Tzench belivered to the bureaucrat on his birthday(?) about what happened to his family, his world/hope being destroyed and being hunted by a monstruosity that sounds like his wife.

    How to DOOM a world?
    Simple: Not learning from history.

    • @CosmicHours
      @CosmicHours  21 день тому +5

      It's as simple as doing the opposite of everything we did 50 years ago really

    • @mercenarygundam1487
      @mercenarygundam1487 21 день тому

      @CosmicHours I mean look at the current state of the world:
      The Big three (USA, Russia and China) are all in their twilight years.
      Current generation has more brainrot than road kill
      Environmental and science experts are either ignored or undermined by greedy corporations
      Incompetent buffoons being elected to lead a country.
      Fundamentalists constantly using whatever excuses to justify their atrocities.
      I could go on and on but we would be here for a good while.

    • @mercenarygundam1487
      @mercenarygundam1487 21 день тому

      @CosmicHours Because UA-cam is ran by a bunch of morons and auto deletes comments.
      Just look at the current state of the world and see how people fail to learn the lessons from the past few decades.

    I can't help thinking this demonising of knowledge sounds more like a recipe for doom.
    Isn't it more dangerous to ignore knowledge, only acting according to your conviction/ideology/faith and ignoring the known facts?
    We are more likely to fail if we lack knowledge or mistake lies for the truth due to lack of knowledge. The idea that one can achieve some "ultimate truth" by just believing in a certain claim or following one idea is the very opposite to pursuit of actual knowledge.

      What it means: a *prideful* inability to even consider being wrong (or immoral).
      How it's most often used: to bash unwillingness to "know your place" and being curious about the unknown.

      @bat_nick 20 днів тому +4

      These words can adapt to new meanings, sometimes they reach a new use and is not incorrect in the new context, is all cultural, like how the word "Literally" is now is commonly used as an exaggeration even though it was supposed to be the opposite.
